What is Pipez?
3 parts
Pipez adds simple, highly configurable pipes that are built to cause as little lag as possible. This pack ships version 1.21.1-1.2.18. If you want to move items, fluids, energy or gas around your base without a big performance hit, this is the mod for you.[1][2]
The pipe types
- Item Pipe moves items.[1]
- Fluid Pipe moves fluids.[1]
- Energy Pipe moves energy.[1]
- Gas Pipe moves gas and is tied to Mekanism.[1]
- Universal Pipe combines all four pipe types in one. You pick which type to configure with the tabs on the left of its GUI.[1]
Why people use it
Pipez is lag friendly: only extracting pipes have block entities, pipes don't load unnecessary chunks, and rendering is efficient. The project page compares it with Mekanism's logistical transporters at about 7,200 pipes, where Mekanism crashes with a stack overflow.[1]
Pipes don't transfer anything until you set them to extract. Sneak-click the end of a connected pipe with the Pipe Wrench to do that. Sneak-clicking with the wrench also disconnects or reconnects pipes. Pipes start out slow, and upgrades raise the transfer rate. The Basic Pipe Upgrade unlocks redstone modes, the Improved Pipe Upgrade unlocks distribution modes, and the Advanced Pipe Upgrade unlocks filter modes and filters. These are the mod's own rules from its project page.[1][3]
Where it fits in the pack
Pipez has its own quest chapter, basic_logistics. It starts with the wrench quest a quest in "?". The item pipe, fluid pipe, energy pipe, gas pipe, filter destination tool and upgrade quests all unlock after it. The upgrade quest a quest in "?" accepts any of the Basic, Improved, Advanced or Ultimate upgrades.[3]
The Universal Pipe quest a quest in "?" comes after the fluid, item and energy pipe quests. The Filter Destination Tool quest is a quest in "?".[3]
Pipez also shows up in the mainquestline_part_1 chapter. The cable quest a quest in "?" accepts the Energy Pipe, a Mekanism basic universal cable or a Powah basic energy cable, so any of them completes it.[4]
How do you get started with Pipez?
4 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 4.5 guide
Pipez gives you item, fluid, energy and gas pipes, plus a Universal Pipe that does all of it. Gas pipes are the Mekanism one. The mod is built to cause very little lag, and only extracting pipes have block entities. Here is the order I'd go in.[1]
Make the Pipe Wrench first
The Pipe Wrench is the first quest in the basic logistics chapter (a quest in "?"). Every other quest in that chapter unlocks after it, so it's the natural starting point.[5]

The wrench is how you configure pipes. Click a pipe with it to configure it. Sneak-click with it to disconnect or reconnect a pipe.[1][6]
Pick the pipe you need
- Item Pipe moves items. Its quest is a quest in "?".[1][5]
- Fluid Pipe moves fluids. Its quest is a quest in "?".[1][5]
- Energy Pipe moves power. Its quest is a quest in "?". It also counts for a quest in "?" in the main questline, where other cable types are accepted too.[1][5][7]
- Gas Pipe moves Mekanism gases. Its quest is a quest in "?".[1][5]

You'll also meet these pipes outside the logistics chapter. The energy pipe and wrench are the tasks of a quest in "?" in the basic power chapter, and the upgrade quest a quest in "?" comes right after it, accepting any of the four upgrade tiers. A Fluid Pipe is one of the accepted pipes for a quest in "?" in the XyCraft chapter, alongside several other mods' fluid pipes.[8][9]
Add an upgrade
By default pipes are relatively slow, and adding an upgrade is how you speed them up. Higher tiers mean a higher transfer rate. The Basic Pipe Upgrade is the entry point. The upgrade quest (a quest in "?") accepts any of the four tiers: Basic, Improved, Advanced or Ultimate.[1][5]

Filters and the Universal Pipe
Once you have an Advanced upgrade, you can filter item, fluid and gas pipes. To limit a filter to one destination, make a Filter Destination Tool (its quest is a quest in "?"), click the block your pipe inserts into, and put the tool in the filter's destination slot. It won't work if you click a side the pipe isn't connected to.[1][5][6]

When you're ready to combine pipe types, the Universal Pipe has every feature of the other pipes. Its quest (a quest in "?") unlocks after the item, fluid and energy pipe quests. You choose which pipe type to configure with the tabs on the left of its GUI.[1][5]

How does Pipez work?
6 parts
Pipez keeps things simple: you get one pipe per resource, and almost everything is configured on the pipe itself. The pipe types are Item Pipe, Fluid Pipe, Energy Pipe, Gas Pipe (needs Mekanism) and the Universal Pipe, which combines them. The mod is built to cause as little lag as possible.[1]
Getting a pipe to move anything
Use the Pipe Wrench and sneak-click the end of a connected pipe to set it to extract. Then click the extracting part of the pipe to change modes, add filters or add upgrades. Sneak-clicking with the wrench also disconnects or reconnects a pipe side, which is handy when you don't want a pipe touching a neighbouring machine.[1][6]

Only extracting pipes have block entities. Together with the fact that pipes don't load unnecessary chunks, that is why large pipe networks stay light on the server.[1]
Upgrades
Out of the box, pipes are relatively slow, and the only way to speed them up is with upgrades. Higher upgrade tiers mean a higher transfer rate. The tiers are Basic, Improved, Advanced and Ultimate. There is also an Infinity tier, which the mod says is not craftable by default.[1]
Each upgrade in this pack is crafted from the tier below it, so you climb the ladder one step at a time.[10]

Upgrades also unlock features, as the mod describes them:[1]
- Basic Pipe Upgrade: redstone modes (ignore, on when powered, off when powered).[1]
- Improved Pipe Upgrade: distribution modes (round robin, nearest first, furthest first, random).[1]
- Advanced Pipe Upgrade: filter modes and filters.[1]
Every setting and filter you configure is stored in the upgrade itself. To copy that data onto other upgrades, craft them together.[1]
Unverified How the Infinity upgrade can be obtained in this pack is not confirmed by the sources.
Transfer rates in this pack
The pack sets these rates in the server config, and the pipe tooltips show the same numbers in game. Item pipes are limited by both an amount and a speed. A speed of 1 means every tick. Fluid, energy and gas pipes move a set amount every tick.[6][11]
- Item Pipe, no upgrade: 4 items every 20 ticks (item_pipe.amount.no_upgrade, item_pipe.speed.no_upgrade).[6][11]
- Item Pipe, Basic: 8 items every 15 ticks. Improved: 16 items every 10 ticks. Advanced: 32 items every 5 ticks. Ultimate: 64 items every tick.[6][11]
- Fluid Pipe, from no upgrade up to Ultimate: 50, 100, 500, 2,000 and 10,000 mB per tick (fluid_pipe.amount.no_upgrade and its tier siblings).[6][11]
- Energy Pipe, from no upgrade up to Ultimate: 256, 1,024, 8,192, 32,768 and 131,072 FE per tick (energy_pipe.amount.no_upgrade and its tier siblings).[6][11]
- Gas Pipe, from no upgrade up to Ultimate: 200, 400, 2,000, 8,000 and 40,000 mB per tick. Gas pipes are only available if Mekanism is installed (gas_pipe.amount.no_upgrade and its tier siblings).[6][11]
Filters
Filters work with item, fluid and gas pipes, and you need an Advanced upgrade to use them. You can blacklist or whitelist, filter by tag, and use several filters at once. Filters can also be copied.[1]
- To add something to a filter, click the item on the slot in the filter GUI, or type its ID in the text field next to it. Tag filters take tags prefixed with # or item IDs.[1][6]
- If the thing you inserted has NBT data, the NBT string shows in a second text area. Delete that text if you don't want to match NBT. The mod lists three NBT matching modes: match exact, match existing and match none.[1]
- Press the button with the paper on it to invert a filter. It then applies to the exact opposite of what you entered, except for the destination.[1]
Per-filter destinations
A filter can be limited to one destination. For that you need the Filter Destination Tool. Click the block your pipe inserts into to store its location and face. It won't work if you click a side of the block that the pipe isn't connected to. Then put the tool in the destination slot of the filter GUI, and the destination block shows up in the filter list.[1][6]

How do you progress through Pipez?
6 parts
Pipez progression in this pack is a short, branching chain. You start with the wrench, pick which pipe types you need, and then climb an upgrade ladder. Everything below follows the pack's quest chapter and the in-pack recipes.[3][10]
The quest path
Pipez has its own quests in the basic logistics chapter, and they are all untitled in this version. The chapter starts at a quest in "?", which asks you to obtain the Pipe Wrench. Almost everything else unlocks after it.[3]
- a quest in "?" asks for the Item Pipe.[3]
- a quest in "?" asks for the Fluid Pipe.[3]
- a quest in "?" asks for the Energy Pipe.[3]
- a quest in "?" asks for the Gas Pipe.[3]
- a quest in "?" asks for the Filter Destination Tool.[3]
- a quest in "?" is satisfied by any one of the upgrade items: Basic Pipe Upgrade, Improved Pipe Upgrade, Advanced Pipe Upgrade or Ultimate Pipe Upgrade. Crafting the Basic one is enough to complete it.[3]
- a quest in "?" asks for the Universal Pipe. It only unlocks once the item, fluid and energy pipe quests are done. The gas pipe is not required for it.[3]
Outside the Pipez chapter, a quest in "?" in the main questline accepts the Energy Pipe as one of several options. Mekanism's basic universal cable and Powah's basic energy cable also count, so you don't have to use Pipez to finish it.[4]
Step 1: the wrench
The wrench is the entry point for the whole chapter, and every other Pipez quest in it comes after this one.[3]

Step 2: pick your pipe types

How does Pipez work with other mods?
2 parts
Pipez has one direct tie to another mod in this pack: the Gas Pipe is the pipe type that works with Mekanism. The Pipez project page lists Gas Pipes as the Mekanism pipe type, and the pack's recipe for it uses Mekanism's Infused Alloy.[1][10]

Recipe id: pipez:gas_pipe
The Gas Pipe recipe in this pack uses a Mekanism material.
Once you have it, gas pipes work with the same filter system as item and fluid pipes. The project page says filters can be used with item pipes, fluid pipes and gas pipes.[1]
Energy pipes in the main questline
Pipez also shows up next to other mods' items in the main questline. The quest a quest in "?" accepts any one of these items: Basic Universal Cable, Energy Pipe or Energy Cable (Basic). So the pack lets you hand in a Pipez energy pipe instead of a Mekanism or Powah cable to complete it.[4]
Pipez quests in the logistics chapter
The basic_logistics chapter has a quest for the gas pipe, a quest in "?". It unlocks after the Pipe Wrench quest, a quest in "?", alongside the fluid, item and energy pipe quests. The quest only asks for the Pipez item itself, but the pack's recipe for that item uses Mekanism's alloy.[3][10]
Unverified The sources don't show any other in-pack recipes or quests that combine Pipez items with items from other mods, so none are covered here.
Which All the Mods 10 quests use Pipez?
2 parts
Pipez appears in the basic_logistics chapter, which is built around the mod, and in the mainquestline_part_1 chapter, where a Pipez item can complete a quest. The quests have no titles in the pack files, so I point to them by their IDs.[3][4]
basic_logistics chapter
Everything in this chapter starts with quest a quest in "?", which asks you to get the Pipe Wrench. The rest of the chapter unlocks after it.[3]
Once the wrench quest is done, these quests open up. Each one only needs the wrench quest, so you can do them in any order:[3]
- a quest in "?" asks for the Filter Destination Tool.[3]
- a quest in "?" asks for the Item Pipe.[3]
- a quest in "?" asks for the Fluid Pipe.[3]
- a quest in "?" asks for the Energy Pipe.[3]
- a quest in "?" asks for the Gas Pipe.[3]
- a quest in "?" asks for a pipe upgrade. Any of the Basic Pipe Upgrade, Improved Pipe Upgrade, Advanced Pipe Upgrade or Ultimate Pipe Upgrade counts.[3]
The last quest in the chapter is a quest in "?", which asks for the Universal Pipe. It needs the item, fluid and energy pipe quests (a quest in "?", a quest in "?" and a quest in "?") finished first. The gas pipe, upgrade and filter tool quests aren't required for it.[3]
mainquestline_part_1 chapter
Quest a quest in "?" is a power-cable quest. It accepts any one of Basic Universal Cable, the Energy Pipe or Energy Cable (Basic), so you can finish it with Pipez or with Mekanism or Powah cables instead. It unlocks after quest a quest in "?" in the same chapter.[4]
Unverified The quest files I was given don't show rewards or descriptions for any of these quests, so I can't say what completing them gives you.
Which Pipez config options matter?
4 parts
Pipez keeps its tuning in one file, the server config. Every pipe type has a transfer value for each upgrade tier, from no upgrade up to ultimate. If you want to know how fast your pipes really move things, this is where to look.[1][11]
Energy pipes
Energy pipes move a set amount of FE each tick. In this pack the values are 256 with no upgrade, then energy_pipe.amount.basic at 1,024, energy_pipe.amount.improved at 8,192, energy_pipe.amount.advanced at 32,768 and energy_pipe.amount.ultimate at 131,072. The no-upgrade value is energy_pipe.amount.no_upgrade.[11]
Fluid pipes
Fluid pipes are measured in mB per tick. This pack sets them as follows:[11]
- No upgrade: 50 mB (fluid_pipe.amount.no_upgrade)[11]
- Basic: 100 mB (fluid_pipe.amount.basic)[11]
- Improved: 500 mB (fluid_pipe.amount.improved)[11]
- Advanced: 2,000 mB (fluid_pipe.amount.advanced)[11]
- Ultimate: 10,000 mB (fluid_pipe.amount.ultimate)[11]
Gas pipes
Gas pipes also use mB per tick, and they only exist when Mekanism is installed. The pack values are 200 with no upgrade (gas_pipe.amount.no_upgrade), 400 for basic (gas_pipe.amount.basic), 2,000 for improved (gas_pipe.amount.improved), 8,000 for advanced (gas_pipe.amount.advanced) and 40,000 for ultimate (gas_pipe.amount.ultimate).[11]
Item pipes
Item pipes have two settings per tier. The amount is how many items move per transfer, and the speed is how often a transfer happens. A speed of 1 means every tick, so a lower speed number is faster.[11]
- No upgrade: 4 items, speed 20 (item_pipe.amount.no_upgrade, item_pipe.speed.no_upgrade)[11]
- Basic: 8 items, speed 15 (item_pipe.amount.basic, item_pipe.speed.basic)[11]
- Improved: 16 items, speed 10 (item_pipe.amount.improved, item_pipe.speed.improved)[11]
- Advanced: 32 items, speed 5 (item_pipe.amount.advanced, item_pipe.speed.advanced)[11]
- Ultimate: 64 items, speed 1, so every tick (item_pipe.amount.ultimate, item_pipe.speed.ultimate)[11]
Unverified The sources don't list the mod's default values, so I can't say which of these numbers the pack changed from the defaults. Treat all of them as the pack's own values.
