What is Ars Technica?

Same as in the All the Mods 10 5.5 guide

This pack includes Ars Technica version 2.6.1, so any mechanics you look up elsewhere should be checked against that version.[1]

Unverified The available sources don't confirm what Ars Technica adds, who it is aimed at, or where it fits in this pack's progression, so those details are left out here.

How do you get started with Ars Technica?

4 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 5.4 guide

Ars Technica mixes Ars Nouveau magic with Create machinery, and almost every early item needs parts from both mods. One component shows up in more recipes than anything else, so that's where you start.[2]

Step 1: Calibrated Precision Mechanism

Your first real goal is the Calibrated Precision Mechanism. You make it in the Enchanting Apparatus, and it's an ingredient in the Source Motor, ars_technica:runic_spanner, Spy Monocle, Mark of Technomancy, Focus of Transmutation and the Pressure thread. Make a few spares, because you'll need them.[2]

Step 2: Source Motor

Next, craft a Source Motor at a regular crafting table. It turns Source into rotational force, so your Ars Nouveau Source can drive Create machines. It must have a Source Jar nearby to draw from.[2][3]

To set the RPM, use the sides of the motor. Right-click anywhere else on it to change the SU-to-RPM ratio. Changing that ratio also changes how much Source the motor uses, so balance speed against your Source supply.[3]

Step 3: Your first glyphs

Ars Technica's glyphs work on item entities on the ground, which lets you do Create-style processing with spells. These are handy early ones:[3]

  • Glyph Insert puts item entities into nearby containers in a medium radius around where the spell lands.[3]
  • Glyph Press flattens item entities into their pressed variants.[3]
  • Glyph Polish refines item entities into their polished variants.[3]
  • Glyph Whirl creates a whirlwind that centrifuges item entities in an area.[3]
  • Glyph Pack condenses identical item entities into 2x2 recipes. This pack changed its glyph recipe, so check the in-game recipe.[2][3]
Tip: Add water, flare, smelt or hex to Whirl to wash, smoke, blast or haunt items. That's a lot of Create's processing in one spell.[3]

Step 4: Tools and the Focus of Transmutation

Once you have spare mechanisms, the ars_technica:runic_spanner and Spy Monocle are both Enchanting Apparatus recipes. Each one also has its own advancement.[2][3]

The Focus of Transmutation is the big upgrade for those processing glyphs. This pack changed its recipe from the mod default, so use the recipe shown here. It adds Luck to your spells, and when you hold Shift over it, it lists these bonuses:[2][3]

  • 2x chance-based item outputs from Crush, Obliterate and Whirl.[3]
  • 2x items processed and 2x speed for Press and Polish, and 2x speed for Whirl.[3]
  • +1 Luck Augment per glyph in your spell, and 2x damage dealt by Obliterate.[3]

How does Ars Technica work?

6 parts

Ars Technica is the bridge between Ars Nouveau and Create. It has very few machines of its own. Most of the mod is spell glyphs that process items the way Create machines would, plus one block that turns Source into rotation. This section covers what the sources explain about both.[4][5]

Source Motor: Source into rotation

The Source Motor converts Source into rotational force for your Create setup. It has to be supplied from a nearby Source Jar.[4]

You tune it in two places. Adjust the RPM on the sides of the motor. Right-click anywhere else to change the SU-to-RPM ratio. Changing that ratio works in reverse on the Source it needs, so adjust it with your Source supply in mind.[4]

Glyphs that process item entities

Most of the glyphs work on item entities, meaning items lying on the ground. Cast the spell at them and they get processed. The AOE augment on these glyphs generally widens how many items or how much area they affect.[4]

  • Glyph Press flattens item entities into their pressed variants. Glyph Polish refines them into their polished variants. AOE increases how many item entities are processed.[4][5]
  • Glyph Whirl creates a whirlwind that centrifuges item entities. Combine it with water, flare, smelt or hex to wash, smoke, blast or haunt items. AOE increases the size and range, and Extend Time increases the duration of processing.[4][5]
  • Glyph Fuse slams item entities together at breakneck speed. Use Smelt for heated mixing, or use Glyph Superheat for super-heated mixing. The Superheat augment on Fuse switches it to super-heated mixing, and AOE increases how many items are processed.[4][5]
  • Glyph Carve cuts identical item entities into stairs, and works on stone and wood only. Amplify changes the recipe to walls, Dampen changes it to slabs, and AOE increases the area in which item entities are collected.[4][5]
  • Glyph Pack condenses identical item entities by crafting them into 2x2 recipes. Amplify changes the grid to 3x3, Dampen changes it to 1x1, and AOE increases the collection area.[4][5]

Unverified Fuse's super-heated mixing is described as working only if enabled in config. That setting lives in the mod's config file, and the sources here do not show this pack's config for Ars Technica, so whether it is on is not confirmed.

Obliterate

Glyph Obliterate hits foes with an arcane hammer. Add Sensitive and it processes item entities instead of destroying them, which the glyph description ties to Create Crushing Wheels recipes. Amplify increases the hammer's size and damage. Fortune increases the chance of extra items from crushing recipes, with diminishing returns.[4][5]

Item handling: Apply, Insert and Telefeast

  • Glyph Apply uses the item in your offhand to perform Manual Item Application or Deploy on blocks or items. Non-player casters use adjacent inventories instead of the offhand. AOE increases how many items can be applied and the area affected, and Pierce increases the depth of blocks affected.[4][5]
  • Glyph Insert puts item entities into nearby containers within a medium radius of where the spell is activated. The Split augment spreads items evenly across all valid containers instead.[4][5]
  • Glyph Telefeast consumes the first edible or potion, or some amount of liquid, found in the container or tank you cast it on. Pierce forwards the consumable in a magic bubble. Sensitive makes it try to use items that aren't food or drink, such as experience gems.[4][5]

Focus of Transmutation

The Focus of Transmutation augments spells with Luck and improves several glyphs. Its tooltip has a hold-to-expand section that lists the bonuses:[4]

  • +1 Luck Augment per glyph in your spell.[4]
  • 2x chance-based item outputs from Crush, Obliterate and Whirl.[4]
  • 2x damage dealt by Obliterate.[4]
  • 2x items processed by Press and Polish.[4]
  • 2x speed for Press, Polish and Whirl.[4]

A transmutation turret casts spells infused with the focus, and it costs extra Source to do so. The sources don't give the exact multiplier.[4]

Technomancer gear

The Technomancer armor set reduces damage from Create machinery and speeds up nearby schematic cannons. Its pieces are Technomancer's Hat, Technomancer's Robes, Technomancer's Leggings and Technomancer's Boots.[4][5]

How do you progress through Ars Technica?

4 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 5.4 guide

Ars Technica mixes Ars Nouveau magic with Create machinery. The pack gives this mod no questline, so this breakdown follows how the in-pack recipes build on each other, from your first glyphs up to the Technomancer armor.[2]

Tier 1: Your first glyphs

Ars Technica adds a set of new spell glyphs, made with the Ars Nouveau glyph recipe type. Most use Ars essences, and several also need a Create part. That makes them a good first step once you have a little Create and a little Ars going.[2]

Watch out: This pack has changed the recipes for Glyph Pack and Glyph Obliterate. Check the in-pack recipes below instead of an older video or a different modpack.[2]

Tier 2: The Calibrated Precision Mechanism

The Calibrated Precision Mechanism is the key component of the mod. You make it in the Enchanting Apparatus by upgrading Create's Precision Mechanism, and most of the Ars Technica tools and devices use it. Getting a steady supply of these is the real gate to the rest of the mod.[2]

Tier 3: Technomancer armor

The top tier is the Technomancer set: Technomancer's Hat, Technomancer's Robes, Technomancer's Leggings and Technomancer's Boots. Each piece upgrades a piece of your existing Ars Nouveau mage armor and needs netherite, so this is a late-game goal.[2]

This is where the pack's changes matter most. The pack has changed the main armor recipes to use the Ars Elemental Mark of Mastery. The mod's default versions, which use the Mark of Technomancy, are also still in the pack's recipe list for every piece. The Mark of Technomancy is itself an Enchanting Apparatus craft built on a Calibrated Precision Mechanism.[2]

How does Ars Technica work with other mods?

6 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 5.4 guide

Ars Technica is the bridge between Ars Nouveau's magic and Create's machinery, and you can see it in almost every recipe. Most of its items are made on the Ars Nouveau Enchanting Apparatus or through glyph crafting, and nearly all of them call for at least one Create part. If you're running both mods, this is where they meet.[2]

The Calibrated Precision Mechanism

Start with the Calibrated Precision Mechanism. You make it on the Enchanting Apparatus from Create's Precision Mechanism and a Source Gem. It then goes into a lot of other Ars Technica recipes, including the Mark of Technomancy, the ars_technica:runic_spanner, the Source Motor, the Pressure thread and the Focus of Transmutation. Get a Create precision mechanism line going early.[2]

Glyphs built from Create parts

Several Ars Technica glyphs are crafted from a Create item plus Ars Nouveau essence, which fits their machine-like jobs:[2]

Technomancer armor

The Technomancer set upgrades Ars Nouveau magic armor, with brass and netherite added on. The hat also needs Create's Engineer's Goggles. This pack has changed all four armor recipes to use Ars Elemental's Mark of Mastery. A second hat recipe using the Mark of Technomancy also exists in the pack.[2]

Experience gems and Liquid Experience

You can craft Ars Nouveau's Greater Experience Gem into a Giant Experience Gem and turn it back again. Both the Giant and the Gargantuan Experience Gem can be ground into Create Enchantment Industry's Liquid Experience. That gives you a handy way to feed stored experience into Create-based enchanting setups.[2]
