What is Ars Additions?
2 parts
Ars Additions is an addon for Ars Nouveau that focuses on small tweaks and quality-of-life additions. This pack includes version 1.21.1-21.3.0. It doesn't overhaul Ars Nouveau. It adds handy extras around the edges, so it's aimed at players who are already into Ars magic and want less hassle.[1][2]
What it adds
- Structures: Ruined Warp Portals, a Warp Portal variant of the Ruined Portals that includes an Explorer's Warp Scroll, and the Nexus Tower, a wizard tower for easier teleportation around your world.[1]
- Glyphs: Retaliate (a Form that targets the entity that last hit you within the last 5 seconds), Mark (an Effect that stores a reference to a block or entity in a Reliquary), and Recall (a Form that casts a spell on a target stored in a Reliquary).[1]
- Warp Index and Stabilized Warp Index: remote access to your Storage Lecterns. The upgraded versions allow cross-dimensional access.[1]
- Ender Source Jar: an Ender Chest for Source. Leave one at your base to fill up, and carry another to reach that Source anywhere.[1]
- Wixie Enchanting Apparatus: use a Wixie Charm on an Enchanting Apparatus to convert it, so you can automate Enchanting Apparatus recipes, including applying enchantments.[1]
- Decoration: Ars-themed lanterns, Magelight lanterns and matching chains, Sourcestone walls, Cracked Sourcestone, and a painting called Snoozebuncle.[1]
Worth knowing
The mod also has Lost and Ancient Codex Entries, which teach a random glyph of their tier. By default, tier 1 drops in basic dungeon loot and higher tiers are unobtainable. The Ritual of Arcane Permanent can chunkload your surrounding area. It is fully configurable and disabled by default. Those are the mod's defaults, so check them in your own world before you rely on them.[1]
Unverified The sources don't confirm whether this pack changes any of the mod's recipes, configs or defaults. They also don't place the mod in any quest or on the ATM Star path, so where it fits in the pack's progression is unverified.
How do you get started with Ars Additions?
5 parts
Ars Additions is an Ars Nouveau addon built around small tweaks and quality-of-life items, so you can pick it up piece by piece. Here is a sensible order to craft things in.[1]
Handy Haversack
Start with the Handy Haversack. Its tooltip says you click items into it, or click it onto items, which makes it a simple way to stash things. The pack changed this recipe from the mod default.[3][4]

Wayfinder
Next, make the Wayfinder. The pack changed this recipe too. It is also an ingredient in the recipe for the Locate Structure ritual, which locates a nearby structure based on the augments.[3][4]

Lighting your base
The mod adds standard lanterns with Ars-themed casings, plus Magelight lanterns that are hollowed out and hold Magelights inside. The pack changed the recipes for both of these below. A good first pair is the Sourcestone Lantern and the Magelight Lantern.[1][3]

Safety charms
Charms are crafted at the Enchanting Apparatus. The Charm of Featherlight grants feather fall when you fall further than 3 blocks. The Charm of Void's Salvation teleports you back to the last safe space you were on. Both of these keep the mod's own recipes in this pack.[3][4]

Storage and travel, later on
The Warp Index gives remote access to your Storage Lecterns, and the upgraded version works across dimensions. The pack changed the recipe for the Stabilized Warp Index, which takes a [[item:ars_additions:warp_index}} as an ingredient, so check it before you plan around it.[1][3]

How does Ars Additions work?
7 parts
Ars Additions is an Ars Nouveau addon built around small tweaks and quality of life features, so most of its systems are items, glyphs and one ritual rather than big multiblocks. Here is how the ones that matter behave in this pack.[1]
Mark, Recall and Retaliate glyphs
Mark is an effect glyph that marks its target and stores that mark in a Reliquary. Recall is a form glyph that takes the target stored in a Reliquary and casts the spell on it. The item that holds those references is the Unstable Reliquary, and it can store blocks, entities or players.[1][4]
Enchanting Apparatus (ars_nouveau)
Recipe id: ars_additions:apparatus/unstable_reliquary
The Unstable Reliquary is made at the Enchanting Apparatus.
Using Recall costs durability, and the amount depends on the target. In this pack the values are the mod defaults: 50 for a location (mark_and_recall.cost_location), 250 for an entity (mark_and_recall.cost_entity) and 1000 for a player (mark_and_recall.cost_player). If you cast Mark on a player, the Marked effect lasts 300 seconds (mark_and_recall.effect_duration).[5]
- Mark has a glyph cost of 25 (general.cost).[6]
- Mark can appear only 1 time in a single spell (general.per_spell_limit).[6]
- Recall has a glyph cost of 50 (general.cost).[7]
- Retaliate has a glyph cost of 25 (general.cost). It is a form that applies your spell to the last entity that damaged you, and the damage must have happened within the last 5 seconds.[4][8]
- All three are tier 3 glyphs (general.glyph_tier) and none of them is a starter glyph in this pack.[6][7][8]
This is the recipe for the Mark glyph.
Ender Source Jar
The Ender Source Jar works like an Ender Chest for Source. You leave one in your base to fill it with Source, and carry another to reach that Source anywhere. The pack changed its recipe from the mod's version.[1][3]

Recipe id: ars_additions:apparatus/ender_source_jar
Arcane Permanence chunkloading ritual
The Ritual of Arcane Permanence force-loads the chunks around it as long as it gets a constant stream of Source. The mod makes it fully configurable and disabled by default.[1][4]
If the ritual is available to you, these are the server settings in this pack.[5]
- Cost: 10,000 Source per payment (chunkloading.cost), whenever the cost is enabled (chunkloading.has_cost).[5]
- Timing: the cost is charged every 24,000 ticks, which is one in-game day (chunkloading.interval), and it repeats continuously (chunkloading.repeat_cost).[5]
- Starting radius is 0 (chunkloading.initial_radius), which means a 1x1 area of chunks.[5]
- Raising the radius with an item is switched off in this pack (chunkloading.radius_incremental is false).[5]
- If it were switched on, the configured item is a Source Gem Block (chunkloading.radius_increment_item).[5]
- The maximum number of augmented increases the ritual accepts is 1 (chunkloading.radius_increment_max).[5]
- The player who started the ritual must be online for it to run (chunkloading.require_online).[5]
- The number of rituals players can run is effectively unlimited, at 2,147,483,647 (chunkloading.max_rituals).[5]
Automating the Enchanting Apparatus
Use a Wixie Charm on an Enchanting Apparatus and it becomes a Wixie Enchanting Apparatus. That version can automate Enchanting Apparatus recipes, including applying enchantments. The game also gives chat messages when its storage is bound or removed. The sources here don't explain more of the setup, so check it in-game.[1][4]
Warp Index and Nexus
The Warp Index gives you remote access to your Storage Lecterns, and the Stabilized version adds cross-dimensional access. The Warp Nexus works with Warp Scrolls: if you have none stored, the game tells you that you don't have any warp destinations available.[1][4]
Two structures support this travel. Ruined Warp Portals include an Explorer's Warp Scroll, and Nexus Towers make teleporting around your world easier. Both generate in this pack, as do Arcane Libraries.[1][9][10]
- Arcane Library: spacing 50 (arcane_library.spacing), separation 25 (arcane_library.separation).[11]
- Nexus Tower: spacing 80 (nexus_tower.spacing), separation 20 (nexus_tower.separation).[11]
- Ruined portal: spacing 40 (ruined_portal.spacing), separation 15 (ruined_portal.separation).[11]
The Locate Structure ritual searches for a nearby structure based on the augments you give it. Lookups run on an async thread pool, which is set to 1 thread here (locator.threads). The config says to raise that only if simultaneous lookups cause problems.[4][5]
Advanced Dominion Wand
The Advanced Dominion Wand can link several targets in one go. Its chat messages report how many of the targets it connected, and tell you if none of the blocks it found can be wanded. The pack changed this recipe from the mod's version.[3][4]

Feeding Source into items
Charms charge over time, and the game tells you to add Source nearby to increase the charge speed. Imbued Spell Parchment works the same way when scribing: more Source nearby means faster scribing.[4]
How do you progress through Ars Additions?
3 parts
The sources here show no quest ladder for Ars Additions, so the order below is a suggested path based on the recipes. It runs from cheap crafting-table builds, to Enchanting Apparatus gear, to the Warp Index line and the other bigger upgrades.[3]
Unverified The quest sources here do not show any quest involving Ars Additions, so the pack's quest book gives no confirmed starting point for this mod.
Stage 1: Sourcestone and lighting
Start with the building blocks. Sourcestone can be cut in a stonecutter into Cracked Sourcestone, Cracked Polished Sourcestone and the large and small brick versions of both. At a crafting table you can make Sourcestone Wall, Sourcestone Door, Sourcestone Trapdoor and Sourcestone Button.[3]
The pack also adds a Create sandpaper polishing recipe that turns Cracked Sourcestone into Cracked Polished Sourcestone.[3]

The pack has changed the chain and lantern recipes, so don't rely on the mod's defaults. That covers Sourcestone Chain, Archwood Chain and Golden Chain. It also covers lanterns such as Sourcestone Lantern, Archwood Lantern, Golden Lantern, Magelight Lantern and Soul Magelight Lantern.[3]

How does Ars Additions work with other mods?
5 parts
Ars Additions is an Ars Nouveau addon, so almost all of its connections run through Ars Nouveau. The pack also ties a few Ars Additions items into other mods, mostly through changed recipes. This pack has no quests that involve the mod, so everything below comes from in-pack recipes.[1][3]
Ars Nouveau: the main link
The Enchanting Apparatus items, such as the Warp Index, Source Spawner, Unstable Reliquary, Charm of Void's Salvation and Reach, are built from Ars Nouveau essences, charms, scrolls and jars.[3]
Enchanting Apparatus (ars_nouveau)
Recipe id: ars_additions:apparatus/unstable_reliquary
The Mark and Recall glyphs (Glyph Mark and Glyph Recall) are made through Ars Nouveau's glyph recipe type, shown below. The decorative blocks follow the same pattern: sourcestone doors, trapdoors, walls and buttons, plus the cracked and polished variants, all connect to Sourcestone or Smooth Sourcestone, and stonecutter recipes move you between them. The Magebloom Carpet also links back to Ars Nouveau through Magebloom Block.[3]
Recipes the pack changed
The pack has changed several Ars Additions recipes. The sources don't show what they looked like before, so treat the recipes on this page as the real ones for this pack. The changed ones are the Advanced Dominion Wand, the Ender Source Jar, the Jar of Miner's Wisdom, the archwood and sourcestone chains, and the lantern and magelight lantern recipes.[3]

Which Ars Additions config options matter?
5 parts
Most of what you will want to know in this pack's Ars Additions setup is the chunkloading ritual, the Mark and Recall costs, the glyph settings and the structures. Wherever the config files list a mod default, the pack's value matches it. The one headline difference in behavior is that the ritual's default recipe is switched off.[5][6][7][8][9]
Chunkloading ritual
chunkloading.ritual_enabled is set to false, which turns off the default recipe for the Ritual of Arcane Permanent. The mod's project page describes this ritual as disabled by default, so the pack keeps that behavior rather than changing it.[1][9]
If the ritual does get enabled, these are the pack's server settings for it:[5]
- chunkloading.has_cost is true and chunkloading.cost is 10,000 source, the same as the mod default.[5]
- chunkloading.repeat_cost is true, so the cost is continuous. chunkloading.interval is 24,000 ticks, which is one in-game day.[5]
- chunkloading.require_online is true, so the player who started the ritual must be online.[5]
- chunkloading.initial_radius is 0, which means a 1x1 chunk area.[5]
- chunkloading.max_rituals is 2,147,483,647, the mod default, so there is effectively no cap on how many rituals players can run.[5]
- chunkloading.radius_incremental is false, so the radius can't be grown with an item.[5]
- chunkloading.radius_increment_item is set to Source Gem Block and chunkloading.radius_increment_max is 1, but those only matter if incremental radius is turned on.[5]
Mark and Recall
Recall costs durability depending on what it targets. In this pack, mark_and_recall.cost_location is 50, mark_and_recall.cost_entity is 250 and mark_and_recall.cost_player is 1,000. All of these match the mod defaults.[5]
When Mark is cast on a player, the Marked effect lasts for the time set in mark_and_recall.effect_duration, which is 300 seconds here (also the mod default).[5]
Glyph settings
The Mark, Recall and Retaliate glyphs are all enabled, and none of them is a starter glyph. Each has its glyph tier set to 3, as in the mod defaults, and the costs and spell limits below also match the defaults.[6][7][8]
- Mark: general.cost is 25, and general.per_spell_limit is 1, so it can appear only once in a spell.[6]
- Recall: general.cost is 50, and general.per_spell_limit is 2,147,483,647, the mod default.[7]
- Retaliate: general.cost is 25, and general.per_spell_limit is 2,147,483,647, also the mod default.[8]
- The augment cost overrides and augment limits are empty lists in the Mark, Recall and Retaliate glyph configs, so no extra augment rules are set there.[6][7][8]
Structures
Arcane libraries, nexus towers and ruined warp portals are all switched on through structures.arcane_library_enabled, structures.nexus_tower_enabled and structures.ruined_warp_portals_enabled. The separate structure toggle file also has the arcane library, nexus tower, ruined portal and large ruined portal all set to true.[9][10]
For placement, the pack uses a spacing of 50 and separation of 25 for the arcane library, 80 and 20 for the nexus tower, and 40 and 15 for the ruined portal.[11]
Locator threads
locator.threads is 1, the mod default. The config notes say to raise it only if simultaneous location lookups cause issues and your hardware can handle extra threads.[5]
