What is Cable Facades?
1 part
Cable Facades adds facade support to cables, pipes and similar blocks, so you can cover them and hide your wiring. The mod's project page says it works with most cables and blocks in the game.[1]
This pack ships Cable Facades 2.1.3 for Forge 1.20.1.[2]
The project page also says blocks can be made coverable with the block tag #cable_facades:supports_facade.[1]
Where it sits in the quest book
Unverified The sources here do not show any quest chapter, group or position for Cable Facades in this pack's quest book, and they do not show whether the ATM Star path uses it. Check the pack's quest book in game for that.
How do you get started with Cable Facades?
4 parts
Cable Facades adds facades you can place over pipes, cables and similar blocks. In this pack there are a few items to craft, and I'd go through them in this order.[1][3]
Make Facades first
Start with Facade. One craft gives you 16, so a single batch goes a long way.[3]
Crafting Shaped
| any yellow dye | Empty slot | any red dye |
| Empty slot | any wool | Empty slot |
| any red dye | Empty slot | any yellow dye |
Recipe id: cable_facades:facade_item
One craft makes 16 Facades.
Then the Facade Wrench
Next, craft the Facade Wrench. The pack has changed this recipe, so don't rely on the mod's default one. Use the recipe below.[3][4]
Crafting Shaped
| any iron ingot | any iron nugget | any iron ingot |
| Empty slot | any iron ingot | Empty slot |
| Empty slot | any iron ingot | Empty slot |
Recipe id: cable_facades:wrench
This recipe is changed by the pack.
Directional Facades after that
The Directional Facade is a second facade item, and it also comes 16 per craft.[3][4]
Crafting Shaped
| any green dye | Empty slot | any red dye |
| Empty slot | any wool | Empty slot |
| any red dye | Empty slot | any green dye |
Recipe id: cable_facades:directional_facade_item
One craft makes 16 Directional Facades.
What you can cover
Facades only work on blocks listed in blocks. In this pack that list includes Mekanism cables, pipes, tubes and transporters, Thermal ducts, GregTech wires and pipes, Applied Energistics 2 cable buses, Refined Storage cables and more. You can add your own entries to that option, and it supports a wildcard.[1][5]
Blocks with create in their id are listed in scale_up_blocks, which marks them as needing a slight scale-up when covered.[5]
How does Cable Facades work?
5 parts
Cable Facades adds facade support for cables, pipes and other blocks. Which blocks can be covered is set in the config, so that is where most of the mod's behaviour in this pack lives.[1]
What can be covered
The blocks list is the set of blocks that are allowed to be covered, and it supports '*' as a wildcard. In this pack it includes the cable, conductor, pipe, tube and transporter blocks of the mekanism and mekanism_extras namespaces. It also has Thermal ducts (including windowed ones), Powah energy cables, PneumaticCraft tubes, LaserIO laser blocks, Cyclic and Embers pipes, ElementalCraft element pipes, and gtceu wires and pipes.[5]
In this pack the same list also includes the Ender IO conduit, the AE2 cable bus, the Refined Storage cable, importer and exporter, and the Industrial Foregoing Souls soul network pipe and soul surge.[5]
The project page says you can add entries to that list by hand in the config file. It also mentions a block tag, #cable_facades:supports_facade. The not_allowed_blocks list is for blocks explicitly not allowed to be used as a cover, and it is empty in this pack.[1][5]
Getting facades
The plain Facade is crafted in batches, and one craft gives you 16.[3]
Crafting Shaped
| any yellow dye | Empty slot | any red dye |
| Empty slot | any wool | Empty slot |
| any red dye | Empty slot | any yellow dye |
Recipe id: cable_facades:facade_item
The Directional Facade is also crafted in batches of 16.[3]
Crafting Shaped
| any green dye | Empty slot | any red dye |
| Empty slot | any wool | Empty slot |
| any red dye | Empty slot | any green dye |
Recipe id: cable_facades:directional_facade_item
The Facade Wrench has a recipe that this pack changed from the mod's own, so follow the one below rather than any other guide.[3]
Crafting Shaped
| any iron ingot | any iron nugget | any iron ingot |
| Empty slot | any iron ingot | Empty slot |
| Empty slot | any iron ingot | Empty slot |
Recipe id: cable_facades:wrench
Placing and toggling
In this pack consumeFacade is set to true. The file describes that option as whether the facade is consumed when placed.[5]
The mod's language file has a tooltip that reads: "Right click to toggle/disable facade transparency".[4]
Rendering fixes
A few config lists deal with how covered blocks look, and the file describes each of them as supporting '*' wildcards. This is how the pack sets them:[5]
- hidden_when_facaded lists blocks that should not render when covered. It is empty in this pack.[5]
- scale_up_blocks lists blocks that need a slight scale-up when facaded, for example Create mod blocks. This pack sets it to "*create*".[5]
- z_fighting lists blocks that need z-fighting fixes. This pack sets it to ae2:cable_bus.[5]
Config upkeep
auto_update_config is true in this pack. The file describes it as whether new blocks for the config should be fetched from the network. configVersion is the config version, and the file says to increment it to apply changes.[5]
The file says not to edit last_version_blocks and lastConfigVersion by hand. added_blocks is described in the file as the list of additional blocks added in that version of the config, and it is empty here.[5]
How do you progress through Cable Facades?
3 parts
Cable Facades has no tier ladder in this pack. Each of its items has its own recipe, so you can craft whichever you need in any order. The sections below go through them one by one.[3]
Facades
The basic Facade uses the mod's own recipe, unchanged by the pack, and one craft gives you 16 facades.[3]
Crafting Shaped
| any yellow dye | Empty slot | any red dye |
| Empty slot | any wool | Empty slot |
| any red dye | Empty slot | any yellow dye |
Recipe id: cable_facades:facade_item
Directional Facades
The Directional Facade also uses the mod's own recipe and also gives you 16 per craft. It takes a different pair of dyes from the basic facade.[3]
Crafting Shaped
| any green dye | Empty slot | any red dye |
| Empty slot | any wool | Empty slot |
| any red dye | Empty slot | any green dye |
Recipe id: cable_facades:directional_facade_item
Facade Wrench
The recipe for the Facade Wrench is changed by the pack, so don't assume the mod's default recipe. The one below is what you craft in this pack.[3]
Crafting Shaped
| any iron ingot | any iron nugget | any iron ingot |
| Empty slot | any iron ingot | Empty slot |
| Empty slot | any iron ingot | Empty slot |

Which Cable Facades config options matter?
4 parts
All of the Cable Facades settings live in the file config/cable_facades-common.toml. Most of what you'll want to change is which blocks can wear a facade, and this pack already ships a long list.[1][5]
Which blocks can be covered
blocks is the list of blocks that are allowed to be covered, and it supports '*' as a wildcard. This pack fills it with cables, pipes, tubes, conduits and similar blocks from the mekanism, mekanism_extras, thermal, powah, pneumaticcraft, laserio, cyclic, embers, elementalcraft, gtceu, enderio, ae2, refinedstorage and industrialforegoingsouls namespaces.[5]
If a cable from another mod won't take a facade, you can add an entry to that list by hand, in the same form as "mekanism:*_cable". The mod page also says blocks can be supported through the block tag #cable_facades:supports_facade.[1][5]
not_allowed_blocks is the opposite list, for blocks that are explicitly not allowed to be used as a cover. In this pack it is empty.[5]
Placing facades
consumeFacade is set to true in this pack, so the facade is consumed when you place it.[5]
Rendering fixes
- scale_up_blocks lists blocks that need a slight scale-up when facaded, with Create blocks given as the example. The pack sets it to "*create*".[5]
- z_fighting lists blocks that need z-fighting fixes. The pack sets it to "ae2:cable_bus" only.[5]
- hidden_when_facaded lists blocks that should not render when covered by a facade. The pack leaves it empty.[5]
Options best left alone
auto_update_config is true in this pack, which means new blocks for the config can be fetched from the network. added_blocks is empty here.[5]
configVersion is the config version, and its comment says to increment it to apply changes. lastConfigVersion and last_version_blocks are marked "Do not modify manually", so leave both of those alone.[5]
What changed in Cable Facades between versions?
3 parts
Project Infinity 0.1 0.0.51.4-hotfix-2 ships Cable Facades 2.1.3 for 1.20.1. The mod has been in the pack since 0.0.45.4 or earlier. There are no pack changelog entries for this mod, so everything below comes from the mod's own changelogs.[2]
2.0.2: the rewrite
This release was a rewrite from the 1.21.1 version. The changelog promises no more lag and no more shader issues. It also added directional facades.[6]
2.1.0: ghost blocks and cleanup
- Fixed facades persisting as ghost blocks when switching dimensions, changing worlds, or disconnecting from servers.[7]
- Fixed individually placed directional facades not being cleaned up when their chunk unloads.[7]
- Fixed removing a directional facade face from a position that has a full-block facade accidentally deleting the full-block facade.[7]
- Fixed directional facades from Fusion and Rechiseled rendering as invisible, which was caused by per-layer quad filtering.[7]
2.1.3: the version in your pack
- Fixed a world freeze when loading chunks containing structures with facades, such as jigsaw villages and structure block placements during worldgen.[8]
- Fixed facades not rendering after reloading a world or switching dimension. The fix mimics NeoForge's ChunkWatchEvent.Sent timing via a ChunkMap mixin.[8]
That's the full list from the changelogs available for this guide, so any releases not covered by them aren't described here.[6][7][8]
