Applied Energistics 2 is a mod in All the Mods 11 0.12.0-beta, where it is version 26.1.13-beta. AE2: A popular automation and storage mod (Summary from the mod's Modrinth page.)
Stuck? Why it might not be working
- AE2 autocrafting: the job sits on Scheduled and never craftsScheduled means patterns the CPU has queued but not yet pushed to a machine; Crafting means outputs already pushed and still awaited. A job frozen on Scheduled is a push that keeps failing, or an output that never came back, and AE2 shows no message for either. It retries forever, so waiting will not fix it unless the cause was a power or channel dip that has since come back.Written for other versions than All the Mods 11 0.12.0-beta ships. What is Applied Energistics 2?
2 parts
Applied Energistics 2, or AE2, is a tech mod all about storage and logistics. Instead of a massive room full of chests, you build a compact ME Network: a digital storage system where your items live inside the network and you can search and grab them from a terminal. ME stands for Matter Energy, and the whole mod has a futuristic theme of turning matter into energy and back again.[1][2][3]
All the Mods 11 0.8.0-beta ships Applied Energistics 2 version 26.1.10-beta.[4]
What it does
- Digital storage: items are stored inside storage cells, which come in 5 tiers with increasing capacity, and a network can hold vast amounts of storage in a tiny space.[1][2]
- Autocrafting: with a single click, your system can craft a whole complex crafting chain, including all the prerequisites. It can also keep certain items in stock and craft more when you run low. It works with fluids too.[3][5]
- Networking and channels: devices on the same network talk to each other, but channels limit how many devices one cable can carry, so you'll need to plan your builds.[1]
- Spatial storage: you can store a whole region of the world, including its blocks, items and entities, inside a spatial storage cell and release it later.[1]
AE2 is for you if you love automating processes and managing resources efficiently. It's designed to work with the other mods in a pack and automate them, which makes it a great fit for a big pack like this one. Be ready for some depth, though: ME works very differently from other storage systems and can take a little out-of-the-box thinking.[1][2][3]
How you get started
Your AE2 journey begins at a meteorite. Mine into its center to collect certus quartz and budding certus blocks. At the very center you'll find a Mysterious Cube, and breaking it gives you all 4 inscriber presses. From there you grow certus quartz, make Fluix, and use the Inscriber to produce the three types of processor. With those in hand, you can build your first basic ME system for simple, searchable storage, and then move on to autocrafting.[2]
How do you get started with Applied Energistics 2?
5 parts
Applied Energistics 2 is all about moving your stuff into a searchable digital storage network, and eventually autocrafting. Getting there takes a few steps: find a meteorite, grow certus quartz, make processors, and then build your first ME system. Let's go through them in order.[1][6]
Step 1: Find a meteorite
Everything starts at a meteorite. They're fairly common and leave massive holes in the terrain, so you've probably already flown or walked past one. If you haven't, you can craft a Meteorite Compass, which points toward the nearest Mysterious Cube.[6][7]
- Mine into the center of the meteorite. You'll find certus quartz clusters, certus quartz buds, budding certus blocks of various types, and a Mysterious Cube.[6]
- Grab the certus quartz clusters and any certus quartz blocks you find.[6]
- You can pick up the budding certus blocks too, but without silk touch they drop by 1 tier.[6]
- Mine the Mysterious Cube in the center to get all 4 inscriber presses. You'll need these later.[6]
Step 2: Growth Accelerators first
Certus quartz buds sprout from budding certus blocks, a lot like amethyst. If you break a bud before it's finished growing, you only get one Certus Quartz Dust. Wait for a fully grown cluster and it drops four Certus Quartz Crystal, and Fortune increases that number.[6]
On their own, buds grow very slowly. A powered Growth Accelerator placed next to the budding block speeds this up massively, so make a few of these as your very first priority.[6][7]

Step 3: The Charger and Fluix
You need a Charger to make Charged Certus Quartz Crystals. The Wooden Crank works here too: attach it to the charger to power it by hand.[6][7]

Charged certus is also how you make Fluix Crystal, which you'll need a lot of. You make Fluix by throwing charged certus together with other materials into water. Check the In-World Transformation view in JEI for the details.[6][7]
Step 4: Inscriber and processors
Remember those presses from the Mysterious Cube? They go in the Inscriber to make the three types of processor. Make a few of each, because your first ME system needs them.[6]

The inscriber is sided, much like a vanilla furnace. Items inserted from the top or bottom go into the top or bottom slots, and items inserted from the side or back go into the center slot. You pull results out from the side or back. You can rotate it with a Certus Quartz Wrench to make hopper automation easier.[6]
Step 5: Your first ME storage
ME (Matter Energy) storage keeps your items inside other items called storage cells, which come in 5 tiers. A cell only works inside an ME Chest or an ME Drive. The ME Chest is pretty situational, so to really get the most out of AE2 you'll want a proper ME network.[6]

Your very first system is simple: no autocrafting and no logistics, just nice searchable storage. It's built around one ME Drive, a few cables, and a few storage cells. The cables can be glass, covered or smart, but not dense. For cells, the 4k size gives you a good mix of capacity and types.[2]

How does Applied Energistics 2 work?
9 parts
Applied Energistics 2 is all about building an ME network: a group of devices joined by cables or full-block machines that share storage, energy and channels. Once you understand networks, channels, energy and network storage, the rest of the mod clicks into place. Everything below matches how the mod runs in this version of the pack.[1][8][9]
Networks and devices
A network is any group of devices linked by blocks that can pass channels, such as cables or full-block machines like the Charger, the ME Interface or the ME Drive. Even a single cable technically counts as a network. For devices with a network function, like an interface pushing to storage or a drive acting as storage, the physical position doesn't matter at all. Only what they're connected to matters. A Network Tool shows every component on a network, which makes it the quickest way to check whether something is connected where it shouldn't be.[8]
A device is a network component that does something related to the network itself. Almost all of them need a channel. The notable exception is the Level Emitter.[9]
Some devices and components can share a block with a cable as subparts, which keeps builds compact. Shift-right-click with a Certus Quartz Wrench or a Network Tool to break off a single subpart, or just the cable, without destroying everything in that block.[10]
Channels
Channels work like USB ports. Every device that uses networked storage or services takes one channel. Standard cables, most machines and full-block devices carry up to 8 channels. Dense cables carry up to 32. The only other things that can carry 32 are the ME P2P Tunnel and the Quantum Network Bridge. Smart cables display the path and usage of channels right on the cable, so you can see where they're going.[11]
On a network with an ME Controller, channels route in 3 steps. First they take the shortest path through adjacent machines to the nearest normal cable. From there they take the shortest path to the nearest dense cable, and then along the dense cable to the controller. Because they always take the shortest path, one cable can end up overloaded while another sits empty, and some devices won't get a channel.[11]
A network without a controller is ad-hoc. It supports up to 8 channel-using devices, and if you go over that, all of its channel-using devices shut down. On an ad-hoc network, smart cables show the channel count for the whole network instead of per cable.[11]
- Build your network like a tree: dense cables branching from the controller, regular cables branching from the dense cables, and devices in clusters of 8 or fewer on each regular cable.[11]
- Avoid loops and ambiguous paths. Use colored cables, cable anchors and tunnels to force channels along the route you want.[11]
- Watch out for full-block devices placed in the middle of a line. A drive right next to the controller acts like a normal cable and bottlenecks everything past it down to 8 channels.[11]
The pack leaves general.channels set to DEFAULT, so channel limits work exactly as described above. The other allowed modes are INFINITE, X2, X3 and X4. Operators can check the current mode with /ae2 channelmode or change it with /ae2 channelmode followed by the mode. Changing it in-game reboots every existing grid.[11][12]
Energy
Every network has a single shared energy pool. Devices pull from it, and energy acceptors, controllers and vibration chambers add to it. Because storage and distribution are network-wide, there are no transfer rate limits: devices can draw as much as they need and acceptors can take energy in at functionally unlimited speed. You're only limited by how much the network can store. Right-click the network with a Network Tool, or right-click the controller, to see its energy stats.[13]
AE2 runs on its own unit, AE. Energy Acceptors and controllers convert Forge Energy into AE at 2 FE = 1 AE, and this conversion only goes one way. The pack keeps powerRatios.forgeEnergy at the mod default of 0.5, so that ratio holds here. Controller faces are usually better spent on channels than on power input.[12][13]
AE2 can also generate a little power on its own, although it's designed to be fed by other tech mods with better generation. In this pack the Vibration Chamber makes 5 AE per fuel burn tick and adjusts its output between 4 and 40 AE/t depending on whether the energy is being used. For reference, coal is 1,600 burn ticks, a block of coal is 16,000 and a lava bucket is 20,000. The Crystal Resonance Generator produces 20 AE per tick passively. All of these are the mod defaults.[12][13]
A network can't take in or spend more energy in one tick than it can store. Every cable, machine or part adds a built-in buffer of 25 AE, which the pack keeps at default. A controller holds 8,000 AE internally. An Energy Cell stores 200k AE, and one is enough for most networks. A Dense Energy Cell stores 1.6M AE, which is useful for running off stored power or handling big spatial storage setups.[12][13]
Storage cells: bytes and types
Storage cells are limited by both bytes and types. Each item takes 1 bit, so 8 items fill 1 byte and a full stack of 64 takes 8 bytes, no matter how the item normally stacks. For fluid cells, it's 8 buckets per byte. Every unique item counts as a type, and each type costs some bytes upfront. Every cell tier holds 63 types.[14]
Item cells range from 1,024 bytes on the 1k cell to 262,144 bytes on the 256k cell. Because of that upfront cost per type, a cell holding just 1 type fits about twice as much as one using all 63. Bigger cells don't give you extra types, so smaller cells stay useful all game. One ME Drive full of cells gives you 630 types.[14]
Import, export and priority
- ME Import Buses push things into network storage.[15]
- ME Export Buses pull things out of network storage.[15]
- ME Interfaces do both, depending on how their slots are configured.[15][16]
- Terminals push and pull when you insert or take items, or when they refill the crafting grid.[15]
- ME Storage Buses turn the inventory they face into network storage, so other devices push to and pull from them.[15]
You set priorities with the wrench icon at the top right of some GUIs. Incoming items go to the highest-priority storage first, and extraction takes from the lowest priority first. When two storages share a priority, the one that already holds the item wins, and whitelisted cells count as already holding it. The result is that high-priority storage fills up while low-priority storage empties.[7][15]
Autocrafting
- Something sends a crafting request. That can be you clicking an item in the terminal, or an export bus or interface fitted with a Crafting Card. Use your pick-block key, usually middle-mouse, to request items you already have in stock.[17]
- The system works out every ingredient and sub-step and stores the job in a crafting CPU.[17]
- An ME Pattern Provider holding the right pattern pushes the ingredients into the adjacent inventory. For crafting-table recipes that's a Molecular Assembler. For processing recipes it can be any machine or setup.[17]
- The result comes back through an import bus, an interface or the pattern provider itself. If it's needed for a later step, the crafting CPU holds onto it.[17]
- Crafting, smithing and stonecutting patterns all run on a pattern provider with a Molecular Assembler next to it, and they can share the same setup.[17]
- Processing patterns just say that if these ingredients get pushed out, these results will eventually come back. That makes them work with almost any modded machine or furnace setup.[17]
- Multiple pattern providers with identical patterns run in parallel.[5]
The most general form of pattern is a Level Emitter with a crafting card. It emits redstone to trigger a craft and doesn't care about ingredients at all, which makes it perfect for switching infinite farms on and off. It's also the way to handle recursive recipes like 1 cobblestone = 2 cobblestone, which normal autocrafting can't process.[5]

Pattern providers also have a blocking mode. With it on, they won't push new ingredients while the target inventory still contains inputs from a pattern. Crafting CPUs can be limited to player requests only, automation requests only, or both.[7]
Subnetworks
A subnetwork is simply a separate network that supports your main one. You'll mostly use them for two things: controlling which storage a device can reach, so an import bus in a pipe setup doesn't dump items into your main cells, and saving channels on your main network. The Quartz Fiber shares energy between networks without connecting them, which makes it ideal for powering subnets. Keep a close eye on full-block devices, because they pass the network connection through and can accidentally merge your subnet into the main network.[8][18]
Certus quartz growth
Certus buds grow on budding certus blocks, which you first find in meteorites. They come in 4 tiers: Flawless, Flawed, Chipped and Damaged. A fully grown cluster drops four Certus Quartz Crystal, and Fortune increases that. An unfinished bud drops just one dust. Every time a bud grows a stage, imperfect budding blocks may degrade one tier. Throw a budding or certus quartz block into water with charged certus quartz to repair or create budding blocks. Flawless ones never degrade, but you can't mine them, even with Silk Touch. Spatial storage can still move them.[7][19]
Buds grow very slowly on their own, so build Growth Accelerators next to your budding blocks early on. In this pack an accelerator ticks every 10 ticks, the mod default. If you can't afford an Energy Acceptor or Vibration Chamber yet, stick a Wooden Crank on the end of the accelerator and power it by hand. The crank also works on a Charger.[7][12][19]

Unverified The pack sets worldGen.spawnFlawlessOnly to true in the AE2 config. The name suggests meteorites only generate flawless budding certus, but the sources don't describe what this option actually does.
Spatial IO
Spatial IO swaps a defined volume of the world with an identically-sized volume in the spatial storage dimension. Pylons define that volume: it's the bounding box of the pylons, shrunk by 1 block in every direction. The smallest setup is 3x3x3, which gives a 1x1x1 volume. Every pylon has to be at least 2 blocks long and on the same network, and each network can only run one spatial setup, so a subnetwork is recommended. Put a spatial cell in the Spatial IO Port and give it a redstone pulse to trigger the swap.[20]
A cell's dimensions get locked the first time you use it and can never be reset. A 16^3 cell can store any size up to 16x16x16, but only one fixed shape per cell. The energy cost is paid all at once and grows fast for large, sparsely filled pylon shells. The pack keeps the spatial power settings at their defaults, with a multiplier of 1250 and an exponent of 1.35.[12][20]
How do you progress through Applied Energistics 2?
5 parts
Applied Energistics 2 in this pack plays like standard AE2. Every AE2 recipe the pack's recipe dump shows in detail is marked as the mod's own recipe, including the core network blocks, crystal processing machines, upgrade cards and cables. That means you're building from AE2's normal recipes rather than pack-specific replacements. The recipe cards below show exactly what each one needs in this version.[21]
Unverified There's no quest line guiding AE2 in this pack, and none of the sources give a tier-by-tier order. The grouping below is a practical way to organise the pieces, not an official progression path.

Automating certus quartz
AE2's guide walks through three certus farm designs: the Simple Certus Farm, the Semi-Auto Certus Farm and the Advanced Certus Farm. The Advanced Certus Farm is the Semi-Auto design fully integrated into your ME system. Instead of stockpiling budding blocks and refreshing them by hand, it uses Charger Automation and Throwing-In-Water Automation to handle that for you.[22][23]
- The cluster breaker uses an ME Annihilation Plane, which can be enchanted with Fortune, plus a storage bus filtered to Certus Quartz Crystal. Because of that filter, the plane only breaks Certus Quartz Clusters.[22][23]
- The block breaker uses a second Annihilation Plane that must have Silk Touch, plus a storage bus filtered to Certus Quartz Block. It removes the depleted budding block once it becomes a plain Certus Quartz Block.[22][23]
- An ME Interface on the main network keeps 1 Flawed Budding Certus Quartz in stock. With a Crafting Card installed, it can request new budding blocks from your autocrafting.[22][23]
Upgrade cards
Upgrade cards change how AE2 devices and machines behave, for example making them faster, adding filter slots or enabling redstone control. Every card is crafted from either a basic or an advanced card base, so make those first.[24]

- The Capacity Card adds filter slots to import, export and storage buses, and to formation planes.[24]

- The Fuzzy Card lets filters match by damage level and/or ignore item NBT.[24]

How does Applied Energistics 2 work with other mods?
3 parts
In this pack, Applied Energistics 2 ties into Productive Bees. Instead of relying only on your normal AE2 processing, you can run a bee line that pumps out Fluix materials for your ME system.[21]
Getting a Fluix Bee
The first step is a bee conversion recipe that uses a Fluix Pearl to turn a bee into the Fluix bee. Check the recipe below to see exactly which bee you need to start with.[21]
Bee Conversion (productivebees)
Recipe id: productivebees:bee_conversion/appliedenergistics2/fluix_bee
Bee conversion using a Fluix Pearl
Centrifuging Fluix Honeycombs
Once your Fluix bees are producing, put their honeycombs through a Productive Bees centrifuge. The centrifuge recipe outputs Fluix Crystal, Fluix Dust and Wax. That gives you a steady source of Fluix without making every crystal by hand.[21]
Centrifuge (productivebees)
Recipe id: productivebees:centrifuge/ae2/honeycomb_fluix
Centrifuge outputs for the Fluix honeycomb
Unverified The drop chances and amounts for each centrifuge output are not confirmed here, so check the recipe viewer in game before you plan a big Fluix setup around the bees. This site does hold All the Mods 11's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.
Automating Other Mods' Machines
AE2 can also run machines from other mods through processing patterns. A processing pattern just says that if a pattern provider pushes certain ingredients into an adjacent inventory, the ME system will get the result back at some point. That is how you autocraft with almost any modded machine.[17]
The autocrafting algorithm cannot handle recursive recipes, such as duplication recipes where an item turns into more of itself. Keep that in mind before you try to automate those kinds of machine recipes with plain patterns.[17]
Unverified AE2 can autocraft extra material types such as Mekanism gases when the right addons are installed. Whether this pack includes those addons is not confirmed.
Which Applied Energistics 2 config options matter?
4 parts
Good news if you already know AE2: this pack keeps every numeric setting in the common config at the mod's default value. Nothing is buffed or nerfed, so power costs, tick rates, battery sizes and wireless range all behave as they would in plain AE2. Here are the options that affect your builds the most, with the exact values this pack uses.[12]
Channels
The big one is general.channels, which controls how many channels your cables can carry. The pack leaves it on DEFAULT. The other allowed values are INFINITE, X2, X3 and X4, so channel planning still matters here. Channels limit how many devices you can connect to a single cable, so plan your network with that in mind.[1][12]
Power
- powerRatios.forgeEnergy is 0.5, the mod default, and powerRatios.usageMultiplier is 1, so your devices draw their normal amount of power.[12]
- powerRatios.crystalResonanceGeneratorRate is 20, meaning a Crystal Resonance Generator makes 20 energy per tick.[12]
- powerRatios.gridEnergyStoragePerNode is 25, which is how much energy the grid's internal buffer holds for each node attached to your network.[12]
- Both P2P taxes, powerRatios.p2pTunnelEnergyTax and powerRatios.p2pTunnelTransportTax, are 0.025. For energy tunnels, that is a fraction of the energy you send through them.[12]
The Vibration Chamber is unchanged too. It makes 5 AE per fuel burn tick (vibrationChamber.baseEnergyPerFuelTick). It speeds up to a maximum of 40 AE/t when all of its output is being used, and slows down to a minimum of 4 AE/t when energy is being wasted. For reference, coal burns for 1,600 ticks and a lava bucket for 20,000.[12]
Wireless
Wireless access points use the default wireless.wirelessBaseRange of 16 and wireless.wirelessBaseCost of 8. The booster range multiplier and the terminal drain multiplier are both 1. The wireless terminal's battery (battery.wirelessTerminal) holds 1,600,000, also the default.[12]
Crafting and automation
- crafting.growthAccelerator is 10, the number of ticks between two Crystal Growth Accelerator ticks.[12]
- battery.chargerChargeRate is 1, so the Charger runs at normal speed.[12]
- crafting.annihilationPlaneSkyDustGeneration is enabled. An Annihilation Plane placed face up at the maximum world height passively generates sky stone.[12]
- The Matter Condenser needs 256 for matter balls and 256,000 for a singularity, the default values.[12]
- worldGen.spawnPressesInMeteorites and worldGen.spawnFlawlessOnly are both set to true.[12]
Unverified The config file doesn't list mod defaults for the true/false options (block damage, sky dust generation, worldgen settings), so it's unconfirmed whether the pack changed any of them. What spawnFlawlessOnly does exactly isn't described in the sources either.
