What is Moo Fluids?

Moo Fluids is one of the mods in this pack. The pack ships version 1.3.2, built for Minecraft 1.21.1 on NeoForge. It has been part of the pack since version 1.0.0 or earlier, so it isn't a recent addition.[1]

Unverified I couldn't confirm what Moo Fluids actually does, who it is aimed at, or where it fits in the pack's progression. The sources I have only list the mod and its version. They contain no recipes, config options, quests or in-game guide entries for it, and I haven't found any link to the ATM Star path. Check the in-game item list and recipe viewer for items from the moofluids namespace until more details are documented. This site does hold FTB StoneBlock 4's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

How do you get started with Moo Fluids?

3 parts

Your first item in Moo Fluids is the Fluid Cow Jar. It's how you capture a fluid cow, so everything else in the mod starts with it.[2][3]

Craft the Fluid Cow Jar

The jar uses a shaped crafting recipe that comes from the mod. Here is the exact recipe from the pack:[2]

Capture and release a fluid cow

  1. To capture a fluid cow, drop an anvil on it. The jar's tooltip gives this as the way to catch one.[3]
  2. To let the cow go again, shift-click with empty hands. The jar's tooltip describes this as the way to release it.[3]

Learn the recipes in game

The mod has some built-in help. A fluid cow's JEI tooltip says to right-click it to see fluid recipes and usage. The Alchemy Glass tooltip says to right-click it to view fluid cow breeding recipes.[3]

Tip: Don't hit your cow with the anvil by accident. Capturing is meant to be done with a dropped anvil, so set it up on purpose.[3]

How does Moo Fluids work?

4 parts

Moo Fluids is built around fluid cows. What the pack's files explain is the cow side of the mod: capturing a cow, carrying it in a jar, and the config rules for which cows can exist and how often you can milk them. Here is how it works.[3][4]

Capturing and releasing cows

You catch a fluid cow with the Fluid Cow Jar. The jar's tooltip tells you to drop an anvil on the cow to capture it. To let the cow out again, shift-click with empty hands.[3]

Jar capacity and milking

The jar's fluid storage is set by cowJarCapacity. This pack uses 32,000, which matches the mod default, so nothing is changed here.[4]

defaultMilkingCooldown is the number of ticks before you can milk a fluid cow again. The pack sets it to 3,600, which is also the mod default.[4]

There is also milkCow. When it is on, you can get milk from a fluid cow while it is on cooldown. In this pack it is set to false, so don't count on that.[4]

Finding and breeding cows

naturalSpawning is false in this pack, so fluid cows do not spawn naturally in the world. The spawn filters are still configured. biomeSpawnBlacklist contains only minecraft:deep_dark. biomeSpawnWhitelist and dimensionSpawnRestrictions are both empty. An empty whitelist means all biomes are allowed.[4]

The mod's tooltips point you to the in-game recipe views. The Alchemy Glass shows fluid cow breeding recipes when you right-click it. In JEI, right-clicking a fluid cow shows its fluid recipes and usage.[3]

Which fluids can have cows

The pack uses fluidBlacklist to stop many fluids from getting a cow. The list takes single fluids or a whole mod with the modid:* format. It includes minecraft:milk and a long run of fluids from Productive Metalworks, such as molten glass, diamond, emerald and netherite.[4]

Whole-mod entries in the pack cover ftboceanmobs, create_dragons_plus, create_shimmer, actuallyadditions, mekanism, enderio, justdirethings, mob_grinding_utils, create, createaddition, create_enchantment_industry, mekanismgenerators, sauce, advanced_ae, sophisticatedcore and supplementaries. A few single fluids are also blocked, including the Industrial Foregoing ore meat fluids, the Immersive Engineering potion, ftb:molten_chaos and several Oritech fluids.[4]

How do you progress through Moo Fluids?

Here's the honest picture for this pack: the only Moo Fluids recipe in the pack's recipe dump is the Fluid Cow Jar, and it is a shaped crafting recipe. That makes it your starting point for the mod.[2]

The only in-pack recipe in the dump that makes a Moo Fluids item.

The dump shows no other Moo Fluids recipes, so there is no recipe-based chain of tiers to walk you through. I won't invent upgrade steps that the pack doesn't show.[2]

Unverified The sources here do not show any quests involving Moo Fluids, so how the pack's quest book guides you through this mod is unverified. Check the quest book in game for any detail on that.

Which Moo Fluids config options matter?

3 parts

Same as in the FTB StoneBlock 4 1.5.0 guide

Moo Fluids keeps all of its settings in one file, and this pack changes how fluid cows show up in the world more than how they work. Here are the options you're most likely to care about and exactly how the pack sets them.[5]

Spawning

  • naturalSpawning is set to false in this pack, so fluid cows do not spawn naturally.[5]
  • biomeSpawnBlacklist contains only minecraft:deep_dark, which blocks fluid cow spawns in the Deep Dark. The option also accepts biome tags.[5]
  • biomeSpawnWhitelist is empty, which means all biomes are allowed. If you ever add entries, only those biomes will allow fluid cow spawns.[5]
  • dimensionSpawnRestrictions is empty, so no fluid cow is tied to a particular dimension.[5]

Which fluids get cows

fluidBlacklist is where the pack does most of its tuning. Anything on this list can't become a fluid cow, and an entry like modid:* blocks every fluid from that mod.[5]

The pack blacklists whole mods with wildcards, including mekanism, enderio, create, justdirethings, supplementaries and several others. It also blocks individual fluids such as minecraft:milk, ftb:molten_chaos and a long run of productivemetalworks molten fluids, including molten diamond, emerald and netherite. A few oritech fluids are blocked too, such as still_biofuel and still_molten_energite.[5]

Tip: If you can't find a fluid cow for a fluid you expected, check the blacklist first. Many fluids from the big tech mods are blocked in this pack.[5]

Milking and storage

  • defaultMilkingCooldown is 3,600 ticks before you can milk a fluid cow again. That matches the mod default, so the pack didn't change it.[5]
  • cowJarCapacity is 32,000, the amount of fluid the cow jar can hold. This also matches the mod default.[5]
  • milkCow is false. This option controls whether you can get milk from a fluid cow while it's on cooldown, so that doesn't happen in this pack.[5]

Unverified The file only lists mod defaults for the milking cooldown and the cow jar capacity, so it's unconfirmed whether the pack changed the spawning options, the milk option or the blacklists from the mod's own defaults.
