What is StevesCarts2?

This pack includes StevesCarts2 at version 1.2.18, using the file stevescarts-1.21-1.2.18-neoforge.jar. It has been in the pack since version 1.9 or earlier, so it is not a recent addition.[1]

Unverified The sources I have for this mod only cover its version and file name, so I can't confirm in-pack details such as its features, recipes, config values or any changes the pack makes to it.

How do you get started with StevesCarts2?

5 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10: To the Sky 2.0.4 guide

Steve's Carts 2 is built around modular carts, and in this pack everything starts at one block: the Cart Assembler. Here is the order I'd tackle things in, with the exact in-pack recipes so you don't have to guess.[2][3]

Start with the Cart Assembler

Make this first. The pack changed its recipe from the mod's, so use the one below. It also takes a Component Simple Pcb, which is why you'll keep seeing that item in this mod.[2]

Then the Advanced PCB

Next, craft the Component Advanced Pcb. The pack changed this recipe too, and it is built from a Simple PCB. You need it for the Module Toggler and for the Component Blank Upgrade.[2]

Track pieces

Once you can assemble carts, you'll want some track control. The Junction Rail has a pack-changed recipe, and the Advanced Detector Rail uses the mod's own recipe.[2]

Automation blocks

When you're ready to automate, look at the Module Toggler and the External Distributor, which both have pack-changed recipes. The Cargo Manager uses the mod's own recipe, and the Liquid Manager is changed by the pack.[2]

Good to know

Tip: The mod's own descriptions mention assembler effects such as redstone-controlled assembling, disassembling and modifying carts, and connecting the Assembler with a Manager.[3]
Watch out: When you design a cart, the game can refuse a build. You'll get an error if the modules cost more than the hull's capacity, or if a module is too complex for that hull. Modules can also conflict with each other or clash on the same side of the cart.[3]

How does StevesCarts2 work?

5 parts

The mod's screen text points to modular carts that you put together in a machine, with managers and other blocks that move things to and from the cart. The sources for this pack cover the language file and recipes, but not detailed mechanics, so this section sticks to what those show.[3][4]

Building carts at the Cart Assembler

Everything starts at the Cart Assembler. In the language file, its screen text tells you to start by adding a Cart Hull of your choice to the Hull Slot. The same file has labels for assembly progress, an Assemble cart button, and a Modify cart button.[3]

The screen text also names limits: hull capacity, a complexity cap, max addons and max engines. It has messages for an assembler that is busy, no hull, an item in the hull slot that is not a valid hull, and a cart in the Departure Bay. It also has an idle message ('The assembler is currently idle') and a 'Ready to assemble cart!' message.[3]

The pack changed the Cart Assembler recipe, so don't rely on the mod's default. This is the in-pack version:[4]

Managers and the External Distributor

The language file names the Cargo Manager, the Liquid Manager and the External Distributor. The distributor screen has a message saying it is not connected to any Managers, which suggests it links to managers. The file also mentions a Top Manager and a Bot Manager.[3]

The mod's screens offer a lot of control over transfers. You can choose the transfer direction, either from the cart or to the cart, and the transfer size. You can also choose which part of the cart is affected, such as all slots, storage slots, engine, seeds, saplings, fertilizer, torches, railers, arrows, explosives, firework, cakes, bridge material or buckets (for the milker). There are also settings for turn back behaviour and whether the cart continues along after a transfer.[3]

Sides and colours organise the slots. The slot layout can be shared by all sides, or each side or each colour can have its own slots. Tanks work the same way, shared by all sides, one per side, or one or more per colour. The distributor screen names the colours Red, Blue, Green and Yellow, and the side colours include Orange and Purple.[3]

The pack changed the recipes for both the distributor and the Liquid Manager. The Cargo Manager keeps the mod's own recipe.[4]

Controlling module behaviour

The Module Toggler has its own Module Toggler screen name in the language file. The same file lists many cart state labels, such as drill, shield, chunk loader or invisibility core active, rail, sapling, bridge or projectile supplies, storage or tank empty or full, and different passenger types. It also has Activate and Deactivate labels.[3]

The language file also includes the logic operator labels AND, OR, XOR and NOT, an OUTPUT label, and a redstone input label for each face. It does not say which screen they belong to, so check the in-game GUI before building around them.[3]

The pack changed the Module Toggler recipe too:[4]

Track pieces

The language file names two special rails: the Junction Rail and the Advanced Detector Rail. The pack changed the Junction Rail recipe, while the Advanced Detector Rail uses the mod's own recipe.[3][4]

Upgrade blocks

The language file also names a set of upgrade blocks. The sources don't describe what each one does, so I won't guess. Here is the full list of names:[3]

  • Power and engines (as named in the language file): Batteries, Generic engine, Power Crystal, Solar Panel and Thermal Engine.[3]
  • Cart handling (as named in the language file): Cart Crane, Cart Deployer, Cart Modifier and Manager Bridge.[3]
  • Assembler and module options (as named in the language file): Experienced assembler, Module input, Module knowledge, Production line, Quick Demolisher and Redstone Control.[3]
  • Others (as named in the language file): CO2 friendly, Creative Mode, Entropy, Industrial espionage and New Era.[3]
Tip: Many of the machine and component recipes were changed by the pack, including the Cart Assembler, External Distributor, Liquid Manager, Module Toggler and Junction Rail. Check the recipe blocks on this page or in-game before you plan a build.[4]

How do you progress through StevesCarts2?

4 parts

Many of this mod's recipes were changed by the pack, so the in-pack recipes below are the ones that count, not the mod defaults. Here is the order I'd work through them, from your first circuit board up to the Galgadorian gear.[4]

Unverified The sources here show no quest that involves this mod, so the order below follows the in-pack recipes. The pack's quest book is where any further guidance would live, and the sources here do not show it.

Circuit boards and the Cart Assembler

A lot of the mod runs on the Component Simple Pcb. The pack changed its recipe, and there are two crafting variants that give the same board. Once you can make it, you can build the Cart Assembler, which the pack also changed.[4]

Advanced circuits and utility blocks

The next jump is the Component Advanced Pcb, again with a pack-changed recipe. After that you can make the Module Toggler and the Component Blank Upgrade, both of which the pack also changed.[4]

Here is where the recipes for the other utility blocks come from:[4]

Wheels and blades

Wheels and saw blades are the clearest tier ladders in the mod. Here is the wheel ladder, with each recipe's origin:[4]

  1. Component Wooden Wheels: the mod's own recipe.[4]
  2. Component Iron Wheels: pack-changed recipe.[4]
  3. Component Reinforced Wheels: pack-changed recipe, and it uses the Reinforced Metal component.[4]
  4. Component Galgadorian Wheels: the mod's own recipe, and it uses the Galgadorian Metal component.[4]

Saw blades follow the same idea. The Component Saw Blade, Component Hardened Saw Blade and Component Galgadorian Saw Blade all have pack-changed recipes. The hardened one uses the Reinforced Metal component and the Galgadorian one uses the Galgadorian Metal component.[4]

The top end: Galgadorian materials

The expensive chain starts with the Component Raw Hardener, which the pack changed. It feeds into Component Stabilized Metal (also pack-changed) and then the Component Lump Of Galgador, another pack-changed recipe. The Component Eye Of Galgador used along the way keeps the mod's own recipe.[4]

The metals also exist as blocks: Reinforced Metal Block, Galgadorian Block and Enhanced Galgadorian Block. Each block has a recipe that turns it back into its component form, and all of those recipes are the mod's own.[4][5][6][7]
