What is StevesCarts2?

1 part

Steve's Carts 2 is all about upgrading your carts. The pack's quest text puts it as pretty much everything but the kitchen sink, from drills to guns to arcade machines. If you like building a cart that does real work instead of just carrying you around, this is the mod for you.[1][2]

This pack ships StevesCarts2 1.2.18, built for NeoForge.[1]

Where it fits in the progression

Steve's Carts is part of the ATM Star path, so you'll meet it in the quest book chapter "The ATM Star". The first quest, "Steve's Carts" quest, has you obtain Component Stabilized Metal. That is the base component you'll keep coming back to.[2]

Next comes "Galadorian Drills" quest, which unlocks after the first quest. Its task is the Module Galgadorian Drill, described as the greatest drill you can attach to a cart. The quest warns that it is harder to craft and that you'll need a lot of Stabilized Metal, so start stockpiling early.[2]

Tip: Treat Stabilized Metal as the main resource for this path. The quest text says the drill needs a lot of it, and the quest tells you to follow the recipes.[2]

How do you get started with StevesCarts2?

5 parts

Welcome to Steve's Carts! In this pack the mod's quest line starts with "Steve's Carts" quest, which asks you to make Component Stabilized Metal. The quest describes the mod as all about upgrading your carts, with everything from drills to guns to arcade machines. So your first goal is to get a Cart Assembler made and then work toward Stabilized Metal.[2]

Step by step

  1. Craft the Cart Assembler. The mod's own descriptions talk about cart assembling time, assembling efficiency and redstone controlled assembling. The pack changed this recipe, so use the one below rather than any mod default you remember.[3][4]
  2. Make Component Hardened Mesh, which is an ingredient in the next step.[3]
  3. Craft Component Stabilized Metal. This is the item the Steve's Carts quest asks for, and the pack changed its recipe too.[2][3]
  4. Aim for Module Galgadorian Drill, the goal of the quest "Galadorian Drills" quest. It comes after Steve's Carts in the quest chapter. The quest warns that it is harder to craft and needs a lot of Stabilized Metal.[2][3]

How does StevesCarts2 work?

3 parts

StevesCarts2 is built around modular carts. You put a cart together in the Cart Assembler, and a set of rules decides which modules fit on which hull. This section draws on the mod's own tooltip and error text plus the recipe dump for this pack.[3][4]

The Cart Assembler

The assembler builds carts from modules, and its tooltips show that assembly takes time. They list a module assembling time, a cart assembling time and a module disassembling time. This pack changed the assembler's crafting recipe, so don't rely on the mod's default.[3][4]

Recipe id: stevescarts:block/cart_assembler

The tooltips describe these assembler effects:[4]

  • Assembling efficiency, which is shown as a percentage.[4]
  • Redstone-controlled assembling.[4]
  • An input chest with a set number of slots.[4]
  • Deployment of finished carts.[4]
  • Disassembling and modifying carts, plus a transposer effect that can pick up carts for modifying.[4]
  • Blueprint carts.[4]
  • A bridge that connects the assembler with a Manager.[4]
  • Power from several sources: standard combustion fuel, a generator that produces a number of units per minute, a solar effect that only works while in the sun, and a thermal effect that powers the assembler with lava from an internal tank.[4]

The tooltips describe each of these as an effect. They don't say which item gives which effect, so check each tooltip in-game.[4]

Hull and module rules

Each hull limits what you can fit, and the mod has error messages for the rules you can break. These are the limits and errors it reports:[4]

  • Capacity: if the cost of your modules is greater than the capacity of the hull, you get an error. Hulls show a modular capacity value.[4]
  • Complexity: a hull has a module complexity cap, and a module that is too complex for it is rejected.[4]
  • Engines and addons: a hull shows a maximum engine count and a maximum addon count.[4]
  • Duplicates: some modules can be added more than once and others can't. The tooltip says "Duplicates are allowed" when they can.[4]
  • Parents: some modules require another module to work, and the message names the missing one.[4]
  • Conflicts: some modules won't work together, and tooltips list what a module conflicts with.[4]
  • Sides: a module can occupy sides of the cart, and two modules that want the same side will clash. Some modules occupy no sides at all.[4]
Tip: Module tooltips show "Press <key> for more info". Use that key on a module whenever you want the extra details the mod offers.[4]

Some modules also report their own status. The Information Provider addon, for example, shows coordinates and tells you whether a tool is being repaired or isn't damaged.[4]

Managers, distributor and rails

The mod has several logistics blocks: the Cargo Manager, the Liquid Manager, the External Distributor and the Module Toggler. It also has rails: the Junction Rail and the Advanced Detector Rail. The sources here don't explain how any of these behave, so I'm only covering their crafting. The pack changed the External Distributor, Liquid Manager, Module Toggler and Junction Rail recipes. The Cargo Manager and Advanced Detector Rail keep the mod's own recipes.[3]

How do you progress through StevesCarts2?

5 parts

Steve's Carts progression in this pack is guided by quests in the The ATM Star chapter. "Steve's Carts" quest asks you to make Component Stabilized Metal. "Galadorian Drills" quest comes after it and asks you to craft the Module Galgadorian Drill, which the quest calls the greatest drill you can attach to a cart.[2]

Electronics and the Cart Assembler

The pack changed the Cart Assembler recipe, and both Component Simple Pcb recipes in the pack are changed too. Other pack-changed recipes in this electronics line are the External Distributor, the Component Empty Disk and the Component Entity Analyzer.[3]

Stabilized Metal

This is the first big gate, and it is the task of the first quest. The pack changed the Stabilized Metal recipe, so don't rely on the mod's default. It uses a Component Hardened Mesh, which in turn uses a refined hardener.[2][3]

This hardened mesh recipe is the mod's own.

Tip: Stabilized Metal is what the rest of the path runs on. The Galadorian Drills quest warns that you'll need a lot of it, and the lump of Galgador recipe uses it too, so start stockpiling early.[2][3]

Galgadorian materials

The Component Lump Of Galgador is where Stabilized Metal pays off. Its recipe is pack-changed, while the Component Eye Of Galgador has the mod's own recipe. The Component Large Lump Of Galgador also has the mod's own recipe.[3]

The Galgadorian Drill

The drill is the final goal of the quest line, and its recipe is pack-changed. It is built on top of the Module Hardened Drill, so make that first. The Component Enhanced Galgadorian Metal it needs has the mod's own recipe, shown after the drill recipe.[2][3]

How does StevesCarts2 work with other mods?

2 parts

In this pack, the one recipe that uses a Steve's Carts item together with items from other mods is a custom shaped recipe the pack adds with KubeJS.[3]

Oblivion Shard

The Module Galgadorian Drill is one of the ingredients in the shaped recipe for the Oblivion Shard. The other ingredients come from several other mods, including Cataclysm, Forbidden Arcanus and Mega Showdown, so this is a real crossover between Steve's Carts and the rest of the pack. The recipe is below, exactly as the pack defines it.[3]

Quests

The quest "Steve's Carts" quest sits in the ATM Star chapter. Its task is to obtain Component Stabilized Metal. The quest text describes the mod as all about upgrading your carts, from drills to guns to arcade machines.[2]

After it comes "Galadorian Drills" quest, where you obtain the Module Galgadorian Drill. The quest text calls it the greatest drill you can attach to a cart and warns that crafting it takes a lot of Stabilized Metal. Both quests only ask for Steve's Carts items, so they don't mix in items from other mods.[2]

Tip: The Galgadorian Drill is the item that links both parts of this section: the Steve's Carts quest chain asks you to obtain it, and the pack's Oblivion Shard recipe uses it as an ingredient.[2][3]

Which All the Mons quests use StevesCarts2?

2 parts

Steve's Carts appears in the pack's quest book in the chapter called The ATM Star. The chapter has a short chain for this mod, and the quests go in order: you start with the intro quest and move on to the drill quest.[2]

Steve's Carts

"Steve's Carts" quest is your introduction to the mod. Its task is to get Component Stabilized Metal. The quest text describes the mod as all about upgrading your carts, with everything from drills to guns to arcade machines.[2]

Galadorian Drills

"Galadorian Drills" quest comes after Steve's Carts. Its task is to get the Module Galgadorian Drill. The quest text calls it the greatest drill you can attach to a cart, and warns that crafting it is more difficult, since you'll need a lot of Stabilized Metal. Its advice is to follow the recipes.[2]

Tip: The intro quest already has you getting Stabilized Metal, and the drill quest says you'll need a lot of it. Keep making it as you work toward the drill.[2]
