What is Gateways To Eternity?

1 part

Gateways To Eternity is in this pack at version 5.1.0, and it's been part of the pack since version 2.25 or earlier.[1]

In this pack, Gateways is tied into Apotheosis. There's a Gateway for each Apotheosis World Tier except Haven. Each one throws waves of monsters and Invaders at you, and you can only use it in its own World Tier. Beat the final wave and you get a mix of rewards that help you finish that World Tier.[2]

Watch out: These World Tier Gateways work differently from other Gateways: you get a total of 3 lives to clear them, so don't treat a run as free.[2]

That makes this mod mainly for combat-focused players who are pushing through Apotheosis World Tiers and want a challenge that pays off in gear progress.[2]

Where it fits in progression

  1. Your first Gateways quest is a quest in "Apotheosis Gear" in the Apotheosis Gear chapter. It unlocks after you reach the Frontier World Tier and asks you to get a Gate Pearl.[2]
  2. Later, a quest in "Apotheosis Gear" unlocks after that quest and after you reach the Pinnacle World Tier. This one also asks for a Gate Pearl. Unlike other Gate Pearls, you get this one by clearing the Pinnacle Gateway, and it involves Craig the Eternal, a creature with a lot of health.[2]

The Pinnacle-tier Gateway is the endgame test. It summons an endless stream of waves that keep scaling, with less and less time between each one. It can spawn Invaders from any dimension, not just the one you're in. That means you can get gems that are normally exclusive to other dimensions, such as Endersurge Gems outside of The End.[2]

Unverified The quest text hints at a special reward for beating 100 waves of the Pinnacle-tier Gateway, but the text is cut off, so what you actually get is not confirmed.

How do you get started with Gateways To Eternity?

4 parts

Everything in this mod starts with one item: the Gate Pearl. Use it on a block and it summons a Gateway, a portal that throws waves of monsters at you. Each recipe in this section makes a Gate Pearl for a different Gateway, so your first job is picking which fight you want and crafting that pearl.[3][4]

Know the rules before you open one

  • You can only place a new Gateway if it isn't too close to another Gateway, based on the current spacing.[4]
  • An open Gateway fails in a burst of lightning if it can't spawn a mob, if an active mob walks too far away, or if the wave timer runs out.[4]
  • Rewards spawn from the Gateway as you earn them, so stay close to collect your loot.[4]
Tip: Because a mob that wanders too far makes the Gateway fail, open your first Gateways somewhere enclosed where mobs can't run off or get stuck out of reach.[4]

Your first Gate Pearls

The pack keeps the mod's own Gateway recipes. The basic Gateways are a good place to start: there are Slime, Enderman and Blaze versions, each with its own Gate Pearl recipe.[3]

Apotheosis World Tier Gateways

In this pack, Apotheosis is integrated with Gateways. There are Gateways for each World Tier except Haven, and they bring waves of monsters and Invaders. You can only use each one within its own World Tier. Beat the final wave and you get a variety of rewards that help you finish that World Tier. Unlike other Gateways, you get a total of 3 lives for these.[2]

The quest a quest in "Apotheosis Gear" introduces these Gateways once you've reached World Tier: Frontier. The tiered Gate Pearl recipes are shaped crafting recipes that the pack changed, so use the recipes shown here rather than any defaults you remember from other packs.[2][3]

The endgame pearl

The quest a quest in "Apotheosis Gear" follows the Frontier quest and World Tier: Pinnacle. Its Gate Pearl isn't crafted: you get it by clearing the Pinnacle Gateway, and it comes with Craig the Eternal, a creature with a lot of health. This Gateway summons an endless stream of scaling waves with less and less time between each one. It can spawn Invaders from any dimension, so you can even get gems normally exclusive to other dimensions, such as Endersurge Gems outside of The End. The quest teases a reward for beating 100 waves.[2]

Unverified The sources don't say what the reward for beating 100 waves of this endless Gateway actually is.

How does Gateways To Eternity work?

3 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 4.14 guide

Gateways To Eternity is built around a single item: the Gate Pearl. You use it on a block to summon a Gateway, and that Gateway is the encounter you then have to survive.[4]

Opening a Gateway

A Gate Pearl only works if the new Gateway would not be too close to another Gateway, based on the current spacing. If it will not place, move away from existing Gateways and try again.[4]

Once a Gateway is open, rewards spawn from it as they are obtained, so you do not have to wait until the end to see loot.[4]

Watch out: An open Gateway fails in a burst of lightning if it cannot spawn a mob, if any active mob walks too far away, or if the wave timer elapses.[4]

Endless Gateways

The mod's tooltips include an Endless Modifier counter and a total count of Endless Modifiers, so you can check the modifiers on an endless Gateway from its tooltip.[4]

Crafting Gate Pearls

There is no single Gate Pearl recipe in this pack. Many different recipes produce the same item. The mod's own recipes use its gate recipe type, and the pack adds more shaped crafting recipes on top.[5]

How do you progress through Gateways To Eternity?

4 parts

In this pack, Gate Pearls aren't just a side activity. Apotheosis is integrated with Gateways, so there's a Gateway for each World Tier except Haven. Each one throws waves of monsters and Invaders at you, and clearing the final wave gives you a batch of rewards that help you finish that World Tier.[2]

How the tiered Gateways work

  • Each tiered Gateway only works inside its own World Tier, so you can't open a higher-tier Gateway early to skip ahead.[2]
  • Unlike other Gateways, the tiered ones give you a total of 3 lives, so a single death won't end your run.[2]
  • Haven is the one World Tier without its own Gateway.[2]

The quest line follows this progression. Once you reach World Tier: Frontier, a quest in "Apotheosis Gear" opens up and asks you to obtain a Gate Pearl. That quest introduces the tiered Gateway system. After you've completed it and reached World Tier: Pinnacle, a quest in "Apotheosis Gear" becomes available. It points you toward the final endless Gate Pearl.[2]

Crafting the tiered Gate Pearls

The tiered Gate Pearls use shaped crafting recipes that the pack has changed, so don't rely on older guides or the mod defaults. The recipe blocks below show the exact in-pack recipes for the Frontier, Ascent, Summit and Pinnacle pearls.[3]

Pinnacle tier Gate Pearl

Unverified The sources don't confirm the exact order of the Ascent and Summit tiers relative to each other, or which Gateway rewards unlock the next tier's crafting materials. Check the in-game World Tier screen to confirm the order.

The endless Pinnacle reward

The last Gate Pearl works differently from the others. You don't craft it. You get it by clearing the Pinnacle Gateway. The quest warns that it involves Craig the Eternal, a creature with a lot of health, so come prepared.[2]

This Gateway sends an endless stream of waves. Each wave scales up, and the time between waves keeps getting shorter. It can spawn Invaders from any dimension, not only the one you're standing in. That means you can get gems that normally only drop in other dimensions, such as Endersurge Gems outside of The End.[2]

Tip: If you're after gems from a dimension you don't want to farm in, the endless Pinnacle Gateway is worth it, because its Invaders aren't limited to your current dimension.[2]

Unverified The quest mentions a special reward for beating 100 waves of the endless Gateway, but the sources don't say what it is.

Other Gateways in the pack

Besides the tiered pearls, the pack keeps the standard Gateways recipes from the mod, unchanged. These are made with the mod's own gate recipe type rather than normal crafting. They aren't tied to the World Tier quest line, so you can check them out whenever the materials fit your progress.[3]

How does Gateways To Eternity work with other mods?

3 parts

Gateways To Eternity's biggest partner in this pack is Apotheosis. The quests say it plainly: Apotheosis is now integrated with Gateways, with a Gateway for each World Tier except Haven. Each one throws waves of monsters and Invaders at you.[2]

World Tier Gateways

These World Tier Gateways follow a few special rules, so read them before you open one. You can only use each Gateway inside its own World Tier. Beating the final wave gives you a variety of rewards that help you finish that World Tier.[2]

Watch out: Unlike other Gateways, these give you a total of 3 lives, so plan your gear and your escape route before you start.[2]

The questline for this starts in the Apotheosis Gear chapter with a quest in "Apotheosis Gear". It asks you to get a Gate Pearl and unlocks after you reach the Frontier World Tier.[2]

Crafting the tiered Gate Pearls

This pack changes three tiered Gate Pearl recipes. They are all crafted with Apotheosis materials, and the top tier also needs items from Apothic Enchanting. That makes your Apotheosis progression the thing that unlocks these Gateways. The recipes below show exactly what each one needs in this pack.[3]

The highest tier also uses Apothic Enchanting items.

Unverified The recipe ids suggest these pearls match the Ascent, Summit and Pinnacle World Tiers, but the sources don't say directly which pearl opens which tier's Gateway.

The endless Pinnacle challenge

a quest in "Apotheosis Gear" needs both the earlier quest and the Pinnacle World Tier. It points to one more Gate Pearl, and you can't craft this one. You get it by clearing the Pinnacle Gateway, and it costs the sacrifice of Craig the Eternal, a creature with a LOT of health.[2]

This Gateway summons an endless stream of waves that keep scaling up, with less and less time between each one. It can spawn Invaders from any dimension, not just the one you're standing in. That means you can pick up gems that are normally locked to other dimensions, like Endersurge Gems outside The End.[2]

Tip: The quest teases a special reward if you can beat 100 waves, so this is the long-term goal for anyone pushing Apotheosis to its limit.[2]

Unverified The quest text cuts off before it names the reward for beating 100 waves, so what you actually get is unconfirmed.

Which All the Mods 10 quests use Gateways To Eternity?

3 parts

In this pack, Gateways To Eternity shows up in the "Apotheosis Gear" quest chapter. It has two quests, and both ask you to get a Gate Pearl. They tie into Apotheosis World Tiers, so the order follows your World Tier progression.[2]

Quest order

  1. a quest in "Apotheosis Gear" unlocks after the World Tier: Frontier quest and asks you to obtain a Gate Pearl.[2]
  2. a quest in "Apotheosis Gear" unlocks after both a quest in "Apotheosis Gear" and the World Tier: Pinnacle quest, and also asks for a Gate Pearl.[2]

World Tier Gateways

The first quest introduces how Apotheosis is integrated with Gateways here. There's a Gateway for each World Tier except Haven. Each one throws waves of monsters and Invaders at you, and it can only be used within its own World Tier. Beat the final wave and you get a variety of rewards meant to help you finish that World Tier.[2]

Tip: Unlike other Gateways, these World Tier Gateways give you a total of 3 lives, so a single slip doesn't have to end your run.[2]

The Pinnacle Gateway

The second quest covers a special Gate Pearl. Unlike other Gate Pearls, you get it by clearing the Pinnacle Gateway, and doing that means taking down Craig the Eternal, a creature with a lot of health.[2]

This Gateway summons an endless stream of increasingly scaling waves, with less and less time between each one. It can spawn Invaders from any dimension, not just the one you're in. That means you can pick up gems that are normally exclusive to other dimensions, like Endersurge Gems outside of The End.[2]

The quest teases a reward for surviving 100 waves, so that's the big goal to aim for once you're ready.[2]

Unverified The quest text cuts off before saying what you actually get for beating 100 waves of the Pinnacle Gateway, so that reward is unconfirmed.

What changed in Gateways To Eternity between versions?

Here's how Gateways To Eternity has moved through the pack. All the Mods 10 4.15 ships version 5.1.0, and the mod has been in the pack since All the Mods 10 2.2 or earlier.[1]

  • All the Mods 10 2.47: updated from 5.0.2 to 5.0.3.[6]
  • All the Mods 10 4.3: updated from 5.0.3 to 5.0.4.[7]
  • All the Mods 10 4.11: updated from 5.0.4 to 5.1.0, which is still the version in 4.15.[1][8]

The pack changelogs only record these version bumps, so that's the full picture I can confirm.[6][7][8]

Unverified The detailed changes (new features, fixes or balance tweaks) in Gateways To Eternity 5.0.3, 5.0.4 and 5.1.0 couldn't be confirmed from the available sources, and no changelogs are stored for the shipped jars.
