What is Curvy Pipes?
2 parts
Curvy Pipes is a logistics mod where the pipes aren't blocks. You draw them as arbitrary curves and branches, so you can fit several pipes into one block space or run them alongside other mods' blocks. Pipes also have full collision, so you can build a ramp out of them and walk on it. This pack includes version 1.15.8.[1][2]
What the pipes do
- Item pipes and fluid pipes can both filter and regulate how much is stored in the attached inventory. Item pipes can also push items to other pipe ends (Extract) or pull items from them (Retrieve).[1]
- Throughput is accurate: the thinnest pipe in a run is the bottleneck. Branching into parallel pipes and then reconverging behaves like one thicker section.[1]
- Pipes can pass through unloaded chunks and work normally as long as the machines they attach to are loaded.[1]
- You can make item pipes transparent by right-clicking with glass. Items still transfer instantly, and the traveling items you see are only a visual clue, so don't overuse transparency.[1]
- There is also a redstone cable (Redstone Cable), which conducts weak redstone signal like vanilla redstone wire but uses the mod's grid-free system.[1][3]
If Applied Energistics (AE2) is installed, ME cables can be made curvy by using them in your off-hand. The mod also supports GregTech cables and pipes and CC: Tweaked networking cable.[1]
The mod says pipe types and recipes can be customized by modpacks, and points to config/curvy_pipes_default.yaml for the details.[1]
In the quest book
The pack's quest book has a quest called "Curvy Pipes" quest. It is in the chapter "Useful mods and Items", chapter 3 of 44 in the book, which has 37 quests. The quest asks you to get these items: Redstone Cable, Small Item Pipe, Small Fluid Pipe and Small Energy Pipe.[3]
How do you get started with Curvy Pipes?
4 parts
Curvy Pipes is the logistics mod for moving items, fluids and energy through pipes that can bend into any shape you like. In the quest book it sits in the chapter "Useful mods and Items" (chapter 3 of 44), in the quest "Curvy Pipes" quest. That quest asks for a Redstone Cable, a Small Item Pipe, a Small Fluid Pipe and a Small Energy Pipe. That makes a handy shopping list for your first session, so we'll go in that order.[1][3][4]
Step 1: the three small pipes
Small pipes are the starting tier, and you need one of each type. The pack gives each type its own base recipe, so craft all three and you've covered three of the four items the quest asks for.[3][4]

Step 2: the redstone cable
The last item in the quest is the cable. This is the mod's own recipe, not one the pack added, and a single craft gives you 8 cables.[3][4]
Crafting Shapeless

The cable conducts a weak direct redstone signal. The signal doesn't decay inside the cable or when it connects to redstone devices, but it drops by 1 when it connects to the vanilla version.[5]
Step 3: tiny pipes when space is tight
In the recipes I can see, tiny pipes come from splitting a small pipe into 4, and 4 tiny pipes can be crafted back into one small pipe. Each of the three types has its own pair of these recipes. Pipes from this mod aren't block-based, so several can share a block space, and tiny ones even fit in a 3-pixel gap.[1][4]
Splitting a small item pipe into 4 tiny ones. The fluid and energy versions work the same way.
Step 4: upgrading later
Medium, large and huge pipes each have their own recipe for every pipe type, and the pack added all of them. You can also break a bigger pipe down into 4 of the size below.[4]

How does Curvy Pipes work?
6 parts
Curvy Pipes is a logistics mod where the pipes are not blocks. You draw them as arbitrary curved shapes, and you can build a whole network of curves and branches. Because they aren't block-based, several pipes can sit in the same block space, and they can even share space with other mods' blocks. Tiny pipes, for example, fit in the 3-pixel gap above a Create depot.[1]
The pipes also have full collision physics, so you can build things like a ramp you can walk on.[1]
Pipe types and sizes
There are item, fluid and energy pipes, and each kind comes in sizes from tiny up to huge. For items that is Tiny Item Pipe, Small Item Pipe, Medium Item Pipe, Large Item Pipe and Huge Item Pipe. Fluid pipes run from Tiny Fluid Pipe up to Huge Fluid Pipe, and energy pipes from Tiny Energy Pipe up to Huge Energy Pipe. The sizes in between follow the same naming: small, medium and large.[4]
Throughput is accurate, so the thinnest pipe in a run is the bottleneck. If you branch into parallel pipes and then merge them again, it behaves exactly like one thicker section.[1]
Pipes can pass through unloaded chunks. They work normally as long as the machines they attach to are loaded.[1]
Crafting and resizing in this pack
The pack adds its own recipes for the pipes. Small pipes are the entry point, and each kind has its own base recipe.[4]

From there you step up one size at a time. Each upgrade is a shapeless recipe that uses an alloy from Mekanism or Evolved Mekanism. Item pipes are shown here, and fluid and energy pipes have matching recipes of their own.[4][6]

You can also go back down. A single pipe of one size breaks into 4 pipes of the next size down, and 4 tiny pipes combine back into one small pipe. Here is the huge-to-large step for item pipes. The other kinds and sizes have matching recipes.[4]
Moving items: Extract and Retrieve
Item pipes can work in two directions. Extract actively pushes items to other pipe ends. Retrieve actively pulls items from other pipe ends. In the pipe's screen the hints read "Push to connected passive ends" and "Pull from connected passive ends".[1][5]
Each pipe has an interval, which is the number of ticks between operations, from 1 to 1,200. A low value means frequent small transfers. A high value means infrequent large transfers.[5]
Items transfer instantly and do not actually stay inside the pipes. Any traveling items you see are only a visual clue of past transfers.[1]
Filters and regulation
Both item pipes and fluid pipes can filter and regulate the amount stored in the attached inventory.[1]
- Regulation can keep a set amount of one specific item, or a set amount of total items, in the inventory.[5]
- For fluids the same idea works in mB, either for one specific fluid or for total fluids.[5]
- The lower limit means the pipe stops extracting before the amount drops below it. The upper limit means it stops inserting before the amount goes above it.[5]
- Filters can use regexes matched against namespaced IDs, such as "minecraft:dirt". Only safe regexes are accepted.[5]
Redstone cable
Redstone Cable conducts a weak redstone signal like vanilla redstone wire, but it uses the mod's grid-free system. The signal doesn't decay inside the cable or when it connects to redstone devices. It does decay by 1 when it connects to vanilla redstone wire.[1][5]

Editing and integrations
The mod's project page describes a radial menu for editing nodes. By inserting, moving or deleting nodes you can reshape an existing curve without breaking the pipe. It also describes an optional grid that you enable by middle-clicking empty space, which helps align pipes to regularly spaced points.[1]
If Applied Energistics is installed, ME cables can be made curvy by using them in your off-hand. They can connect directly to cable parts such as buses and terminals. Curvy smart cables display the channel count in-world.[1]
How do you progress through Curvy Pipes?
4 parts
Curvy Pipes gives you three kinds of pipe (item, fluid and energy), and each kind comes in five tiers: tiny, small, medium, large and huge. For example, the item line runs from Tiny Item Pipe through Small Item Pipe, Medium Item Pipe and Large Item Pipe up to Huge Item Pipe.[3][4]
Where the quest book stops
The quest "Curvy Pipes" quest sits in the chapter "Useful mods and Items", which is chapter 3 of 44 in the book. It asks you to hand in Redstone Cable plus the small item, small fluid and small energy pipes. No quest in that chapter asks for anything above the small tier, so from there you follow the recipes below on your own.[3][4]
Small tier: where you start
Each pipe type has its own shaped base recipe for the small pipe, and the pack added all three. Here they are for energy, fluid and item.[3][4]

Every step up the ladder is a shapeless craft that the pack adds with a KubeJS script. You combine four pipes of the tier below with one alloy, and the recipe blocks show which alloy each tier needs. The pattern is identical for item, fluid and energy pipes.[4][6]

Going back down a tier
The pack also adds recipes to convert pipes downward, and they work the same way for all three pipe types:[3][4]
How does Curvy Pipes work with other mods?
4 parts
Curvy Pipes connects to other mods in two main ways in this pack: the upgrade recipes for the pipes use Mekanism-family alloys, and the biggest energy pipe is needed for one endgame Applied Flux recipe.[4][7]
Mekanism alloys upgrade your pipes
The pack adds a crafting chain that lifts each pipe type (item, fluid and energy) through the tiers. Every step takes 4 pipes of the tier below plus one alloy. Small to medium uses Reinforced Alloy, medium to large uses Atomic Alloy, and large to huge uses Hypercharged Alloy.[4][6]
Here is the item pipe line as an example. The fluid and energy pipes follow exactly the same pattern with their own pipes.[4][6]

The Creative ME FE Cell
The Huge Energy Pipe is one of the components in the pack's recipe for the Creative ME FE Cell. That recipe is crafted in an Extended Crafting table and mixes items from Applied Flux, Mekanism, Mekanism Extras, Avaritia, Powah and others, so the pipe is just one piece of a very late-game build.[4][7]

Applied Energistics cables
The mod's own page describes an AE2 integration: with AE2 installed, all types of ME cables can be made curvy by using them in your off-hand. Curvy ME cables can connect directly to cable parts such as buses and terminals, and they work much like the original cables. This comes from the mod itself, and the sources do not show the pack changing it.[1]
In the quest book
The quest "Curvy Pipes" quest sits in the chapter "Useful mods and Items", which is chapter 3 of 44 in the book. It asks you for the Redstone Cable and the small item, fluid and energy pipes: Small Item Pipe, Small Fluid Pipe and Small Energy Pipe.[3]
Which Project Infinity 0.1 quests use Curvy Pipes?
1 part
The pack's quest book has a Curvy Pipes quest in the chapter "Useful mods and Items". That is chapter 3 of 44 in the book, and it holds 37 quests.[3]
The Curvy Pipes quest
The quest is "Curvy Pipes" quest. It asks you to get four items:[3]
The quest has no description text of its own, so the book only lists the items to get.[3]
In this chapter, it is the only quest that asks for Curvy Pipes items.[3]
What changed in Curvy Pipes between versions?
3 parts
Project Infinity 0.1 0.0.51.4-hotfix-2 ships Curvy Pipes 1.15.8 for Minecraft 1.20.1. The mod was already in the pack by 0.0.45.4 or earlier. Here are the notable changes from the mod's own changelogs, newest first.[2]
Recent releases
- 1.15.8 (the version in this pack): fixed crashes when rendering fluid tooltips on newer JEI versions.[2][8]
- 1.15.5: fixed a crash when running on a 64k-page aarch64 OS.[9]
- 1.15.0: added CC: Tweaked (ComputerCraft) integration, in the form of the curvy networking cable.[10]
1.14.0
This release added a fun visual option: item pipes can now be made transparent by right-clicking them with glass.[11]
- Pipe items have more detailed tooltips, and item transfer rate is now shown per second rather than per tick.[11]
- Fixed regex not accepting dot wildcards.[11]
- The curve shape preview is optimized.[11]
- On 1.20.1, GT integration now works with GTM v7.5.0, and it is still compatible with older GTM versions.[11]
1.13.5
A large amount of code (rendering, physics and ticking) was refactored in this release. The changelog asks you to report any new bugs or performance regressions.[12]
- Item pipes now support the vanilla composter on 1.16.5 to 1.20.1, which includes this pack's 1.20.1.[2][12]
- All modes of transfer now prefer a closer destination, in addition to paths with higher throughput.[12]
- Fixed a bug where inserting into StorageDrawers sometimes voided excess items.[12]
That release also had fixes for other Minecraft versions: NTM block attaching on 1.7.10, and pipe data syncing after teleport on 1.16.5 to 1.18.2. Neither applies to the 1.20.1 build in this pack.[2][12]
