What is Moo Fluids?

Moo Fluids is included in the pack as version 1.3.2, built for Minecraft 1.21.1 on NeoForge. It has been part of the pack since version 1.0.0 or earlier, so it is a long-standing part of the mod list.[1]

Unverified The sources I have don't describe what Moo Fluids actually does, who it is aimed at, or where it fits in the pack's progression. I have no confirmed recipes, config options or items for it, so I'm leaving those out rather than guessing. The sources also show no ATM Star path or quest involvement for this mod.

How do you get started with Moo Fluids?

3 parts

Same as in the FTB StoneBlock 4 1.4.0 guide

Your first item in Moo Fluids is the Fluid Cow Jar. It's how you capture a fluid cow, so everything else in the mod starts with it.[2][3]

Craft the Fluid Cow Jar

The jar uses a shaped crafting recipe that comes from the mod. Here is the exact recipe from the pack:[2]

Capture and release a fluid cow

  1. To capture a fluid cow, drop an anvil on it. The jar's tooltip gives this as the way to catch one.[3]
  2. To let the cow go again, shift-click with empty hands. The jar's tooltip describes this as the way to release it.[3]

Learn the recipes in game

The mod has some built-in help. A fluid cow's JEI tooltip says to right-click it to see fluid recipes and usage. The Alchemy Glass tooltip says to right-click it to view fluid cow breeding recipes.[3]

Tip: Don't hit your cow with the anvil by accident. Capturing is meant to be done with a dropped anvil, so set it up on purpose.[3]

How does Moo Fluids work?

5 parts

Moo Fluids is built around fluid cows and a jar to carry them in. The sources for this pack don't describe any machines, multiblocks or power systems for the mod, so this section covers the jar, the cows and the pack's config.[3][4][5]

Capturing and releasing cows

The Fluid Cow Jar is how you carry a fluid cow around. Its tooltip tells you to drop an anvil on a fluid cow to capture it, and to shift-click with empty hands to release the cow again.[3]

The jar is a shaped crafting recipe, and the pack uses the mod's own recipe for it.

  1. Find a fluid cow.[3]
  2. Drop an anvil on it to capture it in a Fluid Cow Jar.[3]
  3. Shift-click with empty hands when you want to release the cow.[3]

Finding out what a cow gives you

You don't need to memorise fluids. The JEI tooltip for a fluid cow says to right-click to see fluid recipes and usage. The mod also has an Alchemy Glass item, and its tooltip says to right-click it to view fluid cow breeding recipes.[3]

Jar capacity and milking

In this pack, cowJarCapacity is 32,000, the same as the mod default. The config describes it as the amount of fluid the cow jar can hold.[4]

defaultMilkingCooldown is 3,600 ticks, also the mod default. That is the time before you can milk a fluid cow again.[4]

milkCow is set to false in this pack. When enabled, the option lets you get milk from a fluid cow that is on cooldown, so don't count on that here.[4]

Spawning rules

naturalSpawning is false in this pack, so fluid cows are not set to spawn naturally.[4]

The spawn filters are still configured. biomeSpawnBlacklist contains minecraft:deep_dark. biomeSpawnWhitelist is empty, which the config says means all biomes are allowed. dimensionSpawnRestrictions is also empty, so no cow is restricted to a particular dimension.[4]

Which fluids can have cows

fluidBlacklist decides which fluids are not allowed to spawn as cows. It accepts single fluids like modid:fluid and also modid:* to block every fluid from a mod. The pack's list is long.[4]

  • Vanilla milk (minecraft:milk) is blacklisted.[4]
  • Whole mods are blocked with wildcards, including create, mekanism, enderio, actuallyadditions, justdirethings, supplementaries and several others.[4]
  • Many individual molten fluids from productivemetalworks are blocked, such as molten diamond, molten emerald, molten netherite and molten obsidian.[4]
  • A few other fluids are blocked one by one, including ftb:molten_chaos and some still molten fluids from oritech.[4]
Tip: If you expect a cow for a fluid and can't find any way to get one, check the blacklist first. The fluid or its whole mod may be blocked in this pack.[4]

How do you progress through Moo Fluids?

Same as in the FTB StoneBlock 4 1.4.0 guide

Here's the honest picture for this pack: the only Moo Fluids recipe in the pack's recipe dump is the Fluid Cow Jar, and it is a shaped crafting recipe. That makes it your starting point for the mod.[2]

The only in-pack recipe in the dump that makes a Moo Fluids item.

The dump shows no other Moo Fluids recipes, so there is no recipe-based chain of tiers to walk you through. I won't invent upgrade steps that the pack doesn't show.[2]

Unverified The sources here do not show any quests involving Moo Fluids, so how the pack's quest book guides you through this mod is unverified. Check the quest book in game for any detail on that.

Which Moo Fluids config options matter?

3 parts

Moo Fluids has a single config file, and this pack ships it with a few settings that matter a lot for how you'll actually get fluid cows. The file is naturalSpawning and friends, all inside config/moofluids-common.toml. Here are the ones worth knowing.[4]

Spawning

  • naturalSpawning is set to false in this pack, so fluid cows are not set to spawn naturally in the world.[4]
  • biomeSpawnBlacklist contains only minecraft:deep_dark, so that biome is blocked from spawning fluid cows. The option also accepts biome tags.[4]
  • biomeSpawnWhitelist is empty. According to the config comment, an empty list means all biomes are allowed, and a non-empty list would restrict spawns to only the listed biomes.[4]
  • dimensionSpawnRestrictions is empty, so no fluid cow is tied to a specific dimension through this option.[4]

Unverified The sources don't say whether naturalSpawning differs from the mod's own default, or how you're meant to get fluid cows in this pack with natural spawning off.

Milking and the Cow Jar

  • defaultMilkingCooldown is 3,600 ticks before you can milk a fluid cow again. That is the same as the mod default, so the pack did not change it.[4]
  • cowJarCapacity is 32,000, which is also the mod default. This is how much fluid the cow jar can hold.[4]
  • milkCow is false, so you won't get milk from fluid cows that are on cooldown.[4]

The fluid blacklist

fluidBlacklist is the biggest customization in this pack. It lists fluids that are blocked from spawning as fluid cows, and it supports a modid:* wildcard to block every fluid from a mod.[4]

Blocked individually are minecraft:milk, ftb:molten_chaos, and many productivemetalworks molten fluids, including molten_diamond, molten_emerald, molten_netherite, molten_obsidian and molten_enderium. A few oritech fluids are blocked too: still_molten_biosteel, still_molten_duratium, still_molten_energite and still_molten_adamant.[4]

Whole mods blocked with a wildcard include create, createaddition, create_enchantment_industry, create_dragons_plus, create_shimmer, mekanism, mekanismgenerators, actuallyadditions, enderio, justdirethings, mob_grinding_utils, advanced_ae, sophisticatedcore, supplementaries, sauce and ftboceanmobs.[4]

Tip: If you're wondering why a fluid doesn't have a cow, check this blacklist first. If its mod or fluid id is listed, it's blocked in this pack.[4]

Unverified The sources don't confirm which fluids are not on the blacklist and therefore get a cow, or whether the blacklist differs from the mod's own default.
