What is Moo Fluids?

Moo Fluids is part of the pack, which ships version 1.3.6 of the mod as the NeoForge build for Minecraft 1.21.1. The mod was already in the pack by this version or earlier.[1]

Unverified The sources I have don't describe what Moo Fluids does, who it is aimed at, or where it fits in the pack's progression, so I can't say how to use it. Nothing I was given shows it on the ATM Star path, and no quests in the pack involve it.

How do you get started with Moo Fluids?

4 parts

Moo Fluids is all about fluid cows, and the first thing you need is a way to carry them around. That's the Fluid Cow Jar. Make it before anything else, because it's how you capture a fluid cow once you find one.[2][3]

Craft a Fluid Cow Jar

The jar is a shaped crafting recipe, and it accepts any glass block and any wooden slab, so use whatever you have on hand. Here's the exact recipe from the pack:[2]

Capture a fluid cow

The jar's tooltip tells you how to capture a cow: drop an anvil on a fluid cow. That's the capture method the mod describes, so line up your anvil drop before you go looking for one.[3]

Release the cow where you want it

When you want the cow back out, shift-click with empty hands to release it. That lets you move a cow from where you found it to wherever you'd like to set up.[3]

Check the recipes in-game

Fluid cows have a JEI tooltip that says to right-click to see fluid recipes and usage. The Alchemy Glass item has a tooltip saying to right-click it to view fluid cow breeding recipes. Use both, because the recipe viewer shows what this pack actually uses.[3]

Unverified No in-jar guidebook was found for Moo Fluids and no quests in this pack involve the mod, so the sources here do not show a guided walkthrough beyond what is on this page. Check JEI in-game for the rest. This site does hold FTB StoneBlock 4's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

How does Moo Fluids work?

5 parts

Moo Fluids is built around fluid cows, and the Fluid Cow Jar is the tool you use to work with them. Here is how capturing, the jar, milking and spawning behave in this pack.[2][3][4]

Jar capacity and milking

The jar holds up to 32,000 of fluid, set by cowJarCapacity. This pack leaves that at the mod default.[4]

A fluid cow can only be milked again after a cooldown. defaultMilkingCooldown is 3,600 ticks, which is also the mod default, so the pack hasn't changed it.[4]

milkCow is set to false in this pack. That option controls whether you can get milk from fluid cows while they are on cooldown, so you shouldn't expect that here.[4]

Where fluid cows appear

naturalSpawning is false in this pack, so fluid cows don't spawn naturally. Don't expect to stumble across them while exploring.[4]

The spawn filters still exist in the config. biomeSpawnBlacklist contains only minecraft:deep_dark. biomeSpawnWhitelist is empty, which means all biomes are allowed. dimensionSpawnRestrictions is also empty, so no cow is limited to a specific dimension.[4]

Which fluids are blocked

The pack uses fluidBlacklist to stop certain fluids from being used for fluid cows. Entries can be single fluids or a whole mod using a wildcard. Some individual entries are minecraft:milk, ftb:molten_chaos and several productivemetalworks molten fluids such as molten_diamond and molten_netherite.[4]

Whole mods are blocked too. The wildcard entries cover mekanism, enderio, create, justdirethings, actuallyadditions, supplementaries and a number of others, so fluids from those mods are on the blacklist in this pack.[4]

Tip: If a fluid you expect from one of those blocked mods never shows up as a cow, check the fluid blacklist first. The pack lists it there on purpose.[4]

Finding cow recipes in game

The mod's tooltips point you to in-game recipe lookups. The alchemy glass item says to right-click it to view fluid cow breeding recipes, and the fluid cow entry in JEI says to right-click to see fluid recipes and usage.[3]

How do you progress through Moo Fluids?

Moo Fluids has no tier ladder in this pack. The recipe data lists a single recipe that makes a Moo Fluids item: the Fluid Cow Jar. It is a shaped crafting recipe, so you make it at a crafting table like any other shaped recipe.[2]

This is the only recipe in the pack's recipe data that produces a Moo Fluids item.

The recipe asks for tag-based ingredients, so the exact in-pack recipe above shows what it accepts. Check the recipe block rather than relying on a vanilla or default version of the recipe.[2]

Which Moo Fluids config options matter?

3 parts

Moo Fluids keeps all of its settings in one file in this pack, config/moofluids-common.toml. The cooldown and jar capacity values match the mod defaults, so nothing was changed there. The fluid blacklist and the spawning switches are the options you will most likely care about.[4]

Spawning

Milking and the cow jar

  • defaultMilkingCooldown is 3,600 ticks, the same as the mod default. That is how long you wait before milking a fluid cow again.[4]
  • cowJarCapacity is 32,000, also the mod default. It is the amount of fluid the cow jar can hold.[4]
  • milkCow is false. This option controls whether milk can be obtained from fluid cows while they are on cooldown, so that is switched off in this pack.[4]

The fluid blacklist

fluidBlacklist is where the pack does the most customizing. Any fluid listed there is blocked from spawning as a fluid cow, and a modid:* entry blocks every fluid from that mod.[4]

Whole-mod wildcards in this pack cover ftboceanmobs, create_dragons_plus, create_shimmer, actuallyadditions, mekanism, enderio, justdirethings, mob_grinding_utils, create, createaddition, create_enchantment_industry, mekanismgenerators, advanced_ae, sophisticatedcore and supplementaries.[4]

Individual fluids are also blocked, including minecraft:milk, ftb:molten_chaos and immersiveengineering:potion. From industrialforegoing, fermented_ore_meat and raw_ore_meat are blocked. Many productivemetalworks molten fluids are on the list too, such as molten_diamond, molten_emerald, molten_netherite, molten_glass and molten_enderium, as well as its meat fluid. Several oritech still_ fluids are blocked as well, including still_sulfuric_acid, still_biofuel and still_molten_energite.[4]

Tip: If a fluid cow you expect does not show up, check the blacklist first. Whole mods like Mekanism and Create are blocked with wildcards, so none of their fluids are spawned as cows in this pack.[4]
