What is Gateways To Eternity?

2 parts

Gateways To Eternity is all about wave-based combat. A Gateway throws waves of monsters at you, and if you survive to the final wave you walk away with rewards. In this pack you'll mostly run into it through Apotheosis, which hooks its World Tier system straight into Gateways, so this mod is a big part of Apotheosis progression.[1]

This pack runs Gateways To Eternity version 5.1.0 for Minecraft 1.21.1, and the mod has been in the pack since version 2.25 or earlier.[2]

Where it fits in your progression

Your first real contact with Gateways comes in the Apotheosis Gear quest chapter, once you've reached World Tier: Frontier. That's where the a quest in "Apotheosis Gear" quest asks you for a Gate Pearl.[1]

  • Every World Tier except Haven has its own Gateway, and each one sends waves of monsters and Invaders at you.[1]
  • A World Tier Gateway only works while you're in its matching World Tier.[1]
  • Beat the final wave and you get a variety of rewards that help you finish that World Tier.[1]
  • Unlike other Gateways, these give you a total of 3 lives to work with.[1]

The Pinnacle Gateway endgame

Once you've reached World Tier: Pinnacle, the a quest in "Apotheosis Gear" quest points you to a special Gate Pearl. You don't get this one like other Gate Pearls. It comes from clearing the Pinnacle Gateway, and that fight means taking down Craig the Eternal, a creature with a LOT of health.[1]

This Gateway is an endless challenge. The waves keep scaling up, and you get less and less time between them. It can spawn Invaders from any dimension, not just the one you're standing in. That also means you can pick up gems that are normally locked to other dimensions, like Endersurge Gems outside of The End.[1]

Tip: If you're chasing dimension-exclusive gems but don't want to go dimension-hopping, the Pinnacle Gateway can drop them anywhere, since its Invaders come from every dimension.[1]

Unverified The quest text hints at a special reward for beating 100 waves of the Pinnacle Gateway, but the available information doesn't say what that reward is.

How do you get started with Gateways To Eternity?

3 parts

Everything in this mod starts with one item: the Gate Pearl. You use a Gate Pearl on a block to summon a Gateway, which sends waves of mobs at you and drops rewards as you earn them.[3]

Your first Gate Pearls

The mod has its own set of Gate Pearl recipes, and the pack keeps them as they are. Each one crafts a Gate Pearl, and the recipe name hints at the Gateway it's for. Check the recipes below, see which ingredients you already have, and craft that one first.[4]

Unverified The sources don't say which of these Gateways is the easiest, so it's unconfirmed which one makes the best first fight.

Before you open one

Gateways can fail, so it pays to know the rules before you use that pearl.[3]

  • You can only place a Gateway where it wouldn't be too close to another Gateway, based on the current spacing setting.[3]
  • An open Gateway fails in a burst of lightning if it can't spawn a mob.[3]
  • It also fails if any active mob walks too far away.[3]
  • It also fails if the wave timer runs out before you finish the wave.[3]
  • Rewards spawn from the Gateway as you earn them, so stay close to collect them.[3]
Tip: Since a Gateway fails when a mob wanders too far or the wave timer runs out, open it somewhere you can keep the mobs close and kill them fast.[3]

Tiered Gateways with Apotheosis

In this pack, Apotheosis is integrated with Gateways. There's a Gateway for each World Tier except Haven, with waves of monsters and Invaders. You can only use each one within its own World Tier. Beat the final wave and you get a variety of rewards that help you finish that World Tier. Unlike other Gateways, you get a total of 3 lives for these.[1]

Your first one shows up in the quest a quest in "Apotheosis Gear", which unlocks after World Tier: Frontier. The pack changed the recipes for these tiered Gate Pearls, so craft yours from the in-pack recipe, starting with Frontier.[1][4]

There's a long-term goal too. Clearing the Pinnacle Gateway gives you a special Gate Pearl, tracked by the quest a quest in "Apotheosis Gear", but it costs you Craig the Eternal, a creature with a LOT of health. That Gateway sends an endless stream of scaling waves, with less and less time between them. It can spawn Invaders from any dimension, so you can get gems that normally only drop in other dimensions, such as Endersurge Gems outside of The End. The quest hints at something special if you beat 100 waves.[1]

How does Gateways To Eternity work?

3 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 4.14 guide

Gateways To Eternity is built around a single item: the Gate Pearl. You use it on a block to summon a Gateway, and that Gateway is the encounter you then have to survive.[3]

Opening a Gateway

A Gate Pearl only works if the new Gateway would not be too close to another Gateway, based on the current spacing. If it will not place, move away from existing Gateways and try again.[3]

Once a Gateway is open, rewards spawn from it as they are obtained, so you do not have to wait until the end to see loot.[3]

Watch out: An open Gateway fails in a burst of lightning if it cannot spawn a mob, if any active mob walks too far away, or if the wave timer elapses.[3]

Endless Gateways

The mod's tooltips include an Endless Modifier counter and a total count of Endless Modifiers, so you can check the modifiers on an endless Gateway from its tooltip.[3]

Crafting Gate Pearls

There is no single Gate Pearl recipe in this pack. Many different recipes produce the same item. The mod's own recipes use its gate recipe type, and the pack adds more shaped crafting recipes on top.[5]

How do you progress through Gateways To Eternity?

3 parts

In this pack, Gateways To Eternity is tied closely to Apotheosis World Tiers. Every gateway starts as a Gate Pearl. The pearl you craft decides which gateway you open, so your progression comes down to which pearls you can make and which World Tier you're in.[1][4]

Starter gateways

These gateways use the mod's own recipes, and the pack hasn't changed them. You can craft these pearls with the gateway recipe type, and none of them depend on a World Tier.[4]

World Tier gateways

The real progression starts in the Apotheosis Gear quest chapter. Quest a quest in "Apotheosis Gear" unlocks once you reach the Frontier World Tier, and its task is a Gate Pearl. From there, Apotheosis has a gateway for each World Tier except Haven. Each one throws waves of monsters and Invaders at you.[1]

The big catch: you can only use each of these gateways in its own World Tier. Beat the final wave and you get a variety of rewards meant to help you finish that tier.[1]

Watch out: World Tier gateways don't play by the usual gateway rules. You get a total of 3 lives, so bring gear that keeps you alive through every wave.[1]

The pack changed all four tiered Gate Pearl recipes: Frontier, Ascent, Summit and Pinnacle. Check the recipes below instead of relying on any Apotheosis defaults you may know from other packs. The Frontier pearl uses common mob drops, while the Ascent, Summit and Pinnacle pearls need Apotheosis materials.[4]

Pinnacle tier gateway

Unverified The exact order of the Ascent and Summit tiers, and the full reward list for each tiered gateway, aren't shown in the available sources.

The endless gateway

The last step is quest a quest in "Apotheosis Gear". It needs the earlier gateway quest and the Pinnacle World Tier. You can't craft this Gate Pearl. You get it by clearing the Pinnacle Gateway, and it comes with the sacrifice of Craig the Eternal, a creature with a huge amount of health.[1]

This gateway spawns an endless stream of waves. They keep getting stronger, with less and less time between each one. It can spawn Invaders from any dimension, not only the one you're standing in. That means you can get gems that are normally exclusive to other dimensions, like Endersurge Gems outside The End.[1]

Tip: The quest hints at a special reward if you can survive 100 waves, so pick a spot you can defend for a long fight.[1]

Unverified The quest text doesn't say what the reward for beating 100 waves is.

How does Gateways To Eternity work with other mods?

3 parts

Gateways To Eternity's biggest link in this pack is with Apotheosis. The pack ties Gateways into Apotheosis's World Tier system: there are Gateways based on each World Tier (except Haven), and they throw waves of monsters and Invaders at you.[1]

World Tier Gateways

Each of these Gateways only works inside its own World Tier, so you can't bring a high-tier gate down to an easier tier. Beat the final wave and you get a mix of rewards meant to help you finish that World Tier.[1]

Watch out: Unlike other Gateways, these tiered ones give you a total of 3 lives to work with. Gear up before you open one.[1]

The quest that introduces these gates asks you for a Gate Pearl and unlocks once you reach the Frontier World Tier. It's a quest in "Apotheosis Gear" in the Apotheosis Gear chapter.[1]

Crafting the tiered Gate Pearls

The tiered Gate Pearls are crafted from Apotheosis materials, and the Pinnacle one also needs items from Apothic Enchanting. The pack has changed all three of these recipes from their defaults, so check the in-pack versions below rather than an older guide.[4]

Pinnacle tier Gate Pearl

The endless Pinnacle challenge

There's a follow-up quest, a quest in "Apotheosis Gear", that unlocks after the first Gateways quest and the Pinnacle World Tier. It asks for a special Gate Pearl that you get by clearing the Pinnacle Gateway, not by crafting it.[1]

This one involves Craig the Eternal, a creature with a LOT of health. The gateway summons an endless stream of waves that keep scaling up, with less and less time between each one.[1]

Here's the fun part: it can spawn Invaders from ANY dimension, not just the one you opened it in. That means you can get gems that normally only drop in other dimensions, like Endersurge Gems outside of The End.[1]

The quest also teases a reward if you manage to beat 100 waves.[1]

Unverified What exactly you get for beating 100 waves of the endless Pinnacle gateway is not stated in the available quest text.

Which All the Mods 10 quests use Gateways To Eternity?

2 parts

Gateways shows up in the pack's "Apotheosis Gear" quest chapter. The pack hooks Gateways into its World Tier system, and the chapter has two quests that both ask you to get a Gate Pearl. You do them in order as you climb the World Tiers.[1]

Step 1: Your first World Tier Gateway

a quest in "Apotheosis Gear" unlocks after the World Tier: Frontier quest and asks for a Gate Pearl. The quest explains that every World Tier except Haven has its own Gateway, which throws waves of monsters and Invaders at you. You can only use each of these Gateways within its own World Tier.[1]

Beat the final wave and you get a variety of rewards meant to help you finish that World Tier. These Gateways also work differently from normal ones: you get a total of 3 lives for the whole run, so don't treat it as a free retry.[1]

Step 2: The Pinnacle Gateway

a quest in "Apotheosis Gear" needs both a quest in "Apotheosis Gear" and the World Tier: Pinnacle quest done first. It also asks for a Gate Pearl, but this one works differently. You get it by clearing the Pinnacle Gateway, and doing that means sacrificing Craig the Eternal, a creature with a huge amount of health.[1]

The Pinnacle Gateway is endless. The waves keep getting stronger, and you get less and less time between them. It can also spawn Invaders from any dimension, not just the one you're standing in. That means you can pick up gems that normally only drop in other dimensions without travelling there.[1]

Tip: The Pinnacle quest mentions a reward if you can beat 100 waves, so if you're farming this Gateway, that's the milestone to aim for.[1]

Unverified The quest text cuts off before saying what you get for beating 100 waves of the Pinnacle Gateway, so that reward isn't confirmed here.

What changed in Gateways To Eternity between versions?

1 part

Gateways To Eternity has been in All the Mods 10 since version 2.2 or earlier, and All the Mods 10 5.5 ships version 5.1.0 of it (the 1.21.1 build).[2]

Version bumps in the pack changelogs

  • All the Mods 10 2.47: updated from 5.0.2 to 5.0.3.[6]
  • All the Mods 10 4.3: updated from 5.0.3 to 5.0.4.[7]
  • All the Mods 10 4.11: updated from 5.0.4 to 5.1.0. This is the version the pack still uses in 5.5.[2][8]

Unverified The pack changelogs only record the version numbers, and there are no stored changelogs for the shipped jars. What changed inside the mod in 5.0.3, 5.0.4 and 5.1.0 (gameplay, balance, fixes) is unverified here, so check the mod's own release notes before relying on any specific change.
