What is PackagedAuto?
1 part
PackagedAuto is an addon for Applied Energistics 2 that uses "packages" of items so you can autocraft recipes with more than 9 items. It also supports fluid crafting. It can run without AE2, but it works best hooked up to an ME network. This pack includes version 3.4.15.46.[1][2]
The Package Recipe Encoder encodes recipes into Package Recipe Holder items, which then provide recipe data for your machines. Put an encoded holder in a Packager and it can create Recipe Packages for those recipes. An Unpackager unpackages a full set of them into adjacent inventories or package crafting machines, depending on the recipe type. Up to 20 recipes can be encoded in one holder.[3][4][5]
On an ME network, the Packager and Unpackager each need a channel and offer their work to the network as autocrafting. The ME Packaging Provider combines both jobs in one block. For fluids, the Fluid Package Filler makes Volume Packages filled with fluid, and it needs power.[4][5][6][7][8]
Where it sits in the quest book
The pack's quest book has a chapter called "Packaged" in the Production group, and it covers this mod. The path through it goes like this:[9]
- The chapter opens with "PackagedAuto – Introduction" quest, which asks for the guide book. The "Settings Cloner" quest, "Package Recipe Holder" quest and "Package Recipe Encoder" quest quests all come after it. The Holder quest asks for the Package Recipe Holder, which holds recipe data encoded in the Package Recipe Encoder.[9][10]
- After "Package Recipe Encoder" quest you get "Crafting" quest, "What Is the Crafting Proxy?" quest and "Positioned Processing" quest. They ask for the Package Crafter, the crafting proxy with its marker, and the distributor with its marker.[9]
- After "Crafting" quest come "Fluid Package Filler" quest, "Packager" quest and "Unpackager" quest. The Fluid Package Filler creates Volume Packages filled with fluids, the Packager packages items into Recipe Packages, and the Unpackager unpackages sets of them.[4][5][7][9]
- "ME Packaging Provider" quest comes after both the Packager and the Unpackager quests, and the machine it asks for combines the function of both. "Packager Extension" quest follows the Packager, and the Packager Extension copies the function of a nearby Packager.[6][9][11]
After the ME Packaging Provider the chapter branches into quests for specialized package crafters, such as "Fusion Crafting" quest, "Sculk Crafting" quest and "Advanced Crafting" quest. Sculk, Advanced, Nether, End and Extreme crafting are each a recipe type with their own package crafter, which requires power and ejects crafted items into adjacent inventories, or into the network when connected to an ME network. The quest chain keeps going, for example from Sculk Crafting to "Nether Crafting" quest, then "End Crafting" quest, then "Extreme Crafting" quest.[9][12][13][14][15][16]
How do you get started with PackagedAuto?
8 parts
PackagedAuto uses packages of items to ease certain crafting tasks. The basic loop is simple: you encode a recipe into a Package Recipe Holder, give that holder to a Packager, and unpackage the resulting Recipe Packages in an Unpackager. Here is the order I'd build things in this pack.[17]
Step 1: Packaging Component
Start with the Packaging Component. It is the base part for this mod: the encoder, the holder and the ME Packaging Component recipes in this pack all use it.[18]

Step 2: Package Recipe Encoder
Next comes the Package Recipe Encoder. It encodes recipes into Package Recipe Holders. You pick a recipe type, set the inputs and outputs and their counts, put holders inside, and press the save button.[3]

Step 3: Package Recipe Holder
The Package Recipe Holder is what actually stores the recipe data your machines read. One craft gives you 2 holders, and a single holder can store up to 20 recipes. If you need a second copy of an encoded holder, combine it with empty ones in a crafting grid.[3][10][18]

Step 5: Packager and Unpackager
Put an encoded holder into the Packager and it can make Recipe Packages for those recipes. They are ejected into adjacent inventories. It needs power.[4]

The Unpackager takes sets of those packages and unpackages them into adjacent inventories, or into package crafting machines, depending on the recipe type. It needs power too.[5]

Step 6: Package Crafter
For ordinary crafting-table recipes, add the Package Crafter. It crafts the recipe and ejects the result into adjacent inventories. It requires power. On an ME Network it extracts power and sends the crafted items into the network instead.[19]

Where to go next
Once the Packager and Unpackager work, the ME Packaging Provider combines both functions in one machine. It must be connected to an ME Network and needs a channel. The Packaging Settings Cloner is also worth making. It copies and pastes settings between machines of the same type.[6][20]

Following the quest book
The quests for this mod are in the "Packaged" chapter, in the Production group (chapter 26 of 44, with 29 quests). It opens with "PackagedAuto – Introduction" quest. After that come "Settings Cloner" quest, "Package Recipe Holder" quest and "Package Recipe Encoder" quest. The encoder leads to "Crafting" quest, and that opens "Packager" quest, "Unpackager" quest and "Fluid Package Filler" quest. "ME Packaging Provider" quest comes after both the Packager and the Unpackager.[9]
How does PackagedAuto work?
8 parts
PackagedAuto bundles the items of a recipe into packages so crafting tasks get easier to automate. You encode recipes into holders with the Package Recipe Encoder. The holders tell Packagers which Recipe Packages they can make, and the packages are then unpackaged in the Unpackager. Most of the mod is designed with AE2 integration in mind, so each machine has its own ME Network behaviour.[17]
Encoding recipes
In the Package Recipe Encoder you pick a recipe type, then set the inputs, outputs and their counts, where the type allows it. Put Package Recipe Holder items inside and press the save button. A single holder can store up to 20 recipes, which you choose with the recipe slots at the top of the screen. The preview on the right shows which Recipe Packages will be made. The load button reads recipes back from an encoded holder.[3]

With JEI you can show every recipe for the current recipe type and use the Move Items button to encode quickly. With EMI the Fill Recipe button does the same job. For recipes that accept several different items in one slot, EMI lets you choose which item to use through the recipe tree.[3]
An encoded holder can be cleared by placing it in a crafting grid. Combine an encoded holder with empty ones in a crafting grid to copy its contents.[10]

Packager, Extension and Unpackager
The Packager needs power. Put an encoded holder inside and it can make Recipe Packages for those recipes. Finished packages are ejected into adjacent inventories, and you can pull inputs out from the top side.[4]
The Packager has a mode setting. Require Exact makes the first package that exactly matches the inventory contents. Require Disjoint looks for packages with no overlap and makes the one the contents can supply, otherwise it falls back to Require Exact. First Match makes the first package the contents can supply.[4]
The Packager Extension copies a nearby Packager, so you need fewer holders when you parallelize packaging. It needs power. Place it anywhere within a 3x3x3 area around a Packager. If several Packagers are in range, it copies the north-west-bottommost one it finds. It has the same three modes and also lets you extract inputs from the top.[11]
The Unpackager needs power and takes sets of Recipe Packages. Packages go into trackers, and once a set is complete it is unpackaged into adjacent inventories or package crafting machines, depending on the recipe type. You can change the number of trackers. For processing recipes you can enable blocking mode, which stops it unpackaging into occupied inventories. You can also unpackage a Recipe Package by hand.[5][21]
In this pack the Packager, Packager Extension and Unpackager recipes each use an ME Packaging Component. That component is built from AE2 parts plus a Packaging Component.[18]

Recipe types
Processing is the most basic type, and inputs and outputs are sorted and stacked when encoded. Ordered Processing keeps ingredient order. When unpackaged, items go into adjacent inventories in the encoded order and only into empty slots.[22][23]
Positioned Processing sends items to separate inventories using a Positioned Package Distributor. Bind Distributor Marker items to inventories and put them in the distributor slots that match the encoded input slots. The distributor respects the blocking mode of the Unpackager it came from. If a target inventory becomes invalid, it ejects all pending items on top of itself, or into the ME Network when connected to one.[24]

Package crafters
Crafting recipe types use a matching package crafter. The plain Crafting type uses the Package Crafter for recipes that a crafting table can make. It needs power and ejects results into adjacent inventories. On an ME Network it extracts power from the network and sends results into the network instead.[19]

The in-game guide describes the same behaviour for many tiered crafters: Basic, Advanced, Elite, Ultimate, Epic, Legendary, End, Extreme, Nether and Sculk. Each needs power, ejects results into adjacent inventories and uses the network the same way when connected to AE2.[12][13][14][15][16][25][26][27][28][29]
Unverified Among the crafters, only the plain Package Crafter has a recipe in the pack's recipe dump for this mod. Whether the tiered crafters are obtainable in this pack is unverified.
Some crafters need extra blocks around them:[30][31][32][33]
- Combination Package Crafter: connect power to the crafter and place Marked Pedestals in a 7x7 area around it. Use an empty hand on an idle crafter to check the currently usable and required amount of pedestals.[30]
- Fusion Package Crafter: place enough sufficiently tiered Marked Injectors at least 3 blocks away, facing the crafter unobstructed and connected to power. The crafter needs some power too. Use an empty hand on an idle Fusion Package Crafting Altar to check the currently usable and required amount and tier of injectors.[31]
- Ender Package Crafter: place Ender Alternators in a 7x7x7 area around it. It needs power.[32]
- Flux Package Crafter: place powered Flux Alternators in a 7x7x7 area around it. The crafter needs power as well.[33]
The Combination and Fusion crafters, and their pedestals and injectors, can connect to an ME Network, where they eject crafted and remaining items into the network.[30][31]
Crafters at a distance
The Package Crafting Machine Proxy lets Unpackagers send items to specialized package crafting machines from a distance. Bind a Proxy Marker to a crafting machine and put the marker in the proxy. You can unbind a marker in a crafting grid, copy a bound marker by combining it with unbound ones, and use an empty hand on the proxy to see its range and target.[34]

Fluids and volume packages
Volume Packages hold bulk materials such as fluids and can be inserted or unpackaged into matching containers. The Fluid Package Filler makes fluid ones and needs power. Place it next to a fluid container, put a template fluid container inside and set the amount of fluid. The gui labels this amount in mB. Then apply a redstone signal to create the package, which is ejected into adjacent inventories.[7][8][35]
Machines that provide autocrafting to an ME Network can treat the contents of Volume Packages as autocrafting inputs and outputs, and can create them directly.[8]

ME Network handling
The Packager needs a channel on an ME Network. It extracts power from the network, offers packaging as autocrafting and ejects its packages into the network. The Packager Extension does the same, and the guide lists a channel requirement only for the Packager. The Unpackager also needs a channel, extracts power and offers unpackaging as autocrafting once you place an encoded holder inside.[4][5][11]
The ME Packaging Provider combines the Packager and the Unpackager. It must be on an ME Network and needs a channel. With an encoded holder inside, it provides Direct, Packaging and/or Unpackaging recipes depending on its settings. Direct provides the package recipe as one large processing recipe and skips the packaging and unpackaging steps.[6]

Copying settings
The Packaging Settings Cloner copies and pastes settings between machines of the same type. Sneak-use it on a supported machine to copy, then use it on another to paste. Sneak-use it on air or an unsupported block to clear it. What it carries depends on the machine:[20]
- Packager: the mode and the current recipes. To paste recipes, the target must have none and you need an empty Package Recipe Holder in your inventory.[4]
- Packager Extension: the mode only.[11]
- Unpackager: blocking mode, tracker count and the current recipes, with the same rule for pasting recipes.[5]
- ME Packaging Provider: the providing settings and the current recipes.[6]
- Crafting proxy and distributor: the target setting. Pasting needs an empty Proxy Marker for the proxy, or enough empty Distributor Markers for the distributor.[24][34]
How do you progress through PackagedAuto?
5 parts
PackagedAuto progression in this pack follows the "Packaged" chapter of the quest book, so you can tackle it in stages.[9]
Stage 1: Encoding and the core machines
"PackagedAuto – Introduction" quest asks you for the guide book, and three quests open right after it: "Settings Cloner" quest, "Package Recipe Holder" quest and "Package Recipe Encoder" quest. The in-game guide also says to start by encoding recipe holders with a Package Recipe Encoder, and in the quest book the Encoder quest is the one that leads on to the machine quests.[9][17]
The Package Recipe Encoder writes recipes into Package Recipe Holder items, which then give recipe data to your machines. A single holder can store up to 20 recipes.[3]

Stage 2: Packaging and unpackaging
Three quests come after "Crafting" quest: "Packager" quest asks for the Packager, "Unpackager" quest asks for the Unpackager and "Fluid Package Filler" quest asks for the Fluid Package Filler. "Packager Extension" quest follows the Packager quest and asks for the Packager Extension.[4][5][7][9][11]
The Packager turns the items for an encoded recipe into Recipe Packages. The Unpackager unpacks a full set of them into adjacent inventories or package crafting machines. Both machines need power.[4][5]
The Packager Extension copies a nearby Packager, so you need fewer recipe holders when you run packaging in parallel. Place it anywhere within a 3x3x3 area around the Packager.[11]
The Fluid Package Filler makes Volume Packages filled with fluid. Place it next to a fluid container, put a template fluid container inside, set the amount, then apply a redstone signal.[7]

Stage 3: The ME Packaging Provider
"ME Packaging Provider" quest asks for the ME Packaging Provider and opens once you have finished both the Packager and Unpackager quests. The specialised crafter quests in the chapter all come after it.[6][9]
The ME Packaging Provider combines the jobs of the Packager and the Unpackager. It must be connected to an ME Network and needs a channel. Depending on its settings, it provides Direct, Packaging and/or Unpackaging recipes.[6]
Crafting Shaped
| any iron storage block |

Stage 4: Specialised crafter tiers
After the ME Packaging Provider quest, the quest book lists a whole row of crafter quests that all follow it: "Advanced Crafting" quest, "Elite Crafting" quest, "Ultimate Crafting" quest, "Ender Crafting" quest, "Epic Crafting" quest, a quest in "Packaged", "Flux Crafting" quest, "Combination Crafting" quest, "Fusion Crafting" quest and "Sculk Crafting" quest. Each one asks you to make the matching package crafter.[9][36]
Each tier adds a recipe type you can pick in the Package Recipe Encoder, along with its own package crafting machine. The in-game guide describes the Advanced, Elite, Ultimate, End, Extreme, Nether and Sculk crafters the same way: they craft recipes from the matching crafting table, they need power, they eject results into adjacent inventories, and they can connect to an ME Network, where they extract power and send results into the network.[12][13][14][15][16][26][27][36]
The Sculk, Nether, End and Extreme crafters come from PackagedAvaritia, which adds recipe types for Avaritia recipes to PackagedAuto.[9][37]
The two long chains
Two branches keep going past the first crafter, and each step unlocks the next.[9]
- Avaritia line: the quests ask for the crafters in this order: "Sculk Crafting" quest, then "Nether Crafting" quest, then "End Crafting" quest, then "Extreme Crafting" quest.[9][12][14][15][16][37]
- Fusion line: the quests ask for the Fusion crafter first, then its injectors in this order: "Fusion Crafting" quest, then a quest in "Packaged", then a quest in "Packaged", then a quest in "Packaged", then a quest in "Packaged".[9][31]

How does PackagedAuto work with other mods?
5 parts
PackagedAuto is an addon to Applied Energistics 2 (AE2), and much of it is designed with ME Network integration in mind. In this pack it also links up with Extended Crafting, Avaritia and Draconic Evolution through extra package crafters, and every one of those crafters needs an ME Packaging Component.[1][17][18]
Applied Energistics 2
The bridge item is the ME Packaging Component. It is built partly from AE2 parts, and every package crafter in the sections below needs one.[18]

Extended Crafting
Each Extended Crafting tier has its own package crafter, built around the matching table, auto crafter or crafting core plus an ME Packaging Component. The pack changed the recipes for the Advanced Package Crafter, Elite Package Crafter, Epic Package Crafter, Legendary Package Crafter and Ultimate Package Crafter. The Combination Package Crafter, Ender Package Crafter and Flux Package Crafter use the mod's own recipes.[18]

In the quest book, every one of these crafters comes after the quest "ME Packaging Provider" quest, so you set up the provider first. The Combination Crafting quest ("Combination Crafting" quest) also asks for the Marked Pedestal.[9]
Avaritia
PackagedAvaritia adds recipe types for Avaritia recipes to PackagedAuto. In this pack that means the Sculk Package Crafter, Nether Package Crafter, End Package Crafter and Extreme Package Crafter. Each is built around the matching Avaritia crafting table and an ME Packaging Component, using the mod's own recipes.[18][37]

The quests form a chain after the provider quest: "Sculk Crafting" quest, then "Nether Crafting" quest, then "End Crafting" quest, then "Extreme Crafting" quest.[9]
Draconic Evolution
The Fusion Package Crafter is itself made with a Draconic Evolution fusion crafting recipe, using the Fusion Crafting Core and a Draconic Core along with an ME Packaging Component. It is a mod recipe, not changed by the pack.[18]

Which Project Infinity 0.1 quests use PackagedAuto?
2 parts
All of this mod's quests sit in one chapter, "Packaged", in the Production group. It is chapter 26 of 44 in the book and holds 29 quests. Most of them ask you to obtain a single item, so you work through it by unlocking one machine after another.[9]
The core line
- "PackagedAuto – Introduction" quest opens the chapter and asks for the Patchouli guide book.[9]
- These quests unlock after it: "Settings Cloner" quest (asks for Packaging Settings Cloner), "Package Recipe Holder" quest (asks for Package Recipe Holder) and "Package Recipe Encoder" quest (asks for Package Recipe Encoder).[9]
- These quests come after the encoder quest. "Crafting" quest asks for Package Crafter. "What Is the Crafting Proxy?" quest asks for Package Crafting Machine Proxy and Proxy Marker. "Positioned Processing" quest asks for Positioned Package Distributor and Distributor Marker.[9]
- These quests come after the Crafting quest: "Fluid Package Filler" quest (Fluid Package Filler), "Packager" quest (Packager) and "Unpackager" quest (Unpackager).[9]
- "ME Packaging Provider" quest asks for ME Packaging Provider and needs both the Packager and Unpackager quests. "Packager Extension" quest asks for Packager Extension and follows the Packager quest.[9]
The extra crafter quests
Once you finish the ME Packaging Provider quest, the chapter fans out into a batch of quests, each asking for its own crafter item: "Advanced Crafting" quest, "Elite Crafting" quest, "Epic Crafting" quest, "Ender Crafting" quest, "Ultimate Crafting" quest, "Flux Crafting" quest, "Combination Crafting" quest, "Fusion Crafting" quest, "Sculk Crafting" quest and a quest in "Packaged". Combination Crafting asks for both a combination crafter and a marked pedestal. The rest ask for one item each.[9]
Fusion Crafting and Sculk Crafting continue into longer chains.[9]
- The Fusion chain: "Fusion Crafting" quest leads to a quest in "Packaged", then a quest in "Packaged", then a quest in "Packaged", and it ends with a quest in "Packaged".[9]
- The Sculk chain: "Sculk Crafting" quest leads to "Nether Crafting" quest, then "End Crafting" quest, and it ends with "Extreme Crafting" quest.[9]
