What is Crystalix?

2 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Crystalix is a building and decoration mod that adds colored glass blocks with a lot of different functions. The pack includes version 3.0.0. It's a great pick if you like detailed builds, or if you want glass that does more than look pretty.[1][2]

Since version 2.3.0 there are only 3 kinds of glass, and you can apply any color to any of them. That gives you a huge number of color combinations without a crowded creative menu.[1]

The Crystalix Wand

The wand is how you customize your glass. You hold V by default to open a config window, then cycle through the properties to set them on a block. Left clicking or scrolling down cycles forwards, and right clicking or scrolling up cycles backwards.[1]

  • Crouch to edit all connecting blocks at once.[1]
  • Hold CTRL to apply properties without changing the color.[1]
  • Press X to copy the properties from the block you're currently targeting onto the wand.[1]

What the properties can do

Properties can be mixed however you like. You can make a block invisible, fully transparent with only a few colored specks, waterloggable, or shadeless. You can also make it emit a redstone signal of 15, or let it conduct redstone like a solid block.[1]

Reinforced blocks are indestructible to everything, including the wither and the ender dragon, except for a player mining them. Mining them is also 10x harder. The Ghost property lets chosen groups pass through the block, such as only players or only hostile mobs. The Light property can make a block glow at light level 15, block light like tinted glass, or glow at 15 while still allowing mob spawns.[1]

Unverified Where Crystalix fits in this pack's progression is unconfirmed. The available sources show no quests for it and no place on the ATM Star path, so treat it as an optional building and decoration mod.

How do you get started with Crystalix?

4 parts

Crystalix is all about coloured glass-style building blocks. In this pack the recipes form a chain: you craft a plain base block first, then upgrade it step by step into named variants. The black set is the clearest example, so that's what we'll follow here.[1][3]

The base block

Everything starts with the plain coloured block. For black, that's crystalix:black_block. It's the ingredient the first round of upgrades builds on, so make a few before anything else.[3]

Pick your upgrade

From the base block, each upgrade is its own recipe that turns it into a named variant. These are the ones you'll reach for first:[3]

  • crystalix:black_dark_block is the Dark variant.[3]
  • crystalix:black_ghost_block is the Ghost variant.[3]
  • crystalix:black_light_block is the Light variant.[3]
  • crystalix:black_shaded_block is the Shaded variant.[3]
  • crystalix:black_reinforced_block is the Reinforced variant.[3]

The Reinforced variant also starts from the base block.

Stack the upgrades

You don't have to stop at one upgrade. Variants can be combined, which gives names like crystalix:black_reinforced_ghost_block and crystalix:black_shaded_reinforced_dark_ghost_block. Each combination can be reached from more than one starting point. The Reinforced Ghost block, for example, has one recipe that starts from the Ghost block and another that starts from the Reinforced block, so you can add the upgrades in whichever order suits what you already have.[3][4]

Tip: Make the base block in bulk first. Every upgrade chain starts from it, so a stack of plain blocks lets you try different variants without going back to the start.[3]

Other colours

Black isn't the only colour. The mod's language file lists the same family of variant names for other colours such as blue, brown, cyan, gray and green.[4]

How does Crystalix work?

4 parts

Crystalix doesn't work like a tech mod. The project page describes it as adding colored glass blocks with many different functions, and the sources here don't describe machines, multiblocks, power, fluids or item automation. So this section covers how the glass blocks and their properties work, as the project page explains them, and how you craft them in the pack.[1]

Properties are the core system

Each block gets its behavior from properties, and you can mix and match them however you want. You can also apply any color to any type of glass.[1]

  • Invisibility: the project page says this makes the block invisible, which is useful when you want the glass's properties without a visible block.[1]
  • Transparent: the project page says the texture becomes fully transparent and the color is only applied to a few specs on the glass.[1]
  • Waterloggable: sets whether the block can be waterlogged.[1]
  • Reinforced: the project page says the block is indestructible to everything, including the wither and the ender dragon, except for a player mining it, and that it is 10x harder to mine.[1]
  • Shadeless: the project page says this removes the shadows and shade from the block.[1]
  • Redstone: the project page says the block emits a redstone signal of 15.[1]
  • Conductor: the project page says the block conducts redstone through it like a solid block.[1]
  • Color: opens a color picker so you can choose any color for your glass.[1]

Ghost and Light modes

The project page lists several modes for both Ghost and Light. Ghost makes the block passthrough for one of these options: nothing, everything, only players, everything except players, only hostile mobs, everything except hostile mobs, only passive mobs, or everything except passive mobs.[1]

According to the project page, Light cycles through None, Light, Dark and Fake Light. None is no special property. Light glows at a light level of 15. Dark blocks light the same way tinted glass does. Fake Light glows with a light level of 15 and still allows mobs to spawn.[1]

Tip: If you want a glowing floor or wall that doesn't turn your base into a mob-free zone, look at the Fake Light mode, because the project page says it still allows mobs to spawn. Pick Light instead if you want a normal light-emitting block.[1]

The Crystalix Wand

The project page describes the Wand as the tool for changing a block's properties: it lets you cycle through all possible properties, and a config window lets you set the property of a block.[1]

  • By default, holding V opens the config window, per the project page.[1]
  • Per the project page, left clicking or scrolling down cycles forwards, and right clicking or scrolling up cycles backwards.[1]
  • Per the project page, crouching lets you edit all connecting blocks at once.[1]
  • Per the project page, holding CTRL makes the wand apply only properties and not color.[1]
  • Per the project page, pressing X copies the properties from the block you're currently targeting onto the wand.[1]

Crafting property variants in the pack

In this pack the property variants also exist as separate craftable blocks. The language file lists reinforced and shaded reinforced versions in colors such as black, blue, brown and cyan, and the recipe dump shows how the black set is built.[3][4]

Everything starts with the plain crystalix:black_block.[3]

Watch out: The project page describes a change in version 2.3.0 to 3 types of glass, with properties set on the block. The pack's language file and recipes list many separate per-property blocks. For what you can actually craft, trust the in-pack recipes.[1][3][4]

How do you progress through Crystalix?

4 parts

Crystalix has no power tiers like a tech mod. Its progression is a ladder of decorative colored blocks, and every rung is a shaped crafting recipe. The recipes shown for this pack are all listed as mod recipes, and the sources do not show any pack changes to them.[3]

The base block

Everything starts with a plain colored block, such as crystalix:black_block or crystalix:blue_block. Each color has its own base recipe, and in the recipes shown the later variants of that color build on this block.[3]

First-tier variants

From the base block you craft a single-modifier variant. The black set shows the modifiers Dark, Light, Ghost, Reinforced and Shaded. Blue shows Dark, Light and Ghost versions in the recipes available here.[3]

  • crystalix:black_dark_block is the Dark variant.[3]
  • crystalix:black_light_block is the Light variant.[3]
  • crystalix:black_ghost_block is the Ghost variant.[3]
  • crystalix:black_reinforced_block is the Reinforced variant.[3]
  • crystalix:black_shaded_block is the Shaded variant.[3]

Stacking modifiers

Variants can be combined. You craft a combined block from a block that already has some of its modifiers, plus an item that adds the missing one. The names read in order, so crystalix:black_shaded_reinforced_dark_ghost_block carries every modifier on top of black.[3]

Combined blocks usually have multiple routes. For example, crystalix:black_dark_ghost_block can be made from the Dark block or from the Ghost block, so you can take whichever route fits what you already have in your inventory.[3]

The top of the ladder

The longest chains in the black set end at crystalix:black_shaded_reinforced_dark_ghost_block and crystalix:black_shaded_reinforced_light_ghost_block. Each can be reached from several different blocks just below it.[3]

Tip: Pick a color and plan the whole chain before you craft. In the recipes shown, every variant of a color builds on that color's base block, so you only need to make the base block once per color.[3]

Unverified The sources here do not show any quests in this pack that involve Crystalix, so there is no quest-guided progression to follow. The recipe list was also cut off, so the full set of colors and which modifiers each color has are not confirmed.

What changed in Crystalix between versions?

There isn't much history to tell yet. The All the Mods 10 2.32 changelog lists Crystalix as a new addition, at version 1.0.1.[5]

The 2.32 mod list shows the jar as crystalix-1.0.1_neoforge_1.21.1.jar, which is a NeoForge build for Minecraft 1.21.1. The list only says it was first included in 2.32 or earlier, so the changelog entry is the clearest sign of when it arrived.[6]

Unverified No changelog for the shipped Crystalix 1.0.1 jar is available, so what changed inside the mod itself, and any pack-specific tweaks to it, is unverified.
