What is Cooking for Blockheads?

Same as in the All the Mods 11 0.10.0-beta guide

This pack includes Cooking for Blockheads version 26.1.2.6. It is the NeoForge build for Minecraft 26.1.2, shipped as the file cookingforblockheads-neoforge-26.1.2-26.1.2.6.jar.[1]

It was already in the pack by the 0.10.0-beta release, so you don't need to add it yourself.[1]

How do you get started with Cooking for Blockheads?

4 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 11 0.10.0-beta guide

Cooking for Blockheads adds a set of kitchen blocks to the pack, such as the Cooking Table, Kitchen Counter, Kitchen Cabinet, Kitchen Connector, Chicken Sink, Coffee Machine and Cookie Jar. The in-pack recipes for these are shown below, so you can follow them without guessing.[2][3]

The recipe books

Start with Cooking for Blockheads I, which is named Cooking for Blockheads I. In this pack its recipes are smelting recipes, not crafting-table recipes.[2][3]

Cooking for Blockheads II (Cooking for Blockheads II) is different: it is a shaped crafting recipe.[2][3]

The pack also has colored versions of these blocks. There are shapeless dye recipes for them, for example the Black Fridge and Black Oven, and shaped recipes whose ids end in from_terracotta, for example the Black Cooking Table.[2][3]

How does Cooking for Blockheads work?

      4 parts

The sources for this mod are thin on machine internals. What they do show clearly is this pack's own change to the Coffee Machine, how the kitchen blocks drop when you break them, and how they are crafted. That is what this section covers.[4][5]

The Coffee Machine (a pack change)

In this pack the Coffee Machine is driven by a pack script. Right-click the machine while holding a water bottle and it turns that bottle into Coffee. Only a potion whose contents are plain water counts, so other potions do nothing.[5]

      1. Carry at least one cocoa bean anywhere in your inventory. The script searches your whole inventory for one, not just your hands.[5]
      2. Hold a water bottle and right-click the Coffee Machine without sneaking. If you hold shift, the script ignores the click.[5]
      3. The machine uses up one cocoa bean (unless you are in creative mode) and swaps your water bottle for the coffee. You get white smoke particles and the brewing stand brewing sound as feedback.[5]
Tip: If you have no cocoa beans, the click is cancelled and a red status message appears. Nothing is consumed, so grab some beans and try again.[5]

What happens when you break kitchen blocks

The loot tables shown for the black variants make the Black Kitchen Connector, Black Cooking Table, Black Sink and Black Kitchen Floor drop themselves as plain items. Each drop is conditional on the block surviving an explosion.[6][7][8][9]

The Black Kitchen Cabinet, Black Chicken Sink, Black Kitchen Counter, Black Fridge and Black Oven work the same way, with one extra: the drop keeps the block's custom name. If you rename one of these blocks, the name stays on the item you pick up.[10][11][12][13][14]

The loot tables shown for the blue cabinet, chicken sink, counter, fridge and oven, and for the brown cabinet, chicken sink, counter and fridge, follow that same keep-the-name pattern.[15][16][17][18][19][20][21][22][23]

      Crafting the kitchen blocks

The mod comes in many colours, and the recipe dump shows two routes for most blocks. One is a shaped recipe from terracotta. The other is a shapeless dye recipe that recolours an existing block. In total the dump counts 134 shaped and 136 shapeless recipes that make items from this mod.[24]

Kitchen floors are the exception to one-at-a-time crafting: the Black Kitchen Floor recipe makes 8 floor blocks per craft.[24]

The recipe book and ice cubes

The Cooking for Blockheads I (named Cooking for Blockheads I) is made by smelting in this pack, and the dump lists two such recipes, one of which has "no_filter_edition" in its id. Ice Cubes come from a recipe of the mod's own kitchen recipe type, not from a normal crafting grid.[4][24]

How do you progress through Cooking for Blockheads?

          4 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 11 0.10.0-beta guide

Cooking for Blockheads doesn't have a tier ladder in this pack's data. The sources show a set of crafted kitchen blocks and many colour variants, but nothing that ranks them or says what to unlock first, so I won't invent an order. What I can show you is how each piece is obtained.[2]

          Getting the recipe books

The Cooking for Blockheads I (Cooking for Blockheads I) is made by smelting, and the pack also has a smelting recipe for a "no filter edition" version of it. The Cooking for Blockheads II (Cooking for Blockheads II) is a normal shaped crafting recipe.[2]

              Core kitchen blocks

The basic kitchen pieces are all shaped crafting recipes: the Cooking Table, Kitchen Counter, Kitchen Cabinet, Kitchen Connector and Chicken Sink. The Coffee Machine, Cookie Jar, Cutting Board, Fruit Basket and Chef Hat are also shaped recipes.[2]

Ice Cubes come from a recipe of the mod's own "kitchen" type rather than a normal crafting or smelting recipe.[2]

              Colour variants

Most kitchen blocks come in colours, and you can get them in different ways. A dye recipe is shapeless, so you can recolour a block you already have. A terracotta recipe is shaped and crafts the coloured block directly. The sources list dye recipes for the cabinet, chicken sink, connector, cooking table, counter, fridge, oven and sink. The black version of the cabinet is Black Kitchen Cabinet, for example.[2]

Coloured kitchen floors are the exception. They are shaped recipes that make 8 floor blocks at a time, such as Black Kitchen Floor.[2]

What drops when you break them

              • The black cabinet, chicken sink, counter, fridge and oven, and the blue cabinet and chicken sink, drop themselves and keep any custom name you gave them.[25][26][27][28][29][30][31]
              • The black connector, cooking table, kitchen floor and sink, and the blue connector and cooking table, drop themselves with no name copying.[32][33][34][35][36][37]

What changed in Cooking for Blockheads between versions?

              1 part

FTB Evolution 2 1.1.0 ships Cooking for Blockheads version 26.1.2.6. The mod was already in the pack as of 1.0.2 or earlier, so it is not a new addition in this release.[38]

              26.1.2.6

              • Fixed a crash that happened when bone-mealing the fridge. If you hit this in an earlier version, updating to this one is the fix.[39]

The sources here do not include any pack changelog entries for this mod, and no other mod changelogs, so this is the only change I can confirm.[38][39]
