What is Eccentric Tome?
Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.18.0 guide
Eccentric Tome is part of the pack's mod list. This version of the pack ships Eccentric Tome 1.21.1-1.2.0, and the mod has been in the pack since version 1.13.0 or earlier.[1]
Unverified The sources I have for this section only confirm that the mod is installed and which version it is. They don't describe what Eccentric Tome does, its recipes or configs, or where it fits in the pack's progression. I also have no confirmation of a quest or ATM Star path involving it, so I won't guess at any of those. Check the in-game item tooltips and the mod's own documentation for details.
How do you get started with Eccentric Tome?
1 part
Your first step with Eccentric Tome is simple: make an Eccentric Tome. It is the mod's only crafted item in this pack, so there is no long chain to work through before you have it.[2][3]
A shapeless recipe, so the ingredients can go anywhere in the crafting grid.
What the pack lets the tome take
The pack's config keeps common.allitems set to false. So the tome does not accept every item. It only accepts items that match the pack's whitelists and are not on its blacklist.[4]
- common.names whitelists items by name. The words include book, tome, lexicon, manual, guide, codex and journal.[4]
- common.items whitelists specific items. These include the IntegratedDynamics book (from IntegratedDynamics), the personal shrinking device (from Compact Machines) and the info tablet (from Draconic Evolution).[4]
- common.exclude_items blacklists items. This includes the plain book, the enchanted book, the ProjectE tome (ProjectE), the Apotheosis tomes (Apotheosis) and the Dark Utilities tomes (Dark Utilities).[4]
- common.aliases treats some add-ons as part of a parent mod. For example, integratedtunnels, integratedterminals and integratedcrafting are mapped to integrateddynamics.[4]
common.disable_overlay is false in the pack, so the overlay that previews tome conversion is not disabled.[4]
Unverified The sources here do not show how the tome is used step by step in game, because no in-jar guidebook or reusable documentation was found for this mod. No quests in this pack involve it either. The whitelist and blacklist settings live in config/eccentrictome-common.toml.
How does Eccentric Tome work?
4 parts
Eccentric Tome has no machines, multiblocks, power or fluid handling that the sources describe. What the sources do show is how the Eccentric Tome is crafted and how the pack configures which items it accepts, so that is what this section covers.[2][4]
Crafting the tome
A shapeless recipe: a vanilla book plus any item from the bookshelves tag.
What the pack's config controls
Everything below lives in common.allitems and its neighbouring options in the common config file. In this pack, allitems is false, so not every item is allowed into the tome. Instead the pack relies on a whitelist of names and a whitelist of specific items.[4]
The name whitelist, common.names, holds these words: book, tome, lexicon, nomicon, manual, knowledge, pedia, compendium, guide, codex, journal, enchiridion and grimoire.[4]
The item whitelist, common.items, names specific books the pack wants included. Examples are the info tablet from Draconic Evolution, the personal shrinking device from Compact Machines, and the on_the_dynamics_of_integration book from IntegratedDynamics. The list also covers books from other mods such as Ice and Fire, Ad Astra and Wizards Reborn.[4]
The tag whitelist, common.include_item_tags, is empty in this pack. The mod blacklist, common.exclude, is empty too, so no whole mod is blocked.[4]
Items the pack blocks
The pack fills common.exclude_items to keep out things that match the name whitelist but are not guidebooks. The blocked entries include:[4]
- The armor, weapon, bow, fishing, pickaxe, scrap and other tomes from Apotheosis.[4]
- The books and tomes from Dark Utilities, such as its galactic, runelic and restore books and its enchanting, illager, pigpen, runelic, sga and shadows tomes.[4]
- The tome from ProjectE.[4]
- Vanilla Book and Enchanted Book.[4]
- Other non-guide books, including the ancient tome from Quark and the Tombstone books of disenchantment, recycling, repairing and magic impregnation.[4]
Aliases and the overlay
common.aliases pairs some mod ids with another mod id. In this pack, integratedtunnels, integratedterminals and integratedcrafting are paired with integrateddynamics. The rftools add-ons, deepresonance and xnet are paired with rftoolsbase. Mythic Botany is paired with botania, and mysticalaggraditions with mysticalagriculture.[4]
common.disable_overlay is false in this pack. Its config comment describes it as the option that disables the overlay previewing tome conversion, so that overlay is left enabled.[4]
How do you progress through Eccentric Tome?
The Eccentric Tome mod doesn't have a tier ladder. The sources here show a single craftable item, the Eccentric Tome, so there is nothing to upgrade or unlock in stages.[2]
The Eccentric Tome is a shapeless crafting recipe, so the ingredients can go anywhere in the grid. It takes a book and a bookshelf. Any item in the bookshelves tag works for the shelf, so you aren't tied to one wood type.[2]
The in-pack recipe for the Eccentric Tome, a shapeless craft.
Unverified Where the Eccentric Tome sits in the pack's quest book (chapter, group and position) is not shown in the sources here, so this guide doesn't place it on a progression path.
Which Eccentric Tome config options matter?
4 parts
Everything for Eccentric Tome lives in one file, config/eccentrictome-common.toml. Here is how this pack sets each option, so you know which books the tome is set up to handle.[4]
Switches left off
- common.allitems is false. The file describes it as allowing all items to be added, and this pack leaves it off.[4]
- common.disable_overlay is false. It disables the overlay that previews tome conversion, so the preview stays enabled.[4]
- common.exclude is an empty list, so no whole mods are blacklisted. common.include_item_tags is also empty, so no item tags are whitelisted.[4]
Whitelisted names and items
common.names holds the whitelisted names: book, tome, lexicon, nomicon, manual, knowledge, pedia, compendium, guide, codex, journal, enchiridion and grimoire.[4]
common.items whitelists specific items by id. One example is Information Tablet. The list also covers guides from Integrated Dynamics, EvilCraft, Cooking for Blockheads, The One Probe, Compact Machines, Roots Classic and Enigmatic Legacy, plus a few more from other mods.[4]
Blacklisted items
common.exclude_items is where the pack blocks items that look like books but are not guidebooks. It includes Book, Enchanted Book and Tome of Knowledge. The Apotheosis tomes are blocked too, such as Tome of the Miners and Tome of Weaponry. The list also covers Dark Utilities books and tomes, and several Tombstone books.[4]
Mod aliases
common.aliases maps some mod names onto another mod's name. In this pack, mythicbotany maps to botania, mysticalaggraditions maps to mysticalagriculture, and the Integrated Dynamics add-ons (integratedtunnels, integratedterminals, integratedcrafting) map to integrateddynamics. The RFTools add-ons, deepresonance and xnet all map to rftoolsbase. The rftoolspower entry appears twice in the list.[4]
