What is Firmalife?
2 parts
This pack includes Firmalife 1.2.13, an add-on that builds on TerraFirmaCraft's food and farming. It makes several things more involved than in regular TFC: cheese, bread and sweeteners, plus new fruits, berries and herbs.[1][2]
What it adds
- Beekeeping: bees live in a Wooden Beehive with Beehive Frame inside, and they make honey and beeswax.[3]
- Cheese and bread: cheese is made from several kinds of curds and can be aged, and bread needs yeast and sweetener. The regular TFC bread recipe only makes flatbread, which is worse nutritionally.[2][4][5]
- Chocolate: you roast cocoa beans, then mix cocoa powder, butter and sweetener in a Mixing Bowl.[6]
- New plants: cocoa and fig trees, nightshade and pineapple bushes, and herbs and spices such as basil.[7][8][9]
- Cellars and greenhouses: both are multiblocks run by a Climate Station. Cellars age cheese and preserve food, and greenhouses let you grow crops year round.[10][11][12]
Where it fits in the pack
Firmalife puts a lot of weight on sugar. Besides sugar cane, you can use honey from bees or make sugar from beets. Raw Honey, which you get by opening a Honey Jar, works as a sugar substitute.[2][3]
The pack's quest book follows the beekeeping line. There are quests for getting a Wooden Beehive (a quest in "{gravitas.chapters.1.title}"), a Beehive Frame (a quest in "{gravitas.chapters.1.title}"), some Beeswax (a quest in "{gravitas.chapters.1.title}"), and Raw Honey plus an Empty Jar (a quest in "{gravitas.chapters.1.title}"). A further quest asks for 8 Treated Lumber (a quest in "{gravitas.chapters.1.title}").[13]
That order makes sense, because the most important use of beeswax is crafting treated lumber. Treated lumber is also one of the greenhouse types, and food shelves are made from planks and lumber.[3][12][14]
Unverified The sources don't confirm any link between Firmalife and the ATM Star progression path, so this guide doesn't claim one.
How do you get started with Firmalife?
3 parts
Your first Firmalife goal in this pack is simple: get a bee setup running. Bees give you Beeswax and Raw Honey, and the pack's quest chapter walks you through exactly these items. Honey is also a sweetener alternative to sugar, which matters because Firmalife puts a lot more emphasis on sweeteners than regular TFC does.[2][3][13]
Step by step
- Make a Beehive Frame. Bees can only live in a hive that has frames inside, so this comes first. The pack has a quest for it: a quest in "{gravitas.chapters.1.title}".[3][13]
- Craft a Wooden Beehive and put your frames in it. This is the target of a quest in "{gravitas.chapters.1.title}".[3][13]
- Make an Empty Jar. Using one on a hive that visibly has honey gives you a Honey Jar, and opening that gives you Raw Honey. a quest in "{gravitas.chapters.1.title}" asks for both Raw Honey and an Empty Jar.[3][13]
- Press a filled frame with a Knife to get Beeswax, which is what a quest in "{gravitas.chapters.1.title}" asks for. Be careful, because this kills the queen inside that frame.[3][13]
- Turn beeswax into Treated Lumber. a quest in "{gravitas.chapters.1.title}" asks for 8 of it, and it is the most important use of beeswax.[3][13]

The pack changed how Raw Honey is made from a honey jar, so don't assume the mod's default recipe applies here. Check the recipe below.[15]
Getting bees to move in
A hive knows about the area within a 5 block radius. With at least 10 flowers around it, an empty frame can be populated with a queen, and you'll see bee particles around the hive. Having 4 empty frames in a hive greatly increases the chances of bees moving in.[3]
The full beekeeper suit is four pieces, and each one has its own recipe.[15][16]
Where treated lumber takes you next
Once you have treated lumber, a few of the next steps open up. The Mixing Bowl is one of them, and the pack changed its recipe. You need a Spoon to use it. The pack also changed the Treated Wood greenhouse block recipes, such as the Treated Wood Greenhouse Wall.[15][17]
How does Firmalife work?
7 parts
Same as in the All the Mods - Gravitas 4.0 guide
Firmalife is built around a few multiblocks and small machines that all plug into TFC's food and farming systems. Once you understand the Climate Station, the oven stack and how fluids move, the rest falls into place.[10][11][18]
The Climate Station
The Climate Station is the brain of both the Cellar and the Greenhouse. It has to sit on the first level of the multiblock, touching a wall. When the structure is built correctly it shows water on its sides, and when it is invalid it shows ice, so you can see at a glance whether your build works.[10][11]
It updates on its own periodically, and also when it is placed or broken. Each update tells the blocks inside the multiblock that they may operate, which is what lets cheese start aging, for example. You can also force an update of the station and the blocks inside after you fix your build.[11]

Cellars
A Cellar is an enclosed area surrounded on all sides by Sealed Bricks or Sealed Brick Doors, with a Climate Station on the first level. Cellars age cheese and preserve food. They work better in cooler environments.[10]
The pack sets the temperature thresholds in its server config. Below an average of 0 degrees (general.cellarLevel2Temperature) the decay modifiers get stronger, and below -12 (general.cellarLevel3Temperature) they get stronger again.[10][19]
Food Shelves and Hangers only work inside a valid Cellar. A Food Shelf holds a full stack of one food item and gives a better decay modifier than vessels. The Hanger stores meat or garlic and gives a better modifier than shelves or vessels.[14][20]
Cheese wheels are placed as blocks and aged in the Cellar. In this pack a wheel becomes Aged after the number of days in general.cheeseAgedDays (28) and Vintage after the number in general.cheeseVintageDays (112). Slice cheese off the wheel with a Knife, because breaking the block loses the aging.[4][19]
Greenhouses and planters
A Greenhouse is an enclosed area built from blocks of one Greenhouse Type, controlled by a Climate Station, and it lets you grow crops year round. The floor can be any solid block. There are four block kinds: Walls, Doors, Roofs (stairs) and Roof Tops (slabs).[12]
Most greenhouse blocks age but stay in the same type, so your greenhouse keeps working. Treated Wood becomes Weathered, Copper goes Exposed, Weathered, then Oxidized, Iron becomes Rusted, and Stainless Steel does not age.[12]
In this pack the wall, door, roof and roof top recipes for copper and iron have been changed from the mod's versions. Here is the iron wall as an example.[21]

Changed by the pack. The copper, roof and roof top variants are also listed as changed by the pack.
Planters must sit inside a valid greenhouse, be activated by the Climate Station, and get at least some natural sunlight. Check one by looking at it with a Hoe. Most need watering, which you do with a Watering Can.[22]
- Large Planters grow one crop each: Green Beans, Tomatoes, Sugarcane, Jute and Grains. Grains need a Copper or better greenhouse.[22]
- Quad Planters grow four crops that share one nutrient pool (Beets, Cabbage, Carrots, Garlic, Onions, Potatoes, Soybeans) in any greenhouse type.[22]
- Bonsai Planter grows small fruit trees, except Bananas, and needs an Iron or better greenhouse.[22]
- Hanging Planters grow Squash (any greenhouse) and Bananas (Iron or better). They must anchor to a solid block above.[22]
- Trellis Planters grow berry bushes except Cranberries, need an Iron or better greenhouse, and can propagate a mature bush upward into a planter stacked on top.[22]
- Hydroponic Planters grow rice and cranberry bushes. They skip watering, but need a Nutritive Vat below them or they will not grow.[22]
For automatic watering, a Sprinkler waters a 5x6x5 area centered on the block below it. It fills itself from any fluid tank or pipe placed above, and a barrel of water is the easiest setup. The dribbler works the same way but only waters the 7 blocks below it.[23]
Ovens
An oven is a multiblock of a Bottom Oven, a Top Oven and optional Chimneys. Food baked in it decays at 90% of the normal rate. The bottom oven holds fuel (logs only) and is the part you light. It passes heat to the top oven, which holds the food and releases heat slowly, so it keeps working briefly after the fuel runs out.[18]
Every side except the front must be insulated with Bricks, other oven blocks, or anything that can insulate a Forge, so stone blocks work. A stack of Chimneys directly behind the oven carries the smoke away.[18]
Oven blocks start as clay and must be cured. The pack sets the minimum temperature to general.ovenCureTemperature (600) and the curing time to general.ovenCureTicks (2,000 ticks). The in-game guide says about 80 seconds, so go by the pack's config. Curing spreads to nearby oven blocks and up chimneys.[18][19]
Oven appliances
- The Oven Hopper feeds logs into the Bottom Oven it faces. It holds 16 logs, you fill it by dropping items in the top, and other mods can automate it.[24]
- The Ashtray goes below a Bottom Oven and collects Wood Ash, with a 0.5 chance of gaining ash each time fuel is consumed.[24]
- The Vat sits on the block above a Bottom Oven. It has one item slot and a fluid space similar to a barrel, and must be sealed before it boils. If a recipe would overflow it, it will not boil.[24]
- TFC Pots and Grills can sit on top of a Bottom Oven and take heat automatically. Each has only 4 slots, and the pot only makes soup.[24]

A Vat recipe example is Olive Oil Water at a ratio of 1 Olive Paste to 200 mB Water. The Vat can also make Sugar Water and Fruity Fluid. Be careful, because piping Fruity Fluid through too many transfers could ruin it. A Jarring Station facing a vat of Fruity Fluid automatically fills up to 9 jars placed inside.[24][25]
Drying, smoking and composting
The Drying Mat dries items in the sun, and rain resets the process. The pack's general.dryingTicks is 12,000 ticks, half a day. A solar drier works the same way but uses general.solarDryingTicks, which is 1,000 ticks and so 12x as fast.[19][26]
Crafting Shaped
Recipe id: firmalife:crafting/drying_mat
For smoking, hang wool string within four blocks above a firepit. The firepit must burn only logs, because something like Peat instantly gives the food the Disgusting trait. Meat must be brined first, and cheese needs no prep. In this pack the time is general.smokingTicks, 8,000 ticks, which matches the guide's 8 in-game hours.[19][27]
The Iron Composter works like the normal Composter but also feeds compost directly into a hopper below it. The guide says four days, but this pack sets general.ironComposterTicks to 72,000 ticks (24,000 ticks is 1 day), so trust the config.[19][28]
Bees and the Mixing Bowl
A Wooden Beehive needs Beehive Frame items inside for bees to live. A hive knows about a 5 block radius. With at least 10 flowers nearby, an empty frame can gain a Queen, and 4 empty frames greatly improve the odds. Two queen frames plus an empty frame can breed, passing on abilities on a scale of 1 to 10.[3][21]
Hardiness lets bees produce honey in the cold, down to -16°C at 10 and 2°C at 1. High Mutant bees can develop a Genetic Disease, which they pass on and which stops honey production. Scraping a filled frame with a Knife gives Beeswax but kills the queen. In this pack bees can swarm if provoked, because general.enableBeeSwarm is true.[3][19]
The Mixing Bowl combines items and fluids. Use a Spoon on it to add the spoon to the bowl, which lets it operate.[17]
How do you progress through Firmalife?
4 parts
Firmalife progression in this pack starts with bees. The pack's quest chapter has five Firmalife quests that take you from a hive to Treated Lumber. After that, the cellar and the greenhouse tiers are your next goals.[3][13]
Stage 1: Bees, honey and beeswax
These are the five Firmalife quests in the pack's quest chapter. Each one asks you to hand in an item:[13]
- a quest in "{gravitas.chapters.1.title}" asks for a Wooden Beehive.[13]
- a quest in "{gravitas.chapters.1.title}" asks for a Beehive Frame.[13]
- a quest in "{gravitas.chapters.1.title}" asks for Raw Honey and an Empty Jar.[13]
- a quest in "{gravitas.chapters.1.title}" asks for Beeswax.[13]
- a quest in "{gravitas.chapters.1.title}" asks for 8 Treated Lumber.[13]
Start with the frame and the hive. A hive needs frames inside it before bees will live there.[3][15]

For honey, you need an Empty Jar. Use it on a hive that visibly has honey to get a Honey Jar, then open that jar to get Raw Honey. The guide describes Raw Honey as a Sugar substitute.[3]
The pack changes the recipe that turns honey into Raw Honey, so check the recipe viewer instead of relying on the base mod.[15]
For beeswax, press a filled frame in your inventory with a Knife.[3]
Stage 2: Treated lumber
The guide calls Treated Lumber the most important use of beeswax, and the pack's last quest in this list asks you for it.[3][13]

Treated Lumber is used in these crafts:[15]
- The Mixing Bowl and the Plate. The pack changed both recipes.[15]
- The Solar Drier, which the pack also changed. The guide says it works like the Drying Mat but 12x as fast.[15][26]
- The Jarring Station and the Hydroponic Planter, which use the mod's own recipes.[15]
Stage 3: Sealed bricks and the cellar
Sealed Bricks are the building block for the cellar. The cellar is a multiblock, and its only requirement is that it sits in an enclosed area surrounded by Sealed Bricks or Sealed Brick Doors on all sides.[10][15]

The cellar is where cheese wheels age, and it is also used for food preservation.[4][10]
Stage 4: Greenhouse tiers
The greenhouse is also controlled by a Climate Station, and it lets you grow crops year round. The material you build it from is your tier. There are four types, and each has Walls, Doors, Roofs and Roof Tops.[12]
- Treated Wood ages into Weathered.[12]
- Copper ages through Exposed, Weathered and Oxidized.[12]
- Iron ages into Rusted.[12]
- Stainless Steel does not age.[12]
Aged blocks stay in the same greenhouse type, so your greenhouse keeps working as it weathers. The pack changed the treated wood, copper and iron greenhouse recipes, while the stainless steel ones are the mod's own. Here is the wall recipe for each tier:[12][15]

How does Firmalife work with other mods?
3 parts
Firmalife in this pack doesn't live on its own island. Many of its recipes use TerraFirmaCraft (TFC) items, and the pack adds Create, a Create addon and Advanced TFC Tech hooks on top. Here's what connects to what.[15]
Create and its addon
Chocolate is the big bridge. The pack changed the Create compacting recipe so Create's Chocolate turns into Firmalife's Dark Chocolate.[15]
It also goes the other way. Firmalife's own Chocolate is used in Create filling recipes, and the pack changed both of these. One makes Chocolate Glazed Berries, and the other makes Chocolate Cake from a Baked Cake Base.[15]
Filling (create)
250× Chocolate
- any berry
Recipe id: create:filling/chocolate_glazed_berries
Firmalife's Empty Jar also shows up in Create's emptying recipes. In this pack, emptying Builder's Tea or a honey bottle gives you the jar back, and the pack changed both recipes.[15]
Emptying (create)
- any honey
Recipe id: create:emptying/honey_bottle
The pack also added a Create pressing recipe that turns a Pumpkin into Pumpkin Chunks. Firmalife already has its own hand-crafted way to chop pumpkins, so this is an extra option for automation.[15]
Advanced TFC Tech and pineapple leather
Pineapples can become a plant-based leather. Dried pineapples give fiber, which is spun into Pineapple Yarn. The yarn then moves into Advanced TFC Tech, where it is paired with a Pirn to make a Pineapple-Winded Pirn. A power loom then gives you Pineapple Leather and the pirn back. The recipes below show each step.[8][15]

TerraFirmaCraft is the foundation
Most Firmalife crafting leans on TFC items. These are the links you'll hit most often:[15]
- Jars and planters: the pack changed the recipes for the Compost Jar, Guano Jar and Rotten Compost Jar, which tie them to TFC Compost, Guano and Rotten Compost. Opening a jar gives the TFC item back.[15]
- Planters: the Large Planter, Quad Planter, Hanging Planter, Trellis Planter and Bonsai Planter all use Compost.[15]
- Cheese: the cheese wheels, such as Cheddar Cheese Wheel, use Salt. Curdling milk uses a TFC sealed barrel recipe.[15]
- Beekeeping gear: the beekeeper armor starts from vanilla leather armor, and the Wooden Beehive uses Thatch and TFC lumber.[15]
- Cellar tech: the Climate Station needs Brass Mechanisms.[15]
- Wood furniture: the food shelves, hangers and jarbnets are made from TFC logs, lumber and planks. Jarbnets also need a brass rod.[15]
- Bread: Firmalife slices and sandwiches work with TFC breads such as Wheat Bread, and Firmalife doughs start from TFC flours.[15]
Several quests in this pack only ask for Firmalife items, such as beeswax, beehive frames and treated lumber. None of the quests I was given use items from two mods at once.[13]
Which All the Mods - Gravitas quests use Firmalife?
2 parts
Firmalife shows up in one quest chapter of the pack. The chapter title is not readable in the pack data I was given, and the quests have no names, so they are listed below by their quest refs. There are five Firmalife quests, and each one asks you to hold items from the mod.[13]
What the quests ask for
- a quest in "{gravitas.chapters.1.title}" asks for 8 Treated Lumber.[13]
- a quest in "{gravitas.chapters.1.title}" asks for a Wooden Beehive.[13]
- a quest in "{gravitas.chapters.1.title}" asks for a Beehive Frame.[13]
- a quest in "{gravitas.chapters.1.title}" asks for Beeswax.[13]
- a quest in "{gravitas.chapters.1.title}" has two tasks: Raw Honey and an Empty Jar.[13]
Order
Each of these quests unlocks after a different prerequisite quest. The treated lumber, beehive and beehive frame quests each have their own prerequisite. The beeswax quest and the raw honey and jar quest share the same one, so you can work on those two in either order once it is done.[13]
Unverified The prerequisite quests themselves are not part of the Firmalife list above, and their tasks and titles are unverified, so I can't give you one full start-to-finish order for the five quests.
Which Firmalife config options matter?
4 parts
Same as in the All the Mods - Gravitas 4.0 guide
Firmalife keeps its main settings in one server config file. Here is how this pack sets the options you're most likely to care about. All the tick values use the same conversion: 24,000 ticks is 1 day.[19]
Cheese and cellars
- general.cheeseAgedDays is 28. That's the number of days cheese spends in a cellar to become Aged.[19]
- general.cheeseVintageDays is 112 days in a cellar for cheese to become Vintage.[19]
- general.cellarLevel2Temperature is 0. Below this average temperature, stronger decay modifiers apply to cellar blocks.[19]
- general.cellarLevel3Temperature is -12. Below this average temperature, even stronger decay modifiers apply.[19]
Drying, smoking and composting times
- general.dryingTicks is 12,000 ticks to dry something on a drying mat.[19]
- general.solarDryingTicks is 1,000 ticks to dry something on a solar drier.[19]
- general.smokingTicks is 8,000 ticks to smoke something on a string.[19]
- general.ironComposterTicks is 72,000 ticks for an iron composter to finish.[19]
Oven behavior
- general.ovenCureTemperature is 600. This is the minimum temperature for an oven to start curing.[19]
- general.ovenCureTicks is 2,000 ticks for an oven to cure.[19]
- general.ovenRequirePeel is true, so ovens hurt you if you touch them without a peel in hand.[19]
Other toggles
- general.enableBeeSwarm is true, so provoked bees can swarm and hurt you.[19]
- general.enableSeedBalls is true, so you can throw seed balls.[19]
- general.hollowShellCapacity is 100 mB. The file's own comment lists 100 as the default, so this one matches it.[19]
Unverified The pack's config file doesn't list mod defaults for most of these options, apart from the hollow shell capacity. I can't confirm which of the values above the pack changed, so treat them as this pack's settings rather than as changes.
