What is Gateways To Eternity?

Gateways To Eternity is included in the pack at version 5.0.4, built for Minecraft 1.21.1 (the jar is GatewaysToEternity-1.21.1-5.0.4.jar). It has been part of the pack since version 2.2 or earlier, so it's a long-standing member of the mod list.[1]

Unverified The sources I have don't describe what the mod does in this pack, who it is aimed at, or where it fits in the progression. There is no guidebook, quest or platform description to confirm any of that, so I'm not guessing. Check back once more information has been added.

How do you get started with Gateways To Eternity?

5 parts

Everything in Gateways To Eternity starts with the Gate Pearl. You use it on a block to summon a Gateway, so making a Gate Pearl is your first step in this pack.[2]

Know what the pearl does

A Gate Pearl can only be used when the new Gateway would not be too close to another Gateway, based on the current spacing. So pick an open spot before you use it.[2]

Once a Gateway is open, it fails in a burst of lightning if any of these happen:[2]

  • It cannot spawn a mob.[2]
  • Any active mob walks too far away.[2]
  • The wave timer elapses.[2]

Rewards spawn from the Gateway as they are obtained, so you do not have to wait for the very end to see them.[2]

Craft your first pearl

This pack gives you a separate recipe for each kind of Gate Pearl. The Emerald Grove recipe has the shortest ingredient list in the pack, so it is a friendly place to start. Here it is exactly as the pack has it:[3]

The basic pearls

The basic recipes each use a different set of ingredients, so check what you already have in your storage before you choose one.[3]

The endless pearl

There is also an endless recipe. The Endless Modifier tooltips show that endless Gateways carry modifiers, and the pack's recipe for it is here:[2][3]

Save the big ones for later

The Hellish Fortress and Overworldian Nights recipes have the longest ingredient lists of all the Gate Pearl recipes in the pack. I would leave them until you have a few simpler pearls behind you.[3]

Tip: Before you spend materials on a pearl, find an open spot with plenty of room. The pearl cannot be used if the new Gateway would be too close to another one.[2]

How does Gateways To Eternity work?

4 parts

The sources for Gateways To Eternity in this pack revolve around the Gate Pearl. They don't describe machines, multiblocks, power or fluids for this mod, so this section covers what they do confirm: how you summon a Gateway, how an open Gateway can fail, and how Gate Pearls are made.[2][3]

Summoning a Gateway

You summon a Gateway by using a Gate Pearl on a block. There's a spacing rule too: the pearl only works if the new Gateway wouldn't be too close to another Gateway, based on the current spacing.[2]

Tip: If a pearl refuses to work, the new Gateway would be too close to another Gateway. Move further away and try again.[2]

How an open Gateway can fail

An open Gateway fails in a burst of lightning when any of the following happens.[2]

  • The Gateway cannot spawn a mob.[2]
  • Any active mob walks too far away.[2]
  • The wave timer elapses.[2]
Watch out: Don't kite mobs far from the Gateway, because that alone can make it fail. Keep the fight close and watch the wave timer.[2]

Rewards spawn from the Gateway as they are obtained, so you don't have to wait for the whole event to finish.[2]

Endless Modifiers

The mod has tooltip text for Endless Modifiers: one tooltip shows a modifier number out of a total, and another shows how many Endless Modifiers there are. The sources don't explain what the modifiers do.[2]

Crafting Gate Pearls

In this pack, Gate Pearls come from recipes of the gateways gate recipe type, and each recipe is its own way to make the pearl. Here is each one as the pack defines it.[3]

Unverified The sources here don't show which Gateway, mobs, waves or rewards each recipe produces, or the actual spacing and wave timer values. The pack has no config files for this mod in the sources, so these details can't be confirmed here.

How do you progress through Gateways To Eternity?

3 parts

The sources for this pack don't show a tier ladder for Gateways To Eternity. The recipe dump shows the mod making one item, the Gate Pearl. Every recipe listed is a gate recipe, and each one turns its own set of ingredients into a Gate Pearl.[3]

The only structure the sources give you is in the recipe ids. They fall into a basic/ group, an endless/ recipe, and standalone names. The sources don't rank these groups against each other, so use them to sort the recipes, not as a progression order.[3]

Basic gate pearls

The recipe ids with the basic/ prefix are named after blaze, enderman and slime. Here are the in-pack recipes for each one.[3]

Endless gate pearl

There is also a blaze recipe filed under endless/. Its id keeps it apart from the basic blaze recipe, but the sources don't say how these gateways differ in difficulty or rewards.[3]

Named gate pearls

The remaining recipes use standalone names: Emerald Grove, Hellish Fortress and Overworldian Nights. The sources don't place them in any tier order, so pick whichever gateway you want and check its recipe first.[3]

Tip: Look at the recipe blocks above before you start gathering. Each Gate Pearl recipe has its own ingredient list, and several entries accept any item from a shared tag, such as any ender pearl or any blaze rod.[3]

What changed in Gateways To Eternity between versions?

1 part

Gateways To Eternity has been in All the Mods 10 since release 2.2 or earlier. In All the Mods 10 4.10 you get version 5.0.4 of the mod.[1]

Pack releases that changed the mod

  • All the Mods 10 2.47: updated from 5.0.2 to 5.0.3.[4]
  • All the Mods 10 4.3: updated from 5.0.3 to 5.0.4.[5]

There have been no changes to the mod's version since 4.3, so 4.10 still ships the 5.0.4 build.[1][5]

Unverified The pack changelogs only record the version bumps, not what changed inside the mod. The mod's own changelogs for these versions aren't available, so what 5.0.3 and 5.0.4 changed in gameplay, and whether the pack altered any Gateways To Eternity values or recipes, is unverified.
