What is Moo Fluids?

Moo Fluids is part of the pack's mod list. This pack ships version 1.3.4, built for NeoForge on Minecraft 1.21.1. It has been in the pack since 1.0.0 or earlier, so it isn't a recent addition.[1]

Unverified The sources I have don't describe what Moo Fluids actually does, who it is aimed at, or where it fits in the pack's progression. There is no guidebook, platform description, recipe or config data for it, so I'm not guessing at its mechanics. I also can't confirm any ATM Star path involvement or quests that use it. Check back once more data is available for this mod.

How do you get started with Moo Fluids?

4 parts

Same as in the FTB StoneBlock 4 1.21.0 guide

Moo Fluids is all about fluid cows, and the first thing you need is a way to carry them around. That's the Fluid Cow Jar. Make it before anything else, because it's how you capture a fluid cow once you find one.[2][3]

Craft a Fluid Cow Jar

The jar is a shaped crafting recipe, and it accepts any glass block and any wooden slab, so use whatever you have on hand. Here's the exact recipe from the pack:[2]

Capture a fluid cow

The jar's tooltip tells you how to capture a cow: drop an anvil on a fluid cow. That's the capture method the mod describes, so line up your anvil drop before you go looking for one.[3]

Release the cow where you want it

When you want the cow back out, shift-click with empty hands to release it. That lets you move a cow from where you found it to wherever you'd like to set up.[3]

Check the recipes in-game

Fluid cows have a JEI tooltip that says to right-click to see fluid recipes and usage. The Alchemy Glass item has a tooltip saying to right-click it to view fluid cow breeding recipes. Use both, because the recipe viewer shows what this pack actually uses.[3]

Unverified No in-jar guidebook was found for Moo Fluids and no quests in this pack involve the mod, so the sources here do not show a guided walkthrough beyond what is on this page. Check JEI in-game for the rest. This site does hold FTB StoneBlock 4's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

How does Moo Fluids work?

5 parts

The sources only cover part of how Moo Fluids works. The core idea is that fluid cows can be captured in a Fluid Cow Jar. The pack's config controls where cows can appear, which fluids they can produce, and how the jar and milking behave.[3][4][5]

The Fluid Cow Jar

The jar is how you capture a fluid cow. Per its tooltip, you drop an anvil on the cow to capture it. To let the cow out again, shift-click with empty hands.[3]

This is the jar's crafting recipe in this pack.

The jar holds a limited amount of fluid, set by cowJarCapacity. In this pack it is 32,000, which is the same as the mod default.[4]

Milking and cooldown

After a fluid cow is milked, it has to wait before you can milk it again. defaultMilkingCooldown sets that wait to 3,600 ticks in this pack, the same as the mod default.[4]

There is also milkCow, which controls whether you can get milk from a fluid cow while it is on cooldown. The pack sets it to false, so that is switched off here. The pack also blacklists minecraft:milk as a fluid for fluid cows.[4]

Where fluid cows come from

The pack sets naturalSpawning to false, so fluid cows do not spawn naturally in the world here.[4]

The mod does have breeding. The tooltip on the Alchemy Glass item says to right-click it to view fluid cow breeding recipes. Fluid cows also show a JEI tooltip saying to right-click to see fluid recipes and usage.[3]

Spawn filters

The config has a few filters that restrict where fluid cows can spawn.[4]

  • biomeSpawnBlacklist blocks fluid cows from specific biomes or biome tags. In this pack it contains minecraft:deep_dark.[4]
  • biomeSpawnWhitelist is empty in this pack. When it is empty all biomes are allowed. If it had entries, only those biomes would allow fluid cow spawns.[4]
  • dimensionSpawnRestrictions can limit a specific fluid's cow to a specific dimension, in the form fluid->dimension. It is empty in this pack, so there are no restrictions.[4]

Which fluids can have cows

fluidBlacklist lists fluids that are blocked from spawning as fluid cows. It accepts single fluids, or a whole mod with the modid:* form. This pack blocks a lot.[4]

  • Whole mods blocked with wildcards include mekanism, create, enderio, actuallyadditions, justdirethings, supplementaries, sophisticatedcore, advanced_ae and several others.[4]
  • Individual fluids are blocked from Industrial Foregoing (fermented_ore_meat and raw_ore_meat), Immersive Engineering (potion), Oritech (several still_ fluids), and many productivemetalworks molten fluids, including molten_diamond, molten_emerald and molten_netherite.[4]
  • ftb:molten_chaos is also on the list.[4]
Tip: If a fluid from one of those mods seems to have no cow, check this blacklist first, because the pack's list blocks it.[4]

How do you progress through Moo Fluids?

Same as in the FTB StoneBlock 4 1.21.0 guide

Moo Fluids has no tier ladder in this pack. The recipe data lists a single recipe that makes a Moo Fluids item: the Fluid Cow Jar. It is a shaped crafting recipe, so you make it at a crafting table like any other shaped recipe.[2]

Recipe id: moofluids:fluid_cow_jar

This is the only recipe in the pack's recipe data that produces a Moo Fluids item.

The recipe asks for tag-based ingredients, so the exact in-pack recipe above shows what it accepts. Check the recipe block rather than relying on a vanilla or default version of the recipe.[2]

Which Moo Fluids config options matter?

3 parts

Moo Fluids keeps all of its settings in one file, and this pack changes how fluid cows show up in the world more than how they work. Here are the options you're most likely to care about and exactly how the pack sets them.[4]

Spawning

  • naturalSpawning is set to false in this pack, so fluid cows do not spawn naturally.[4]
  • biomeSpawnBlacklist contains only minecraft:deep_dark, which blocks fluid cow spawns in the Deep Dark. The option also accepts biome tags.[4]
  • biomeSpawnWhitelist is empty, which means all biomes are allowed. If you ever add entries, only those biomes will allow fluid cow spawns.[4]
  • dimensionSpawnRestrictions is empty, so no fluid cow is tied to a particular dimension.[4]

Which fluids get cows

fluidBlacklist is where the pack does most of its tuning. Anything on this list can't become a fluid cow, and an entry like modid:* blocks every fluid from that mod.[4]

The pack blacklists whole mods with wildcards, including mekanism, enderio, create, justdirethings, supplementaries and several others. It also blocks individual fluids such as minecraft:milk, ftb:molten_chaos and a long run of productivemetalworks molten fluids, including molten diamond, emerald and netherite. A few oritech fluids are blocked too, such as still_biofuel and still_molten_energite.[4]

Tip: If you can't find a fluid cow for a fluid you expected, check the blacklist first. Many fluids from the big tech mods are blocked in this pack.[4]

Milking and storage

  • defaultMilkingCooldown is 3,600 ticks before you can milk a fluid cow again. That matches the mod default, so the pack didn't change it.[4]
  • cowJarCapacity is 32,000, the amount of fluid the cow jar can hold. This also matches the mod default.[4]
  • milkCow is false. This option controls whether you can get milk from a fluid cow while it's on cooldown, so that doesn't happen in this pack.[4]

Unverified The file only lists mod defaults for the milking cooldown and the cow jar capacity, so it's unconfirmed whether the pack changed the spawning options, the milk option or the blacklists from the mod's own defaults.
