What is Ars Technica?

Same as in the All the Mods 10 5.5 guide

This pack includes Ars Technica version 2.6.1, so any mechanics you look up elsewhere should be checked against that version.[1]

Unverified The available sources don't confirm what Ars Technica adds, who it is aimed at, or where it fits in this pack's progression, so those details are left out here.

How do you get started with Ars Technica?

5 parts

Same as in the All the Mons 1.3.0 guide

Ars Technica sits where Create machinery meets Ars Nouveau spellcraft, so you'll be working with both mods. The Calibrated Precision Mechanism is used by the Source Motor, the Spy Monocle and the Mark of Technomancy, so the order below starts with it.[2][3]

First: the Calibrated Precision Mechanism

Your first target is the Calibrated Precision Mechanism. It is made at an Ars Nouveau Enchanting Apparatus rather than a crafting table. The mod also has an advancement for acquiring one. Make it first because the next items in this list need it.[2][3]

Enchanting Apparatus (ars_nouveau)

Recipe id: ars_technica:calibrated_precision_mechanism

Next: the Source Motor

Then craft the Source Motor. It is a normal crafting table recipe that takes your new mechanism, and it has its own advancement too.[2][3]

Then: the Mark of Technomancy

The Mark of Technomancy is also made at the Enchanting Apparatus, and it needs the Calibrated Precision Mechanism as well. You'll want it if you're chasing a legendary Pokémon, because the Magearna quest uses it to activate the Summoning Ritual Altar.[2][4]

The quest is "Magearna" quest in the Legendaries chapter. In the quest book it comes after The Summoning Altar and Volcanion.[4]

After that: your first glyphs

Ars Technica adds spell glyphs that process item entities Create-style. Glyph Press flattens item entities into their pressed variants. Glyph Whirl creates a whirlwind that centrifuges item entities, and you combine it with water, flare, smelt or hex to choose the kind of processing.[2][3]

Tip: Some glyph recipes differ from the mod's defaults. The pack changed the recipes for Glyph Obliterate and Glyph Pack, so check the recipe on this site before you gather materials.[2]

Save the armor for later

The Artificer, Machinaguard and Technomancer armor sets are upgrades of Ars Nouveau armor, and the pack changed their recipes. Here they use a Mark of Mastery from Ars Elemental, where the mod's default recipes use the Mark of Technomancy. Each set reduces damage from Create machinery and increases the speed of nearby schematic cannons. Here is the pack's recipe for the Technomancer's Boots as an example.[2][3]

How does Ars Technica work?

7 parts

Ars Technica is described as the intersection of Create machinery and Ars Nouveau spellcraft. In practice that means two things: a Source-powered machine that feeds Create's rotation, and a set of spell glyphs that do Create-style processing on item entities.[3]

Source Motor

The Source Motor converts Source into rotational force. It must be supplied with a nearby Source Jar.[3]

You adjust the RPM on the sides of the motor. Right-click elsewhere on it to adjust the SU-to-RPM ratio. Changing that ratio changes the amount of Source required, so check it before you wire it into a big setup.[3]

Unverified The sources do not give the Source Motor's actual RPM range, SU values or Source consumption in this pack.

Processing with glyphs

Most of the mod's depth is in its glyphs. They work on item entities lying on the ground, so you drop the items, cast, and the spell does the work. Each glyph spawns its own effect (Arcane Press, Arcane Whirl, Arcane Hammer and so on), and most have an AOE augment that widens how many items or how large an area it covers.[3]

  • Whirl creates a whirlwind that centrifuges item entities. Combine it with water, flare, smelt or hex to get Washing (Splashing), Smoking, Smelting or Haunting processing. AOE increases the size and range, and Extend Time increases the duration.[3]
  • Press flattens item entities into their pressed variants. Polish refines them into polished variants. AOE on either one increases how many item entities are processed.[3]
  • Pack condenses identical item entities into 2x2 recipes. Amplify changes the grid to 3x3 and Dampen changes it to 1x1. AOE increases the area in which items get collected.[3]
  • Glyph Carve cuts identical item entities into stairs, on stone and wood only. Amplify switches the recipe to walls and Dampen switches it to slabs. AOE increases the collection area.[3]
  • Fuse slams item entities together at breakneck speed and picks up fluids from nearby fluid containers. Add Smelt for heated mixing, or Superheat for super-heated mixing (the glyph description says "if enabled"). AOE increases the amount of items processed.[3]
  • Glyph Obliterate hits with an arcane hammer. Add Sensitive and it processes item entities instead of destroying them. Fortune increases the chance of extra items from crushing recipes, with diminishing returns, and Amplify increases the hammer's size and damage.[3]

Press modes

Press has several modes depending on its augments. Extract makes it use Compact recipes, which take nearby fluids into account, instead of plain Press, whenever the items can form one. Add Smelt for heated Compact recipes. Superheat together with Extract allows super-heated Compact recipes. Sensitive switches Press to Packing instead, which is 2x2 or 3x3 same-item crafting.[3]

Item tooltips list the possible processing, and they label the three compacting modes (Compacting, Heated Compacting and Superheated Compacting) as fluid aware.[3]

Moving items in and out

  • Insert puts item entities into nearby containers in a medium radius around where the spell is activated. Add Split to distribute items evenly across all valid containers.[3]
  • Glyph Apply uses the item in your offhand to perform Manual Item Application or Deploy on blocks or items. Non-player casters use adjacent inventories instead of the offhand, which is what lets automated casters use it. AOE increases how many items can be applied and the area of blocks affected, and Pierce increases the depth when targeting blocks.[3]
  • Telefeast consumes the first edible or potion, or some amount of liquid, found in the container or tank it was cast on. Sensitive makes it try to use items that are not food or drink, such as experience gems, and Pierce forwards the consumable in a magic bubble.[3]

Focus of Transmutation

The Focus of Transmutation augments your spells with Luck and improves several glyphs. Hold shift on the item to see the full list. It gives +1 Luck Augment per glyph in your spell and doubles several things: chance-based outputs from Crush, Obliterate and Whirl, the damage Obliterate deals, the items Press and Polish process, and the speed of Press, Polish and Whirl.[3]

The pack has changed this focus's crafting recipe from the mod's own version.[5]

Calibrated Precision Mechanism

Several of the mod's progression items are built on the Calibrated Precision Mechanism, which has its own advancement. It feeds into the Focus of Transmutation, the Spy Monocle, the Mark of Technomancy and the Pressure thread.[3][5]

Enchanting Apparatus (ars_nouveau)

Recipe id: ars_technica:calibrated_precision_mechanism

Gear that supports the machinery

  • The Pressure thread, Pressure, grants the wielder ultra-high-pressure air. The air refills over time, and higher levels mean more capacity and a faster fill rate.[3]
  • The armor sets (Artificer, Machinaguard and Technomancer) reduce damage from Create machinery and increase the speed of nearby schematic cannons.[3]
  • The Spy Monocle zooms in when you press its key.[3]

How do you progress through Ars Technica?

6 parts

Same as in the All the Mons 1.3.0 guide

Ars Technica bridges Ars Nouveau magic and Create machinery. In this pack, the progression is a ladder of gadgets, glyphs and armor upgrades. Several of the mod's items are built from one component, the Calibrated Precision Mechanism, so that is where you start.[2]

The Calibrated Precision Mechanism

You make this at an Ars Nouveau Enchanting Apparatus. It feeds into the Mark of Technomancy, the Source Motor, the Spy Monocle, the Pressure thread and the Focus of Transmutation, so it's worth making a few early.[2]

The Mark and the machines

The Mark of Technomancy is also crafted at the Enchanting Apparatus. The pack's quest book asks for it in the Magearna quest "Magearna" quest in the Legendaries chapter.[2][4]

Armor sets

Each Ars Technica armor set is an upgrade of an Ars Nouveau set, and the pack changed every one of these upgrade recipes.[2]

Watch out: In the mod's default recipes, these upgrades use the Mark of Technomancy. In this pack they use a Mark of Mastery (Mark of Mastery) instead. Don't stockpile Marks of Technomancy for armor. Save them for the Magearna quest.[2][4]

Experience gems

Experience gems step up through shapeless crafting: a Greater Experience Gem becomes a Giant Experience Gem, and that becomes a Gargantuan Experience Gem. You can also turn a Gargantuan gem back into a Giant one.[2]

Quest use: Magearna

The Magearna quest sits in the Legendaries chapter and comes after The Summoning Altar and Volcanion. First you charge a Soul-Heart Mechanism by defeating 50 Pokémon in battle within 10 blocks of it. Then you build Magearna's body around it on a Summoning Ritual Altar, with one of your own Volcanion present. You activate the altar with the Mark of Technomancy, then an Enchanted Soul.[4]

How does Ars Technica work with other mods?

4 parts

Same as in the All the Mons 1.3.0 guide

Ars Technica ties Ars Nouveau and Create together, and the pack's recipes show it. Most of the crossovers are crafting steps where a Create item goes into a source-magic recipe. One Cobblemon legendary quest also depends on it.[2][4]

Create items in Ars Technica recipes

The key crossover item is the Calibrated Precision Mechanism. It is made at the enchanting apparatus from Create's Precision Mechanism, a Source Gem and an amethyst shard. Several other Ars Technica recipes then build on it.[2]

Armor upgrades and Ars Elemental

Ars Technica's armor sets are upgrades of Ars Nouveau armor. Sorcerer pieces become Artificer pieces, Arcanist pieces become Technomancer pieces, and Battlemage pieces become Machinaguard pieces. The helmet-slot upgrades also need Create's Engineer's Goggles, and every upgrade needs a brass ingot and a netherite ingot.[2]

Here the pack makes a notable change. Each armor upgrade recipe is marked as changed by the pack and asks for the Mark of Mastery from Ars Elemental. The mod's original versions, which ask for the Mark of Technomancy instead, are listed separately as mod recipes.[2]

Experience gems and Create Enchantment Industry

The Giant Experience Gem and Ars Nouveau's Greater Experience Gem can be swapped for each other, one gem for one gem, in shapeless crafting. Create Enchantment Industry can grind Giant and Gargantuan gems into Liquid Experience.[2]

Cobblemon: Magearna

The Mark of Technomancy also plays a part in the pack's Cobblemon content. The pack adds a summoning altar recipe for Magearna that uses the Mark together with an Enchanted Soul from Forbidden Arcanus. The quest "Magearna" quest walks you through it. Its description says to charge a Soul-Heart Mechanism by defeating 50 Pokémon within 10 blocks of it. You then build the body on the altar with one of your own Volcanion present, and activate the altar with the Mark and then the Soul.[2][4]
