Which Mekanism config options matter?
7 parts
Same as in the Project Infinity 0.1 0.0.51.4-hotfix-2 guide
Most of Mekanism works as you would expect, but a few settings in this pack matter a lot. Here are the ones I would check first, with the exact values the pack uses.[1]
Radiation is switched off
The pack sets general.radiation.radiationEnabled to false, so worldwide radiation effects are disabled. The config comment itself says not to be a downer and disable it, so this is a deliberate pack choice. The other radiation options are still in the file, for example general.radiation.chunkCheckRadius at 5 and general.radiation.negativeEffectsMinSeverity at 0.1.[1]
Fusion reactor settings
The fusion reactor in this pack is configured through a separate file, bfr.toml. These are the settings you will want to know about:[2]
- bfr.better_fusion_reactor.reactor_meltdown is false, so the reactor does not explode when it reaches 100% error level.[2]
- bfr.better_fusion_reactor.reactor_explosion_radius is 4 (TNT size) and bfr.better_fusion_reactor.reaction_difficulty is 10, both matching the defaults noted in the file's comments.[2]
- bfr.better_fusion_reactor.hide_original_mek_recipes is true, so the original Mekanism fusion reactor recipes are hidden.[2]
- bfr.better_fusion_reactor.fusion_coolants allows water (which becomes steam) and sodium (which becomes superheated sodium).[2]
Fission reactor meltdowns
Fission reactors are different: generators.fission_reactor.meltdownsEnabled is true, so they can melt down. The meltdown chance is 0.001 once damage passes 100%, and it scales up as damage keeps rising. The explosion radius is 8, and the reactor resets to 75 damage afterwards. Fuel and waste radioactivity is multiplied by 50 during a meltdown. Keep an eye on your cooling.[3]
Energy display and conversion
The GUIs show Forge Energy, since common.energyType is FORGE_ENERGY, and temperatures show in Celsius. Internally, Forge Energy converts to Joules at 2.5 per FE.[1][4]
Digital Miner
The Digital Miner reaches up to 32 blocks (general.digital_miner.maxRadius) and takes 80 ticks to mine a block without upgrades (general.digital_miner.ticksPerMine). Silk touch mode uses a 12x energy multiplier. The config comment strongly recommends leaving the radius alone, because raising it can hurt stability and performance.[1]
Storage tiers
Tier sizes are set in tiers.toml. Basic bins hold 4,096 items and Ultimate bins hold 262,144. Basic energy cubes store 4,000,000 Joules and Ultimate energy cubes store 256,000,000.[5]
Compact machine settings
The pack also has a compactmachines.toml with very large numbers. The compact fission reactor burns up to 192,000 fuel per tick (compactfissionreactor.burnrate), and the compact turbine uses 150 virtual blades (compactturbine.blades).[6]
Unverified The gear.toml, world.toml and tools.toml files in the Mekanism config folder exist in this pack, but their values are not covered here. Open those files directly to see how this pack sets them.
