What is Refined Types?

1 part

Refined Types is an addon for Refined Storage. It lets you handle three extra resource types in your storage network: FE (energy), Source from Ars Nouveau, and Souls from Industrial Foregoing Souls. You can store them, transfer them, view them, and even autocrafting works with them.[1][2]

If you already run a Refined Storage network for items and fluids, this addon lets you bring FE, Source and Souls into that same network.[1][2]

In this pack

The pack ships Refined Types 1.21.1-0.1.3. It has been in the pack since 4.6 or earlier, so it's a long-standing part of the Refined Storage setup.[3]

You'll meet it in the Refined Storage quest chapter, in the quest "Other Storage Parts" quest. That quest comes after an earlier quest in the chapter and asks you to obtain several storage parts. Three of them come from this mod: 64K Energy Storage Part for Energy, 64B Source Storage Part for Source, and 1K Soul Storage Part for Souls.[2]

Tip: Chemicals are not part of Refined Types. The quest chapter credits the Refined Storage - Mekanism Integration mod for chemical storage, while Refined Types covers Energy, Source and Souls.[2]
Watch out: The project page lists Mana from Botania as planned, not as a supported type. Don't expect Mana storage from this version.[1]

Unverified The sources here do not show whether the ATM Star quest path uses Refined Types, so check the quest book for that.

How do you get started with Refined Types?

3 parts

Refined Types is a Refined Storage addon. It lets your network store FE, Source (from Ars Nouveau) and Souls (from Industrial Foregoing Souls), so you can keep those resources in disks and blocks just like items and fluids.[1]

Every part, disk and block recipe listed for this mod is marked as changed by the pack. Don't trust a recipe you remember from another pack, and use the recipe blocks below instead.[4]

Step 1: Make a starter storage part

Everything starts with a storage part. The quest "Other Storage Parts" quest in the Refined Storage chapter of the quest book points you at three starters: 64K Energy Storage Part for energy, 64B Source Storage Part for Source, and 1K Soul Storage Part for Souls. Pick the resource you want to store first, or make all three.[2]

Step 2: Turn a part into a disk or a block

A part is only a component. To actually store something, you craft it into a disk or a storage block. Disks go in your Disk Drive, which is exactly what the mod's advancements ask you to do. Here is the Soul disk recipe as an example of the disk pattern.[4][5]

If you would rather place storage directly, each part also has a block recipe that uses a Machine Casing. The starter blocks are 64K Energy Storage Block, 64B Source Storage Block and 1K Soul Storage Block.[4]

Step 3: Upgrade when you run out of room

You don't need to start over when a disk or block fills up. Both can be upgraded to a higher tier by combining them with a Storage Part of the same type. Each tier of block in this pack has its own part, so a bigger part is your upgrade path.[4][5]

Tip: Made the wrong type? Use an empty disk while holding it to get its storage part back. An empty block does the same and returns its part and the Machine Casing. It only works when the storage is empty.[5]

How does Refined Types work?

4 parts

Refined Types is an addon for Refined Storage. It adds FE, Source and Souls support to various Refined Storage components, so you can store, transfer, view and autocraft them. Source comes from Ars Nouveau and Souls from Industrial Foregoing Souls. Mana from Botania is listed as planned, not as something you can use yet.[1]

Disks and blocks

Each resource type (Energy, Source and Soul) has a storage disk and a storage block. The mod also has infinite versions of all of these. Their tooltips say they store an infinite amount of FE, Source or Soul.[5]

The mod's advancements point you to the disk route: craft an Energy, Soul or Source Storage Disk and put it in your Disk Drive.[5]

Tiers and upgrading

Storage comes in tiers. The tooltips say a disk or block can be upgraded to a higher tier by combining it with the matching Storage Part (Energy, Soul or Source).[5]

These are the block tiers that show up in the pack's recipe list. The list is partial, because the recipe dump is cut off.[4]

The mod's config tooltips also mention other tiers, such as 8192K, 65536K and 8388608K for Energy, and 8192B, 65536B and 8388608B for Source. The sources here don't show whether those tiers can be crafted in this pack.[5]

Crafting a block

The pack changes the recipe of every storage block in the visible part of the recipe list. Here is one example.[4]

The pack changes this recipe, and the other visible block tiers follow the same pattern with their own Storage Part.

Getting parts back

An empty disk returns its Storage Part when you use it while holding it. An empty block returns its Storage Part and the Machine Casing in the same way.[4][5]

Unverified The sources here do not show how the blocks connect to a Refined Storage network, how fast Energy, Source or Souls transfer, or what the usage options for the Energy and Source blocks are set to in this pack. The mod has those usage options, but no config files for it are available here and no guidebook was found, so the values are unknown. The recipes for the disks and the Storage Parts are not shown either.

How do you progress through Refined Types?

3 parts

Refined Types adds Energy, Source and Soul storage to Refined Storage, so your network can hold more than items and fluids. In this pack, the way in is the quest "Other Storage Parts" quest in the Refined Storage chapter. It unlocks after an earlier quest in that chapter, and its text points you to this mod for storing Energy, Source and Souls.[2]

Starting tier: your first parts

The quest asks for three Refined Types parts: 64K Energy Storage Part, 64B Source Storage Part and 1K Soul Storage Part. It also asks for a chemical part from the Refined Storage - Mekanism Integration mod. The pack has changed all three Refined Types part recipes, so don't rely on what you remember from the standalone mod.[2][4]

Parts become disks and blocks

Each tier follows the same pattern. You craft a storage part first, then use that part to make the matching disk or the matching block. Every disk and block recipe shown in the pack data is marked as changed by the pack. Here is the 64K Energy tier as an example.[4]

Tip: Disks and blocks both need the part for their tier, so make the part first. The recipes shown in the pack data follow the same part-then-disk-or-block pattern at every tier.[4]

The tier ladder

Each of the three storage types climbs through named tiers, ending in an Infinite tier. These are the parts that exist, in the order their names count up.[4]

How does Refined Types work with other mods?

4 parts

Refined Types is an addon for Refined Storage. It adds FE, Source (from Ars Nouveau) and Souls (from Industrial Foregoing Souls) as things your storage network can hold, transfer, view and autocraft. Almost everything it does ties into Refined Storage, and this pack also gives it a small Ars Nouveau link.[1][4]

Refined Storage: the backbone

The pack changed most Refined Types recipes so they run through Refined Storage components. Storage blocks need a Machine Casing, and disks need a Storage Housing together with the matching storage part. The energy disk recipes in the data are the exception: they show as the mod's own recipes, not pack changes.[4]

Processors set the part tiers

To upgrade a storage part to the next size, you craft it from the previous part, a Refined Storage processor and a storage block. The processor gets better as the capacity grows, and the extra block (gold, diamond, emerald or netherite) changes with the tier. Each of these upgrades also needs a redstone block.[4]

Quest tie-in

The Refined Storage quest chapter has a quest called "Other Storage Parts" quest. It explains that Refined Storage can store Chemicals through the Refined Storage - Mekanism Integration mod, and that Energy, Source and Souls come from Refined Types. Its tasks are the 64B chemical storage part, 64K Energy Storage Part, 64B Source Storage Part and 1K Soul Storage Part.[2]

Which All the Mods 10 quests use Refined Types?

1 part

The quest that involves Refined Types is in the Refined Storage chapter: "Other Storage Parts" quest. It introduces the extra storage types this mod adds on top of items and fluids.[2]

The quest text explains that Refined Storage can also store Chemicals, thanks to the Refined Storage - Mekanism Integration mod, and that Refined Types lets you store Energy, Source and Souls. The quest unlocks after an earlier quest in the same chapter, so work through the Refined Storage quests in order.[2]

What the quest asks for

The tasks are a chemical storage part from the Refined Storage - Mekanism Integration mod, plus these parts from Refined Types:[2]

What changed in Refined Types between versions?

Refined Types has a short history in All the Mods 10. The sources only cover how its version moved between pack releases.[3][6][7]

  • All the Mods 10 4.6: Refined Types was added to the pack at version 1.21.1-0.1.1.[7]
  • All the Mods 10 4.7: the mod was updated from 1.21.1-0.1.1 to 1.21.1-0.1.3.[6]
  • All the Mods 10 4.11: the pack ships version 1.21.1-0.1.3 (refined-types-1.21.1-0.1.3.jar), the same version that 4.7 brought in.[3]

Unverified What actually changed between Refined Types 1.21.1-0.1.1 and 1.21.1-0.1.3 (new features, fixes or balance changes) is not shown in the sources here, because there are no stored changelogs for the shipped jars. The pack changelogs only list the version bump.
