Silent Gear Metalworks is a mod in All the Mods 10 8.3, where it is version 1.21.1-1.5.0. Adds compatibility between Silent Gear and Productive Metalworks (Summary from the mod's Modrinth page.)

What is Silent Gear Metalworks?

1 part

Silent Gear Metalworks adds a set of casts for making Silent Gear gear. This pack includes version 1.21.1-1.5.0 of the mod, and it has been in the pack since 2.47 or earlier.[1]

The pack's "Silent Gear" quest chapter is where you'll meet these casts. It has a quest for each cast, and every one of them unlocks after the "Casts" quest. If you want a guided route through the mod, follow that chapter.[2]

What the casts cover

The casts cover weapons, tools and ranged gear, including the Sword Cast, Pickaxe Cast, Bow Cast and Shield Cast. They also cover armor pieces such as the Helmet Cast and Boots Cast, plus accessories like the Ring Cast and Necklace Cast.[2]

There are also casts for the bigger digging tools: the Hammer Cast is flagged as 3x3 mining and the Excavator Cast as 3x3 digging. The Paxel Cast combines pickaxe, axe and shovel, and the Tool Rod Cast is for making your own handle.[2]

The quest text also gives some handy comparisons. A dagger has low damage but very high attack speed. A katana hits harder than a sword but is slower. A spear does less damage than a sword but has longer reach.[2]

The Tip Cast is for the Tip Upgrade, which raises a tool's mining level. The quest's example is putting a Diamond Tip Upgrade on an Iron Pickaxe so it can mine Obsidian and gets a stat boost.[2]

Unverified The sources I have don't show where Silent Gear Metalworks sits in the pack's overall progression, or whether it is part of the ATM Star path. Treat both as unconfirmed.

How do you get started with Silent Gear Metalworks?

2 parts

Silent Gear Metalworks connects Silent Gear's tool parts to Productive Metalworks. The mod's own tooltip sums it up: all metal and gem tool parts require casting in a foundry from Productive Metalworks. So your first goal is to make casts, which are reusable molds for the part you want.[3]

Every cast in this pack is made the same way. You cast the matching Silent Gear part with molten steel, and any fluid in the molten steel group works. The pack changed all of these cast recipes, so don't rely on what you remember from the mod's defaults.[4]

What to cast first

The pack's Silent Gear quest chapter has one quest per cast, all unlocked after the Casts quest. Work through them roughly in this order.[2]

  1. Start with the Tool Rod Cast. It's the "Your own Handle!" quest, a quest in "Silent Gear", and nearly every tool needs a rod.[2]
  2. Next, make the Pickaxe Cast (a quest in "Silent Gear"). A pickaxe is the first tool you'll want for mining.[2]
  3. Then make the Sword Cast (a quest in "Silent Gear"). The quest describes the sword as the basic one, with reliable damage and reliable speed.[2]
  4. Add the Axe Cast (a quest in "Silent Gear") and the Shovel Cast (a quest in "Silent Gear") to cover the rest of the basic tools.[2]
  5. Finish with the Tip Cast (a quest in "Silent Gear"). The quest says a tip upgrade raises a tool's mining level. Its example is an Iron Pickaxe with a Diamond Tip Upgrade, which can then mine Obsidian and gets a stat boost.[2]

Tip: Once you've got the basics, the same chapter has casts for armor, bows, hammers, excavators and more. The quest text gives short hints, for example that the Katana Cast makes a blade with more damage than a sword but slower swings.[2]

Unverified The sources don't say how to get the foundry or the molten steel, or how to craft the Silent Gear parts you cast (rod, pickaxe head and so on). Check the Productive Metalworks and Silent Gear pages for those steps.

How does Silent Gear Metalworks work?

4 parts

In this pack, the recipes that make Silent Gear Metalworks items (molten fluids, Uru Metal and so on) all run through Productive Metalworks: melting, alloying and casting. So the mechanics here are really a fluid-based metalworking chain, and that's what I'll walk you through.[4]

Watch out: Silent Gear's metal and gem tool parts need a foundry. The blueprint tooltip says all metal and gem tool parts require casting in a foundry from Productive Metalworks, so plan for one before you start on gear.[3]

Melting gems and dusts

Everything starts as a molten fluid. The pack has melting recipes that turn gems and dusts into this mod's molten fluids. Any item in the matching gem or dust tag works, so you aren't locked to one mod's version of the item. These recipes are marked as changed by the pack.[4]

Alloying fluids

The alloys are made by combining several molten fluids with the Productive Metalworks fluid alloying recipe type. Each recipe asks for fluids from tags rather than one specific fluid, and the pack changed the alloy recipes listed here. Later alloys use earlier ones as ingredients, so make the earlier alloys first.[4]

Tyrian Steel feeds into the Uru Metal alloy below.

The top of the chain is Molten Uru Metal. The pack's version of this alloy takes molten Allthemodium, Unobtainium and Vibranium, plus fluids from the meat, heavy core and Tyrian steel tags.[4]

Casting Uru Metal

Once you have molten Uru Metal, you cast it. Ingots and nuggets use item casting, so you need the matching cast: the Ingot Cast for an Uru Metal Ingot and the Nugget Cast for an Uru Metal Nugget. A full Uru Metal Block uses block casting and needs only the fluid. These casting recipes accept any fluid in the molten Uru Metal tag, and the pack changed them.[4]

How do you progress through Silent Gear Metalworks?

4 parts

In this pack, Silent Gear Metalworks progression is a chain of casts and then a chain of alloys. The quest book covers the casts. Every quest in the "Silent Gear" chapter comes after the "Casts" quest, and each one asks you to get a single cast item.[2]

Tier 1: the casts

The pack changed every cast recipe. Each cast is made by item casting, using the matching Silent Gear part and molten steel. The Sword Cast is the example here, and the other casts follow the same pattern with their own part.[4]

Sword CastChanged by the pack

Item Casting (productivemetalworks)

Recipe id: sgearmetalworks:casting/sword_cast

The other casts use the same item casting method with a different Silent Gear part.

The quest chapter gives you hints about what each cast is for:[2]

The rest of the chapter has quests for the armor casts (helmet, chestplate, leggings and boots), the ranged casts (bow, crossbow, slingshot and arrow), the jewelry casts (ring, necklace and bracelet), and utility casts such as the Tool Rod Cast and Shears Cast.[2]

Tier 2: the alloy chain

The mod's metals are made by alloying molten metals, and the pack changed all of these recipes. Molten Crimson Steel and Molten Azure Electrum are separate alloys.[4]

Melting gems and dusts

The pack also changed the melting recipes. Gems such as ruby, sapphire, topaz and white diamond melt into their molten forms. Ingots and dusts of the mod's metals, such as crimson iron, azure silver and tyrian steel, melt into the matching molten metal as well.[4]

How does Silent Gear Metalworks work with other mods?

3 parts

Silent Gear Metalworks links Silent Gear to the casting setup from Productive Metalworks. In this pack it also reaches into the Allthemodium metals for its own alloy, Uru Metal. The recipes below are all marked as changed by the pack, so don't expect stock mod behavior.[4]

Silent Gear parts and casts

Each Silent Gear part has a matching cast from this mod, and you make the cast with Productive Metalworks item casting using any molten steel. That covers casts like the Axe Cast, Sword Cast and Tip Cast.[4]

The link also works the other way. A finished cast can be turned back into the matching Silent Gear part, for example the Axe Head, using this mod's own gear casting recipe type.[4]

This applies across the Silent Gear part list, including the Tool Rod (via the Tool Rod Cast) and the Tip Upgrade upgrade (via the Tip Cast).[4]

Quests

The pack's Silent Gear quest chapter has one quest per cast, all coming after the Casts quest. Each one asks you to get the cast item, such as a quest in "Silent Gear" for the Tip Cast and a quest in "Silent Gear" for the Sword Cast.[2]

The Tip Cast quest also explains what the Tip Upgrade is for: it raises a tool's mining level, so an Iron Pickaxe with a Diamond Tip Upgrade can mine Obsidian and gets a stat boost.[2]

Uru Metal and the Allthemodium metals

This is where the pack ties the mod to the Allthemodium metals. Molten Uru Metal is an alloy that uses Molten Allthemodium, Molten Unobtainium and Molten Vibranium, along with other fluids from common tags. The recipe below shows the full list.[4]

Which All the Mods 10 quests use Silent Gear Metalworks?

4 parts

The pack has one Silent Gear chapter that covers this mod. Every quest in it asks you to get a single cast, and every one of them unlocks after the quest called Casts. The sources give no order among the cast quests themselves, so you can pick them in any order once Casts is done.[2]

Melee weapon casts

Tool casts

a quest in "Silent Gear" (For when you don't find 3 Diamonds) asks for the Tip Cast. The quest text explains that the Tip Upgrade raises a tool's mining level. For example, an Iron Pickaxe plus 1 Diamond lets you make a Diamond Tip Upgrade. Put it on the pickaxe and it can mine Obsidian, and it also gets a stat boost.[2]
