What is The Undergarden?
2 parts
The Undergarden adds a dark, subterranean dimension deep below the bedrock of the Overworld. Its plants have adapted to the gloom and can grow anywhere, no light needed. The creatures that live there are plagued by the invasive Rotspawn, monsters that come from a chaotic, mysterious realm.[1]
This pack includes The Undergarden 0.9.8. It is a good fit if you want a whole new dimension to explore, build in and survive in, beyond the usual Overworld, Nether and End loop.[1][2]
What you get
- 15 biomes and over 10 unique entities to discover.[1]
- Ores that have special properties when made into tools and weapons.[1]
- 4 special potion effects and 1 dungeon.[1]
- Over 10 advancements to guide you on your journey, plus over 10 music tracks.[1]
Getting in
First you craft a Catalyst. Then you build a frame in the shape of a Nether portal out of Stone Bricks or Deepslate Bricks. Light the portal by right-clicking the inner bottom of the frame with the Catalyst. Bricks derived from the Undergarden work for the frame too.[1]
Unverified Where the Undergarden fits in this pack's progression is unconfirmed. The sources do not show it on the ATM Star path, and they show no quests for it. There is also no in-jar guidebook to check, so the pack's recipes and config changes for this mod are not covered here.
How do you get started with The Undergarden?
4 parts
The Undergarden is a dark, subterranean world below the bedrock of the Overworld. Your first goal is getting in, and to enter you must first craft the Catalyst.[1]
First, craft the Catalyst
The Catalyst is your key to the dimension. This is the in-pack recipe, exactly as the pack has it:[1][3]
Crafting Shaped
| any copper ingot | any stone | any copper ingot |
| any stone | any ender pearl | any stone |

Next, build the portal and light it
- Build a frame in the shape of a Nether portal using Stone Bricks or Deepslate Bricks. Bricks from the Undergarden itself also work.[1]
- Right-click the inner bottom of the frame with the Catalyst to activate the portal.[1]
Once you step through, the "enter the Undergarden" advancement is yours. The mod also has an advancement for mining any Undergarden ore, which is a nice nudge toward your next goal.[4]
Then, gear up with Cloggrum
Cloggrum is the mod's early metal. The pack has the full set of Cloggrum crafting recipes, including the Cloggrum Pickaxe and Cloggrum Sword. Start with the pickaxe so you can keep mining down here.[3]

There is also an advancement for a full suit of Cloggrum armor. The Cloggrum Boots are worth wearing for their own perk: Scintling Goo doesn't slow you down when you wear them.[3][4]
Looking ahead: Forgotten tools
Once you're settled, you can upgrade Cloggrum tools and weapons into Forgotten ones. You need a Forgotten Ingot, which you forge from a Forgotten Guardian's nuggets, plus the Forgotten Tool Upgrade. The payoff is big: Forgotten tools mine Undergarden blocks 1.5x as fast, and Forgotten weapons deal 1.5x damage to non-boss Undergarden mobs.[3][4]

Unverified This pack has no quests involving the Undergarden, and the recipe dump doesn't show where Cloggrum comes from. Check in-game, for example in JEI, for how to get the ore and ingots. This site does hold All the Mods 11's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.
How does The Undergarden work?
5 parts
The sources here don't describe any machines, power or fluid systems for The Undergarden. Its mechanics are about getting into the dimension, surviving what lives there, and upgrading gear. Here is what the available sources confirm.[1][4]
Entering the dimension
The Undergarden is a dark, subterranean world below the bedrock of the Overworld. Plants there can grow anywhere, independent of light. To get in, you first craft a Catalyst.[1]
Crafting Shaped
| any copper ingot | any stone | any copper ingot |
| any stone | any ender pearl | any stone |
| any copper ingot | any stone | any copper ingot |
Recipe id: undergarden:catalyst
- Build a frame in the shape of a Nether portal out of Stone Bricks or Deepslate Bricks. Bricks derived from the Undergarden also work.[1]
- Right-click the inner bottom of the frame with the Catalyst to activate the portal.[1]
Rotspawn and the Utheric Infection
The land is plagued by the invasive Rotspawn, monsters that come from a chaotic, mysterious realm. Weapons made from utherium deal 1.5x damage to Rotspawn.[1][4]
There is also the Utheric Infection. One advancement tells you not to let it get out of control. The Purity effect reduces the amount of infection an entity has per second, and the amount removed scales with potion level. Some consumables also soothe the infection when eaten, and their tooltip says so.[4]
Potion effects
- Brittleness: the higher the victim's armor value, the more damage they take. The damage scales with potion level.[4]
- Chilly: slows the victim down and makes them visually shake.[4]
- Featherweight: when damaged, the victim receives increased knockback, scaling with potion level.[4]
- Gooey: Scintling Goo is constantly placed under the victim's feet.[4]
- Virulence: similar to poison, but it does more damage at a slower rate. Virulent Resistance suppresses that damage and grants immunity to Virulence.[4]
Slingshot enchantments
The Slingshot has enchantments of its own. Longevity increases its max durability. Ricochet makes fired projectiles bounce off block surfaces. Self Sling makes it fire you instead of ammo, and you need to be on the ground for it to work.[4]
Cloggrum and Forgotten upgrades
Cloggrum ingots can be crafted into a Block of Cloggrum, and an ingot can be broken down into nuggets.[3]
A Forgotten Ingot is forged from a Forgotten Guardian's nuggets. You then use it to upgrade Cloggrum tools and weapons. The upgrade's smithing template takes a cloggrum weapon or tool in its base slot. Forgotten tools mine Undergarden blocks 1.5x as fast, and Forgotten weapons deal 1.5x damage to non-boss Undergarden mobs.[4]
Unverified The pack has no config files for this mod in the sources here, so whether it changes any Undergarden values or behaviour is not shown. Treat the details above as what the mod's own text and project page say.
How do you progress through The Undergarden?
3 parts
The Undergarden's metals in this pack are Cloggrum, Froststeel and Forgotten Metal. Each has ingot, nugget and block items, and the pack has recipes that convert between those forms. The recipe sources here list the items and recipes, but they do not show the ingredients or any tier order, so this section sticks to what each metal gives you.[3]
Cloggrum
You can make Cloggrum Ingot and Cloggrum Nugget, and compress them into a Block of Cloggrum. There is a tool set (sword, pickaxe, axe, shovel, hoe, plus a Cloggrum Spear) and armor: Cloggrum Helmet, Cloggrum Chestplate, Cloggrum Leggings and Cloggrum Boots. It also covers utility and building pieces like Cloggrum Bucket, Cloggrum Lantern, Cloggrum Ladder and Cloggrum Bars.[3]

Froststeel
Froststeel follows the same layout: Froststeel Ingot, Froststeel Nugget and Block of Froststeel. It has a tool set including a Froststeel Spear, and armor from the Froststeel Helmet down to the Froststeel Boots.[3]

How does The Undergarden work with other mods?
3 parts
In this pack, The Undergarden links up with Productive Trees and Productive Bees through recipes that use items from both sides.[3]
Productive Trees: sawing Undergarden planks
The pack adds sawmill recipes that turn Sawdust into Undergarden planks: Ancient Root Planks, Grongle Planks, Smogstem Planks and Wigglewood Planks. These recipes are not part of the base mods, the pack added them.[3]

Productive Bees: Undergarden materials from the centrifuge
Productive Bees has centrifuge recipes for Undergarden materials. Each gives you Wax plus an Undergarden item: Raw Cloggrum, Forgotten Nugget, Raw Froststeel, Regalium Crystal or Utheric Shard. These are recipes from the mod itself, not changes made by the pack.[3]

Which The Undergarden config options matter?
Same as in the All the Mods 10 2.6 guide
Unverified This pack doesn't ship a config file for The Undergarden, so there are no pack-specific values to tune here: nothing has been changed from the mod's own defaults, and there's no file to edit in the pack's config folder.
That means the dimension behaves as the mod ships it: the biomes, mobs, ores and dungeon are all there with no pack-side adjustments you need to know about before you dive in.[1]
What changed in The Undergarden between versions?
4 parts
All the Mods 11 0.8.0-beta ships The Undergarden 0.9.8, and the mod has been in the pack since 0.3.0-beta or earlier. The notes I have are the mod's own 0.9.7 changelog, one version before the one in the pack, and that changelog is cut off partway through. I have no 0.9.8 changelog and no pack changelog entries for this mod, so treat this as a partial picture of what changed on the way to the version you're playing.[2][5]
New content in 0.9.7
- Thornreed is an Undergarden equivalent to sugar cane that generates underwater.[5]
- The undergar is a new neutral fish found in the ancient sea. It drops undergar fillets when it dies.[5]
- Twistybush is a new block that drops twistytwigs. It spawns in various biomes that don't have wigglewood trees.[5]
- Rogdorium infused underbeans will mutate a dweller into a greater version.[5]
- New cloggrum grate, pillar and ladder blocks, plus a bunch of new sediment variant blocks.[5]
- A new config option lets you spawn in the Undergarden. If the bonus chest setting is enabled, you also get a special Undergarden bonus chest on first spawn.[5]
- The s'mog was remodeled, and every baby mob now has a unique model.[5]
Gear and combat
- Spears were renamed javelins, their damage was tweaked, and they are now stackable.[5]
- Battleaxes got a unique third person swing animation, and they can now only be swung with a full melee charge.[5]
- Froststeel armor values were buffed slightly and froststeel tool durability was buffed significantly. Most other tool and armor values were adjusted slightly.[5]
- Utherium tools can now break dreadrock related blocks.[5]
- Slingshot ammo moved to a data component. It lets you define hit and shoot sounds, particles, effects on hit, and the textures used on the slingshot while charging.[5]
Mobs and effects
- Forgotten guardians no longer despawn in peaceful. They enter an inactive state instead, which makes them invulnerable to any damage.[5]
- Rotwalkers and stoneborn now actually swing to hit their target instead of just standing there.[5]
- Stoneborn trades are now data driven, and you can't trade with a stoneborn that is angry at something.[5]
- Greater dwellers now give birth to normal baby dwellers, and normal dwellers are immune to the utheric infection.[5]
- The utheric infection damage curve is now more exponential instead of linear, so damage starts slow and ramps up the longer you have it.[5]
Fixes and removals
- Fixed a game crash when giving yourself a high level of the purity effect.[5]
- Fixed the strange fish advancement not working with the cloggrum bucket.[5]
- Fixed vanilla dirt rarely generating under some trees.[5]
- Removed the Undergarden scaffold recipe, the Undergarden lead recipe and the Undergarden fog config.[5]
