What is Not Enough Glyphs?
3 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide
Not Enough Glyphs (NEG for short) is a spellcasting addon that repacks popular utility glyphs from older addons and adds a few of its own. It also adds the SpellBinder, an alternative to the spellbook. If you like building spells and want more variety, this mod is for you.[1]
This pack ships Not Enough Glyphs 4.6.1 for Minecraft 1.21.1. It has been in the pack since version 2.25 or earlier.[2]
New glyphs
- Trail is an echoing projectile. It resolves the spell along its path several times before it expires, like a lingering version of a projectile.[1]
- Plow lets you till dirt and do other hoe jobs. It is the glyph missing from the "Spellbook of all trades" set.[1]
- Plane is a non-repeating version of linger. Use it to make the next spell area-of-effect, or to shape circles, cylinders and hollow squares.[1]
- Contingencies store the spell that follows them and cast it when their condition happens. Mana is only spent on the first cast, and only one contingency can be active at a time. For example, Contingency Death followed by Explode blows up the target if it dies while the effect is still on it.[1]
The SpellBinder
The SpellBinder holds up to 25 spells as caster tomes or spell parchments. You can't craft spells on the fly with it, so it suits spells you won't edit again, or spells you want to share without handing over a whole book.[1]
It also accepts threads. Dedicated book threads, called book covers, fill those slots. They include focus covers, a Randomize thread, the Slow Power and Cheap Damage tradeoff pair, and the Sharp Pages and Hard Cover pair that turn the binder into a melee weapon.[1]
Repacked glyphs
NEG also repacks glyphs from other addons, including TooManyGlyphs, Omega, Elemental and Trinkets. Those copies disable themselves if the original addon is installed.[1]
Unverified No quests, in-jar guidebook or ATM Star path entries for this mod were found, so where it fits in the pack's progression is unconfirmed.
How do you get started with Not Enough Glyphs?
3 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide
Not Enough Glyphs adds extra glyphs for Ars Nouveau spellcasting, plus the Spell Binder, an alternative to the spellbook. The binder does not allow on-the-fly spellcrafting, but it holds more spells and can take optional upgrade threads. Here's the order I'd tackle things in.[1]
First: make the Spell Binder
Start with the Spell Binder. It holds up to 25 spells as caster tomes or spell parchments. That makes it great for spells you won't ever edit, or for sharing a spell without handing over a whole book.[1][3]
This one is made at the Enchanting Apparatus, and it is the mod's own recipe, unchanged by the pack.
There is also a dye recipe for the binder if you want to change its colour.[3]
Next: pick up a few useful glyphs
Next, grab some glyphs. The glyph recipes below are the mod's own, unchanged by the pack. Two good early picks are Glyph Plow, the glyph that lets a spell plow dirt and do other hoe jobs, and Glyph Feed. Feed has a Randomize augment that picks a random food instead of the first valid one.[1][3][4]

Conjuration Essence
- 6× any food

If you want something more advanced, Glyph Trail is the Echoing Projectile. It resolves the spell on its trail some times before expiring, like a lingering version of Projectile.[1][3]
Then: covers, Plane and contingencies
The binder accepts book covers, which are threads made for it. Slow Power slows your spells but gives a spell power buff. Cheap Damage makes spells a lot cheaper but very weak. The pack changed the recipes for both, so use the blocks below instead of relying on other guides.[1][3]
The pack also changed the recipes for Heavy Cover and the elemental covers Air Focus, Earth Focus, Fire Focus and Water Focus. The recipes are shown below.[3]
The Plane glyph, Glyph Propagate Plane, has a pack-changed recipe too. It's a non-repeating version of Linger, handy for making a following spell area-of-effect, or for circles, cylinders and hollow squares.[1][3]
Glyph (ars_nouveau)
Recipe id: not_enough_glyphs:glyph_propagate_plane
Contingencies, such as Glyph Contingency Fall and Glyph Contingency Death, store the spell that follows them for the duration of the effect. They cast it when their condition occurs, and you only spend mana on the initial cast.[1][3]
How does Not Enough Glyphs work?
6 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 7.0 guide
Not Enough Glyphs is a spell addon, so there are no machines, power or pipes to learn here. Everything runs through the Ars Nouveau spell system: you craft new glyphs to use in your spells, and you get the Spell Binder, a new way to carry finished spells around.[1][5]
The mod bundles glyphs from several older addons (Too Many Glyphs, Omega and Elemental, plus the Self and Not Self filters from Trinkets) together with some brand new ones. The repacked glyphs switch themselves off if the original addon is also installed, and that includes any custom behaviour they had.[1]
Unverified The sources don't say which of those original addons, if any, are installed in this pack. That means they can't confirm which version of each repacked glyph you'll actually be using.
Contingencies: spells that wait for a trigger
Contingencies are the headline mechanic. A contingency glyph stores the rest of the spell that comes after it. It keeps that spell for as long as the effect lasts, then casts it when its condition happens. You only pay mana on the first cast, so the stored spell fires for free. For example, Contingency Death followed by Explode will blow up the target if it dies while the effect is still on it.[1]
The pack includes seven contingency glyphs: Glyph Contingency Blink, Glyph Contingency Death, Glyph Contingency Fall, Glyph Contingency Fire, Glyph Contingency Heal, Glyph Contingency Health and Glyph Contingency Time. Each one is a standard glyph recipe.[5]
Glyph (ars_nouveau)
Abjuration Essence
Repeater
- any skull
Recipe id: not_enough_glyphs:glyph_contingency_death
The other contingencies follow the same pattern, each with its own trigger item.
You tune contingencies with augments, and they all share a few behaviours:[6]
- Split adds one more activation before the contingency ends, so it can trigger several times.[6]
- Extend Time makes the effect last longer, and Duration Down makes it shorter.[6]
- On most contingencies, Amplify raises the level of the effect.[6]
- On the Fall contingency, Amplify raises the fall distance needed to trigger by one block, and Dampen lowers it by one block.[6]
- On the Health contingency, Amplify raises the health threshold by 10%.[6]
Unverified The sources don't spell out the exact trigger condition for each contingency except Death, or what the base Fall distance and Health threshold are. Test them in-game before you rely on them.
Plane: instant area shapes
Glyph Propagate Plane works like a version of Linger that doesn't repeat. It spreads the rest of the spell over an area, so you can give area effect to spells that don't normally support it. You can also use it to make circles, cylinders and hollow squares.[1]
- AOE makes the plane wider.[6]
- Pierce makes the plane deeper.[6]
- Dampen makes the plane hollow.[6]
- Sensitive makes the plane circular.[6]
- Randomize drops out random blocks.[6]
Glyph (ars_nouveau)
Recipe id: not_enough_glyphs:glyph_propagate_plane
Trail and Plow
Glyph Trail is an echoing projectile form. It resolves your spell along its trail several times before it expires, much like a lingering version of Projectile.[1]
Glyph Plow is the missing piece of the Spellbook of all trades set. It tills dirt and does the other things a hoe does, and the AOE augment increases its area of effect.[1][6]
Propagators and bonus projectiles
The Arc and Homing projectile forms come from Elemental. Arc projectiles are affected by gravity, and each Pierce makes them bounce once when they hit the ground. Homing projectiles seek out the nearest entity and act like a normal projectile when there's no valid target. They only target players if you add Sensitive.[1][6]
Propagators turn the rest of your spell into a new form wherever the first part lands. For example, the Arc and Homing propagators fire a fresh projectile from that spot. The homing version aims it where the caster is looking. On the propagators, the Extract augment makes the projectile's direction relative to the caster's position.[6]
Filters
The pack also includes the light and dark filter glyphs, Glyph Filter Light and Glyph Filter Dark. Both are simple glyph recipes.[5]
Unverified The sources don't describe exactly what the light and dark filters check for, so their filtering rules can't be confirmed here.
The Spell Binder
The Spell Binder is an alternative to the spellbook. You can't craft or edit spells on the fly with it, but it holds up to 25 spells stored as caster tomes or spell parchments. That makes it perfect for spells you'll never change, or for sharing spells without handing over a whole book. You make it in the Enchanting Apparatus, and a second recipe lets you dye it.[1][5]
Recolours an existing Spell Binder.
Like Ars armor, the binder has thread slots. The mod adds dedicated book threads for these slots, called book covers:[1]
- Focus covers (Shapers or Summoning, or the Elemental ones if Ars Elemental is loaded) let spells cast from the binder trigger glyph combos. They don't give you the extra stats, though.[1]
- The Randomize thread gives every glyph in the spell a random buff or debuff.[1]
- Slow Power slows your spells down in exchange for a spell power buff. Cheap Damage makes spells much cheaper but very weak.[1]
- Sharp Pages and Hard Cover turn the binder into a melee weapon by giving it attack damage or knockback.[1]
How do you progress through Not Enough Glyphs?
4 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 7.0 guide
Not Enough Glyphs doesn't have its own crafting stations. Every item it adds in this pack is made through Ars Nouveau's recipe types. The Spell Binder uses the Enchanting Apparatus and a dye recipe, and every glyph uses Ars Nouveau's glyph recipe type. If you're already making glyphs for your Ars Nouveau spell book, you already know how to unlock these.[5]
The Spell Binder
The Spell Binder is the one non-glyph item here. You craft it in the Enchanting Apparatus, and it starts from a Novice Spell Book, so it's something you can reach early. There's also a dye recipe for it, so you can color it to match your setup.[5]
Accepts any dye.
Low-input glyphs
The filter glyphs have the smallest recipes in the mod, so they're an easy first pick. Glyph Filter Light has just one input, and Glyph Filter Dark adds a black dye to that. Glyph Plow is also a short recipe and needs Earth Essence.[5]
Glyph (ars_nouveau)
Torch

The contingency family
The contingency glyphs are the biggest group in the mod. They all follow the same pattern: each one needs Abjuration Essence and a repeater, plus one extra item that is different for each glyph. Once you're making Abjuration Essence, you can work through the whole set.[5]
- Glyph Contingency Blink[5]
- Glyph Contingency Death[5]
- Glyph Contingency Fall[5]
- Glyph Contingency Fire[5]
- Glyph Contingency Heal[5]
- Glyph Contingency Health[5]
- Glyph Contingency Time[5]

Later-game glyphs
Glyph Trail needs Air Essence plus some End-flavored materials, so you'll probably get to it later in your run.[5]
Glyph Propagate Plane is the one glyph whose recipe this pack has changed. It needs Manipulation Essence, a Wilden Spike and a diamond storage block, which makes it the priciest glyph in the mod.[5]

Unverified The sources don't confirm which spell tier each glyph belongs to, what each glyph does in a spell, or any quest steps for this mod. The grouping above is based only on the in-pack recipes.
How does Not Enough Glyphs work with other mods?
4 parts
In this pack, Not Enough Glyphs connects to other mods through crafting recipes. The glyphs, the Spell Binder and its book covers are all made with Ars Nouveau's crafting systems, and some covers also reach into Ars Elemental.[1][7]
Glyphs use Ars Nouveau's glyph crafting
Glyphs such as Glyph Ride, Glyph Plow, Glyph Feed, Glyph Trail and Glyph Propagate Plane are all Ars Nouveau glyph-type recipes. So are the contingency glyphs, which all build on Abjuration Essence and a Repeater plus one more vanilla item that sets the condition. You craft them like any other Ars Nouveau glyph.[7]
A typical glyph recipe: an Ars Nouveau essence plus a vanilla item.
Trail also pairs an Ars Nouveau essence with vanilla items.
The Spell Binder and book covers
The Spell Binder is made at the Ars Nouveau enchanting apparatus, starting from the Novice Spell Book. It is an alternative to the spellbook that holds up to 25 spells as caster tomes or spell parchments, instead of letting you craft spells on the fly.[1][7]
The binder is crafted at the enchanting apparatus from an Ars Nouveau spell book.
The book covers, which are threads for the binder, are also made at the enchanting apparatus. Their recipes are registered under Ars Nouveau and start from its Blank Thread, so the whole set is crafted the way you would craft Ars Nouveau armor threads.[1][7]
Focus covers and Ars Elemental
The focus covers let the binder trigger focus glyph combos on spells it casts. BlockShaping Focus needs Ars Nouveau's Focus of Block Shaping, and Summoning Focus needs its Focus of Summoning.[1][7]
The elemental covers, Air Focus, Earth Focus, Fire Focus and Water Focus, each need the matching Ars Elemental lesser focus: Lesser Focus of Air, Lesser Focus of Earth, Lesser Focus of Fire or Lesser Focus of Water. Ars Elemental is present in this pack, so all of these covers are craftable.[1][7]
The other elemental covers follow the same pattern with their own focus and essence.
Other covers
The remaining covers, such as Cheap Damage, Slow Power, Heavy Cover, Lucky Cover, Keen Cover, Sharp Pages and Wheel of Fortune, are also enchanting apparatus recipes. They combine Ars Nouveau's Blank Thread with vanilla items, with Ars Nouveau essences in some of them.[7]
Which Not Enough Glyphs config options matter?
3 parts
Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide
Every glyph in Not Enough Glyphs gets its own small config file in the not_enough_glyphs config folder. Most of them share the same options: whether the glyph is enabled, its cost, its tier, how many times it can appear in one spell, whether it's a starter glyph, which glyphs it can't be combined with, and per-augment cost overrides and limits. Here is what this pack does with them.[8][9]
Values the pack changed
In this pack, Momentum and the Time contingency have values moved away from the mod default.[8][9]
- Momentum tier: general.glyph_tier is 1 in this pack. The mod default is 3.[9]
- Momentum spell limit: general.per_spell_limit is 10 in this pack, up from the mod default of 1. That means you can use Momentum several times in one spell.[9]
- Time contingency extend time: general.extend_time is 50 seconds here. The mod default is 30.[8]
- Time contingency potion time: general.potion_time is 100 seconds here. The mod default is 60.[8]
Those Time contingency values now line up with the other contingencies (Blink, Death, Fall, Fire, Heal and Health), which all use 50 seconds for extend time and 100 seconds for potion time.[8][10][11][12][13][14][15]
Other custom settings
These options are not flagged as changed in the pack files, but they are filled in here rather than left empty.[9][15][16]
- Momentum has general.augment_cost_overrides set so that Amplify and Dampen each cost 50 when used with it.[9]
- Momentum's general.amplify value is 1.5, the same as the mod default.[9]
- Health contingency has general.augment_limits set to allow Amplify at most 3 times.[15]
- Plane's general.cost is 200, the mod default.[16]
- Plane's general.glyph_tier is 2, also the mod default.[16]
- Plane's general.per_spell_limit is 1, so it can appear only once per spell.[16]
- Plane's general.augment_cost_overrides makes Sensitive cost 100 when used with it.[16]
- Plane's general.invalid_combos blocks it from sharing a spell with Wall, Chaining, Burst and Linger.[16]
Left at defaults
- Feed: general.cost is 30 and general.glyph_tier is 2. general.foodxplosion_chance is 0.1 and general.stuffed_crush_multiplier is 0.25. All of these match the mod defaults.[17]
- Trail: general.cost is 200, general.glyph_tier is 3, and general.max_lifespan is 60 seconds for the projectile.[18]
- Plow: general.cost is 0 and general.glyph_tier is 1.[19]
- Light and dark filters: general.cost and general.cost are both 0, and general.glyph_tier and general.glyph_tier are both 1.[20][21]
- Ride: general.cost is 20 and general.glyph_tier is 1.[22]
- Time contingency: general.cost is 100, general.glyph_tier is 2, and general.duration_down_time is 200 ticks. The other contingencies also use a cost of 100 at tier 2.[8][10][11][12][13][14][15]
What changed in Not Enough Glyphs between versions?
1 part
Not Enough Glyphs 4.6.1 is the version in FTB Skies 2: Aero 1.10.0. It was first included in Aero 1.0.3 or earlier. The sources I have don't tie individual mod updates to specific pack releases, so the list below follows the mod's own changelog, newest first.[23]
Mod changelog highlights
- 4.6.0: Sauce was updated to 0.0.42 for Ars Nouveau 5.12+. Book cover namespaces moved from the Ars Nouveau namespace to the Not Enough Glyphs namespace. The migration should be lossless, but the changelog advises making a backup anyway.[24]
- 4.5.1: Added a config for the stuffed-crush damage boost and foodXplosion, plus an entity blacklist for Ride. The "Random" filter moved to the Ars Controle namespace, with its functionality fully replicated.[24]
- 4.5.0: Added the Ride and Feed glyphs and the "Random" filter. A band-aid fix also stops worlds from breaking when you upgrade the spellbinder, which wasn't meant to be possible.[24]
- 4.4.0: Book Threads were renamed Book Covers. Spellbinders now open the Glyph Unlock Screen instead of being placed on the Scribing Table when you interact with them. The missing lang entry for the empty spellbinder was fixed.[24]
- 4.4.0: Reverse Direction was renamed Redirect Placement to better reflect what it does. It is now more consistent with Rotate and supports Sensitive and Amplify, so you get more precise control over the redirection.[24]
There are no pack changelog entries for this mod, so I can't point to anything the pack itself changed in it.[23]
