What is Cable Facades?

1 part

Same as in the Project Infinity 0.1 0.0.51.4-hotfix-2 guide

Cable Facades adds facade support to cables, pipes and similar blocks, so you can cover them and hide your wiring. The mod's project page says it works with most cables and blocks in the game.[1]

This pack ships Cable Facades 2.1.3 for Forge 1.20.1.[2]

The project page also says blocks can be made coverable with the block tag #cable_facades:supports_facade.[1]

Where it sits in the quest book

Unverified The sources here do not show any quest chapter, group or position for Cable Facades in this pack's quest book, and they do not show whether the ATM Star path uses it. Check the pack's quest book in game for that.

How do you get started with Cable Facades?

4 parts

Welcome to Cable Facades! This mod lets you cover cables, pipes and similar blocks with facades, so your pipe and cable runs can look tidy. Crafting is quick, so you can get going right away.[1]

Make some facades first

Start with the Facade. One craft of this recipe makes 16 of them.[3]

Keep in mind that in this pack consumeFacade is set to true, so a facade is used up when you place it.[4]

The Directional Facade

The Directional Facade is another facade item in the mod. Like the basic one, it comes out 16 at a time.[3][5]

The Facade Wrench

Finally, craft the Facade Wrench. It is a tool rather than a placeable facade, so the recipe makes just the wrench.[3][5]

What can you cover?

In this pack, blocks is set to a wildcard, so any block is allowed to be covered. not_allowed_blocks is empty, so nothing is explicitly banned.[4]

The pack's config also has a list of additional blocks added in this version, including the Refined Storage cable, importer and exporter from Refined Storage.[4]

  • The AE2 cable bus from Applied Energistics 2 is listed in z_fighting, which is the setting for blocks that need z-fighting fixes.[4]
  • Blocks matching the wildcard pattern for Create are listed in scale_up_blocks, which is for blocks that need a slight scale-up when facaded.[4]
Tip: If a cable you use is not covered, you can add entries to the blocks list in cable_facades-common.toml, using the wildcard '*' to match several at once.[1][4]

How does Cable Facades work?

5 parts

Cable Facades adds facade support for cables, pipes and other blocks. The mod is a few items plus a config file, and the config decides which blocks can be covered and how they render.[1]

The items

The items to know are Facade, Directional Facade and the Facade Wrench. Their in-pack recipes are shown below.[3]

The mod includes a tooltip that reads: Right click to toggle/disable facade transparency. That is the way to switch a facade's transparency on and off.[5]

What can be covered

In this pack, blocks is set to the wildcard "*", so any block is allowed to be covered. The option supports wildcards, so a pack can also list narrower patterns. The mod's page shows pipez and mekanism cable patterns as examples of that format.[1][4]

To keep something from being covered, use not_allowed_blocks, the list of blocks explicitly not allowed as a cover. It is empty in this pack. The mod also provides a block tag, #cable_facades:supports_facade, as another way to mark blocks as supported.[1][4]

Placing and consuming facades

consumeFacade is true in this pack, so a facade is consumed when you place it.[4]

Rendering fixes

Some blocks need extra help to look right under a facade, and the config has lists for that. Each list supports wildcards.[4]

  • scale_up_blocks lists blocks that need a slight scale-up when facaded, such as Create blocks. As set in this pack's config version, it is "*create*".[4]
  • z_fighting lists blocks that need z-fighting fixes. As set in this pack's config version, it holds the Applied Energistics 2 cable bus, ae2:cable_bus.[4]
  • hidden_when_facaded lists blocks that should not render when covered by a facade. It is empty in this pack.[4]

Blocks added by the config

added_blocks holds the additional blocks added in this version of the config. In this pack that is the Refined Storage cable, importer and exporter, plus toms_storage:inventory_cable, industrialforegoingsouls:soul_network_pipe, industrialforegoingsouls:soul_surge and modern_industrialization:pipe.[4]

auto_update_config is true, which means new blocks for the config are fetched from the network. The mod's page also asks players to share their configs so support can grow.[1][4]

Watch out: Leave last_version_blocks and lastConfigVersion alone, because the config marks both as not to be modified manually. configVersion is the number you increment to apply config changes.[4]

How do you progress through Cable Facades?

3 parts

Cable Facades adds its items in this pack through its own crafting recipes. Here is what each one makes.[3]

Which Cable Facades config options matter?

4 parts

Cable Facades keeps its settings in one file, blocks and its neighbours all live in config/cable_facades-common.toml. Here is what this pack sets, and which options you are most likely to touch.[1][4]

What can be covered

  • blocks is set to ["*"]. The option is the list of blocks that are allowed to be covered, and the wildcard means this pack allows every block.[4]
  • not_allowed_blocks is set to an empty list in this pack. The file describes it as the list of blocks explicitly not allowed to be used as a cover, so nothing is on it here.[4]
  • hidden_when_facaded is empty too, so no blocks are set to stop rendering when a facade covers them.[4]

If you want to add entries by hand, the mod page says you can edit the blocks list in that file and use '*' as a wildcard. It also mentions a block tag, #cable_facades:supports_facade.[1]

Placing facades

consumeFacade is true in this pack, which means the facade item is consumed when you place it.[4]

Rendering fixes

  • scale_up_blocks is set to ["*create*"]. These blocks get a slight scale-up when facaded, and the file gives Create blocks as the example.[4]
  • z_fighting is set to ["ae2:cable_bus"] in this pack. The file describes the option as the list of blocks that need z-fighting fixes, and this entry is the cable bus from Applied Energistics 2.[4]

Extra supported blocks

added_blocks lists additional blocks added in this version: refinedstorage:cable, refinedstorage:importer, refinedstorage:exporter, toms_storage:inventory_cable, industrialforegoingsouls:soul_network_pipe, industrialforegoingsouls:soul_surge and modern_industrialization:pipe. The Refined Storage entries come from Refined Storage.[4]

auto_update_config is true, so the config is allowed to fetch new blocks from the network.[4]

Watch out: Leave last_version_blocks and lastConfigVersion alone: the file marks both as not to be modified manually. configVersion is 1 and lastConfigVersion is 0, and both match the mod default.[4]

What changed in Cable Facades between versions?

1 part

FTB Evolution 2 1.1.0 ships Cable Facades 2.1.4, built for 26.1.2 on NeoForge. The mod was already in the pack by 1.0.2 or earlier, so it isn't a new addition in this release.[6]

Cable Facades 2.1.4

The 2.1.4 release is a fixes-only update. Both fixes are about rendering facades when Sodium 0.8 is installed:[7]

  • Fixed a crash when rendering facades of some blocks with Sodium 0.8. The changelog names Create Deco catwalks on directional facades and covers as the cases that triggered it.[7]
  • Fixed facades of some blocks rendering as invisible with Sodium 0.8 and CodeChickenLib installed. The changelog names Create Deco supports as the affected blocks.[7]

If you have ever seen a facade vanish or crash your game while covering a cable with a Create Deco block, this is the update that addresses it.[7]
