What is Pipez?
3 parts
Pipez adds simple, highly configurable pipes that are built to cause as little lag as possible. If you want to move items, fluids, energy or gas around your base without the lag of huge pipe networks, this is the mod for you. This pack includes Pipez 1.21.1-1.2.19.[1][2]
Pipe types
- Item Pipe, Fluid Pipe and Energy Pipe cover the basics.[1]
- Gas Pipe moves gas and is tied to Mekanism.[1]
- Universal Pipe combines all four pipe types in one. You pick which type to configure with the tabs on the left of its GUI.[1]
What makes it good
Only extracting pipes have block entities, and pipes don't load unnecessary chunks, which is why the mod is so lag friendly. You also get filters (black-/whitelisting, tag filtering and more), three redstone modes and four distribution modes. Transfer speeds are fully customizable.[1]
Pipes are slow by default, and upgrades raise the transfer rate. Redstone modes need a Basic upgrade, distribution modes need an Improved one, and filter modes and filters need an Advanced one. The mod also has an Infinity tier, but it is not craftable by default. Whether the pack changes that is unverified. The pack's quests only mention Basic Pipe Upgrade, Improved Pipe Upgrade, Advanced Pipe Upgrade and Ultimate Pipe Upgrade.[1][3]
Where it fits in the pack
The basic_logistics quest chapter starts with the wrench in a quest in "?". From there it branches into the filter destination tool (a quest in "?"), gas pipes (a quest in "?"), fluid pipes (a quest in "?"), item pipes (a quest in "?"), energy pipes (a quest in "?") and upgrades (a quest in "?"). The universal pipe quest (a quest in "?") comes after you've done the fluid, item and energy pipe quests.[3]
Pipez also shows up in the power chapter, where a quest in "?" asks for an energy pipe and a wrench and a quest in "?" follows with an upgrade. In the main questline, a quest in "?" accepts an energy pipe, but a Mekanism or Powah cable counts too. The xycraft hydro pump quest a quest in "?" accepts a Pipez fluid or universal pipe, among other mods' pipes.[4][5][6]
How do you get started with Pipez?
4 parts
Pipez gives you item, fluid, energy and gas pipes, plus a Universal Pipe that does all of it. Gas pipes are the Mekanism one. The mod is built to cause very little lag, and only extracting pipes have block entities. Here is the order I'd go in.[1]
Make the Pipe Wrench first
The Pipe Wrench is the first quest in the basic logistics chapter (a quest in "?"). Every other quest in that chapter unlocks after it, so it's the natural starting point.[3]

The wrench is how you configure pipes. Click a pipe with it to configure it. Sneak-click with it to disconnect or reconnect a pipe.[1][7]
Pick the pipe you need
- Item Pipe moves items. Its quest is a quest in "?".[1][3]
- Fluid Pipe moves fluids. Its quest is a quest in "?".[1][3]
- Energy Pipe moves power. Its quest is a quest in "?". It also counts for a quest in "?" in the main questline, where other cable types are accepted too.[1][3][5]
- Gas Pipe moves Mekanism gases. Its quest is a quest in "?".[1][3]

You'll also meet these pipes outside the logistics chapter. The energy pipe and wrench are the tasks of a quest in "?" in the basic power chapter, and the upgrade quest a quest in "?" comes right after it, accepting any of the four upgrade tiers. A Fluid Pipe is one of the accepted pipes for a quest in "?" in the XyCraft chapter, alongside several other mods' fluid pipes.[4][6]
Add an upgrade
By default pipes are relatively slow, and adding an upgrade is how you speed them up. Higher tiers mean a higher transfer rate. The Basic Pipe Upgrade is the entry point. The upgrade quest (a quest in "?") accepts any of the four tiers: Basic, Improved, Advanced or Ultimate.[1][3]

- Basic Pipe Upgrade unlocks redstone modes.[1][3]
- Improved Pipe Upgrade unlocks distribution modes.[1][3]
- Advanced Pipe Upgrade unlocks filter modes and filters.[1][3]

Filters and the Universal Pipe
Once you have an Advanced upgrade, you can filter item, fluid and gas pipes. To limit a filter to one destination, make a Filter Destination Tool (its quest is a quest in "?"), click the block your pipe inserts into, and put the tool in the filter's destination slot. It won't work if you click a side the pipe isn't connected to.[1][3][7]

When you're ready to combine pipe types, the Universal Pipe has every feature of the other pipes. Its quest (a quest in "?") unlocks after the item, fluid and energy pipe quests. You choose which pipe type to configure with the tabs on the left of its GUI.[1][3]

How does Pipez work?
7 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide
Pipez is all about moving things from A to B without lag. In this pack you get Item Pipe, Fluid Pipe, Energy Pipe and Gas Pipe. The gas pipe works with Mekanism. The Universal Pipe combines all four in one block. Everything is set up through a wrench and upgrades, so let's go through how it works.[1]

Pipes only move things when they extract
This catches a lot of people out: a pipe doesn't transfer anything unless it is set to extract. The mod also keeps lag low on purpose. Only extracting pipes have block entities, and pipes don't load unnecessary chunks.[1]
- Craft a Pipe Wrench and connect your pipes between the source and the destination.[1][8]
- Sneak-click the end of a connected pipe with the wrench to set it to extract.[1]
- Click the extracting part of the pipe to change modes, add filters or add upgrades.[1]
- To disconnect or reconnect a pipe side, sneak-click it with the wrench.[1]

Speed and upgrades
Pipes are relatively slow by default, and you raise the speed by adding an upgrade. A higher upgrade tier means a higher transfer rate. The pipe's tooltip shows its current rate: FE per tick for energy, mB per tick for fluids and gas, and a number of items per a number of ticks for item pipes.[1][9]
The mod has five upgrade tiers: Basic Pipe Upgrade, Improved Pipe Upgrade, Advanced Pipe Upgrade, Ultimate Pipe Upgrade and Infinity. The mod describes Infinity as not craftable by default. The recipes for the other four are shown below.[1][8]

Upgrades also unlock features, so a bare pipe can't do everything:[1]
- Basic Pipe Upgrade: redstone modes (ignore, on when powered, off when powered).[1][8]
- Improved Pipe Upgrade: distribution modes (round robin, nearest first, furthest first, random).[1][8]
- Advanced Pipe Upgrade: filter modes and filters.[1][8]
Every setting you change and every filter you add is stored in the upgrade itself. To copy that data onto other upgrades, craft them together.[1]
Filters
Filters work with item pipes, fluid pipes and gas pipes. You can combine several filters on one pipe, and each filter can be a blacklist or whitelist. Filters can also be inverted with the paper button, which makes the filter apply to the exact opposite of what you entered (the destination stays the same). Filters can be copied, and the filter GUI offers tag filtering.[1]
- To add a specific object, click it onto the slot in the filter GUI, or type its ID in the text field next to the slot.[1]
- Tag entries are written with a # prefix, or you can use plain item IDs.[9]
- If the object has NBT data, the NBT string appears in a second text area. Delete that text if you don't want to match NBT.[1]
- The NBT button switches between matching the exact NBT data and matching only the tags you provided.[1][9]
- Some entry types can't have NBT tags at all, and the GUI tells you so.[9]
Per-filter destinations
A filter can apply to only one destination. For this you need the Filter Destination Tool. Click the block your pipe inserts into to store its location and face. Then put the tool in the destination slot of the filter GUI, and the destination block shows up in the filter list.[1][8][9]

Why Pipez is so light
The mod claims efficient rendering and a server-friendly design. Its project page compares Pipez item pipes against Mekanism's logistical transporters at about 4200 and about 7200 pipes. It says Mekanism's recursive connection algorithm crashes with a stack overflow at the larger size. That is the mod author's own claim, so I haven't tested it in this pack.[1]
How do you progress through Pipez?
4 parts
Pipez progression in this pack is simple: get the Pipe Wrench, craft one pipe type for each thing you want to move, then upgrade those pipes. The pack's quests follow this same order, so you can use them as a checklist.[3]
Step 1: the Pipe Wrench
The first quest in the logistics chapter, a quest in "?", asks for the Pipe Wrench. Every other Pipez quest in that chapter unlocks after it, so start here.[3]

Step 2: pick your pipe types
Once the wrench quest is done, several quests open at once. Each one asks for a different pipe, so you can take them in any order and craft whichever you need first.[3]
- Item Pipe moves items. Quest: a quest in "?".[3]
- Fluid Pipe moves fluids. Quest: a quest in "?".[3]
- Energy Pipe moves energy. Quest: a quest in "?".[3]
- Gas Pipe moves gases. Quest: a quest in "?".[3]
- Filter Destination Tool is the filtering tool. Quest: a quest in "?".[3]

The Energy Pipe also turns up in other chapters. In the basic power chapter, a quest in "?" asks for the energy pipe and the wrench together. In the main questline, a quest in "?" accepts the energy pipe or a basic cable from another mod, so Pipez is only one of the options there.[4][5]
The Fluid Pipe is likewise one of several accepted options in the xycraft chapter, in a quest in "?". That quest takes pipes from other mods too, and it also accepts the Universal Pipe.[6]
Step 3: pipe upgrades
Pipe upgrades come in these tiers: Basic Pipe Upgrade, Improved Pipe Upgrade, Advanced Pipe Upgrade and Ultimate Pipe Upgrade. The recipes for each one are shown below, in that order.[10]
The upgrade quest, a quest in "?", accepts any of the four tiers. That means the Basic upgrade is enough to complete it. The basic power chapter has the same kind of quest, a quest in "?", which also accepts any tier.[3][4]

Step 4: the Universal Pipe
The last pipe quest, a quest in "?", asks for the Universal Pipe. It unlocks only after the item, fluid and energy pipe quests are done. This fits the recipe, which uses one of each of those three pipes.[3][10]

How does Pipez work with other mods?
3 parts
Pipez is fairly self-contained in this pack, but it ties into other mods in a few places. The strongest link is Mekanism, because the Gas Pipe only exists for Mekanism gases. The rest are quests that accept Pipez pipes alongside pipes and cables from other mods.[1][5][6][10]
Mekanism: Gas Pipe
The Gas Pipe is the one Pipez pipe that depends on Mekanism. Its in-pack recipe uses an item from Mekanism, so you need to have started on that mod before you can craft it. Here is the exact recipe:[1][10]

Recipe id: pipez:gas_pipe
The Universal Pipe is described as all four pipe types in one, and gas is one of them. The basic_logistics chapter has a quest for it (a quest in "?") that unlocks after the fluid, item and energy pipe quests.[1][3]
Quests that accept other mods' pipes
- In the mainquestline_part_1 chapter, a quest in "?" accepts Mekanism's basic universal cable, the Energy Pipe or Powah's basic energy cable. Any one of them completes it, so you can pick your favorite power transport.[5]
- In the xycraft chapter, a quest in "?" asks for the XyCraft hydro pump plus a fluid pipe. The Fluid Pipe and Universal Pipe count. So do pipes from Modern Dynamics, Immersive Engineering and Mekanism's mechanical pipes in all four tiers.[6]
Pipez's own quest chapters
The basic_logistics and basic_power chapters only ask for Pipez items. That covers the Pipe Wrench, the Filter Destination Tool, the pipes and the upgrades. They don't need items from other mods.[3][4]
Which All the Mods 10 quests use Pipez?
4 parts
Pipez shows up in four quest chapters in this pack: basic_logistics, basic_power, mainquestline_part_1 and xycraft. None of these quests has a title, so I'll point to each one by its quest reference. Every one of them is an item-collection quest.[3][4][5][6]
basic_logistics
This is the main Pipez chapter. It starts with a quest in "?", which asks for the Pipe Wrench. Almost everything else in the chapter unlocks after that quest.[3]
- a quest in "?": get the Pipe Wrench. This is the root of the chapter.[3]
- Once that's done, these quests open up in parallel: a quest in "?" asks for the Item Pipe, a quest in "?" for the Fluid Pipe, a quest in "?" for the Energy Pipe and a quest in "?" for the Gas Pipe.[3]
- Also unlocked by the wrench: a quest in "?" asks for the Filter Destination Tool.[3]
- Also unlocked by the wrench: a quest in "?" accepts any one of the four upgrades, which are the Basic Pipe Upgrade, Improved Pipe Upgrade, Advanced Pipe Upgrade or Ultimate Pipe Upgrade.[3]
- a quest in "?": get the Universal Pipe. It unlocks only after you've finished the item, fluid and energy pipe quests (a quest in "?", a quest in "?" and a quest in "?"). The gas pipe quest isn't required for it.[3]
basic_power
a quest in "?" needs both the Energy Pipe and the Pipe Wrench. It comes after an earlier quest that isn't a Pipez quest. Then a quest in "?" follows it and accepts any one of the four Pipez upgrades: Basic Pipe Upgrade, Improved Pipe Upgrade, Advanced Pipe Upgrade or Ultimate Pipe Upgrade.[4]
mainquestline_part_1
a quest in "?" is a power-cable quest, and you have a choice. It accepts the Energy Pipe, a Mekanism basic universal cable or a Powah basic energy cable, so Pipez is only one of three ways to complete it. It unlocks after another quest in the same chapter.[5]
xycraft
a quest in "?" asks for the Xycraft hydro pump plus a fluid pipe. Many fluid pipes count, including Modern Dynamics, Mekanism and Immersive Engineering ones. Both the Fluid Pipe and the Universal Pipe are accepted too. It unlocks after another quest in that chapter.[6]
