What is GeOre?
GeOre is part of the pack's mod list. This pack ships version 8.1.0 of it (the file is GeOre-26.1.2-8.1.0.jar), and it has been in the pack since 1.0.2 or earlier, so it is not a recent addition.[1]
Unverified The sources here include no description of what GeOre does, because no platform metadata and no in-jar guidebook were found for it. They also show no quest book placement for the mod, so its chapter, group and neighbouring quests are not covered in this guide.
How do you get started with GeOre?
4 parts
GeOre adds budding blocks, buds, clusters and shards for a long list of ores. In this pack the shard, block and budding recipes are set up so you can move between them, and that is the best place to start. I'll use iron as the example, since the other ores follow a very similar pattern.[2][3]
Step one: check what generates in the world
The pack's config leaves GeOre generation switched on for several vanilla ores, for example General.generateIronGeore, General.generateDiamondGeore and General.generateGoldGeore. Budding Ancient Debris is on too, through General.generateBuddingAncientDebris.[4]
The modded ones are switched off in this pack, including ModdedGeneration.generateAluminumGeore, ModdedGeneration.generateLeadGeore and ModdedGeneration.generateMonaziteGeore. Since they don't generate, the recipes below are how you get hold of them.[4]
Step two: turn shards into blocks and back
Once you have some shards, such as Iron GeOre Shard, you can compact them into a block. The pack adds this shaped crafting recipe for each ore.[2]
Crafting Shaped
4 × Iron GeOre Shard
Recipe id: ftb:unification/geore/shard_block/iron
Shards to Block Of Iron GeOre, added by the pack.
The reverse is a shapeless recipe that turns one block back into 4 shards.[2]
Crafting Shapeless
Recipe id: ftb:unification/geore/block_to_shard/iron
One block gives 4 shards.
Step three: make a budding block yourself
You don't have to hunt for budding blocks. The pack adds an Energized Power Crystal Growth Chamber recipe that makes Budding Iron GeOre.[2]
Crystal Growth Chamber (energizedpower)
Recipe id: ftb:unification/energizedpower/crystal_growing/budding_growth/iron
Crystal Growth Chamber recipe added by the pack.
Oritech also has its own Assembler recipe for the same block. It is a mod recipe, not one the pack added.[2]
Assembler (oritech)
Recipe id: oritech:compat/geore/assembler/budding_iron
Oritech Assembler alternative.
Step four: get shards out of a budding block
The pack also adds an extractor recipe, filed under shard_from_budding, that makes an Iron GeOre Shard. Other ores have matching extractor recipes.[2]
Extractor (xycraft)
Recipe id: ftb:unification/geore/xycraft/extractor/shard_from_budding/iron
Extractor recipe added by the pack.
The growth multiplier for each ore, for example Balancing.Growth.iron, is left at 1 in this pack, the same as the mod default.[4]
How does GeOre work?
4 parts
In this pack, GeOre works through geodes in the world, budding blocks, and shards you turn into blocks. The machines that touch it belong to other mods, which add recipes for making GeOre items.[2][5]
How a geode is built
The Allthemodium, Aluminum and Black Quartz geode files all share one layout. The outer shell is smooth basalt, the middle layer is calcite, the inner layer is the ore's own block (for example Block Of Aluminum GeOre), and the centre is filled with air.[5][6][7]
Some inner-layer blocks are swapped for the budding version, such as Budding Aluminum GeOre. The files give that swap a chance of 0.083. Small, medium and large buds and a cluster are placed on the inner layer with a chance of 0.35.[5][6][7]
Where geodes spawn
- Coal, Copper, Diamond and Emerald geodes are set to generate in Overworld biomes. All four generate options are true in this pack: General.generateCoalGeore, General.generateCopperGeore, General.generateDiamondGeore and General.generateEmeraldGeore.[4][8][9][10][11]
- Quartz geodes also have a Nether version, and General.generateQuartzInNetherGeore is true in this pack.[4][12]
- Budding Ancient Debris is not a geode. It is scattered in netherrack as single blocks (size 1), with a discard chance on air exposure of 1.0. General.generateBuddingAncientDebris is true.[4][13][14]
- Aluminum and Black Quartz geodes are set for Overworld biomes, Allthemodium for the deep dark, Unobtainium for the End and Vibranium for the Nether. All of these generate options are false in this pack, for example ModdedGeneration.generateAluminumGeore and ModdedGeneration.generateAllthemodiumGeore.[4][15][16][17][18][19][20]
Every ore has a spawn rate and a growth setting under Balancing, such as Balancing.GeOreSpawnRate.diamond and Balancing.Growth.diamond. The pack leaves them at 1, which matches the mod default, and the allowed range is 0.01 to 5.0.[4]
Making budding blocks and shards
You can make budding blocks with machines instead of hunting geodes. The dump lists 48 crystal growth chamber recipes from Energized Power that make GeOre items, and the ones written out are added by the pack. The Oritech assembler has 29 GeOre recipes, and the ones written out are mod recipes.[2]
Crystal Growth Chamber (energizedpower)
Recipe id: ftb:unification/energizedpower/crystal_growing/budding_growth/diamond
The pack adds this crystal growth chamber recipe for Budding Diamond GeOre.
Assembler (oritech)
Recipe id: oritech:compat/geore/assembler/budding_aluminum
An Oritech assembler recipe for Budding Aluminum GeOre, a mod recipe.
Shards and blocks convert both ways. A shapeless crafting recipe turns a block into 4 shards, and a shaped recipe turns shards back into a block. The pack also adds an extractor recipe that gives one shard from a budding block. The recipes written out in the dump cover Aluminum, Coal, Copper and Diamond for these conversions.[2]
Crafting Shapeless
Recipe id: ftb:unification/geore/block_to_shard/diamond
Block Of Diamond GeOre breaks down into 4 Diamond GeOre Shard.
Crafting Shaped
Recipe id: ftb:unification/geore/shard_block/diamond
The pack adds this shaped recipe to turn shards back into a block.
Extractor (xycraft)
Recipe id: ftb:unification/geore/xycraft/extractor/shard_from_budding/diamond
The pack adds this extractor recipe, which gives one Diamond GeOre Shard from a budding block.
Protecting your budding blocks
The General section has a pair of options for moving budding blocks. General.disableImmovability disables the immovability of budding GeOre blocks, and its description says it enables a built-in datapack. General.disablePistonPushForBuddingGeOre overrides the vanilla behaviour of breaking a block when it is pushed. Both are false in this pack, the same as the mod default.[4]
Unverified The other geode files (Coal, Copper, Diamond, Emerald, Gold, Iron, Lapis, Lead and more) are too long to include here, so the sources do not show their layouts or numbers. Only the Allthemodium, Aluminum and Black Quartz layouts above are confirmed.
How do you progress through GeOre?
4 parts
In this pack, GeOre works as a set of material families. Each material has a shard and a block, and many also have a budding block: Aluminum, Coal, Copper, Diamond, Emerald, Gold, Iron, Lapis, Lead, Monazite, Nickel, Osmium, Platinum, Quartz, Redstone, Ancient Debris, Black Quartz and Allthemodium. The progression is about how you get from a budding block to shards, and from shards to blocks.[2]
Shards and blocks
The pack adds a pair of crafting recipes for each material. A shaped recipe turns shards into the matching block, and a shapeless recipe turns that block back into 4 shards. Aluminum is a good example, and the other materials follow the same pattern.[2]
Crafting Shaped
Recipe id: ftb:unification/geore/shard_block/aluminum
Shards into a block of Aluminum GeOre, added by the pack.
Crafting Shapeless
Recipe id: ftb:unification/geore/block_to_shard/aluminum
One block back into 4 shards.
Getting budding blocks
The pack adds a crystal growth chamber recipe from Energized Power for each budding block it covers. Here is the Aluminum one.[2]
Crystal Growth Chamber (energizedpower)
Recipe id: ftb:unification/energizedpower/crystal_growing/budding_growth/aluminum
Budding Aluminum GeOre from the Energized Power crystal growth chamber, added by the pack.
Oritech also has assembler recipes for budding blocks. These are the mod's own compat recipes, not pack changes. Budding Allthemodium and Budding Black Quartz both appear among them.[2]
Assembler (oritech)
Recipe id: oritech:compat/geore/assembler/budding_allthemodium
Budding Allthemodium GeOre from the Oritech assembler.
Turning budding blocks into shards
The pack adds an XyCraft extractor recipe that takes a budding block and gives you a shard of its material.[2]
Extractor (xycraft)
Recipe id: ftb:unification/geore/xycraft/extractor/shard_from_budding/aluminum
Aluminum GeOre Shard from a budding block, added by the pack.
What breaking things gives you
- The Aluminum cluster drops itself with Silk Touch. Without Silk Touch, a tool in the cluster_max_harvestables tag gives 4 Aluminum GeOre Shard with a Fortune bonus, and any other tool gives fewer.[21]
- The Ancient Debris and Allthemodium clusters drop a single shard each without Silk Touch, and the cluster itself with Silk Touch.[22][23]
- Budding Aluminum and Budding Allthemodium have empty loot tables, so breaking them drops nothing.[24][25]
Which GeOre config options matter?
4 parts
Good news first: this pack doesn't change anything in GeOre's config. Every option in the common config file matches the mod default, so you get the stock GeOre behaviour. Here's what's worth knowing if you want to tweak it.[4]
Which GeOres generate
The General group controls the vanilla-material GeOres, and all of them are switched on in this pack. That covers coal, copper, diamond, emerald, gold, iron, lapis, quartz and redstone, plus budding ancient debris and quartz GeOres in the Nether.[4]
- General.generateDiamondGeore and General.generateEmeraldGeore are both true, so diamond and emerald GeOres generate.[4]
- General.generateBuddingAncientDebris is true, so budding ancient debris generates.[4]
- General.generateQuartzInNetherGeore is true, so quartz GeOres also generate in the Nether.[4]
Modded GeOres are off
The ModdedGeneration group covers GeOres for materials from other mods, and every one of them is set to false in this pack, which is also the mod default. That includes allthemodium, aluminum, black quartz, lead, monazite, nickel, osmium, platinum, ruby, sapphire, silver, tin, topaz, tungsten, unobtainium, uraninite, uranium, vibranium and zinc.[4]
If you want one of them, flip its option to true, for example ModdedGeneration.generateTinGeore or ModdedGeneration.generateSilverGeore. The sources here don't show how those materials fit into the rest of the pack, so I can't say which would be useful.[4]
Spawn rate and growth
The Balancing group has a spawn rate and a growth value for each material, such as Balancing.GeOreSpawnRate.diamond and Balancing.Growth.diamond. In this pack every one of them is 1, which is the mod default, and each accepts values from 0.01 to 5.0.[4]
That means you can dial a GeOre down to 0.01 or up to 5.0 without touching anything else. The sources don't spell out how the number is applied internally, so treat it as a multiplier-style scale around the default of 1 and test it in a creative world.[4]
Budding block protection
- General.disableImmovability is false in this pack. The config describes it as disabling the immovability of Budding GeOre blocks, and says that enabling it turns on a built-in datapack.[4]
- General.disablePistonPushForBuddingGeOre is false in this pack. The config describes it as overriding the vanilla behaviour of breaking the block when it is pushed.[4]
