What is Iron's Gems 'n Jewelry?

2 parts

Iron's Gems 'n Jewelry is a modular jewelcrafting mod. You build pieces of jewelry from patterns and materials, and the result gives you bonuses such as extra attributes. The mod advertises more than 10,000 jewelry combinations, 7 obtainable gemstone items and a new villager profession. The pack ships version 1.21.1-1.5.3.[1][2]

How it works

Everything is crafted at the Jewelcrafting Station. Each pattern gives a type of bonus. The material you use decides the specific bonus, and the quality of that material decides how strong it is. The more precious the gem, the more powerful the piece.[1]

Some patterns are learned by default. Others have to be unlocked by looting or trading for an Artisan Scroll, which is an Artisan Scroll.[1]

Villagers can work at a Jewelcrafting Station too. Jewelers buy and sell materials, sell finished jewelry, and sell the secrets of more advanced patterns. The mod also needs Iron's Lib, Atlas API and Curios API.[1]

In this pack's quests

The pack's quest book gives the mod its own chapter, named "irons_gems_and_jewelery". It opens with a quest to obtain the Jewelcrafting Station (a quest in "?"), which has no earlier quest in the chapter.[3]

Unverified The sources here do not show whether the ATM Star path uses this mod, and there is no in-jar guidebook for it. The quests in this chapter have no titles in the pack files, so check the quest book in-game for the full descriptions.

How do you get started with Iron's Gems 'n Jewelry?

3 parts

Iron's Gems 'n Jewelry is all about crafting modular jewelry from patterns and materials. Everything starts at one block, so that's the first thing you make.[1]

Step 1: Build a Jewelcrafting Station

Jewelry is crafted from a pattern at the Jewelcrafting Station, so nothing else works until you have one. The pack's quest book also asks you to get it, in a quest in "?".[1][3]

Step 2: Get your first gems

Gems are your materials. The material decides which bonus a piece gives, and the quality of the material decides how strong that bonus is. The pack's quest chapter has a quest for each of these gems: Garnet (a quest in "?"), Peridot (a quest in "?"), Moonstone (a quest in "?"), Topaz (a quest in "?") and Onyx (a quest in "?").[1][3]

The pack adds its own way to get Topaz: you can turn a Topaz GeOre Shard into Topaz with either a smelting recipe or a blasting recipe.[4]

Step 3: Collect patterns with Artisan Scrolls

Some patterns are known from the start. Others have to be unlocked with an Artisan Scroll, which you get by looting or by trading. The pack's quest chapter has many quests that ask for an Artisan Scroll, for example a quest in "?" and a quest in "?". Treat them as a checklist for the patterns you want to collect.[1][3]

Tip: The mod has a tooltip that tells you when a pattern is already learned, so you can check before you spend a scroll.[5]

Villagers can help too. Jewelers work at a Jewelcrafting Station, buy and sell materials, sell finished jewelry and sell more advanced patterns.[1]

Same as in the All the Mods 10 5.4 guide

Everything in this mod revolves around one block: the Jewelcrafting Station. There are no generators, pipes or multiblocks to worry about. You craft jewelry at the station from a pattern, and the pattern plus the materials you feed it decide what you get.[1]

Patterns: the blueprint for your jewelry

Every piece of jewelry starts from a pattern. You already know some patterns by default. Others you have to unlock with Artisan Scrolls, which you get from loot or by trading. If you try to learn a pattern you already have, the game tells you it's already learned, so you won't waste a scroll by accident.[1][6]

Each pattern gives a type of bonus, bonus Attributes for example. The pattern sets which kind of bonus the piece can have, and your materials fill in the details.[1]

Materials and quality

The system is modular, and this is where it gets fun. The materials you put into a pattern decide the specific bonus, and their quality decides how strong it is. Mixing patterns and materials is how the mod reaches more than 10,000 jewelry combinations, and it adds 7 new gemstone items to hunt for. More precious gems give you a more powerful piece.[1]

The mod's tooltips help you plan. They include an Applicable Materials list and a Bonuses when Crafted section, so you can see your options before you commit your rare gems.[6]

Kinds of bonuses

Besides attribute boosts, the mod's text lists several other bonus types that jewelry can carry:[1][6]

  • Effect immunity: the piece makes you immune to a specific effect.[6]
  • Effect when hit: when something hits you, you gain an effect for a set number of seconds.[6]
  • On projectile hit: something triggers when your projectiles land a hit.[6]
  • Piglin neutrality: Piglins stay neutral toward you.[6]
  • Trade discount: you get a discount on items when trading.[6]
Tip: Because materials decide the bonus, the same pattern can produce very different pieces. Before you spend a valuable gem, check its tooltip to see which bonus it would give.[1][6]

The Jeweler villager

The Jewelcrafting Station also works as a workstation for a new villager profession, the Jeweler. Jewelers buy and sell materials, sell finished jewelry, and sell advanced patterns. That makes them your main alternative to looting for Artisan Scrolls.[1]

Requirements and datapacks

The mod needs Iron's Lib, Atlas API and Curios API to run, and it is heavily data-driven. Its registries can be extended through datapacks and addons, so pack makers can add new content without touching the code.[1]

Unverified The sources don't cover the exact bonus values, the full list of patterns and gemstones, how Artisan Scrolls drop, or whether the pack changed any of these through datapacks. No sources describe automation or machine interaction for the Jewelcrafting Station either.

How do you progress through Iron's Gems 'n Jewelry?

4 parts

The pack's quest chapter for this mod is short and branches out from a few starting points. It starts with the Jewelcrafting Station, then moves on to gem quests and Artisan Scroll quests. Here is what the quests and recipes show.[3]

Step 1: the Jewelcrafting Station

Everything starts at the Jewelcrafting Station. Its quest, a quest in "?", asks you to get one and has no earlier quest listed before it. The station uses the mod's own recipe.[3][4]

Crafting Shaped

Crafting Shaped

This is the mod's own recipe, not changed by the pack.

Step 2: gems

The chapter has one quest for each gem. They all unlock from the same earlier quest, so you can do them in any order you like.[3]

Topaz is changed in this pack

The pack adds its own ways to make Topaz. You can smelt a Topaz GeOre Shard in a furnace, or blast it in a blast furnace. Both recipes are pack additions, so don't expect them in a plain install of the mod.[4]

Blasting

Step 3: Artisan Scrolls

The rest of the chapter is a group of quests that each ask for an Artisan Scroll. They all unlock from one shared earlier quest. As with the gems, there is no enforced order between them.[3]

Tip: Every quest in this chapter is untitled, and all of the scroll quests list the same item as their task, so the quest data alone doesn't tell them apart. Open each quest in-game to see what it shows.[3]

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

The links between this mod and the rest of the pack all revolve around one gem: Topaz. The pack adds recipes that connect it to GeOre and to Productive Bees.[7]

Topaz from GeOre shards

If you're growing GeOre crystals, the Topaz GeOre Shard can be turned into a real Topaz by cooking it. The pack adds both a smelting recipe and a blasting recipe for this, and both give the same result.[7]

Blasting

This gives you a way to get Topaz for jewelcrafting from another mod's resource line.[7]

Topaz into Amber with Productive Bees

The connection also runs the other way. The pack adds a Productive Bees bee conversion recipe that takes Topaz and gives Amber.[7]

Tip: Topaz can go to jewelry or to the Amber conversion, so decide which one you need before you cook a big batch of shards.[7]

Quests

The quest chapter for this mod only asks for the mod's own items, such as the Jewelcrafting Station, Garnet, Peridot, Moonstone, Onyx and Topaz. None of its quests mix in items from other mods, so the cross-mod links are the recipes above.[8]

Which FTB Skies 2 quests use Iron's Gems 'n Jewelry?

3 parts

Everything quest-related for this mod sits in one chapter, "irons_gems_and_jewelery". Every quest in it uses an item task, and all of them are untitled, so I refer to them by ID.[3]

The Jewelcrafting Station

Quest a quest in "?" is the only quest in the chapter with no prerequisite listed. It asks for the Jewelcrafting Station, so start here.[3]

The gems

These quests each ask for a single gem. They all unlock after the same earlier quest, so they share a prerequisite rather than following one another.[3]

The Artisan Scrolls

The rest of the chapter is a group of quests that each ask you to submit an Artisan Scroll (Artisan Scroll). They all unlock after one shared earlier quest, just like the gem quests share theirs.[3]

Which Iron's Gems 'n Jewelry config options matter?

1 part

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

Good news: Iron's Gems 'n Jewelry only has two server-side options worth knowing about in this pack, and both sit at the mod's defaults. The pack hasn't changed either one, so you get the standard behavior from the mod.[9]

Server config: Worldgen

  • Worldgen.enableDynamicJewelryLoot is set to true, which matches the default. When it's on, jewelry items are inserted dynamically into loot tables based on what those tables already contain. For example, loot tables with gems and equipment can automatically generate jewelry items.[9]
  • Worldgen.jewelerHouseWeight is set to 2, which also matches the default. This is the weight of the Jeweler's House in village generation.[9]
Tip: If you want more jewelry from exploring, leave the dynamic loot option on, which is how this pack ships it. Jewelry can then turn up in loot tables that contain gems and equipment.[9]

Unverified How the Jeweler's House weight of 2 compares with other village buildings, and how often you'll actually find one in a village, isn't confirmed by the available sources.
