What is Ars Additions?

2 parts

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

Ars Additions is an addon for Ars Nouveau that focuses on small tweaks and quality-of-life additions. This pack includes version 1.21.1-21.3.0. It doesn't overhaul Ars Nouveau. It adds handy extras around the edges, so it's aimed at players who are already into Ars magic and want less hassle.[1][2]

What it adds

  • Structures: Ruined Warp Portals, a Warp Portal variant of the Ruined Portals that includes an Explorer's Warp Scroll, and the Nexus Tower, a wizard tower for easier teleportation around your world.[1]
  • Glyphs: Retaliate (a Form that targets the entity that last hit you within the last 5 seconds), Mark (an Effect that stores a reference to a block or entity in a Reliquary), and Recall (a Form that casts a spell on a target stored in a Reliquary).[1]
  • Warp Index and Stabilized Warp Index: remote access to your Storage Lecterns. The upgraded versions allow cross-dimensional access.[1]
  • Ender Source Jar: an Ender Chest for Source. Leave one at your base to fill up, and carry another to reach that Source anywhere.[1]
  • Wixie Enchanting Apparatus: use a Wixie Charm on an Enchanting Apparatus to convert it, so you can automate Enchanting Apparatus recipes, including applying enchantments.[1]
  • Decoration: Ars-themed lanterns, Magelight lanterns and matching chains, Sourcestone walls, Cracked Sourcestone, and a painting called Snoozebuncle.[1]

Worth knowing

The mod also has Lost and Ancient Codex Entries, which teach a random glyph of their tier. By default, tier 1 drops in basic dungeon loot and higher tiers are unobtainable. The Ritual of Arcane Permanent can chunkload your surrounding area. It is fully configurable and disabled by default. Those are the mod's defaults, so check them in your own world before you rely on them.[1]

Unverified The sources don't confirm whether this pack changes any of the mod's recipes, configs or defaults. They also don't place the mod in any quest or on the ATM Star path, so where it fits in the pack's progression is unverified.

How do you get started with Ars Additions?

5 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 2.12 guide

Ars Additions is an Ars Nouveau addon focused on small tweaks and quality of life additions. Your first steps here are a few simple crafts. Several of the recipes below were changed by the pack, so follow the recipe blocks rather than anything you remember from the mod's defaults.[1][3]

Step one: make a Magelight Lantern

Start with Magelight Lantern. It's a hollowed lantern with a Magelight inside. The pack's quest book has a quest for it in the building_tips chapter (a quest in "?"), which comes after a quest in "?". The quest accepts the Light glyph or any of the magelight lantern variants.[1][4]

Magelight lanterns also come in Golden, Archwood, Sourcestone, Polished Sourcestone and Soul versions. The pack changed the recipes for the Golden, Archwood, Sourcestone and Soul ones. The Polished Sourcestone version is made from the Sourcestone one with a mod recipe.[1][3]

Step two: craft the Handy Haversack

The Handy Haversack is a storage item: you click items into it, or click it onto items. The pack has its own recipe for it.[3][5]

Step three: get a Wayfinder

The Wayfinder also has a pack-changed recipe. It is an ingredient in the Locate Structure ritual, which locates a nearby structure based on the augments.[3][5]

Step four: pick your first charms

Charms are made with the Enchanting Apparatus. Good early picks are the Charm of Darkvision, which enables Night Vision in low-light environments, and the Charm of Featherlight, which grants feather fall once you fall further than 3 blocks.[3][5]

Later upgrades

When you're further along, the Stabilized Warp Index is the upgraded Warp Index. The Warp Index gives remote access to your Storage Lecterns, and the upgraded versions allow cross-dimensional access. The pack changed the Stabilized recipe.[1][3]

How does Ars Additions work?

8 parts

Ars Additions is an Ars Nouveau addon built around small tweaks and quality-of-life features. The sources don't describe any machines, multiblocks, power buffers or fluid handling for it. What it does add are a handful of systems you use with source, spells and storage, and those are covered below.[1]

Warp Index and Ender Source Jar

The Warp Index gives you remote access to your Storage Lecterns, and the Stabilized version also works across dimensions. Its tooltip shows the coordinates and dimension it is bound to, and you open it by pressing its keybind.[1][6]

The Ender Source Jar works like an Ender Chest for source. Put one in your base and let it fill up, then carry a second one with you to reach that source from anywhere.[1]

Mark, Recall and the Reliquary

The Unstable Reliquary stores references to blocks, entities or players. You bind it by holding it in your offhand and casting a spell with the Mark glyph. If the tether breaks, the Reliquary's tooltip tells you.[1][6]

Mark is an effect glyph that stores the target in the Reliquary. Recall is a form glyph that reads the stored target back and casts the spell on it.[1][6]

Retaliate is a third glyph, also a form. It applies your spell to the last entity that damaged you, as long as that damage happened within the last 5 seconds.[1][6]

Ritual of Arcane Permanence

This ritual force-loads the chunks around it, but only while it gets a constant stream of source. Once the source stops, so does the chunk loading.[6]

In the mod's defaults the ritual is fully configurable and disabled.[1]

Unverified Whether the Ritual of Arcane Permanence is enabled in this pack, and what its config values are, could not be confirmed. No config files for this mod were available.

Wixie Enchanting Apparatus

Use a Wixie Charm on an Enchanting Apparatus to convert it into a Wixie Enchanting Apparatus. The converted apparatus can automate Enchanting Apparatus recipes, including applying enchantments.[1]

Handy Haversack

The Handy Haversack is filled by clicking items into it, or by clicking the Haversack onto items.[6]

Exploration and structures

Ruined Warp Portals are a warp-portal variant of Ruined Portals and include an Explorer's Warp Scroll. You can throw the scroll into the frame of a ruined warp portal, or press its keybind to teleport. Either way it tries to locate a nearby structure, and it tells you if it fails.[1][6]

The Nexus Tower is a wizard tower that makes teleporting around your world easier. A ritual also exists that locates a nearby structure, with the result depending on the augments you use.[1][6]

Codex Entries teach you a random glyph of their tier. By default, Tier 1 entries show up in basic dungeon loot and higher tiers can't be obtained.[1][6]

Charms

The mod adds a set of charms that give passive protections. Their tooltips show a charging progress value.[6]

  • Fall Prevention Charm: activates when you fall further than 3 blocks and gives you feather fall.[6]
  • Undying Charm: gives you a second wind when you take fatal damage.[6]
  • Void Protection Charm: teleports you back to the last safe space you were on.[6]
  • Dispel Protection Charm: lets you keep your buffs when you're dispelled.[6]
  • Water Breathing, Fire Resistance, Night Vision and Powdered Snow Walk Charms: let you breathe underwater, ignore fire damage and walk through fire and swim in lava, see in low light, and walk on powdered snow.[6]
  • Ender Mask, Wither Protection and Sonic Boom Protection Charms: protect you from Enderman anger, the Wither effect and the Warden's sonic boom.[6]
  • Golden Charm: makes Piglins neutral toward you.[6]

Lanterns and chains

The Golden, Archwood, Sourcestone and Polished Sourcestone chains and lanterns are decoration. The Magelight lanterns also come in Regular and Soul versions. The pack changes the crafting recipes for the chains and for most of the lanterns, including the Magelight Lantern shown below. The recipes that convert between the plain and polished Sourcestone versions are the mod's own.[1][7]

How do you progress through Ars Additions?

5 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Ars Additions isn't on the ATM Star quest path, and the pack only has two quests that touch it. The mod has no formal tier system in the sources I have, so this page follows what the pack gives you: the quests, plus which recipes the pack changed. It works as a rough ladder from early lighting to endgame Enchanting Apparatus crafts.[8][9][10]

Early: Magelight lanterns and Sourcestone building

Your first contact is the Building Tips quest a quest in "?". It introduces Magelights, which are light sources of pure magic. You can place them with spells, or craft a Magelight Lantern and place that instead. The quest accepts the Light glyph or any of the lantern variants: Magelight Lantern, Golden Magelight Lantern, Sourcestone Magelight Lantern, Polished Sourcestone Magelight Lantern, Archwood Magelight Lantern and Soul Magelight Lantern.[9]

The pack changed the base Magelight Lantern recipe, so don't rely on the mod's defaults. Here is the in-pack version:[10]

The pack also changed the recipes for the Golden, Archwood, Soul and Sourcestone Magelight Lanterns. The plain lanterns and the chains (Golden, Archwood and Sourcestone) got the same treatment.[10]

If you want the polished look, the pack adds a Create sandpaper polishing recipe that turns a Sourcestone Magelight Lantern into the polished version. Here it is:[10]

The rest of the Sourcestone set, such as doors, trapdoors, buttons and walls, uses the mod's own recipes. The cracked variants come from the stonecutter. They are pure building blocks, so you can pick them up whenever you like.[10]

Mid game: utility items the pack adjusted

Three utility items have pack-modified recipes. The Handy Haversack and the Wayfinder are both crafted at a regular crafting table.[10]

The Advanced Dominion Wand is an Enchanting Apparatus upgrade of the standard Dominion Wand, and the pack changed its recipe as well. The Jar of Miner's Wisdom is also made at the Enchanting Apparatus with a pack-modified recipe.[10]

Spawners, the one other quest

The Apothic Spawners chapter has the a quest in "?" quest for the Source Spawner. It uses Source as fuel. To pick which mob it spawns, you need a Containment Jar holding that mob in the area. The Source Spawner is crafted at the Enchanting Apparatus with the mod's own recipe, unchanged by the pack.[8][10]

Late game: Warp Index and Stabilized Warp Index

The Warp Index is an Enchanting Apparatus craft that uses the mod's recipe. Its upgrade, the Stabilized Warp Index, is crafted from the Warp Index and is the one the pack changed. It's the most demanding Ars Additions item in the recipes I can see.[10]

Charms and rituals

The charms, such as Charm of Second Wind, Charm of Darkvision and Charm of Ocean's Breath, are all Enchanting Apparatus recipes that use the mod's defaults. The Locate Structure ritual is a crafting recipe built on the Wayfinder, also unchanged from the mod.[10]

Crafting Shapeless

Unverified No quest in the sources covers the charms, the Warp Index line or the rituals, so the pack doesn't guide you toward them. Any ordering of those items beyond the recipes above is unverified.

How does Ars Additions work with other mods?

5 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Ars Additions is an addon for Ars Nouveau, so in this pack nearly every connection to another mod runs through Ars Nouveau. The recipes below are the ones that mix items from both mods. Vanilla Minecraft items and shared item tags also show up in a few of them.[1][10]

Enchanting Apparatus crafts

Many of the mod's functional items are made at Ars Nouveau's Enchanting Apparatus, and each one uses Ars Nouveau items as ingredients. That includes the Ender Source Jar, the Source Spawner, the Warp Index, the Unstable Reliquary, the Reach and the Charm of Void's Salvation.[10]

The quest a quest in "?" in the Apothic Spawners chapter covers the Source Spawner. It uses Source as fuel, and you need a Containment Jar holding the mob in the area so the spawner knows what to spawn.[8]

Recipes the pack changed

Two Enchanting Apparatus recipes are marked as changed by the pack, so they differ from the mod's own versions: the Advanced Dominion Wand and the Jar of Miner's Wisdom.[10]

Magelight lanterns

The Magelight lanterns are hollowed lanterns that contain Ars Nouveau's Magelights, and their in-pack recipes use Ars Nouveau items. They come in several casings: Magelight Lantern, Golden Magelight Lantern, Sourcestone Magelight Lantern, Archwood Magelight Lantern and Soul Magelight Lantern.[1][10]

The quest a quest in "?" in the Building Tips chapter ties this together. You can place Magelights with spells, or craft a Magelight Lantern and place that instead. Any one of the Magelight lanterns completes the task.[9]

Glyphs

The Glyph Mark and Glyph Recall are crafted with Ars Nouveau's glyph recipe type. Mark is an Effect that stores a reference to a target block or entity inside a Reliquary, and Recall is a Form that uses a reference from a Reliquary to cast a spell on that target. The Unstable Reliquary is the item you use with them.[1][10]

Sourcestone building blocks

Ars Additions builds its decorative blocks on Ars Nouveau's Sourcestone and Smooth Sourcestone. Doors, trapdoors, walls and buttons are crafted from them, and stonecutting converts between the stones and these blocks. The cracked variants are stonecut from Sourcestone, and you can craft any cracked block back into plain Sourcestone.[10]

The Magebloom Carpet follows the same pattern, as it is crafted from Ars Nouveau's Magebloom Block.[10]

Which Ars Additions config options matter?

2 parts

Ars Additions doesn't have a long list of settings to tweak, and the pack's config files for this mod aren't available to me. So I can't tell you the exact values this pack uses, and I won't guess at them.[1]

Ritual of Arcane Permanent (chunkloading)

The one setting the mod's project page calls out is the Ritual of Arcane Permanent. It chunkloads the area around it, and the page says it is fully configurable and disabled by default. That describes the mod's own default, not necessarily this pack's setup.[1]

Unverified Whether this pack enables the Ritual of Arcane Permanent, and what chunkloading limits or other values it sets, could not be confirmed. Check the in-game behavior or the pack's config folder before building around it.

Higher-tier Codex Entries

The project page says Tier 1 Codex Entries show up in basic dungeon loot, while higher tiers are unobtainable by default. That is the mod's default behavior. It isn't confirmed whether this pack changes how higher tiers are obtained.[1]
