What is Not Enough Glyphs?
3 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide
Not Enough Glyphs (NEG for short) is a spellcasting addon that repacks popular utility glyphs from older addons and adds a few of its own. It also adds the SpellBinder, an alternative to the spellbook. If you like building spells and want more variety, this mod is for you.[1]
This pack ships Not Enough Glyphs 4.6.1 for Minecraft 1.21.1. It has been in the pack since version 2.25 or earlier.[2]
New glyphs
- Trail is an echoing projectile. It resolves the spell along its path several times before it expires, like a lingering version of a projectile.[1]
- Plow lets you till dirt and do other hoe jobs. It is the glyph missing from the "Spellbook of all trades" set.[1]
- Plane is a non-repeating version of linger. Use it to make the next spell area-of-effect, or to shape circles, cylinders and hollow squares.[1]
- Contingencies store the spell that follows them and cast it when their condition happens. Mana is only spent on the first cast, and only one contingency can be active at a time. For example, Contingency Death followed by Explode blows up the target if it dies while the effect is still on it.[1]
The SpellBinder
The SpellBinder holds up to 25 spells as caster tomes or spell parchments. You can't craft spells on the fly with it, so it suits spells you won't edit again, or spells you want to share without handing over a whole book.[1]
It also accepts threads. Dedicated book threads, called book covers, fill those slots. They include focus covers, a Randomize thread, the Slow Power and Cheap Damage tradeoff pair, and the Sharp Pages and Hard Cover pair that turn the binder into a melee weapon.[1]
Repacked glyphs
NEG also repacks glyphs from other addons, including TooManyGlyphs, Omega, Elemental and Trinkets. Those copies disable themselves if the original addon is installed.[1]
Unverified No quests, in-jar guidebook or ATM Star path entries for this mod were found, so where it fits in the pack's progression is unconfirmed.
How do you get started with Not Enough Glyphs?
5 parts
Not Enough Glyphs is an Ars Nouveau add-on that brings some handy utility glyphs and a new way to carry your spells, the Spell Binder. Here is what to make first, in order.[1][3]
Start with the Spell Binder
The Spell Binder is an alternative to the spellbook. It doesn't let you craft spells on the fly, but it can hold up to 25 spells as caster tomes or spell parchments. That makes it great for spells you won't ever edit, or for sharing spells without handing over a whole book.[1][3]
In this pack it is made at the Enchanting Apparatus. Here is the exact recipe:[3]
Enchanting Apparatus (ars_nouveau)
8× Leather
- any spellbook
Recipe id: not_enough_glyphs:spell_binder
You can also dye the binder with a dye recipe.[3]
Pick up the Glyph of Plow
Glyph Plow lets you plow dirt and do other hoe jobs with a spell. The mod calls it the glyph missing from the Spellbook of all trades set, which makes it a useful glyph for farming.[1][3]
Add the Echoing Projectile
Glyph Trail fires a projectile that resolves your spell on its trail a few times before expiring, a bit like a lingering version of a projectile.[1][3]
Work towards Propagate Plane
Glyph Propagate Plane is a non-repeating version of linger. You can use it to make the following spell area-of-effect if it doesn't support that directly, and also to make circles, cylinders and hollow squares.[1][3]
Glyph (ars_nouveau)
Manipulation Essence
Wilden Spike
Firework Star
- any diamond storage block
Recipe id: not_enough_glyphs:glyph_propagate_plane
Book covers for your binder
The Spell Binder also accepts threads, and the mod has dedicated ones for it called book covers. Focus covers can allow glyph combos to trigger on spells cast from the binder. Other covers trade off spell speed, power and cost, or turn the binder into a melee weapon.[1]
How does Not Enough Glyphs work?
4 parts
Not Enough Glyphs is a spellcasting add-on, so there are no machines, power or fluid systems to wire up here. What the sources cover is a set of extra glyphs and the Spell Binder, an alternative to the spellbook with its own upgrade slots. This section explains how those pieces work.[1]
The Spell Binder
The Spell Binder doesn't allow on-the-fly spellcrafting like a spellbook does. Instead it can hold up to 25 spells, stored as caster tomes or spell parchments. That makes it a good fit for spells you won't edit, or for sharing a spell without sharing a whole book.[1][3]
Enchanting Apparatus (ars_nouveau)
8× Leather
- any spellbook
Recipe id: not_enough_glyphs:spell_binder
You can also dye the binder by crafting it together with a dye.[3]
Book covers (threads)
Like Ars armor, the binder accepts threads. The armor threads physically fit, but the mod says there's no guarantee they'll work and they might be patched out. The mod adds dedicated book threads, called book covers, for those slots.[1]
- Focus threads (air, earth, fire, water, blockshaping and summoning): the binder casts spells as if that focus were equipped. The project page notes you don't get the extra stats, but you can trigger glyph combos, for example to chase trifocus effects.[1][4]
- Slow Power and Cheap Damage are a pair of tradeoffs. Per its description, Slow Power will increase the damage of spells cast from the equipped book but heavily reduce their speed. Cheap Damage will greatly discount those spells but heavily reduce their damage.[4]
- Sharp Paper and Knockback are the melee threads. Sharp Paper will increase the melee damage if the book is used as a weapon, and Knockback will increase its knockback when used as a melee weapon.[4]
- Wild Magic: its in-game description says it will randomly add positive augments to the effects of your spells when equipped.[4]
The mod's own glyphs
Glyph Plow lets you plow dirt and do other hoe things. It is the glyph missing from the Spellbook of all trades set.[1][3]
Glyph Trail is a projectile that resolves the spell on its trail some times before expiring, akin to a linger version of Projectile.[1][3]
Add Sensitive to make the trail resolve on blocks. Use Extend Time to reduce the delay between each cast, and AOE to increase the area of effect.[4]
Glyph Propagate Plane is a non-repeating version of Linger. You can use it to make the following spell AoE if it doesn't directly support that, and also to make circles, cylinders and hollow squares.[1][3]
Its description says it resolves the remainder of the spell into a plane extending from the block hit. Add Sensitive to make the plane circular, and Dampen to make it hollow.[4]

Manipulation Essence
Wilden Spike
Firework Star
- any diamond storage block
Recipe id: not_enough_glyphs:glyph_propagate_plane
The mod also adds Glyph of Momentum and Propagate Orbit. Per its description, Momentum adds momentum speed to the entity hit without changing its direction. With Dampen it adds momentum in the opposite direction of motion, so remember to factor in gravity. Propagate Orbit converts the rest of the spell into an Orbit spell circling the entity or block hit, and the rules of Orbit apply for augments.[4]
Repacked glyphs from other add-ons
Not Enough Glyphs also ports glyphs from older add-ons. They disable themselves if the original add-on is present, including any custom behavior they had.[1]
- From TooManyGlyphs: Ray, Chain, Reverse Direction and most of the filters.[1]
- From Ars Omega: the propagators based on the vanilla forms, plus Flatten to fill the shovel path tool.[1]
- From Ars Elemental: the Arc and Homing projectile forms and their propagators.[1]
- From Trinkets: the Filter: Self and Filter: Not Self glyphs.[1]
Per its description, Ray instantaneously strikes the pointed-at target, at limited yet greater range than Touch. Mana is expended whether or not the ray hits anything. AOE increases range, Sensitive 1 lets the ray strike objects that do not block motion such as plants, and Sensitive 2 allows it to strike fluids.[4]
The filter glyphs stop a spell from resolving unless the target matches. Examples are block, entity, living, monster, player and farm animal, plus baby and mature variants. There are also inverted ones that block monsters or players. The Item filter is likely useless on Projectile and basic Ray, since they can't target non-living entities.[4]
Chain makes a spell chain through multiple grouped targets, either similar blocks or living entities other than the caster. AOE increases the target count, and Pierce increases the maximum jump distance between targets.[4]
How do you progress through Not Enough Glyphs?
2 parts
Not Enough Glyphs doesn't have a tier ladder in this pack. The recipes only show a handful of items, all built on top of Ars Nouveau crafting, so treat this as a short roadmap rather than a tier list.[3]
Unverified No quests involving this mod were provided, so there is no quest-driven progression to follow. The mod is also not confirmed to be on the ATM Star quest path.
Step 1: The Spell Binder
The Spell Binder is the mod's core item and the natural starting point. It is crafted at the Enchanting Apparatus, and the recipe builds on a spellbook from Ars Nouveau, so you'll need to be that far into Ars Nouveau first.[3]

Once you have one, you can recolor it with a dye. This is a separate recipe that takes the binder back as the output.[3]
Step 2: Glyphs
The mod's glyphs use the same glyph recipe type as Ars Nouveau's own, so they sit alongside the glyphs you already know. The recipes below show how each one is made in this pack.[3]
Glyph Plow is the simplest of the three. It's a plain mod recipe built around an essence and a basic tool.[3]
Glyph Trail (Glyph of Echoing Projectile) is also an unchanged mod recipe, but it asks for noticeably rarer materials, so expect to reach it later.[3]
Glyph Propagate Plane is the one to watch. The pack changed this recipe, so don't rely on the mod's default version if you've seen it elsewhere. Use the in-pack recipe below.[3]

How does Not Enough Glyphs work with other mods?
1 part
In this pack, Not Enough Glyphs connects to other mods mainly through Ars Nouveau. Its glyphs are crafted with Ars Nouveau's glyph recipe type, and each one combines Ars Nouveau items with vanilla Minecraft items. The recipe dump shows no other mod links for it.[3]
Glyph recipes
Here are the three glyphs with in-pack recipes. Glyph Plow is the glyph that lets a spell plow dirt and do other hoe jobs. The recipe below is a mod recipe, so the pack leaves it as is.[1][3]
Glyph Trail is a projectile that resolves the spell along its path several times before it expires, a bit like a lingering version of a normal projectile. It is also a mod recipe that the pack hasn't touched.[1][3]
Glyph Propagate Plane is a non-repeating version of linger. You can use it to make a following spell hit an area, or to shape circles, cylinders and hollow squares. This is the one recipe the pack has changed, so use the recipe below rather than anything you remember from the mod's defaults.[1][3]
