What is Crystalix?

2 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Crystalix is a building and decoration mod that adds colored glass blocks with a lot of different functions. The pack includes version 3.0.0. It's a great pick if you like detailed builds, or if you want glass that does more than look pretty.[1][2]

Since version 2.3.0 there are only 3 kinds of glass, and you can apply any color to any of them. That gives you a huge number of color combinations without a crowded creative menu.[1]

The Crystalix Wand

The wand is how you customize your glass. You hold V by default to open a config window, then cycle through the properties to set them on a block. Left clicking or scrolling down cycles forwards, and right clicking or scrolling up cycles backwards.[1]

  • Crouch to edit all connecting blocks at once.[1]
  • Hold CTRL to apply properties without changing the color.[1]
  • Press X to copy the properties from the block you're currently targeting onto the wand.[1]

What the properties can do

Properties can be mixed however you like. You can make a block invisible, fully transparent with only a few colored specks, waterloggable, or shadeless. You can also make it emit a redstone signal of 15, or let it conduct redstone like a solid block.[1]

Reinforced blocks are indestructible to everything, including the wither and the ender dragon, except for a player mining them. Mining them is also 10x harder. The Ghost property lets chosen groups pass through the block, such as only players or only hostile mobs. The Light property can make a block glow at light level 15, block light like tinted glass, or glow at 15 while still allowing mob spawns.[1]

Unverified Where Crystalix fits in this pack's progression is unconfirmed. The available sources show no quests for it and no place on the ATM Star path, so treat it as an optional building and decoration mod.

How do you get started with Crystalix?

4 parts

Crystalix adds colored glass blocks that can do a lot more than look nice. Everything in the mod comes down to two things: a few types of glass to place, and the Crystalix Wand to give them color and special properties. Here's the order to tackle them in.[1][3]

Step 1: Craft some glass

Start by making a stack of glass. The mod has 3 types of glass: Crystalix Glass, Clear Crystalix Glass and Bordered Crystalix Glass. All three are shaped recipes at a normal crafting table, and this pack uses the mod's own recipes for them.[1][3]

Pick whichever style you like best. You can apply any color to any type of glass, so the type you choose sets the look, not the color. You'll add color later with the wand.[1]

Step 2: Craft the Crystalix Wand

Next, make the Crystalix Wand. This is the tool that gives your glass its functions: it cycles through all the possible properties and sets them on a block. Make your glass first, because the wand is only useful once you have glass to edit. Like the glass, it's a shaped crafting table recipe that this pack keeps as the mod's own.[1][3]

Step 3: Learn the wand controls

  • Hold V to open the wand's config window, where you choose which property to set. V is the default key.[1]
  • Left-click or scroll down to cycle forwards through a property's options. Right-click or scroll up to cycle backwards.[1]
  • Crouch while using the wand to edit all connecting blocks at once.[1]
  • Hold CTRL to apply only the properties and leave the block's color alone.[1]
  • Press X to copy the properties of the block you're looking at onto the wand.[1]
Tip: Once you've set up one block the way you want, press X on it to copy its properties. Then crouch while applying them to update a whole connected wall in one go.[1]

First properties worth trying

You can mix and match properties however you like. Here are some good ones to experiment with first.[1]

  • Color opens a color picker, so you can give your glass any color you like.[1]
  • Light mode makes the glass glow at light level 15. Dark mode blocks light the same way tinted glass does.[1]
  • Reinforced makes the block indestructible to everything, including the wither and the ender dragon. The only exception is the player mining it.[1]
  • Redstone makes the block emit a redstone signal of 15. Conductor lets redstone pass through it like a solid block.[1]
  • Ghost lets things pass through the block. You can choose who gets through, for example only players, or everything except hostile mobs.[1]
  • Invisibility hides the block while keeping its properties, and Waterloggable sets whether the block can be waterlogged.[1]
Watch out: Two settings can catch you out. The Fake Light mode glows at level 15 but still lets mobs spawn, so pick the regular Light mode for safe lighting. Reinforced also makes the block 10x harder for you to mine.[1]

Unverified It's not confirmed whether this pack changes the wand's default keybinds or whether they clash with keys used by other mods. If V or X doesn't work, check your controls menu.

How does Crystalix work?

5 parts

Crystalix is all about glass blocks with many different functions. You don't get a big pile of separate blocks. Instead, you take a small set of glass types and customise each block with color and a stack of toggleable properties, all set with one tool.[1]

The three glass types

The mod has only 3 different versions of glass: Crystalix Glass, Clear Crystalix Glass and Bordered Crystalix Glass. You can apply any color to any type, so you get an endless range of color combinations out of just these three blocks.[1][3]

In this pack, all three glass types and the wand use the mod's own crafting table recipes.[3]

The Crystalix Wand

The Crystalix Wand is how you customise your glass. You can cycle through the possible properties directly with the wand, or open its config window to set a block's properties there.[1]

  • Left clicking or scrolling down cycles forwards through the options. Right clicking or scrolling up cycles backwards.[1]
  • Hold V (the default key) to open the wand's config window.[1]
  • Crouch while using the wand to edit all connecting blocks at once, which is perfect for big windows or walls.[1]
  • Hold CTRL to apply only the properties to a block, leaving its color alone.[1]
  • Press X to copy the properties of the block you're looking at onto the wand, so you can paste a finished setup onto other glass.[1]

Properties

This is where the real depth is. You can mix and match properties however you want on a single block, so one pane of glass can glow, emit redstone and let only certain mobs through, all at once.[1]

  • Invisibility makes the block invisible. It's useful when you want the glass's properties without a visible block in the way.[1]
  • Transparent makes the glass texture fully transparent, so the color only shows on the few specks on the glass.[1]
  • Waterloggable sets whether the block can be waterlogged or not.[1]
  • Reinforced makes the block indestructible to everything, including the Wither and the Ender Dragon. Only a player mining it can break it, and it becomes 10x harder to mine.[1]
  • Shadeless removes the shadows and shading from the block.[1]
  • Redstone makes the block emit a redstone signal of 15.[1]
  • Conductor makes the block conduct redstone through it like a solid block.[1]
  • Color opens a color picker screen where you can choose any color you like for the glass.[1]

Ghost mode

Ghost controls what can pass through the block. Each setting lets a different group walk through while everything else is still blocked, which turns plain glass into a selective barrier.[1]

  • Nothing or Everything[1]
  • Only Players or Everything except Players[1]
  • Only Hostile Mobs or Everything except Hostile Mobs[1]
  • Only Passive Mobs or Everything except Passive Mobs[1]

Light modes

  • None gives no special lighting property.[1]
  • Light makes the glass glow at a light level of 15.[1]
  • Dark blocks light the same way tinted glass does.[1]
  • Fake Light glows at a light level of 15 but still allows mobs to spawn.[1]
Tip: Watch out for the difference between Light and Fake Light. Both glow at level 15, but only Fake Light still lets mobs spawn, so pick Light when you want lighting that keeps an area safe.[1]

How do you progress through Crystalix?

2 parts

Crystalix doesn't have a long tier ladder in this pack. Everything it adds comes from four shaped crafting recipes, and all four are the mod's own recipes, so nothing here has been changed by the pack.[3]

Step 1: The glass blocks

Your starting point is the three decorative glass variants. Each is a single crafting-table recipe, and none depends on another, so you can make whichever look you want first.[3]

Step 2: The Crystalix Wand

The Crystalix Wand is the last item in the chain. Its recipe needs one of the mod's own blocks, so make some glass from step 1 before you head to the crafting table for it.[3]

Which All the Mods 10 quests use Crystalix?

2 parts

Crystalix has a single quest in the pack, and it sits in the Building Tips chapter, which is the pack's building and decoration chapter with 90 quests. The quest is "Crystalix" quest.[4]

Where it sits in the chapter

The chapter opens with "Building Tips!" quest. From there you go to "Blocks!" quest, which just asks you to get a block, any block. Next comes a quest in "Building Tips", which asks for Glass. The Crystalix quest comes straight after that glass quest.[4]

The glass quest is a branch point. Besides Crystalix, these quests also follow it: "Macaw's Windows" quest, a quest in "Building Tips", "Railcraft Glass" quest, "XyCraft Glass" quest, "Glassential" quest and "Chipped Glass" quest. You can take them in any order.[4]

What the Crystalix quest tells you

It is an item quest, and the quest data does not name which item it wants. The quest text says Crystalix is all about glass, and it explains the glass styles and properties.[4]

  • Normal glass has no borders or pixels, so it is entirely clear and one color.[4]
  • Clear glass has the borders but no pixels near the corners, so the inside is all clear.[4]
  • Bordered glass uses the normal Minecraft glass pattern, with borders and pixels near the corners.[4]

The quest text also says each Crystalix glass has its own properties:[4]

  • Shadeless changes how the glass reacts to shaders and to Minecraft lighting.[4]
  • Reinforced changes its blast resistance.[4]
  • Light decides whether it gives light, ignores light, or acts like normal glass and lets light in.[4]
  • Ghost changes who can walk through the glass. The quest says this one has the most settings.[4]

What changed in Crystalix between versions?

1 part

Crystalix has been in All the Mods 10 for a long time and has been updated steadily since it was added. In All the Mods 10 4.15 you're running Crystalix 2.1.0, shipped as crystalix-2.1.0.jar.[5]

The pack changelogs record which Crystalix version each release updated to, but not what changed in the mod itself. So this timeline shows when you got each new version, not what each update added or fixed.[6][7]

  • All the Mods 10 4.15: updated from 1.6.2 to 2.1.0.[6]
Tip: The most recent update is the biggest version jump so far: All the Mods 10 4.15 moved Crystalix from 1.6.2 straight to 2.1.0. If you're updating an existing world from an older pack release, take a quick look at your Crystalix builds and items afterwards.[6]

Unverified No mod changelogs were available for any of these Crystalix versions, including the jump to 2.1.0. Any new features, recipe changes, bug fixes or removals in these updates are unverified.
