What is Iron's Gems 'n Jewelry?

3 parts

Iron's Gems 'n Jewelry is all about modular jewelcrafting. You build pieces of jewelry from a variety of patterns and materials, and the mod advertises more than 10,000 modular jewelry combinations. It also adds 7 new obtainable gemstone items.[1]

How crafting works

You craft jewelry from a pattern at the Jewelcrafting Station block. Some patterns you know from the start, while others have to be unlocked by looting or trading for Artisan Scrolls.[1]

Each pattern gives a type of bonus, such as bonus attributes. The materials you use decide the specific bonus, and the quality of those materials decides how strong it is. The more precious the gems, the more powerful the piece.[1]

Villager jewelers

The mod adds a new villager profession, the jeweler, who works at a Jewelcrafting Station. Jewelers buy and sell materials, sell finished pieces of jewelry, and sell the secrets of more advanced patterns.[1]

In this pack

The pack includes version 1.21.1-2.0.2 of the mod, and it has been part of the pack since version 2.4 or earlier. The mod needs Iron's Lib, Atlas API and Curios API to run.[1][2]

The mod is also highly data-driven, so its content can be expanded through datapacks and addons.[1]

How do you get started with Iron's Gems 'n Jewelry?

4 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Iron's Gems 'n Jewelry is all about modular jewelry: you pick a pattern, pick materials, and build a piece at the Jewelcrafting Station block. Getting started is quick, so here is the order I'd go in.[1]

Step one: make the Jewelcrafting Station

Everything starts with the Jewelcrafting Station. Jewelry items are crafted from a pattern at this block, so build it before anything else. Here is the in-pack recipe:[1][3]

Crafting Shaped

Step two: craft the guide book

Next, make Jewelcrafting and You. The mod describes it as a guide to Gems 'n Jewelry, and its pattern screen has a hint to select a part for more info, so you can look up what each part does while you learn the system.[3][4]

Crafting Shapeless

There is also a second recipe that combines a copy of the guide with a book to give you another guide. It's handy if you want a spare.[3]

Recipe id: irons_jewelry:jewelcrafting_guide_duplicate

Then craft with the patterns you already know

Some patterns are learned by default, so you can craft those right away at the station. Others need to be unlocked first by looting or trading for Artisan Scrolls.[1][4]

Pay attention to the primary part of each piece. It determines the quality of the whole piece of jewelry, and the potency of all bonuses scales with the material you use there. The pattern gives the type of bonus, and the materials decide the specific bonus and how strong it is. So save your best gems for the primary part.[1][4]

Then hunt for more patterns

Once you've used up the starter patterns, go exploring. Several patterns, such as the bane ring and the stalwart ring, can be found or traded for throughout the world. A few have more specific sources:[4]

  • The haggler ring pattern can be traded for from Jewelers.[4]
  • The piglin signet ring pattern can be found in Nether Fortresses and Bastions.[4]
Tip: Villagers will take up work at a Jewelcrafting Station as Jewelers. They buy and sell materials, sell finished jewelry, and sell the secrets of more advanced patterns.[1]

How does Iron's Gems 'n Jewelry work?

5 parts

Everything in this mod runs through one block: the Jewelcrafting Station. You craft modular jewelry there from a pattern plus materials, and the rest of the mod is about finding patterns and good materials.[1][4]

Crafting Shaped

This is the station recipe as it is in this pack.

Patterns and Artisan Scrolls

Every piece of jewelry starts from a pattern. Some patterns you know from the start, and you can craft them right away at the station. Others stay locked until you find or trade for an Artisan Scroll (the Artisan Scroll). If you already know a pattern, the scroll tells you it is already learned.[1][4][6][7]

The pattern descriptions tell you where each one comes from. The haggler ring is traded for from Jewelers, and the piglin signet ring turns up in Nether Fortresses and Bastions. Most of the others, like the bane ring, barbed band, stalwart ring and tearstone ring, can be found or traded for throughout the world.[4]

Materials, quality and bonuses

The pattern decides the type of bonus, such as bonus attributes. The materials you put in decide the specific bonus, and their quality decides how strong it is. The mod's gems include Ruby, plus Sapphire, Topaz and Onyx.[1][4][8]

Each pattern has a primary part. That part sets the quality of the whole piece, and when a material is used as the primary part, the potency of all the bonuses is scaled by that material's quality value. Pick your best material for that slot.[4]

The mod's text lists several bonus types you can see on finished jewelry. Some grant immunity to an effect, some give you an effect for a number of seconds when you are hit, and some trigger an effect on a projectile hit. Another makes Piglins neutral, and another discounts items when trading. Tooltips show the applicable materials and the bonuses you get when crafted, and the guide screen lets you select a part for more info.[4]

Unverified Which materials count as metals or gems for each pattern is set in the mod's material tag data files, and the sources here do not show their contents.

The Jewelcrafting guide

The Jewelcrafting and You (Jewelcrafting and You) is the guide to gems and jewelry. In this pack you can craft it, and you can copy an existing one with a second recipe.[4][5]

This second recipe duplicates a guide you already have.

Jewelers and trading

Villagers get busy at a Jewelcrafting Station too. Jewelers buy and sell materials, sell finished jewelry, and sell the secrets of more advanced patterns. Their pattern trades come from two loot tables, one for basic patterns and one for high quality ones.[1][7][9]

Village jeweler chests can hold Artisan Scrolls, plus ready-made Ring and Necklace items, alongside emeralds, bread, gold ingots and gems.[6]

Finding patterns and jewelry in loot

The mod also adds loot modifiers that can drop scrolls and gems. Each pattern modifier has its own chance of adding a scroll roll: 0.125 for the generic one, 0.5 for the library one, 0.08 for the nether one and 0.25 for the nether treasure one. Nether-type scrolls are also a Piglin barter result.[10][11][12][13][14]

A separate injection can add a generated ring or necklace to loot, with rings weighted 3 and necklaces weighted 1. A gem modifier has a chance of 0.35 of adding a stack of lootable gems.[15][16]

The mod is heavily data-driven, so pack makers and addons can expand patterns and materials through datapacks.[1]

How do you progress through Iron's Gems 'n Jewelry?

2 parts

Here's what the pack data actually confirms about getting started with jewelry. Everything begins at the Jewelcrafting Station, and the pack's recipe for it is below.[5]

Crafting Shaped

The station drops itself when you break it, so you can pick it up and move it without losing it.[17]

The guide book

The Jewelcrafting and You has its own crafting recipe in the pack, so you can make one yourself.[5]

Crafting Shapeless

  • Book
  • any copper ingot

There's also a duplicate recipe, which makes another copy of the guide from an existing one.[5]

Finding patterns and gems

Jewelry designs come from pattern recipe items, and the mod's loot tables hand them out in a few places. The village jeweler chest can hold a pattern recipe, a ring, or a necklace, along with emeralds, bread, gold ingots and lootable gems.[6]

The mod also adds loot to other chests. The generic pattern loot adds a pattern recipe with a 0.125 chance. Inside that roll, a generic pattern has a weight of 3 and a high quality pattern has a weight of 1, so the better designs are the rarer drops.[10]

Gems turn up the same way. The generic gem loot adds a roll from the lootable gems with a 0.35 chance.[16]

Metals and gems are separate jewelry materials. The mod's material tags include gold and emerald.[18][19]

Unverified The full tier breakdown (which patterns, metals and gems make up each jewelry tier, and what each tier does) could not be confirmed from the pack data available, so it is not listed here.
