What is Baubley Heart Canisters?

3 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Baubley Heart Canisters brings back the old Tinkers' Construct heart canisters, reimagined as Curios-slot items. The pack includes version 1.21.1-1.4.1 of the mod, and it has been in the pack since 2.25 or earlier.[1][2]

What it does

You collect heart canisters in four tiers. Red hearts drop from hostile mobs, yellow hearts from boss mobs such as the Wither, green hearts from the Ender Dragon, and blue hearts from Wardens. Each tier can also be crafted from the previous tiers, so check JEI for the exact recipes.[1]

The Heart Amulet holds all of your heart canisters in a single slot. The Soul Heart Amulet works the same way but also takes Soul Heart Canisters. These act like Totems of Undying: they heal you back to max health, then revert to Blue Heart Canisters once used.[1]

Extras worth knowing

  • Vitality Blade: a sword that gains 2 attack damage for each Heart Canister. It is made with the Soul Heart Crystal, which is also used for Soul Amulets.[1]
  • Relic Apple: a crafting item you can also eat, giving Haste II, Strength II and Resistance II for one minute.[1]
  • Wither Bone: a crafting item that drops from Wither Skeletons.[1]
  • Wardens now drop Echo Shards, which makes them renewable.[1]

Who it's for

This mod is for anyone who wants more max health, and a bigger damage boost from the Vitality Blade, as a reward for hunting mobs and bosses. It requires Curios to run. The amulet's slot type, the drops and the starting health are all configurable.[1]

Tip: The project page says heart drops are configurable. It doesn't say whether this pack changed any of them, so check the in-game config and JEI for what you actually get here.[1]

Unverified We found no quests in this pack involving the mod, and it isn't on the ATM Star path. Whether the pack changes any of its drops, recipes or config values is unconfirmed.

How do you get started with Baubley Heart Canisters?

7 parts

Baubley Heart Canisters brings back the old heart canister idea as wearable items, and it needs Curios to work. This is the quickest route from your first heart to a working setup.[1]

First, get some hearts

Miniature Red Heart drops from hostile mobs, so it's the one you'll find first. The other tiers come from tougher targets: Miniature Yellow Heart from boss mobs, Miniature Green Heart from the Ender Dragon and Miniature Blue Heart from the Warden. In this pack's drop file, the red entry for hostile mobs is set to 0.05, and the yellow boss, green dragon and blue Warden entries are set to 1.[1][3][4][5]

Next, craft a Canister

The Canister is the base item for your first heart canister, so make it early.[4]

Then, a Wither Bone and a Relic Apple

The Red Heart Canister recipe also uses a Relic Apple and a wither bone. Wither Bone drops from Wither Skeletons. This pack lowers General.boneDropRate to 0.15 (the mod default is 0.18), so expect fewer bones than the mod's own defaults would give you.[1][4][6]

Make your Red Heart Canister

With those pieces ready, craft your first Red Heart Canister. General.heartStackSize is 10 in this pack, which is the maximum stack size for heart canisters and also the maximum number of full hearts you can get per canister type.[4][6]

Optional: a Red Health Patch

If you want emergency healing while you hunt for more hearts, the Red Health Patch is made from a Miniature Red Heart. In this pack it restores 2 health (one full heart) with a 5 second cooldown, set by [[config:config/bhc-startup.toml#Heart Patches.redPatchHealAmount]] and [[config:config/bhc-startup.toml#Heart Patches.redPatchCooldown]]. Both match the mod defaults.[4][6]

Where to go next

The next tier up is the Yellow Heart Canister, which is crafted using your Red Heart Canister.[4]

Tip: You don't need to touch starting health. In this pack Server.allowStartingHealthTweaks is false, and Server.startingHealth is 20.[7]

How does Baubley Heart Canisters work?

9 parts

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

Good news: there are no machines, multiblocks, power or fluids to wire up here. Baubley Heart Canisters is a wearable mod. Everything revolves around heart items that you collect, craft into canisters and carry in a Curios slot. The project page lists Curios as required for this mod.[1]

Where hearts come from

Each heart colour has its own source. Red hearts drop from hostile mobs, yellow hearts from boss mobs such as the Wither, green hearts from the Ender Dragon, and blue hearts from the Warden. Each tier can also be crafted using the previous tiers.[1]

This pack's drop file sets these entries:[8]

Wither Bone drops from Wither Skeletons. The pack lowers the drop rate to 0.15 (the mod default is 0.18) in General.boneDropRate. The Warden also drops Echo Shards in this mod, which makes them renewable, and that rate is 0.5 in General.echoShardDropRate, the same as the mod default.[1][9]

Another way to get Wither Bones if the drops are slow.

There is also a shortcut in the pack's own trade script: one of the entries in its after_diamond trade list swaps a Miniature Red Heart for a Blue Heart Canister.[11]

Melted hearts

Miniature hearts can be smelted into their melted versions, and melted hearts convert between tiers. The Melted Blue Heart, Melted Green Heart, Melted Yellow Heart and Melted Red Heart all take part in these conversions. A melted heart turns back into a miniature heart in a crafting recipe. The recipes below show the exact in-pack versions.[10]

Canister tiers

Canisters start from the plain Canister, which becomes a Red Heart Canister. From there each tier is built from the one below it: yellow from red, green from yellow, and blue from green.[10]

General.heartStackSize is the maximum stack size for heart canisters, and also the maximum number of full hearts you can get per container type. It is 10 in this pack, the same as the mod default.[9]

Amulets and the Soul Heart

The Heart Amulet holds all your heart canisters in a single slot. Right click it to open it. The Curio type it uses can be changed in game or in the config file.[1][5]

The Soul Amulet works like the Heart Amulet but can also hold a Soul Heart Canister. That canister acts like a Totem of Undying: it heals you back to max health, and once used it reverts to a Blue Heart Canister. You will see the message "Soul Heart Has Been Consumed!" when that happens. In this pack General.soulHeartReturnChance is 1, the mod default, so you get the Blue Heart Canister back every time.[1][5][9]

Health patches

Health patches heal you on use and then go on cooldown. Cooldowns are in seconds, and heal amounts are in half-hearts, so 2 is one full heart. Every value below matches the mod default, so the pack has not changed them.[9]

  • Red Health Patch: heals 2 ([[config:config/bhc-startup.toml#Heart Patches.redPatchHealAmount]]), cooldown 5 seconds ([[config:config/bhc-startup.toml#Heart Patches.redPatchCooldown]]).[9][10]
  • Yellow Health Patch: heals 6 ([[config:config/bhc-startup.toml#Heart Patches.yellowPatchHealAmount]]), cooldown 10 seconds ([[config:config/bhc-startup.toml#Heart Patches.yellowPatchCooldown]]).[9]
  • Green Health Patch: heals 10 ([[config:config/bhc-startup.toml#Heart Patches.greenPatchHealAmount]]), cooldown 20 seconds ([[config:config/bhc-startup.toml#Heart Patches.greenPatchCooldown]]).[9][10]
  • Blue Health Patch: heals 20 ([[config:config/bhc-startup.toml#Heart Patches.bluePatchHealAmount]]), cooldown 30 seconds ([[config:config/bhc-startup.toml#Heart Patches.bluePatchCooldown]]).[9][10]

Relic Apple

The Relic Apple is a crafting item you can also eat. Eating it gives Haste II, Strength II and Resistance II for one minute. It is also an ingredient in the Red Heart Canister recipe.[1][10]

Starting health

Server.startingHealth is set to 20 in this pack.[12]

However, Server.allowStartingHealthTweaks is false, so starting health tweaks are switched off.[12]

Heartpulse belts

The belts are upgraded through smithing: the Yellow Heartpulse Belt becomes the Green Heartpulse Belt, which then becomes the Blue Heartpulse Belt.[10]

How do you progress through Baubley Heart Canisters?

6 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

The recipes set the order here. The path runs through the canister tiers in this order: Red Heart Canister, Yellow Heart Canister, Green Heart Canister, Blue Heart Canister and finally Soul Heart Canister. Each tier is built from the canister before it, so you can't skip ahead.[13]

Unverified The pack's quest book has no quests for this mod, so there is no quest-guided order. The path below follows the in-pack recipes only.

Red tier

Everything starts with the basic Canister. The Red tier also needs a Relic Apple and wither bones, and the pack has its own recipe for the Wither Bone. The recipe blocks below show exactly what goes into each one.[13]

Miniature and melted hearts

Each higher tier also needs a Miniature Heart of its own colour. You make one by combining a Melted Heart of that colour with another heart, and you get a Melted Heart by smelting a Miniature Heart of the same colour. Melted Hearts also convert between neighbouring colours: red and yellow convert both ways, yellow and green convert both ways, and green and blue convert both ways.[13]

Which Baubley Heart Canisters config options matter?

5 parts

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

Good news: this pack leaves almost all of Baubley Heart Canisters at its mod defaults. There is exactly one startup value the pack changed, so that is the first thing to know. Everything else below is useful to understand how your heart progression behaves.[9]

The one value the pack changed

General.boneDropRate is set to 0.15 here, down from the mod default of 0.18. It controls how often Wither Skeletons drop wither bones, which are a crafting item. The valid range is 0.0 to 1.0, so this is a small nerf, and bones are a little slower to farm than in the base mod.[1][9]

General settings left at default

Heart patches

All the heart patch values match the mod defaults. Cooldowns are in seconds, and heal amounts are in half-hearts, so a heal amount of 2 is one full heart.[9]

  • Red patch: heals 2 ([[config:config/bhc-startup.toml#Heart Patches.redPatchHealAmount]]) with a cooldown of 5 ([[config:config/bhc-startup.toml#Heart Patches.redPatchCooldown]]).[9]
  • Yellow patch: heals 6 ([[config:config/bhc-startup.toml#Heart Patches.yellowPatchHealAmount]]) with a cooldown of 10 ([[config:config/bhc-startup.toml#Heart Patches.yellowPatchCooldown]]).[9]
  • Green patch: heals 10 ([[config:config/bhc-startup.toml#Heart Patches.greenPatchHealAmount]]) with a cooldown of 20 ([[config:config/bhc-startup.toml#Heart Patches.greenPatchCooldown]]).[9]
  • Blue patch: heals 20 ([[config:config/bhc-startup.toml#Heart Patches.bluePatchHealAmount]]) with a cooldown of 30 ([[config:config/bhc-startup.toml#Heart Patches.bluePatchCooldown]]).[9]

Starting health

Server.allowStartingHealthTweaks is false in this pack, and Server.startingHealth is 20, which the config describes as the default. The mod can change starting health through its config, but with the tweaks switch off you start on the standard amount.[1][12]

Tip: If you ever edit starting health yourself, remember that the mod resets any value of 0 or below back to its default settings.[1]

Heart drop entries

The drop table in drops.json has one entry per heart tier. Blue hearts are tied to heartEntries.blue.minecraft:warden, green to heartEntries.green.dragon, yellow to heartEntries.yellow.boss, and red to heartEntries.red.hostile. The pack sets the blue, green and yellow entries to 1, and the red entry for hostile mobs to 0.05.[1][8]

Unverified The sources do not explain what the numbers in drops.json mean (for example, whether 0.05 is a drop chance), and they do not say whether the pack changed these entries from the mod defaults. Treat the 0.05 for hostile mobs as the pack's value, not as a confirmed percentage.

What changed in Baubley Heart Canisters between versions?

2 parts

FTB Skies 2 1.18.2 ships Baubley Heart Canisters 1.21.1-1.4.0. The mod was already in the pack by FTB Skies 2 1.0.1 or earlier. Here are the notable changes from the mod's own changelogs, newest first.[14]

1.4.0 (the version in this pack)

  • In-game config is now enabled.[15]
  • Heal amounts and cooldowns for heart patches are now configurable.[15]

Earlier releases

  • 1.3.1: Fixed a bug where the bonemeal recipe was replaced with wither bone instead of wither bone being added as an alternative.[16]
  • 1.2.3: Added Russian, Ukrainian, Brazilian Portuguese, French and Korean translations, each contributed by community translators.[17]
  • 1.2.2: Fixed a crash that happened when the Vigor Bow was used by non-players.[18]

Unverified No pack changelog entries for this mod were available, so any changes the FTB Skies 2 releases made to it are unconfirmed.
