What is Connected Glass?

3 parts

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

Connected Glass is a building-focused mod. It adds new glass blocks whose textures connect to neighboring blocks, so large windows look like one seamless pane instead of a grid of separate squares.[1]

This pack includes Connected Glass 1.1.14, built for NeoForge on Minecraft 1.21.[2]

What it adds

The mod adds 4 new glass types. Each one comes in all 16 colors, and every block also has a matching pane.[1]

  • Connecting Glass: the regular glass textures, but touching blocks connect.[1]
  • Clear Glass: clear versions of the regular glass textures.[1]
  • Scratched Glass: the old programmer-art glass textures.[1]
  • Tinted Glass: connecting, colored versions of the tinted glass textures. Tinted glass prevents light from passing through.[1]

Vanilla glass is not changed or replaced. The connecting types are extra blocks, so you can still use the regular vanilla textures whenever you want them.[1]

Who it is for

It is for builders who want cleaner windows, greenhouses and skylights. It is purely cosmetic, apart from the light-blocking behavior of tinted glass, so you don't need it to progress. You can use it as much or as little as you like.[1]

Where it fits in progression

The sources I have show Connected Glass only as an included mod. They don't show any quests that use it, or any role in the pack's progression.[2]

Unverified Crafting recipes for the Connected Glass blocks in this pack could not be confirmed from the available sources, so none are listed here.

How do you get started with Connected Glass?

3 parts

Connected Glass adds new glass blocks whose textures connect to neighbouring blocks, so a big window looks like one seamless surface. It does not change vanilla glass. The new blocks are extra items, and your normal glass stays as it is.[1]

The mod's project page describes four glass types: Connecting, Clear, Scratched and Tinted. Each comes in all 16 colors, and every block also has panes. The plain one is Connecting Glass, and it is the base for the dyed versions below.[1]

Step 1: Start with plain Connecting Glass

Get some Connecting Glass first. The dyed blocks in the recipe data are all made from it, and so are some of the panes.[3]

Step 2: Make panes

Next, make Connecting Glass Pane. There are two recipes for it. The first one lets you reuse vanilla glass panes you already have.[3]

Converts a vanilla glass pane into a Connecting Glass Pane.

You can also make the pane from the full Connecting Glass block.[3]

Step 3: Add color

Once you have the plain glass, you can make colored versions by combining it with a dye of the matching color. Black is the example here, and the other colors in the recipe data follow the same pattern.[3]

Example: Connecting Black Stained Glass, made from plain Connecting Glass and a black dye.

Colored panes have three routes: convert the matching vanilla stained glass pane, dye a plain Connecting Glass Pane, or craft the pane from the colored block. The black set shows all three.[3]

Tip: Vanilla stained glass panes convert directly into the connecting versions, so you can reuse glass you already have instead of starting from scratch.[3]

How does Connected Glass work?

3 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10: To the Sky 2.0.4 guide

Good news: there's nothing to wire up here. Connected Glass has no machines, multiblocks, power, fluids or automation. As far as the sources describe it, the mod only adds decorative glass blocks and panes whose textures connect to neighbouring blocks.[1]

What the mod adds

Connected Glass adds 4 new types of glass block with connecting textures. Each type comes in all 16 colors, and every block also has a pane version.[1]

  • Connecting Glass: the regular glass textures, but touching blocks connect. Connecting Glass is the base block of this type.[1]
  • Clear Glass: clear versions of the regular glass textures.[1]
  • Scratched Glass: the old programmer-art glass textures.[1]
  • Tinted Glass: connecting, colored versions of the tinted glass textures. Tinted glass prevents light from passing through.[1]
Tip: The mod does not change vanilla glass. It only adds extra blocks, so your vanilla glass keeps its normal look. If you want vanilla glass to connect, the mod page points to Fusion with one of the resource packs listed on Fusion's mod page.[1]

Crafting and dyeing

In this pack, the colored Connecting Glass blocks and panes have several crafting routes. The black variants are shown below as an example, and the other colors in the recipe list follow the same naming pattern.[4]

To dye a Connecting Glass block, use this recipe. The result is Connecting Black Stained Glass.[4]

There are three routes to a colored pane such as Connecting Black Stained Glass Pane. The first converts a vanilla stained glass pane.[4]

The second dyes a plain Connecting Glass Pane.[4]

The third turns the matching colored glass block into a pane.[4]

6 × Connecting Black Stained Glass

The same set of recipes appears in the dump for blue, brown, cyan and gray, and the dump also lists green and a light blue pane. The listing is truncated, so I can't confirm every color or every glass type from what I have.[4]

Rendering note

The mod page says that if you use a version of Sodium older than 0.6, you also need Indium. Sodium replaces vanilla rendering and ignores the Fabric Rendering API, and Indium patches Sodium to support it.[1]

Unverified Whether this applies to this pack's setup (loader, Sodium version, or whether Indium is needed) isn't confirmed by the available sources.

Unverified The pack's recipes for Clear, Scratched and Tinted Glass, and any configuration options, aren't covered by the available sources. There are no config files for this mod in the pack.

How do you progress through Connected Glass?

3 parts

Connected Glass has no machine tiers or upgrade stages in this pack. It is a decorative set: Connecting Glass, the stained colour variants and the pane versions. The recipes in the pack data are the progression you can follow, so this section walks through them.[3]

Unverified The sources here show no quest chapter covering Connected Glass, so there is no quest-guided route I can confirm. If the pack's quest book mentions the mod, it is not shown in the material this guide was built from.

The crafting path

Colours follow one pattern: plain Connecting Glass, then a stained block, then a pane. Black is the example below. The same recipe pattern shows up for every dye colour in the pack data.[3]

  1. Start with plain Connecting Glass. Dyeing it is how you get the stained blocks.[3]
  2. Make the coloured block. The black version is Connecting Black Stained Glass.[3]
  3. Make the pane. A coloured pane can be made from the vanilla stained glass pane, from a dyed Connecting Glass Pane, or from the matching Connecting stained block. The black pane, Connecting Black Stained Glass Pane, is shown below.[3]

Dyeing Connecting Glass to get the stained block. Other colours follow the same pattern.

How does Connected Glass work with other mods?

2 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10: To the Sky 2.0.4 guide

Connected Glass links up with the rest of the pack in two ways: extra dye colors from Dyenamics and Friends, and the glass walls of the Hostile Neural Networks Data Center.[4][5]

Dyenamics and Friends colors

Connected Glass comes in the 16 standard colors on its own. On top of that, the pack adds crafting recipes that turn its glass into Dyenamics and Friends colors: amber, aquamarine, bubblegum, cherenkov, conifer, fluorescent, honey, icy blue, lavender, maroon, mint, navy, peach, persimmon, rose, spring green, ultramarine and wine. The results use the dyenamicsandfriends namespace rather than the connectedglass one.[1][4]

The recipe dump shows both the Connecting and Clear glass types in all of those colors, as full blocks and as panes. For example, you can make Connecting Amber Stained Glass from Connecting Glass, and Clear Amber Stained Glass Pane from Clear Glass Pane.[4]

Scratched glass has just one Dyenamics and Friends recipe in the dump: Scratched Amber Stained Glass Pane.[4]

Hostile Neural Networks: The Data Center

The quest a quest in "?" sits in the Hostile Neural Networks chapter, right after Creating Loot. It describes the Data Center as a 7x7x7 multiblock that combines the Simulation Chamber and the Loot Fabricator, and it can handle 25 Self Aware Data Models at once. The walls and ceiling must be Black Stained Glass, and the quest's glass task accepts these Connected Glass blocks:[5]

The same task also accepts SecurityCraft's reinforced black stained glass, so you can mix in whichever of these suits your build.[5]

Tip: The quest says the controller may substitute one bottom-wall block, and IO Ports can substitute Black Stained Glass. Keep that in mind when you plan the walls.[5]

What changed in Connected Glass between versions?

All the Mods 10: To the Sky 2.0.0 includes Connected Glass 1.1.14, and the mod has been in the pack since 1.0 or earlier. Here are the notable changes from the mod's own changelog, newest first.[6]

  • 1.1.14 (the version in this pack): the texture atlas size of Connected Glass textures was significantly reduced. Side section textures of pane blocks now only connect up/down when the pane above/below also has that side section. Spanish and Ukrainian translations were updated.[7]
  • 1.1.13: Fusion is now used for culling the top and bottom quads of glass panes.[7]
  • 1.1.12: Turkish and Ukrainian translations were added, and glass was added to the appropriate c: glass tags.[7]
  • 1.1.11: initial release of Connected Glass for Minecraft 1.20.5 and 1.20.6.[7]

If you build with glass panes, the 1.1.14 change is the one you will notice most: pane side sections now only connect vertically when the pane above or below has that same side section.[7]
