What is Crystalix?

2 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Crystalix is a building and decoration mod that adds colored glass blocks with a lot of different functions. The pack includes version 3.0.0. It's a great pick if you like detailed builds, or if you want glass that does more than look pretty.[1][2]

Since version 2.3.0 there are only 3 kinds of glass, and you can apply any color to any of them. That gives you a huge number of color combinations without a crowded creative menu.[1]

The Crystalix Wand

The wand is how you customize your glass. You hold V by default to open a config window, then cycle through the properties to set them on a block. Left clicking or scrolling down cycles forwards, and right clicking or scrolling up cycles backwards.[1]

  • Crouch to edit all connecting blocks at once.[1]
  • Hold CTRL to apply properties without changing the color.[1]
  • Press X to copy the properties from the block you're currently targeting onto the wand.[1]

What the properties can do

Properties can be mixed however you like. You can make a block invisible, fully transparent with only a few colored specks, waterloggable, or shadeless. You can also make it emit a redstone signal of 15, or let it conduct redstone like a solid block.[1]

Reinforced blocks are indestructible to everything, including the wither and the ender dragon, except for a player mining them. Mining them is also 10x harder. The Ghost property lets chosen groups pass through the block, such as only players or only hostile mobs. The Light property can make a block glow at light level 15, block light like tinted glass, or glow at 15 while still allowing mob spawns.[1]

Unverified Where Crystalix fits in this pack's progression is unconfirmed. The available sources show no quests for it and no place on the ATM Star path, so treat it as an optional building and decoration mod.

How do you get started with Crystalix?

4 parts

The mod's project page describes Crystalix as adding colored glass blocks with many different functions. The mod revolves around the glass itself and a wand that sets what each block does. So your first steps are simple: get the wand, craft some glass, then start tweaking.[1]

Craft the Crystalix Wand

Start with the Crystalix Wand. The project page says it lets you cycle through the properties of a block in a config window, so it is the tool you will use on every piece of glass. The recipe below is the exact one used in this pack.[1][3]

Craft your first glass

Next, make some glass. This pack has a crafting recipe for each color in plain, clear and bordered styles. As an example, here is the recipe for crystalix:blue_crystalix_glass. The other colors follow the same pattern with a different dye.[3]

If you want the clear or bordered look, check out crystalix:blue_clear_crystalix_glass and crystalix:blue_bordered_crystalix_glass. Each one has its own recipe in the pack.[3]

Tint with a dye

The pack also has separate tinting recipes for each color and style. Here is the one for blue.[3]

Learn the wand controls

Once you hold the wand, these are the controls the mod describes (the config window key is the default):[1]

  • Hold V by default to open the config window, where you pick the properties and the color.[1]
  • Left clicking or scrolling down cycles forwards. Right clicking or scrolling up cycles backwards.[1]
  • Crouching lets you edit all connecting blocks at once.[1]
  • Holding CTRL applies only the properties, not the color.[1]
  • Pressing X copies the properties from the block you're currently targeting onto the wand.[1]
  • The mod also has a Cycle Reinforced Mode keybind.[4]

Properties can be mixed however you like. Some of the useful ones: Invisibility, Transparent, Waterloggable, Shadeless, Redstone (emits a signal of 15), Conductor, Ghost (lets chosen entities pass through) and Light, which has None, Light, Dark and Fake Light modes.[1]

Watch out: Reinforced makes a block indestructible to everything, including the wither and the ender dragon. Only a player can mine it, and it is 10x harder to mine. Think before you apply it to a big build.[1]

How does Crystalix work?

5 parts

Crystalix is a mod about colored glass blocks. Its project page describes no machines, multiblocks, power, fluids or item automation for it. All of the depth it describes comes from per-block properties that you set with a wand, so this section covers how that system works.[1]

Glass types and getting blocks

The mod's project page says the block variety was cut down, and that since 2.3.0 there are only 3 types of glass. Any color can be applied to any type, so you get a huge number of combinations. The recipes in this pack match that: each dye color has a plain, a clear and a bordered Crystalix glass. One example is crystalix:blue_crystalix_glass, next to crystalix:blue_clear_crystalix_glass and crystalix:blue_bordered_crystalix_glass.[1][3]

In this pack, the glass recipes are shaped crafting recipes that use a dye, an amethyst gem and a glass ingredient. The plain version takes any glass block, while the clear and bordered versions take items from the Crystalix glass tag. Here is one example.[3]

The Crystalix Wand

The project page describes the Crystalix Wand as the tool that does the work: you use it to cycle through the properties of a block, and you open its config window to set them. Here is how it is crafted in this pack.[1][3]

  • The project page says you hold V to open the config window by default.[1]
  • According to the project page, left clicking or scrolling down cycles forwards, and right clicking or scrolling up cycles backwards.[1]
  • The project page says crouching lets you edit all connecting blocks at once.[1]
  • The project page says holding CTRL applies only the properties and not the color.[1]
  • The project page says pressing X copies the properties of the block you're targeting onto the wand.[1]

Block properties

The project page says properties can be mixed and matched however you like. These are the ones it describes.[1]

  • Invisibility: the project page says the block becomes invisible, which is useful when you want the properties of the glass without a visible block.[1]
  • Transparent: the project page says the texture becomes fully transparent, and color is only applied to a few specks on the glass.[1]
  • Waterloggable: sets whether the block can be waterlogged.[1]
  • Reinforced: the project page describes the block as indestructible to everything, including the wither and the ender dragon, except for a player mining it. It also makes the block 10x harder to mine.[1]
  • Shadeless: the project page says it removes the shadows and shade from the block.[1]
  • Redstone: the project page says the block emits a redstone signal of 15.[1]
  • Conductor: the project page says redstone conducts through the block like it would through a solid block.[1]
  • Color: opens the color picker, so you can apply any color you like.[1]

Ghost and Light modes

On the project page, Ghost makes the block passable for a group of entities that you choose. The options listed are Nothing, Everything, Only Players, Everything except Players, Only Hostile Mobs, Everything except Hostile Mobs, Only Passive Mobs, and Everything except Passive Mobs.[1]

The project page says Light cycles through these modes. None has no special property. Light glows at a light level of 15. Dark blocks light the same way tinted glass does. Fake Light glows at a light level of 15 but still allows mobs to spawn.[1]

Watch out: Reinforced blocks are indestructible to everything except a player mining them, and that mining is 10x harder. Think twice before reinforcing a block you might want to remove quickly.[1]

What the sources don't confirm

The mod's language file lists a keybind called Cycle Reinforced Mode.[4]

Unverified There are no config files for this mod in the pack's sources, so whether the pack changes any of the property values above is not shown here. The values in this section come from the mod's project page.

How do you progress through Crystalix?

4 parts

Crystalix is a small decoration mod, so there is no tier ladder to climb here. What the pack gives you is colored glass blocks in plain, clear and bordered styles, plus one other item, the Crystalix Wand.[3]

Unverified The pack's quest book is where a progression order would be told, and the sources here do not show any Crystalix quest or guidebook entry. The order below comes from the recipes only, so treat it as a suggestion.

Step 1: plain colored glass

Plain glass is where you start. Each color has its own recipe, for example crystalix:black_crystalix_glass. It uses a dye of that color, an amethyst gem and any glass block, so ordinary glass is enough to begin.[3]

Black is just the example. The other colors in the recipe list follow the same pattern with their own dye.

Step 2: clear and bordered glass

The clear and bordered styles, such as crystalix:black_clear_crystalix_glass and crystalix:black_bordered_crystalix_glass, use the same dye and amethyst pattern. The difference is the glass input: instead of any glass block, they take an item from the mod's own glass tag.[3]

Recipe id: crystalix:black_clear_crystalix_glass

Clear glass uses a dye, an amethyst gem and an item from the mod's glass tag. The bordered style follows the same pattern.

Recoloring what you already have

You don't have to start over to change a color. Separate tinted recipes take a dye plus a Crystalix glass item of the matching style and give you the dyed version. They exist for the plain, clear and bordered styles.[3]

The wand

The Crystalix Wand is the one item in the recipes shown that is not glass. It is made from a stick and a nether star, so it is the one you will want to save for last.[3]

What changed in Crystalix between versions?

1 part

Crystalix has been in All the Mods 10 since version 2.32, and the pack has updated it several times since then. Version 2.41 ships Crystalix 1.2.2 for NeoForge 1.21.1.[5][6]

Pack release timeline

  • All the Mods 10 2.32: Crystalix was added to the pack at version 1.0.1.[5]
  • All the Mods 10 2.33: updated from 1.0.1 to 1.0.2.[7]
  • All the Mods 10 2.34: updated from 1.0.2 to 1.1.0.[8]
  • All the Mods 10 2.36: updated from 1.1.0 to 1.2.2.[9]

There have been no Crystalix version changes since 2.36, so 1.2.2 is still the version you get in 2.41.[6][9]

Unverified The pack changelogs only list version numbers. We have no stored changelog for the Crystalix jars, so what each update actually changed (new content, fixes, balance tweaks) is unverified.
