What is Silent Gear Metalworks?

1 part

Silent Gear Metalworks adds a set of cast items to the pack. The pack ships version 1.21.1-1.4.2 of the mod, and it has been included since All the Mods 10 2.47 or earlier.[1]

The casts cover tools, weapons, armor and accessories. Tools include the Pickaxe Cast, Axe Cast, Shovel Cast and Paxel Cast. Weapons include the Sword Cast, Bow Cast and Crossbow Cast. Armor has a cast for each piece, such as the Helmet Cast and Boots Cast. There are also jewelry casts like the Ring Cast and Necklace Cast.[2]

Where it fits in the quest book

The pack's quest book puts these casts in the "silent_gear" chapter, with one quest per cast. Each quest has a single task: obtain that cast item. For example, a quest in "?" is for the Pickaxe Cast and a quest in "?" is for the Sword Cast.[2]

Every one of these quests comes after the same earlier quest in the chapter, so nothing is chained between the casts. Once that earlier quest is done, you can pick up the cast quests in any order. The quests are untitled in the quest data.[2]

Unverified The sources here do not show what the casts are used for, how they are crafted, or whether the pack changed any recipes or configs for this mod, and they show no use of the mod on the ATM Star path. The in-game recipe viewer is the place to check the exact recipes. This site does hold All the Mods 10's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

How do you get started with Silent Gear Metalworks?

4 parts

The key rule for this mod is on its own tooltip: all metal and gem tool parts require casting in a foundry from Productive Metalworks. So your first goal is not to craft a part by hand. It's to build up a set of casts.[3]

Step 1: Learn what a cast is

Every cast in this pack comes from an item casting recipe that takes the matching Silent Gear part and molten steel. The pack has one for tools, weapons, armor pieces, jewelry and a few extras. Here is Pickaxe Cast as an example:[4]

Pickaxe CastMod recipe

Item Casting (productivemetalworks)

Recipe id: sgearmetalworks:casting/pickaxe_cast

Step 2: Make casts for the parts you want

Start with the tools you will use most, like the pickaxe, axe and shovel. The rod is worth having too, since it is the base for tools.[4]

Tool Rod CastMod recipe

Item Casting (productivemetalworks)

Recipe id: sgearmetalworks:casting/rod_cast

The tool rod cast follows the same casting pattern as the other casts.

Weapons follow the same pattern, such as Sword Cast and Bow Cast. So do armor casts like Helmet Cast and Chestplate Cast.[4]

Sword CastMod recipe

Item Casting (productivemetalworks)

Recipe id: sgearmetalworks:casting/sword_cast

Step 3: Follow the quest book

The pack's silent_gear quest chapter has one quest per cast, and each one has the cast item as its task. They all unlock after the same earlier quest, so you can tackle them in any order. For example, a quest in "?" covers the pickaxe cast, a quest in "?" the sword cast and a quest in "?" the axe cast. The chapter also has quests for the shield, shears, hammer, fishing rod and more.[2]

Tip: A good first checklist: pickaxe, axe, shovel and sword casts, then the tool rod cast. After that, add armor and ranged weapon casts as you need them.[2][4]

Step 4: Uru metal comes later

The mod also adds Uru Metal Ingot, with nugget and block forms. You can convert between them in a crafting grid, melt them into Molten Uru Metal, and cast them back into ingots, nuggets or blocks. Making the molten metal from scratch is an alloying recipe in this pack, so treat it as a later project.[4]

How does Silent Gear Metalworks work?

4 parts

The sources here don't describe any machines added by Silent Gear Metalworks itself. What they do show is that the mod's items run through Productive Metalworks recipes: melting, alloying and casting. The mod supplies the molten fluids, ingots, nuggets and blocks that those recipes work with.[3][4]

Watch out: The mod's blueprint tooltip says all metal and gem tool parts require casting in a foundry from Productive Metalworks. Plan to set up a foundry before you chase Silent Gear parts made from these materials.[3]

Melting

Everything starts by turning a solid into a fluid. The pack uses item melting recipes to turn metal dusts into their molten versions, and gems get the same treatment, each with its own molten fluid.[4]

Alloying

Several of the molten metals aren't made from a single input. You combine other molten fluids with fluid alloying recipes, and the alloys build on each other. Crimson Steel and Azure Electrum both feed into Tyrian Steel, and Tyrian Steel feeds into Uru Metal. Here are the in-pack recipes.[4]

  • 201× any molten blaze
  • 91× any molten gold

The top of the chain: this is the alloying recipe in the pack that produces Molten Uru Metal.

Casting

Once you have molten Uru Metal, you cast it into solid items. Ingots and nuggets use item casting, so you need the matching cast item (an Ingot Cast or a Nugget Cast). Storage blocks use block casting, which takes only the fluid.[4]

Converting between forms

You can also switch between Uru Metal Nugget, Uru Metal Ingot and Uru Metal Block in a normal crafting grid. These conversions are all shapeless recipes, so you don't need the foundry for compacting or splitting.[4]

How do you progress through Silent Gear Metalworks?

4 parts

Silent Gear Metalworks doesn't use numbered tiers in this pack. Progression follows a metal chain, where each alloy unlocks the next, and then a set of tool-part casts you make from molten steel. The quests in the pack cover the casting half of that.[2][4]

Step 1: Melt your raw materials

Everything starts in the melter. The pack has melting recipes that turn gems, dusts, ingots and nuggets into molten fluids. Crimson iron, azure silver, azure electrum, blaze gold, crimson steel and tyrian steel can all be melted from their ingots and nuggets. Many Silent Gear gems can also be melted, including Molten Ruby, Molten Sapphire, Molten Topaz and Molten Black Diamond.[4]

Step 2: Work up the alloy chain

Molten Crimson Steel and Molten Azure Electrum are the first alloys, and Molten Blaze Gold is a side branch. Each in-pack alloying recipe is shown below.[4]

Fluid Alloying (productivemetalworks)

  • 201× any molten blaze
  • 811× any molten crimson iron
  • 101× any molten magma cream

Recipe id: productivemetalworks:alloying/molten_crimson_steel

Fluid Alloying (productivemetalworks)

  • 361× any molten azure silver
  • 101× any molten ender
  • 181× any molten gold

Fluid Alloying (productivemetalworks)

  • 201× any molten blaze
  • 91× any molten gold

Recipe id: productivemetalworks:alloying/molten_blaze_gold

Molten Tyrian Steel sits above crimson steel and azure electrum. The recipe below needs both of them already made.[4]

Fluid Alloying (productivemetalworks)

  • 101× any molten ancient debri
  • 91× any molten azure electrum
  • 91× any molten crimson steel
  • 101× any molten shulker shell

Recipe id: productivemetalworks:alloying/molten_tyrian_steel

Step 3: Uru Metal at the top

Molten Uru Metal is the end of the chain, and its alloying recipe is shown below. Once you have the fluid, you can cast it into Uru Metal Ingot, Uru Metal Nugget or an Uru Metal Block. You can also melt any of them back down.[4]

The quest line: tool-part casts

The pack's silent_gear quest chapter has one quest for each cast in the mod. Each quest's task is a single cast item, and each one unlocks after the same earlier quest, a quest in "?". The order you do them in is up to you. None of these quests has a title in the pack data.[2]

Examples include Pickaxe Cast (a quest in "?"), Sword Cast (a quest in "?"), Helmet Cast (a quest in "?") and Tool Rod Cast (a quest in "?").[2]

Every cast uses the same casting pattern. You cast the matching Silent Gear part with molten steel, and any fluid in the steel tag works. Here is the sword cast as an example. The other casts only swap the part.[4]

Sword CastMod recipe

Item Casting (productivemetalworks)

Recipe id: sgearmetalworks:casting/sword_cast

Tip: Armor, weapons, tools, curios and ranged gear all have their own casts. These include the helmet, chestplate, leggings and boots casts, the bow, crossbow and slingshot casts, and the ring, necklace and bracelet casts. Make the casts for the Silent Gear parts you use most before you chase the higher alloys.[2][4]

How does Silent Gear Metalworks work with other mods?

4 parts

Silent Gear Metalworks ties Silent Gear to Productive Metalworks. It adds casts shaped like Silent Gear tool, armor and jewelry parts. You make them with Productive Metalworks item casting, and you turn them back into parts with the mod's own Silent Gear casting recipes. In this pack, Uru Metal also connects to the Allthemodium metals, and the pack has changed how the Uru parts are cast.[4]

Making casts from Silent Gear parts

To make a cast, you take a Silent Gear part, such as an Axe Head, and cast it with molten steel using Productive Metalworks item casting. The result is the matching cast, here the Axe Cast. The same pattern covers the pickaxe, shovel, hoe, sword, bow, crossbow, armor pieces, jewelry and more.[4]

Every other cast follows the same pattern with its own Silent Gear part.

The recipes also work the other way. A separate Silent Gear Metalworks casting type takes a cast and gives you the Silent Gear part back, for example the Pickaxe Cast to the Pickaxe Head. This also covers the Tip Upgrade, Tool Rod, Trident Prongs and Slingshot Limbs.[4]

Uru Metal and the Allthemodium metals

Molten Uru Metal is made with a Productive Metalworks alloying recipe. It takes molten metals from the Allthemodium family, so you need those flowing before you can make Uru Metal. The recipe block below shows the exact inputs.[4]

Once you have molten Uru Metal, you cast it with Productive Metalworks' Ingot Cast to get an Uru Metal Ingot. With the Nugget Cast you get an Uru Metal Nugget instead.[4]

Uru parts: changed by the pack

The pack has changed the Uru part recipes. Each one uses a Silent Unobtainium Plate together with molten Uru Metal. It gives you an Uru Metal Ingot together with the Silent Gear part. This covers a long list of parts, from the Pickaxe Head to the Mace Core. Treat this as how the pack works, not as the mod's default.[4]

Quests

The "silent_gear" quest chapter uses these casts. Each quest has an item task for one cast and unlocks after the same earlier quest. Examples are a quest in "?" for the Pickaxe Cast and a quest in "?" for the Sword Cast. The quests have no titles in the pack files, so the items are your only guide.[2]

Which All the Mods 10 quests use Silent Gear Metalworks?

2 parts

In this pack, every quest for this mod sits in one chapter called "silent_gear". Each quest asks for a single item: a different cast. None of them have titles, so in the quest book they show up as untitled.[2]

Order

The order is simple. Every one of these quests comes after the same earlier quest, with the ID 711826BBCA832EE2. The sources list no links between the cast quests themselves, so once that earlier quest is done they all open together and you can take the casts in any order you like.[2]

What each quest asks for

Tip: Because all these quests unlock at once, you can work through them in whatever order matches the gear you want to make first.[2]

What changed in Silent Gear Metalworks between versions?

Here's how Silent Gear Metalworks has moved through the All the Mods 10 releases. The pack changelogs only record version bumps, so this is a timeline of which jar shipped when.[5][6][7][8][9][10]

  • All the Mods 10 2.47: Silent Gear Metalworks was added at version 1.21.1-1.2.1.[10]
  • All the Mods 10 3.0: updated from 1.21.1-1.2.1 to 1.21.1-1.3.0.[9]
  • All the Mods 10 3.2: updated from 1.21.1-1.3.0 to 1.21.1-1.3.1.[8]
  • All the Mods 10 4.1: updated from 1.21.1-1.3.1 to 1.21.1-1.4.0.[7]
  • All the Mods 10 4.3: updated from 1.21.1-1.4.0 to 1.21.1-1.4.1.[6]
  • All the Mods 10 4.5: updated from 1.21.1-1.4.1 to 1.21.1-1.4.2.[5]

So the version you get in All the Mods 10 4.5 is 1.21.1-1.4.2, shipped as the file sgearmetalworks-1.21.1-1.4.2.jar.[1]

Unverified What actually changed inside the mod in each of these updates (new features, fixes, or recipe and balance changes) is unverified. No changelogs for the shipped jars are available, and the pack changelogs only list the version numbers.
