What is Oritech?

2 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 11 0.8.0-beta guide

Oritech is an open-source tech mod built around animated machinery. You get processing machines, world-interaction machines, logistics parts, new world generation features, tools, armor and decorative blocks. Most machines are animated multiblocks, and you upgrade them with addon blocks.[1]

This pack ships Oritech 2.0.0-exp6.[2]

What you can build

  • Multiple ore processing chains and variants.[1]
  • The mod's project page lists automated farming machines, plus electric tools and armor, among its features.[1]
  • Item, fluid and energy pipes. There is only 1 pipe tier for each type, and the pipes are generally pretty fast.[1]
  • Drones that move items across vast distances, and lasers that mine blocks automatically.[1]
  • Cybernetic player augmentation and particle accelerators.[1]
  • Many ways to generate energy, from burning fossil fuels to running sustainable biofuel farms.[1]

Design ideas worth knowing

Oritech tries to give you more than one way to get things done, so you don't get stuck waiting on one rare item. Plastic is the example the mod itself uses: you can make it from farming items or from oil processing. The mod's own page admits this isn't always true yet in its test releases.[1]

It also aims for renewable resources. Fuel and items come from large automated farms, and the bedrock extractor gives you renewable metals late in the game. Naturally spawned resource nodes and oil wells are there to push you into building auxiliary bases and hauling the output back to a central hub.[1]

If you use EMI, Oritech works best with it, though JEI and REI are supported too. Its NeoForge builds also include compatibility with mods such as Create, Mekanism, Applied Energistics 2 and Immersive Engineering, so metals and components can be processed in Oritech machines and the other way round.[1]

Unverified The sources I have don't show Oritech on the ATM Star path, in any quests, or at a specific point in the pack's progression, so I can't say where it fits. There is also no in-jar guidebook to check.

How do you get started with Oritech?

3 parts

Oritech is a big tech mod, and the pack's quest book has no chapter to hold your hand through it, so the mod's own advancements are your best checklist. They tell you what the mod wants you to reach, and they read like a first-steps path.[3]

Step 1: get some raw nickel

The advancement that starts the whole tree is "Nickel & Dime": you begin your technological adventure by acquiring Raw Nickel. Deepslate Nickel Ore exists as a block in the mod. Raw nickel also shows up as a result in other machine recipes: one fragment forge recipe lists raw iron and raw nickel as its results, and the bedrock extractor can output it too.[3][4]

Bedrock Extractor (oritech)

    Recipe id: oritech:deepdrill/nickel

The bedrock extractor can produce raw nickel.

    Step 2: the basic machines

After that, the advancements point you at the machines in roughly this spirit: a pulverizer to turn ores into dust, a powered furnace, a basic generator for power, then an assembler, a centrifuge, a foundry and finally an atomic forge. The sources here do not give the crafting recipes for these machines, so check them in your recipe viewer.[3]

Tip: Oritech includes JEI, REI and EMI compatibility, and it works best with EMI. Look up any machine or item there to see its in-pack recipe.[1]

    What this pack changes

The pack adds its own recipes for two Oritech items with KubeJS. If you follow the advancement about an ultimate machine core, expect the Improved Machine Core and the Machine Addon Extender to be crafted the pack's way, not the mod's default way.[3][4]

The pack also adds hammer recipes that turn ingots back into dust. For example, you can make Adamant Dust from an Adamant Ingot. AllTheOres provides these recipes, and the Biosteel and Duratium ingots get the same treatment.[4]

The pack also adds two refinery recipes. One outputs Heavy Oil, Light Naphtha and Sulfuric Acid. The other outputs Diesel, Light Naphtha and Sulfuric Acid. These are for later, once your base is running.[4]

Tip: Oritech is designed so that most things have more than one way to be made, to avoid roadblocks where one rare item blocks you. If one route is annoying, look for another recipe in your recipe viewer.[1]

    How does Oritech work?

    6 parts

Oritech machines are mostly animated multiblocks, and upgrades come from addon blocks you attach to them. The mod is built so that most things can be reached in more than one way, and the pack follows that design: you will see the same material show up from several different machines below.[1]

    Machine cores and addons

Machine cores come in seven tiers, from the Primitive Machine Core up to the Ultimate Machine Core. The Improved Machine Core, Improved Machine Core, is tier 3. The Ultimate core even has its own advancement, which says it lets you add excessive addons.[3]

This Improved Machine Core recipe is added by the pack, so it is not the mod default.

The mod's language file lists several addon blocks: Acceptor, Burst, Capacitor, Efficiency and Fluid addons, plus a Machine Addon Extender and an Addon Splicer. The sources here do not describe what each addon does to a machine.[3]

    Processing machines

Ore processing is spread over several machines. These are the recipe types in the pack that make Oritech items, with how many recipes each one has:[4]

The pack adds its own refinery recipe, shown below, which is where Heavy Oil, Light Naphtha and Sulfuric Acid come from.[4]

This refinery recipe is added by the pack, so it is not the mod default.

      One material, many routes: adamant

Adamant is a good example of the multiple-routes design. You can make the dust in a pulverizer or a fragment forge, then smelt or blast it into an ingot. You can also make the ingot in a foundry, or get it from a Productive Bees centrifuge recipe for adamant honeycomb. The pack also adds an ore hammer recipe through AllTheOres that turns an adamant ingot back into dust.[4]

      Foundry (oritech)

        Recipe id: oritech:foundry/alloy/adamant

The foundry route to an adamant ingot.

        Pipes, power and logistics

Oritech has energy, fluid and item pipes, and there is only one tier of each. Pipe blocks only get block entities where they are needed, for example where they connect to machines, and the networks are cached. Network updates are only sent when needed. All of this is meant to keep large factories fast.[1]

The language file also lists framed pipe variants, pipe ducts, an Energy Transmission Pole, framed superconductors and an Item Filter. Drones can carry items across long distances, and there is a Drone Port block. Power comes from many generator types, from burning fossil fuels to farming biofuel. The language file lists a Basic Generator, Fuel Generator, Lava Generator, Bio Generator and Big Solar Panel.[1][3]

Other mods plug into Oritech's materials in this pack: Fluxite through Applied Energistics 2, Energite Ingot through Powah!, and Plutonium Dust through an Oritech laser.[4]

The particle accelerator is built from a linear motor, guide rings and sensors. The language file names the Particle Accelerator Linear Motor, Particle Accelerator Guide Ring and Particle Accelerator Sensor. Collisions are their own recipe type, and the Enderic Compound collision is shown below.[3][4]

                Bedrock extractor and resource nodes

Renewable metals come from the bedrock extractor in the late game. Naturally spawned resource nodes feed it, and oil wells are there to push you into building auxiliary bases and hauling items back to a central hub. In the pack, the bedrock extractor has a nickel recipe that outputs Raw Nickel.[1][4]

The pack changes the nickel and platinum ores. The overworld ore_nickel and ore_platinum biome modifiers are replaced in the pack with a condition that never passes, so Oritech's own nickel and platinum veins from those modifiers do not generate here.[5][6][7][8]

The pack also rewrites the common resource node feature. Its nodes are copper (weight 3), iron, nickel and coal (weight 2 each), with a node ore chance of 0.4 and an oil overlay. The mod's own version also has optional tin, zinc and aluminum nodes, and those entries are not in the pack's version. The pack's boulders use the AllTheOres deepslate nickel ore instead of Oritech's.[9][10]

Rare nodes have a node ore chance of 0.2 and a fuel overlay. The pack's list is diamond (weight 2), gold, emerald, uranium and platinum, and the mod's optional iridium, tungsten and titanium entries are not in it.[11][12]

Common nodes generate in the overworld using a rarity filter with a chance of 350. Oil springs also use a rarity filter with a chance of 350 in the overworld, and 120 in biomes that have desert pyramids.[13][14][15][16][17][18]

Unverified Which other Oritech recipes the pack changes is not shown in the sources here. Those changes live in the pack's KubeJS server scripts, whose contents are not included, and the ingredient lists of the machine recipes above are not shown either.

How do you progress through Oritech?

                4 parts

This is how the Oritech material chain runs in this pack, grouped by the machine that makes each thing. The sources show which machine makes what, but not ingredient lists, so recipe cards are used where the exact in-pack recipe matters.[4]

                Raw materials

Oritech adds resource nodes to the world. The common node type can hold copper, iron, nickel and coal nodes, with a node ore chance of 0.4. The rare type can hold diamond, gold, emerald, uranium and platinum nodes, with a node ore chance of 0.2.[9][11]

The bedrock extractor has recipes for Raw Nickel, Raw Platinum and Raw Uranium. The fragment forge turns iron ore into raw iron plus Raw Nickel, and the compat recipes do the same for iridium and osmium.[4][19]

Metal clumps get split by the centrifuge. An Iron Clump gives an Iron Gem and Small Nickel Dust, a Copper Clump gives a Copper Gem and Small Gold Dust, and a Gold Clump gives a Gold Gem and Small Copper Dust.[4]

                Mid and late game machines

The assembler makes the Basic Battery, the Enderic Lens and Clay Catalyst Beads. The Advanced Battery has a centrifuge fluid recipe. The refinery makes the Reinforced Carbon Sheet, and the centrifuge makes Carbon Fibre Strands.[4][20]

The atomic forge makes the Advanced Computing Engine, the Super AI Chip and the Heisenberg Compensator, which has two recipes.[4][21]

                  Recipe id: oritech:atomicforge/compensator

One of the two Heisenberg Compensator recipes.

Particle collision recipes make Enderic Compound, Fluxite, Overcharged Crystal and Platinum Dust. The particle accelerator parts, such as the Particle Accelerator Guide Ring and the Particle Accelerator Sensor, have normal crafting recipes.[4][22][23]

Lasers make Fluxite and Plutonium Dust. Fluxite can also be made in an Applied Energistics 2 charger or by Powah! energizing.[4]

                  What this pack changed

The pack adds its own shaped recipes for the Improved Machine Core and the Machine Addon Extender. Check these cards rather than the mod's defaults.[4]

How does Oritech work with other mods?

                  3 parts

The links between Oritech and the rest of the pack that the recipes and scripts confirm are small but useful: bees from Productive Bees, a couple of ore recipes that mix AllTheOres metals with Oritech's own, and one fluid tag.[4][24]

                  Productive Bees

The pack has Productive Bees conversion recipes that start from Oritech items. Each one takes a single Oritech item and gives an Oritech-themed bee type: Sheol Fire, Strange Matter, Sulfuric Acid and Uranite Crystal.[4]

                  AllTheOres

Oritech's fragment forge has recipes that give you AllTheOres raw metals together with Oritech's Raw Nickel. One gives Raw Iridium and the other gives Raw Osmium, and each also returns raw nickel.[4]

                      Oil tag

The pack's own script adds Oritech's oil fluid to the common fluid tag c:fuels/crude_oil, so it counts as crude oil for anything that reads that tag.[24]

What changed in Oritech between versions?

                      5 parts

This pack ships Oritech 2.0.0-exp11, and Oritech has been in the pack since All the Mods 11 0.3.0-beta or earlier. Below are the notable changes from the mod's own changelogs, from the 2.0.0 line up to the version you have now.[25]

                      2.0.0-exp1: the big rewrite

                      • Updated to 26.1.2, and the mod is no longer multiplatform. It is NeoForge only, and Architectury API is no longer required.[26]
                      • Everything was rewritten to use NeoForge-native events and methods where applicable, and the whole processing logic moved to the new transaction API.[26]
                      • Player augmentations now use a custom datapack type and are no longer recipe driven.[26]
                      • The Schrodingers safe now uses NeoForge data maps instead of tags.[26]

                      2.0.0-exp2 and exp3

                      • exp2 added the smart splitter block and JEI search aliases for some blocks.[27]
                      • exp2 also merged some changes from the 1.21.1 branch: reactor alarm thresholds, particle accelerator improvements and some bugfixes. It fixed crafting recipes being in the wrong namespace too.[27]
                      • exp3 made drone port energy usage configurable.[28]
                      • exp3 fixed multi-slot inputs (the assembler is the example given) not always working, refinery catalysts not being used, and biomass recipes.[28]

                      2.0.0-exp4: recipe format change

Watch out: exp4 improved recipe handling and changed the recipe JSON format. The changelog says this breaks all custom recipes.[29]
                      • Added config options for different core levels, and 3rd person rendering for the portable railgun.[29]
                      • Fixed wrong biomass recipes, the tree cutter only outputting into its first slot, solar panel output, and a Schrodingers safe crash when outputting RF.[29]

                      2.0.0-exp5 and exp6

                      • exp5 added a fluid tag to configure which fluids the pump treats as empty, and a custom JEI screen for the atomic forge.[30]
                      • exp5 now stores machine positions as relative positions and adds self-healing support. The changelog says this should improve compatibility with machines being moved.[30]
                      • exp5 removed the unneeded Oritech copper nugget.[30]
                      • exp5 fixed the arcane catalyst being limited to 550 souls, Oritech machines not working properly with custom data components, an aux addon crash on centrifuges on the last craft, and the block destroyer mishandling empty stacks.[30]
                      • exp6 fixed controller block state usage cycles on machine load and potential transform issues with the tainted refinery.[31]

                      2.0.0-exp11: current version

                      • Fixed addons not being buildable on machines with custom shapes.[32]
                      • The fluid toggle on destroyer block screens is now only visible when quarry addons are installed.[32]
