What is Refined Storage - Mekanism Integration?

1 part

Refined Storage - Mekanism Integration adds chemical storage parts to Refined Storage. The pack ships version 1.1.1, and its mod list shows it has been included since version 1.0.3 or earlier. The parts come in four sizes: 64B Chemical Storage Part, 256B Chemical Storage Part, 1024B Chemical Storage Part and 8192B Chemical Storage Part.[1][2]

Where the quest book puts it

The chemical part quests are in the "General Storage" chapter. It is chapter 7 of 31 in the book, in the "Resources & Logistics" group, and it has 146 quests. Besides Refined Storage, the chapter covers backpacks, drawers, Ender Storage and an Applied Energistics intro.[2]

The chapter's Refined Storage intro is "Welcome to Refined Storage 2" quest, which comes after "But where's the Sky Stone?" quest. It describes Refined Storage 2 as a network-based storage mod for item, fluid and gas storage.[2]

The chemical parts then form a short chain:[2]

  1. "64B Chemical Storage Part" quest comes after the Disk Drive quest. "64B Fluid Storage Part" quest comes after that same quest.[2]
  2. "256B Chemical Storage Part" quest comes after the 64B quest.[2]
  3. "1024B Chemical Storage Part" quest comes after the 256B quest.[2]
  4. "8192B Chemical Storage Part" quest comes after the 1024B quest, so it is the end of the chain.[2]

The Disk Drive quest is one of 120 quests in this chapter whose text is not included here, so check the quest book for it. The quests shown here do not tie these parts to the ATM Star path.[2]

How do you get started with Refined Storage - Mekanism Integration?

5 parts

This mod adds Chemical Storage Disks and Chemical Storage Blocks to your Refined Storage 2 network, in four sizes: 64B, 256B, 1024B and 8192B. The mod's own goal for you is simple: craft a Chemical Storage Disk and put it in your Disk Drive. Here is the order I'd go in.[2][3]

Before you start

You need a working Refined Storage 2 setup first. The quest book's welcome quest for Refined Storage 2 says you need Sky Steel Ingots before you can craft your first Machine Core. That quest sits right after the Sky Stone quest in the "General Storage" chapter (group "Resources & Logistics"). The chemical storage quests are in that same chapter.[2]

Step 1: the 64B part

Everything starts with the 64B Chemical Storage Part. In the quest book it comes right after the Disk Drive quest, and it is the first of four part quests. The pack changed this recipe, so use the one below and not what you remember from the mod's defaults.[2][4]

Step 2: turn it into a disk

Next, make the 64B Chemical Storage Disk. The pack changed the standard disk recipe too.[4]

If you already have a Storage Housing, there is also a shapeless recipe that combines the housing with the part. That one is the mod's own recipe, not a pack change.[4]

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: refinedstorage_mekanism_integration:64b_chemical_storage_disk_from_storage_housing

Now put the disk in your Disk Drive. That is exactly what the mod's "storing chemicals" advancement asks for.[3]

Step 3: climb the tiers

The part quests run in a chain: 64B, then 256B, then 1024B, then 8192B. Start with the 256B Chemical Storage Part. After that come the 1024B Chemical Storage Part and the 8192B Chemical Storage Part.[2]

Tip: A chemical disk can be upgraded to a higher tier by combining it with a Chemical Storage Part. An empty disk gives its part back when you use it while holding it, so you don't lose your investment if you change your mind.[3]

Step 4: storage blocks

If you'd rather have a block than a disk, each tier has one. The 64B Chemical Storage Block is the first. The pack changed the block recipes as well, and each one uses the matching part.[4]

The blocks use energy. In this pack the values are 2 for the 64B block (chemicalStorageBlock.64bEnergyUsage), 4 for the 256B block (chemicalStorageBlock.256bEnergyUsage), 6 for the 1024B block (chemicalStorageBlock.1024bEnergyUsage) and 8 for the 8192B block (chemicalStorageBlock.8192bEnergyUsage). These are the same as the mod defaults.[3][5]

How does Refined Storage - Mekanism Integration work?

4 parts

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.1.1 guide

This mod adds chemical storage to Refined Storage. You get Chemical Storage Disks and Chemical Storage Blocks in these tiers: 64B, 256B, 1024B and 8192B. There are also Creative versions of both the disk and the block. This section covers how they work, how you upgrade them and what they cost to run.[6]

Disks and blocks

The basic loop is simple. Craft a Chemical Storage Disk, then put it in your Disk Drive. The mod's own advancement for this is called Storing Chemicals.[6]

Both the disks and the blocks show a tooltip saying how many buckets they store. The Creative Chemical Storage Disk and the Creative Chemical Storage Block both store an infinite amount.[6]

Returning and upgrading

  • An empty disk gives you its Chemical Storage Part back when you use it while holding it.[6]
  • An empty block returns the Chemical Storage Part and the Machine Casing when you use it while holding it.[6][7]
  • Disks and blocks can both be upgraded to a higher tier by combining them with a Chemical Storage Part.[6]
Watch out: The tooltips only promise a refund for an empty disk or block. Empty it before you try to get the part back.[6]

Crafting the tiers

Everything starts with the storage part. The 64B Chemical Storage Part is the entry point. The 256B and 1024B part recipes each take the part of the tier below as an ingredient.[7]

Once you have a part, you turn it into a disk or a block. Here is the 64B tier as the example. The 256B, 1024B and 8192B tiers each have matching disk and block recipes.[7]

Each disk also has a shapeless recipe that combines a part with a Storage Housing from Refined Storage. This is handy if you already have housings lying around.[7]

Energy use

Each block type has its own energy usage option in the common config. The pack's values are listed below. They are the same as the mod defaults, so the pack has not changed them. Each option accepts a value from 0 up to 9,223,372,036,854,775,807.[8]

Tip: Energy usage goes up with each tier. A bigger block costs more to run, so factor that into your network's power budget.[8]

Unverified The sources don't give the exact bucket capacity of each tier, because the tooltip fills in the number at runtime. They also don't give the unit for the energy values, the recipe for the 8192B Chemical Storage Part, or how the blocks connect to a network. Check these in-game before relying on them.

How do you progress through Refined Storage - Mekanism Integration?

3 parts

This mod adds chemical storage to Refined Storage 2 in four tiers: 64B, 256B, 1024B and 8192B. Each tier comes as a part (64B Chemical Storage Part, 256B Chemical Storage Part, 1024B Chemical Storage Part, 8192B Chemical Storage Part), a disk and a block.[2][4]

Where it sits in the quest book

The chemical storage quests are in the General Storage chapter (group Resources & Logistics, chapter 7 of 31 in the book). The Refined Storage 2 line starts with "Welcome to Refined Storage 2" quest, which comes after "But where's the Sky Stone?" quest. From there you go to "Controller" quest, then "Disk Drive" quest. The chemical part quests hang off the Disk Drive quest.[2]

The text of the welcome quest says you need Sky Steel Ingots before crafting your first Machine Core, and it points you to the attached quest to see how to get them. The quest's tasks are these items:[2]

The chemical tier chain

  1. "64B Chemical Storage Part" quest asks for the 64B part and comes after the Disk Drive quest.[2]
  2. "256B Chemical Storage Part" quest asks for the 256B part and comes after the 64B quest.[2]
  3. "1024B Chemical Storage Part" quest asks for the 1024B part and comes after the 256B quest.[2]
  4. "8192B Chemical Storage Part" quest asks for the 8192B part and comes after the 1024B quest.[2]

The sources show no description text for these four quests, they just ask you to craft the part. The Disk Drive quest also has other part quests branching off it, such as "64B Fluid Storage Part" quest for fluids and "1k Storage Part" quest for items.[2]

Crafting each tier

The pack changed the part, disk and block recipes for all four chemical tiers. The recipes that turn a part and a Storage Housing into a disk are the mod's own, unchanged. Each part from 256B up is crafted from the part of the tier below it, so you climb the tiers one at a time. Here are the four parts in order.[2][4]

How does Refined Storage - Mekanism Integration work with other mods?

3 parts

This mod is the bridge between Refined Storage and Mekanism, so its recipes pull in items from both, plus a material from the pack's own FTB Materials items. The pack has changed the recipes for every part, block and disk tier, so what you craft here is the pack's version, not the mod default.[4]

Mekanism and Refined Storage in the part chain

Every chemical storage part, block and disk recipe in the pack uses Osmium Ingot. The 64B part also needs Silicon and any glass block.[4]

After that, each step up the part chain pairs a tier of Mekanism alloy with a tier of Refined Storage processor, on top of the previous part:[4]

In the quest book

The four parts have their own quests in the General Storage chapter, which sits in the Resources & Logistics group as chapter 7 of 31. The chain starts after the Disk Drive quest with "64B Chemical Storage Part" quest, then continues with "256B Chemical Storage Part" quest, "1024B Chemical Storage Part" quest and finally "8192B Chemical Storage Part" quest.[2]

That chapter has 146 quests in total, and the rest are told in the quest book itself.[2]

Which FTB Skies 2: Aero quests use Refined Storage - Mekanism Integration?

2 parts

This mod only shows up in one chapter of the quest book: "General Storage", in the group "Resources & Logistics" (chapter 7 of 31). It is a big chapter with 146 quests, covering backpacks, drawers, Applied Energistics and Refined Storage 2. This mod's quests are a small chain near the Refined Storage 2 part.[2]

Getting to the chemical storage parts

The chain hangs off the Refined Storage 2 questline. "But where's the Sky Stone?" quest comes first, and "Welcome to Refined Storage 2" quest follows it. After that comes "Controller" quest, then "Disk Drive" quest. The Disk Drive quest is the one that unlocks this mod's quests.[2]

The chemical storage chain

Each quest asks you to hand in one storage part, and each unlocks the next tier. They go in this order:[2]

  1. "64B Chemical Storage Part" quest asks for the 64B Chemical Storage Part. It comes after the Disk Drive quest.[2]
  2. "256B Chemical Storage Part" quest asks for the 256B Chemical Storage Part.[2]
  3. "1024B Chemical Storage Part" quest asks for the 1024B Chemical Storage Part.[2]
  4. "8192B Chemical Storage Part" quest asks for the 8192B Chemical Storage Part. It is the last quest in the chain.[2]

These four quests have no description text in the book, just the item to hand in. Nothing else in the chapter after them builds on this chain, so once you reach the 8192B part you are done with this mod's quests.[2]

The Disk Drive quest does explain how storage tiers work in general: you can upgrade a storage disk directly into the next tier by crafting the upgraded part together with the existing disk. You get your old disk back and keep everything stored in it.[2]

The "General Storage" chapter has 13 more quests whose text I could not include here. If you want to know what they say, check them in the quest book.[2]

Which Refined Storage - Mekanism Integration config options matter?

1 part

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.1.1 guide

This mod has a small config file, and everything in it is about how much energy the chemical storage blocks use. The settings live in config/refinedstorage_mekanism_integration-common.toml. You only need one table to remember them, and the pack leaves every value at the mod default.[8]

Chemical storage block energy usage

There is one option per storage block tier, plus one for the creative block. Energy usage goes up with the tier:[8]

Each of these options accepts any value from 0 up to 9,223,372,036,854,775,807. That means you can set a block's usage to 0 if you ever want it to stop drawing energy.[8]

Tip: Because the pack hasn't changed any of these values, anything you read about this mod's default energy usage applies here too. If you edit one, you're changing the pack's behavior, not restoring a default.[8]

Unverified The config file doesn't say which energy unit these numbers use or how often the energy is drawn, so check in game before you plan your power setup around them.
