What is Carry On?
3 parts
Carry On lets you pick up single block Tile Entities and smaller mobs with your bare hands and carry them around. Chests, Furnaces, Droppers, Spawners and machines from other tech mods all work, and you don't need an item or a pickaxe. The block's states, metadata, inventory and NBT data are kept, so a filled chest stays filled.[1]
How to use it
- With empty hands, hold Shift (this key can be rebound) and Right-Click on a Tile Entity or a mob to lift it.[1]
- Right-Click to place it back down.[1]
Good to know
- You can only carry one Tile Entity or mob at a time, and you can't do other actions while carrying.[1]
- Carrying slows you down. A fuller inventory in the block, or a larger mob, makes the slowness worse.[1]
- Hostile mobs can't be carried in survival mode, though this is configurable.[1]
- Entities can be stacked on each other, but only smaller ones on top of larger ones. Players can be carried too.[1]
- The mod respects the lock functionality, so locked Tile Entities can't be stolen.[1]
- The config can blacklist entire mods or specific blocks. An option to carry standard blocks such as Dirt exists, and the mod leaves it off by default.[1]
Version in this pack
This pack ships Carry On 2.10.0, and the mod was already included in version 1.0.2 or earlier.[2]
How do you get started with Carry On?
3 parts
Good news: there is nothing to craft here. Carry On works with your empty hands, so you can start using it right away. You pick up a block with an inventory, like a chest, or a small mob, carry it, and put it down somewhere else. Contents and block data are kept.[1]
Your first carry
- Empty both hands. The mod needs an empty hand, so you don't need a pickaxe or any other item.[1]
- Stand close to the target. settings.maxDistance is 2.5 in this pack, the same as the mod default, and settings.scaleDistance is on, so the distance scales with your reach.[3]
- Hold Shift and right-click the block or mob to lift it. Shift is the default key and you can rebind it. The key is named Carry and sits in the Carry On category of your controls screen.[1][4]
- Right-click where you want to set it down.[1]
You can only carry one block or mob at a time, and you can't do other actions while carrying. Whatever you carry slows you down. Fuller inventories and larger mobs slow you more, and both settings.heavyTiles and settings.heavyEntities are switched on in this pack. settings.blockSlownessMultiplier and settings.entitySlownessMultiplier are both left at the mod default of 1.[1][3]
What you can pick up in this pack
The pack sets settings.useWhitelistBlocks to true, so blocks use a whitelist instead of a blacklist. Only blocks on that list can be carried. settings.pickupAllBlocks is false, so ordinary blocks like dirt stay put.[1][3]
The whitelist includes Chest, Trapped Chest, Barrel, shulker boxes, Furnace, Blast Furnace, Smoker, Hopper, Dropper, Dispenser, Brewing Stand and Crafter.[3]
It also lists budding blocks from several mods: AE2 budding quartz, entro budding blocks from Extended AE, budding blocks from GeOre, the time crystal budding block from Just Dire Things, budding prismarine from NauTec 2 and budding celestine from Nodeworks. You can pick these up instead of breaking them. The full list is in whitelist.allowedBlocks.[3]
Carrying mobs
Mobs use the blacklist, because settings.useWhitelistEntities is false. blacklist.forbiddenEntities blocks bosses, the warden, shulkers, ghasts, armor stands, item frames and paintings, among others, and villagers are on it too. Hostile mobs can't be picked up in survival, and baby versions of blacklisted mobs stay off limits because settings.allowBabies is false.[1][3]
In survival, size limits apply. settings.maxEntityHeight is 2.5 and settings.maxEntityWidth is 1.5, so a mob must fit within those numbers to be lifted. Players can be picked up too, since settings.pickupPlayers is true.[3]
Mobs can be stacked on each other, and larger mobs can't go on top of smaller ones. settings.maxEntityStackLimit is 10 in this pack, the same as the mod default.[1][3]
How does Carry On work?
6 parts
Carry On lets you pick up a single-block tile entity or a mob with your bare hands, carry it, and put it down somewhere else. States, metadata, inventory and NBT data are kept, so a filled chest keeps its contents. It is not a machine mod: it has no power, fluid or item handling of its own. This section covers how the carrying works and how the pack has set it up.[1]
Picking up and placing
- Make sure your hands are empty.[1]
- Hold Shift (this can be rebound) and right-click the tile entity or mob you want to lift.[1]
- Right-click to place it down again.[1]
The rebindable key is listed as "Carry" under the "Carry On" category in the key bindings. You can only carry one tile entity or mob at a time, and you are blocked from other actions while carrying.[1][4]
Only single-block tile entities can be carried. The mod also respects the lock functionality, so locked tile entities cannot be stolen.[1]
Which blocks you can carry in the pack
The pack runs blocks in whitelist mode: settings.useWhitelistBlocks is true, which the config describes as using the whitelist instead of the blacklist. settings.pickupAllBlocks is false, so ordinary blocks like dirt are not carriable. The allowed list is whitelist.allowedBlocks, and it contains:[1][3]
- Storage: Chest, Trapped Chest, Barrel, every shulker box and every copper chest variant.[3]
- Vanilla machines and redstone blocks: Furnace, Blast Furnace, Smoker, Hopper, Dropper, Dispenser, Brewing Stand and Crafter.[3]
- Budding blocks: Budding Amethyst, the ae2 budding quartz blocks, the Entro budding blocks from Extended AE, the budding blocks from GeOre, Budding Time Crystal Block from Just Dire Things, Budding Prismarine from NauTec 2 and Budding Celestine from Nodeworks.[3]
The pack also keeps a long blacklist.forbiddenTiles list. It includes the cabinet, counter, oven, fridge, sink and other blocks of Cooking for Blockheads, the cable of IntegratedDynamics, and everything from ExtraStorage. Since the whitelist is switched on, that blacklist is the list the config describes for when whitelist mode is off. Carry On's own jar also ships a block blacklist tag naming ExtraStorage blocks such as Advanced Exporter and Advanced Importer. The jar's other whitelist and blacklist tags for blocks and entities are empty, so the pack's lists live in the config.[3][5][6][7][8][9][10][11]
Unbreakable blocks stay off limits for survival players, since settings.pickupUnbreakableBlocks is false. Creative players can always pick them up.[3]
Carrying mobs
Entities use the blacklist, not a whitelist, because settings.useWhitelistEntities is false. The blacklist.forbiddenEntities list blocks bosses, the wither, the warden, the ender dragon, ghasts, shulkers, armor stands, item frames, paintings, minecraft:villager and whole mods such as create, cobblemon and pixelmon. The whitelist whitelist.allowedEntities is empty.[3]
- settings.pickupHostileMobs is false, so hostile mobs cannot be picked up in survival mode.[1][3]
- settings.maxEntityHeight is 2.5 and settings.maxEntityWidth is 1.5. These are the size limits for mobs you can pick up in survival mode, and both match the mod defaults.[3]
- settings.allowBabies is false, so babies are not carriable when the adult mob is blacklisted.[3]
- settings.pickupPlayers is true, so other players can be picked up. Creative players cannot be picked up in survival mode.[1][3]
- settings.relativePlayerScale is true, so entity size is judged relative to the player's scale.[3]
Reach and slowness
You can lift things from up to settings.maxDistance blocks away, which is 2.5 and the mod default. With settings.scaleDistance on, that distance scales with your reach.[3]
Carrying slows you down. Fuller inventories and larger mobs slow you more, and the pack has settings.heavyTiles and settings.heavyEntities both on. The multipliers settings.blockSlownessMultiplier and settings.entitySlownessMultiplier are both 1, the mod default. Creative players are slowed too, because settings.slownessInCreative is true.[1][3]
Getting hit does not make you drop what you carry (settings.dropCarriedWhenHit is false), and you cannot hit blocks or entities while carrying (settings.hitWhileCarrying is false).[3]
Stacking mobs
Mobs can be stacked on each other, and only smaller ones go on top of larger ones. In the pack, settings.stackableEntities is true and settings.entitySizeMattersStacking is true, so a larger entity cannot be put on a smaller one. settings.maxEntityStackLimit is 10, the mod default.[1][3]
Stacking uses the blacklist, since settings.useWhitelistStacking is false. blacklist.forbiddenStacking lists minecraft:horse and minecraft:ender_dragon, so nothing can be stacked on top of those. whitelist.allowedStacking is empty.[3]
Placement and scripting
Placed blocks normally keep all their block state information. settings.placementStateExceptions lists properties that are updated on placement instead, such as the type of a chest or the rotation of a sign.[3]
Pack makers can customise pickup rules with scripts. settings.useScripts is true, and the custom pickup condition lists customPickupConditions.customPickupConditionsBlocks and customPickupConditions.customPickupConditionsEntities are both empty in the pack.[1][3]
How do you progress through Carry On?
2 parts
Carry On has no tiers in this pack. The sources here show no quests and no recipes for it, so there is no progression path to follow. What they do show is which things the mod's data tags treat specially.[5][6]
What the block blacklist covers
The block blacklist tag in Carry On's jar names a group of ExtraStorage blocks. These are the ones you should expect to be off limits for pickup.[5]
- The Advanced Exporter and the Advanced Importer.[5]
- Every block in the ExtraStorage crafter tag.[5]
- The large item storage blocks 256k Storage Block, 1024k Storage Block, 4096k Storage Block and 16384k Storage Block.[5]
- The large fluid storage blocks 16384b Fluid Storage Block, 65536b Fluid Storage Block, 262144b Fluid Storage Block and 1048576b Fluid Storage Block.[5]
The other tags are empty
The jar's other Carry On tags ship with no entries: the second block blacklist, the block whitelist, the entity blacklist and whitelist, and the stacking blacklist and whitelist. Nothing else is listed there, so those tags add no extra restrictions or exceptions.[6][7][8][9][10][11]
Unverified The sources here show no quest and no crafting recipe tied to Carry On, so I can't say where it fits in the pack's progression or whether it has any tiers.
Which Carry On config options matter?
5 parts
Carry On lets you lift tile entities and smaller mobs with your empty hands, and most of what you will notice in this pack comes from two config files. Every numeric value the pack sets matches the mod default shown in the config. What stands out is which blocks and mobs you are allowed to pick up.[1][3]
Which blocks you can carry
The pack sets settings.useWhitelistBlocks to true. That means blocks use the whitelist instead of the blacklist, so only blocks listed in whitelist.allowedBlocks can be picked up. settings.pickupAllBlocks is false, so you are not lifting every block, just the listed tile entities.[3]
The whitelist in this pack covers these blocks:[3]
- Storage: Chest, Trapped Chest, Barrel, every shulker box and every copper chest.[3]
- Utility blocks: Furnace, Blast Furnace, Smoker, Hopper, Dropper, Dispenser, Brewing Stand and Crafter.[3]
- Budding blocks from other mods: the AE2 budding quartz blocks, the budding blocks from Extended AE and GeOre, plus the time crystal budding block from Just Dire Things, the budding prismarine from NauTec 2 and the budding celestine from Nodeworks.[3]
The pack still ships a long blacklist.forbiddenTiles list, which includes spawners, doors, beds and many other mods' blocks. Since the whitelist is the one in use for blocks, that list is not what decides what you can carry.[3]
Which mobs you can carry
Entities work the other way round. settings.useWhitelistEntities is false, so the blacklist in blacklist.forbiddenEntities applies. It blocks bosses, the wither, the elder guardian, the warden, the ender dragon, ghasts, shulkers and the villager, along with a lot of entities from other mods.[3]
- settings.pickupHostileMobs is false, so hostile mobs cannot be picked up in survival mode.[3]
- settings.pickupPlayers is true, so players can be carried.[3]
- settings.allowBabies is false, so a baby of a blacklisted mob does not get a pass.[3]
- settings.maxEntityHeight is 2.5 and settings.maxEntityWidth is 1.5, the same as the mod default. They limit what you can pick up in survival mode.[3]
Stacking mobs
settings.stackableEntities is true, so you can stack entities on top of each other, up to settings.maxEntityStackLimit of 10 (also the mod default). settings.entitySizeMattersStacking is true, so larger entities cannot go on top of smaller ones. Horses and the ender dragon cannot have anything stacked on them, according to blacklist.forbiddenStacking.[3]
Carrying rules
- settings.maxDistance is 2.5, the mod default, and settings.scaleDistance is true, so the pickup distance scales with your reach.[3]
- settings.blockSlownessMultiplier and settings.entitySlownessMultiplier are both 1, the mod default. settings.heavyTiles and settings.heavyEntities are true, so more complex tile entities and larger mobs slow you down more.[1][3]
- settings.slownessInCreative is true, so carrying slows creative players too.[3]
- settings.hitWhileCarrying is false, so you cannot hit blocks or entities while carrying something.[3]
- settings.dropCarriedWhenHit is false, so taking a hit does not make you drop what you are carrying.[3]
- settings.useScripts is true, so custom pickup scripts can run. Setting it to false would disable scripts and improve performance.[3]
Client visuals
- renderArms is true, so arms render at your sides while you carry. The config says to turn it off if you have trouble with mods that replace the player model.[12]
- facePlayer is false, so the front of a carried tile entity faces outward instead of toward you.[12]
- rotateEntitiesSideways is false, so carried mobs are not rotated sideways.[12]
- modelOverrides changes how a few carried things look: a carried redstone wire is shown as the redstone item, a bamboo sapling as bamboo, and a candle cake as a cake.[12]
What changed in Carry On between versions?
1 part
FTB Evolution 2 1.1.0 ships Carry On 2.10.0, built for NeoForge 26.1.2. The mod was already in the pack by 1.0.2 or earlier, so it is not a new addition in this release.[2]
Carry On 2.10.0
The mod's own changelog for 2.10.0 is short: the mod was updated to 26.1.2, with a thank-you to MasatoNakajima20 for helping with the port. No gameplay changes are listed for this version.[13]
Unverified Whether the pack's own release notes changed anything about Carry On, such as settings or behaviour, is not shown in the sources here, so check the FTB Evolution 2 release notes for that.
