What is Moo Fluids?

Moo Fluids is part of the pack's mod list, and this pack ships version 1.3.2 (the NeoForge build for Minecraft 1.21.1). It has been in the pack since 1.0.0 or earlier, so it isn't a recent addition.[1]

Unverified The sources I have don't describe what Moo Fluids actually does, who it's aimed at, or where it fits in the pack's progression, so I can't say more without guessing. No platform page details or in-mod guidebook were available for it. I also found no quests in this pack that involve the mod, and it isn't on the ATM Star quest path.

How do you get started with Moo Fluids?

3 parts

Same as in the FTB StoneBlock 4 1.4.0 guide

Your first item in Moo Fluids is the Fluid Cow Jar. It's how you capture a fluid cow, so everything else in the mod starts with it.[2][3]

Craft the Fluid Cow Jar

The jar uses a shaped crafting recipe that comes from the mod. Here is the exact recipe from the pack:[2]

Capture and release a fluid cow

  1. To capture a fluid cow, drop an anvil on it. The jar's tooltip gives this as the way to catch one.[3]
  2. To let the cow go again, shift-click with empty hands. The jar's tooltip describes this as the way to release it.[3]

Learn the recipes in game

The mod has some built-in help. A fluid cow's JEI tooltip says to right-click it to see fluid recipes and usage. The Alchemy Glass tooltip says to right-click it to view fluid cow breeding recipes.[3]

Tip: Don't hit your cow with the anvil by accident. Capturing is meant to be done with a dropped anvil, so set it up on purpose.[3]

How does Moo Fluids work?

5 parts

Moo Fluids is all about fluid cows, and the sources for this pack only explain a small set of mechanics. There are no machines, multiblocks or power systems that I can confirm, so this section covers what is documented: capturing cows, the Fluid Cow Jar, milking, and the spawn rules the pack sets.[3][4]

Capturing and releasing fluid cows

The Fluid Cow Jar is how you carry a fluid cow around. Its tooltip tells you to drop an anvil on a fluid cow to capture it. To let the cow go again, shift-click with empty hands.[3][5]

Jar capacity and milking

The amount of fluid a cow jar can hold is set by cowJarCapacity. This pack uses 32000, which is the same as the mod default.[4]

After you milk a fluid cow, you have to wait before you can milk it again. defaultMilkingCooldown sets that wait in ticks, and this pack uses 3600, the mod default as well.[4]

milkCow controls whether you can get milk from a fluid cow while it is on cooldown. The pack sets it to false, so that is turned off here.[4]

Spawning rules in this pack

naturalSpawning decides whether fluid cows spawn naturally, and the pack sets it to false. Don't expect to find fluid cows wandering around in the world.[4]

The pack also sets some other spawn options, which are worth knowing about if you edit the config:[4]

  • biomeSpawnBlacklist blocks all fluid cows from spawning in specific biomes. The pack lists only minecraft:deep_dark.[4]
  • biomeSpawnWhitelist is empty, which means all biomes are allowed. If you put anything in it, only those biomes would allow fluid cow spawns.[4]
  • dimensionSpawnRestrictions can lock a specific fluid cow to a specific dimension. The pack leaves it empty, so there are no restrictions.[4]

Which fluids can have cows

fluidBlacklist lists fluids that are not allowed to spawn as cows, and it can use modid:* to ban every fluid from a mod. The pack blacklists minecraft:milk and a number of molten fluids from productivemetalworks, such as molten_diamond, molten_netherite and molten_obsidian. It also bans every fluid from several mods, including mekanism, enderio, create, justdirethings and supplementaries.[4]

Tip: If a fluid you expected has no cow, check the blacklist first. Entire mods are blocked with wildcards in this pack.[4]

Finding recipes in-game

The fluid cow JEI entry says to right-click to see fluid recipes and usage. The Alchemy Glass tooltip says to right-click it to view fluid cow breeding recipes, so breeding is part of the mod.[3]

How do you progress through Moo Fluids?

Same as in the FTB StoneBlock 4 1.4.0 guide

Here's the honest picture for this pack: the only Moo Fluids recipe in the pack's recipe dump is the Fluid Cow Jar, and it is a shaped crafting recipe. That makes it your starting point for the mod.[2]

The only in-pack recipe in the dump that makes a Moo Fluids item.

The dump shows no other Moo Fluids recipes, so there is no recipe-based chain of tiers to walk you through. I won't invent upgrade steps that the pack doesn't show.[2]

Unverified The sources here do not show any quests involving Moo Fluids, so how the pack's quest book guides you through this mod is unverified. Check the quest book in game for any detail on that.

Which Moo Fluids config options matter?

3 parts

Moo Fluids has a single config file in this pack, and most of what it controls is which fluid cows can exist and where they spawn. Here are the options you're most likely to care about, with the values this pack uses.[4]

Spawning

  • naturalSpawning is set to false in this pack, so fluid cows don't spawn naturally.[4]
  • biomeSpawnBlacklist contains only minecraft:deep_dark, so fluid cows are blocked from spawning in the Deep Dark.[4]
  • biomeSpawnWhitelist is empty. An empty whitelist means all biomes are allowed. If you add entries, only those biomes will allow fluid cow spawns.[4]
  • dimensionSpawnRestrictions is empty, so no fluid cow is restricted to a particular dimension. The format is modid:fluid->modid:dimension.[4]

Milking and the cow jar

  • defaultMilkingCooldown is 3,600 ticks, the number of ticks before you can milk a fluid cow again. This matches the mod default.[4]
  • cowJarCapacity is 32,000, the amount of fluid the cow jar can hold. This also matches the mod default.[4]
  • milkCow is false. This option controls whether you can get milk from fluid cows while they are on cooldown, and the pack has it switched off.[4]

The fluid blacklist

The biggest customization is fluidBlacklist. It lists fluids that can't get a fluid cow, and an entry like modid:* disables every fluid from that mod.[4]

In this pack it blocks minecraft:milk and ftb:molten_chaos. It also blocks many individual productivemetalworks fluids, including molten obsidian, glass, emerald, diamond, netherite and enderium. Several oritech molten fluids are blocked too: biosteel, duratium, energite and adamant.[4]

Whole-mod wildcards cover ftboceanmobs, create_dragons_plus, create_shimmer, actuallyadditions, mekanism, enderio, justdirethings, mob_grinding_utils, create, createaddition, create_enchantment_industry, mekanismgenerators, sauce, advanced_ae, sophisticatedcore and supplementaries. So you won't find cows for fluids from any of those mods.[4]

Tip: If a fluid cow for a certain fluid doesn't exist, check the fluid blacklist first. Any fluid from a wildcarded mod is excluded, no matter how common it is.[4]

Unverified Which of the spawning, milking and blacklist values differ from the mod's own defaults is unverified. Only the milking cooldown and cow jar capacity are shown with their defaults, and both match the mod default.
