What is Super Factory Manager?

3 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 2.12 guide

Super Factory Manager is a mod for moving stuff around in Minecraft, and it does that with a programming language. You write a script that describes what should move and where, and the mod runs it for you. Version 4 of the mod replaced the old flowchart-style GUIs with this scripting language.[1]

This pack includes Super Factory Manager 4.19.0 for Minecraft 1.21.1. It has been in the pack since version 0.32 or earlier, so it is a long-standing part of the modpack.[2]

Who it is for

It suits you if you want to automate item movement between inventories and are happy to write or paste a short script instead of wiring up pipes. The project page describes it as a scripting approach, so some trial and error is part of the fun.[1]

What you need to get started

  • A Factory Manager, which is the block that runs your program.[1]
  • A Program Disk, which goes inside the Manager's GUI and holds your script.[1]
  • A Label Gun, which you use to tag the blocks your script refers to.[1]
  • Optionally, Inventory Cables to connect the Manager to your inventories.[1]

The basic flow is to place the manager, connect your inventories, put the disk in, and paste in your script. Then you load the labels from the script with the label gun, apply them to your blocks, and save them to the disk.[1]

Where it fits in progression

Unverified The sources I was given do not show any quests, ATM Star path steps or in-jar guidebook entries for this mod, so I can't say where it sits in the pack's progression. Treat it as an optional automation tool that you bring in whenever you want it.

How do you get started with Super Factory Manager?

3 parts

Super Factory Manager (SFM) moves items around for you using a small script that you write, paste in and run. You only need a few things to get your first setup working, and this is the order I'd make them in.[1]

The first items to make

Start with Inventory Cable. Cables connect your Factory Manager to the inventories it will work on. The mod's project page lists them as optional, but you'll want them for almost any real setup. This pack adds its own cable recipe, and one craft gives you 16 cables.[1][3]

Added by the pack, and it makes 16 cables per craft.

Next, make the Factory Manager. This is the block that runs your program, and everything else connects to it.[1][3]

Last, make the Label Gun. You use it to tell the manager which blocks in the world match the labels in your script.[1][3]

The recipe id looks odd, but in this pack's recipe list it is the one that makes the Label Gun.

Setting it up

  1. Place the Factory Manager in the world and connect it to your inventories with Inventory Cables.[1]
  2. Put the Program Disk inside the manager's GUI.[1]
  3. Paste your script into the manager GUI using the buttons or Ctrl+V. The manager tells you when the script has loaded.[1]
  4. Hover over the disk to see any warnings and errors in your program.[1]
  5. Shift-right-click the manager with the Label Gun in your hand to load the labels from your program.[1]
  6. Hold shift and use the scroll wheel to change the active label, then right-click blocks in the world to apply or remove it.[1]
  7. Right-click the manager without holding shift to save the labels to the disk. Your program should then be running.[1]
Tip: You can right-click a disk in your hand to edit it without needing a manager.[4]

Upgrades for later

Once the basics work, there are cable variants to try. Fancy Inventory Cable is made from a plain cable, and a separate recipe turns it back.[3]

Tough Inventory Cable resists explosions, and Tunnelled Inventory Cable passes capabilities through to the opposite side. The Tunnelled Factory Manager has the same pass-through behaviour.[4]

How does Super Factory Manager work?

6 parts

Super Factory Manager (SFM) moves items and other resources between your inventories with a script, not a flowchart GUI. You write a program, store it on a disk, and a Factory Manager runs it on the blocks it can reach through cables. Here is how the pieces fit together.[1]

What you need

The basic kit is a Factory Manager, a Factory Manager Program Disk and a Label Gun. Inventory Cable is optional but is how you normally link the manager to your inventories.[1]

In this pack the cable has a recipe added by the pack, and it makes 16 cables per craft.[3]

Getting a program running

  1. Place the Factory Manager and connect it to your inventories with Inventory Cables.[1]
  2. Put the Program Disk inside the manager's GUI.[1]
  3. Paste your script into the manager GUI using the buttons or Ctrl+V. The manager should tell you the script was loaded.[1]
  4. Hover over the disk to see the warnings and errors for your program.[1]
  5. Shift-right-click the manager with the Label Gun in your hand to load the labels from your program.[1]
  6. Hold shift and use the scroll wheel to change the active label, then right-click blocks in the world to apply or remove that label. A right-click menu also lets you enter a custom label that is not in your program yet.[1]
  7. Right-click the manager without holding shift to save the labels to the Program Disk. Your program should now be running.[1]

The Label Gun can also pull labels from the manager. Its chat message says to release the pull modifier key to push instead. You can also right-click a disk in your hand to edit it outside of a manager.[4]

The manager screen

The manager GUI shows its state, which can be running, missing disk, no program or invalid program. It also shows peak tick time and the tick time of whatever you hover over, which helps you spot a program that is slow to execute.[4]

The screen has buttons to copy to and paste from the clipboard, reset the disk, view examples, view the server config and view logs. Reset wipes ALL disk data, program and labels included. There is also a button to rebuild the cable network. Use it if the manager seems to have lost track of your cables.[4]

The logs screen lets you change the log level. Trace, debug and info levels turn themselves off after a single program execution, and logging can make statements take longer to run. The pack has no config files for this mod that I can show you, but the manager's own button opens the server config.[4]

Cable types

Fancy Inventory Cable is a variant you get by crafting a plain cable on its own, and you can turn it back the same way. Cables can wear facades, and the game asks you to confirm before it overwrites or clears facade states.[3][4]

Checking what a container exposes

The container inspector warns that GUI slots don't always correspond to automation slots. It also says Mekanism blocks are read-only from the null direction, and that for Mekanism machines the listed slots follow the machine's own input and output config. Check this when a script doesn't move items the way you expect.[4]

Other SFM blocks and tools

How do you progress through Super Factory Manager?

4 parts

This section follows the crafting chain for Super Factory Manager using the in-pack recipes. Everything starts with Inventory Cable, then the Factory Manager on top, and the cable variants branch off from there.[3]

Step one: the cable

Everything starts with Inventory Cable, and this pack sets its own recipe for it. The recipe was added by the pack and makes 16 cables per craft. Check it before you plan a build, because nearly everything else in the mod uses cable.[3]

Added by the pack, and it crafts 16 cables at a time.

Step two: the manager and its program

The Factory Manager is built using a cable, so get the cable recipe sorted first.[3]

Cable upgrades

The cable variants are all made from the basic cable or from the fancy cable. Fancy is the simplest step: it is a shapeless craft, and you can turn it back into a plain cable.[3]

How does Super Factory Manager work with other mods?

1 part

The one link between Super Factory Manager and another mod in this pack is a crafting recipe. The pack adds its own shaped recipe for Inventory Cable, and it makes 16 cables per craft.[3]

The recipe pulls in Quantum Alloy and Crystalline Alloy, so you need materials from outside Super Factory Manager before you can craft cables.[3]

This recipe is added by the pack, and it is the one to follow for cables here.

What the cable does

You connect a Factory Manager to your inventories using Inventory Cables. The mod's own page lists the cables as optional in its getting-started list.[1]

Which Super Factory Manager config options matter?

Super Factory Manager has very little to tweak in this pack. The only config file in the sources is the client one, config/sfm-client.toml, and it holds two on-screen reminder options. Both are set to true in this pack, so the reminders are switched on.[5]

Both options are client-side, so they only change what you see on your own screen. If the overlays get in your way once you know the controls, you can switch them off in that file.[5]

Unverified The mod's own default values for these two options are not shown in the available sources, so it is unconfirmed whether the pack changed them.

What changed in Super Factory Manager between versions?

4 parts

Project Infinity 0.1 0.0.51.4-hotfix-2 ships Super Factory Manager 4.34.0 for Minecraft 1.20.1. It was already in the pack by 0.0.45.4 or earlier. Here are the notable changes from the mod's own changelogs, newest first.[6]

4.34.0 (the version in this pack)

  • Fancy cables can now be waterlogged.[7]
  • There is a configurable keymapping for opening the label gun GUI.[7]
  • Falling anvil items no longer spawn in the corner.[7]
  • The JEI catalyst display for the falling anvil experience shard now uses the configured tag instead of hardcoded obsidian.[7]
  • Program cache invalidation is fixed for the server config edit command.[7]
  • Label gun text and the label gun and network tool highlights no longer render slightly offset at large world coordinates.[7]
  • The zh_cn localizations were updated and uk_ua localizations were introduced.[7]

4.32.0

  • Accepting an intellisense suggestion now has its own keymapping instead of being hardcoded to backslash.[8]
  • The "rebuild cable network" button in the manager no longer errors because of a bad i18n parameter.[8]
  • The intellisense popup is no longer transparent on MC 1.20 and later.[8]
  • JEI integration item lore is now written properly, and logging for SFM event listener registration was reduced.[8]

4.31.0

  • Fixed a crash when placing a cable where the same network touches multiple sides.[9]

4.28.0

  • Fancy cables no longer visually connect to blocks they should not.[10]
  • The LabelNotConnectedProgramLinter now works properly. Before, it wrongly detected that any block has redstone capability.[10]

Unverified Changelogs for releases between and before these, and any pack-specific changelog entries for this mod, were not available, so this list is not a complete history.
