What is Moo Fluids?

Moo Fluids is a NeoForge mod for Minecraft 1.21.1, and this pack ships version 1.3.2 of it (file moofluids-1.21.1-NeoForge-1.3.2.jar).[1]

It isn't a new addition. It was already in the pack by version 1.0.0 or earlier, so it has been part of the modpack for a long time.[1]

Unverified I can't confirm what Moo Fluids does, who it is aimed at, or where it fits in the pack's progression. No mod description or in-jar guidebook was available. The mod is not on the ATM Star quest path, and no quests in this pack involve it. Check back once more details are documented.

How do you get started with Moo Fluids?

3 parts

Same as in the FTB StoneBlock 4 1.4.0 guide

Your first item in Moo Fluids is the Fluid Cow Jar. It's how you capture a fluid cow, so everything else in the mod starts with it.[2][3]

Craft the Fluid Cow Jar

The jar uses a shaped crafting recipe that comes from the mod. Here is the exact recipe from the pack:[2]

Capture and release a fluid cow

  1. To capture a fluid cow, drop an anvil on it. The jar's tooltip gives this as the way to catch one.[3]
  2. To let the cow go again, shift-click with empty hands. The jar's tooltip describes this as the way to release it.[3]

Learn the recipes in game

The mod has some built-in help. A fluid cow's JEI tooltip says to right-click it to see fluid recipes and usage. The Alchemy Glass tooltip says to right-click it to view fluid cow breeding recipes.[3]

Tip: Don't hit your cow with the anvil by accident. Capturing is meant to be done with a dropped anvil, so set it up on purpose.[3]

How does Moo Fluids work?

5 parts

Moo Fluids is built around fluid cows, and the sources I have are limited. They cover capturing cows, the Fluid Cow Jar, and the pack's config, so that is what this section covers. I have no in-jar guidebook or official docs to go deeper.[3][4][5]

Capturing and releasing fluid cows

The tooltip on the Fluid Cow Jar tells you to drop an anvil on a fluid cow to capture it. To let the cow go again, shift-click with empty hands.[3][5]

The jar holds 32,000 of fluid, set by cowJarCapacity. That is the mod's default, so the pack has not changed it.[4]

Milking

defaultMilkingCooldown is 3600 ticks, which is how long you wait before you can milk a fluid cow again. This also matches the mod default.[4]

milkCow is set to false in the pack. That option controls whether you can get milk from a fluid cow while it is on cooldown, so the pack leaves this off.[4]

Where fluid cows spawn

The pack sets naturalSpawning to false, so fluid cows do not spawn naturally. The spawn filters are still configured. biomeSpawnBlacklist contains only minecraft:deep_dark. biomeSpawnWhitelist is empty, which means all biomes are allowed. dimensionSpawnRestrictions is empty, so no cow is tied to a particular dimension.[4]

If the pack ever filled in the dimension list, the format would be 'modid:fluid->modid:dimension', for example minecraft:lava->minecraft:the_nether.[4]

Which fluids can have a cow

fluidBlacklist decides which fluids are not allowed to spawn as cows. You can block a single fluid by id, or a whole mod with modid:*. The pack blocks several single fluids, including minecraft:milk and a number of productivemetalworks molten fluids such as molten_diamond and molten_netherite.[4]

The pack also blocks every fluid from these namespaces with a wildcard: mekanism, mekanismgenerators, create, createaddition, create_enchantment_industry, create_dragons_plus, create_shimmer, enderio, actuallyadditions, justdirethings, mob_grinding_utils, supplementaries, sophisticatedcore, advanced_ae, ftboceanmobs and sauce. Some oritech fluids are blocked individually too.[4]

Tip: If a fluid you expect has no cow, check this blacklist first. Many fluids from the mods above are excluded in this pack.[4]

Looking up recipes in-game

The mod has some built-in lookups. The Alchemy Glass tooltip says to right-click it to view fluid cow breeding recipes. The JEI tooltip for a fluid cow says to right-click to see fluid recipes and usage.[3]

How do you progress through Moo Fluids?

Same as in the FTB StoneBlock 4 1.4.0 guide

Here's the honest picture for this pack: the only Moo Fluids recipe in the pack's recipe dump is the Fluid Cow Jar, and it is a shaped crafting recipe. That makes it your starting point for the mod.[2]

The only in-pack recipe in the dump that makes a Moo Fluids item.

The dump shows no other Moo Fluids recipes, so there is no recipe-based chain of tiers to walk you through. I won't invent upgrade steps that the pack doesn't show.[2]

Unverified The sources here do not show any quests involving Moo Fluids, so how the pack's quest book guides you through this mod is unverified. Check the quest book in game for any detail on that.

Which Moo Fluids config options matter?

3 parts

Moo Fluids has only a handful of options, and this pack changes a few that decide whether you'll ever see a fluid cow. Everything lives in config/moofluids-common.toml.[4]

Spawning

  • naturalSpawning is set to false in this pack, so fluid cows do not spawn naturally in the world. The file doesn't show the mod's own default for this option, so I can't tell you whether the pack changed it.[4]
  • biomeSpawnBlacklist is set to minecraft:deep_dark only, so that biome is blocked from fluid cow spawns. It also accepts biome tags such as #minecraft:is_ocean.[4]
  • biomeSpawnWhitelist is empty. An empty whitelist allows all biomes. If you add entries, only those biomes allow fluid cow spawns.[4]
  • dimensionSpawnRestrictions is empty, so no fluid is limited to a particular dimension. The format is 'modid:fluid->modid:dimension'.[4]
Tip: Because natural spawning is off in this pack, changing the biome or dimension lists will have no visible effect on its own. Those lists only matter if fluid cows can spawn at all.[4]

Milking and the cow jar

  • defaultMilkingCooldown is 3,600 ticks, the same as the mod default. This is how long you wait before you can milk a fluid cow again.[4]
  • cowJarCapacity is 32,000, also the mod default. This is how much fluid the cow jar can hold.[4]
  • milkCow is set to false. When it is on, you can get milk from fluid cows while they are on cooldown. In this pack that is off. The file doesn't show the mod default for this option.[4]

Fluid blacklist

The biggest pack customization is fluidBlacklist, which stops listed fluids from getting a fluid cow. An entry like modid:* disables every fluid from that mod. The file doesn't show the mod's default list, so I can't say which entries the pack added.[4]

This pack blacklists whole namespaces with wildcards, including create, createaddition, create_enchantment_industry, mekanism, mekanismgenerators, enderio, justdirethings, actuallyadditions, mob_grinding_utils, supplementaries, sophisticatedcore, advanced_ae, sauce, ftboceanmobs, create_dragons_plus and create_shimmer.[4]

It also blocks individual fluids. These include minecraft:milk, ftb:molten_chaos, immersiveengineering:potion, and the industrialforegoing fermented_ore_meat and raw_ore_meat.[4]

A long run of productivemetalworks fluids is blocked too, including molten glass, emerald, diamond, lapis, quartz, ancient debris, netherite and enderium, plus the meat fluid. Several oritech fluids are on the list: still_sulfuric_acid, still_biofuel, still_molten_biosteel, still_molten_duratium, still_molten_energite and still_molten_adamant.[4]

Watch out: If a fluid cow for a fluid from one of those blacklisted mods is missing, this config is the reason. Check the blacklist before assuming something is broken.[4]
