What is Clumps?
1 part
Clumps is a small performance mod. It groups XP orbs into a single entity, which cuts lag when lots of orbs pile up in a small area. It also makes you collect orbs the moment they touch you, so you never get stuck with a swarm of orbs in your face.[1]
This pack includes Clumps 19.0.0.1 for NeoForge 1.21.1, and it has been part of the pack since the earliest version the mod list tracks. On Minecraft 1.17 or newer the mod is only required on the server side.[1][2]
Where it sits in the quest book
In the quests I can see, the pack's quest book has no quest for this mod. It runs in the background, so there is nothing to craft or set up.[3]
For example, "Making Oxygen for Purifier" quest has you feed Oxygen into a Purifier such as the Purification Chamber to get Ore Clumps. That chapter has 90 quests, and 76 of them aren't shown to me here, so check the quest book itself for the rest.[3]
How do you get started with Clumps?
1 part
Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide
Good news: Clumps doesn't ask you to craft anything or set anything up. It works in the background from the moment you load in, so there's no first item to make and no recipe to follow.[1]
What it does is group XP orbs together into a single entity. That cuts lag when lots of orbs pile up in a small area, for example around a big mob farm.[1]
It also changes how XP feels to pick up. The player collects orbs immediately once they touch you, so you aren't stuck with a bunch of orbs in your face.[1]
Server or client?
If you run your own server, the mod's project page says that for Minecraft 1.17 or newer it is only required on the server side. Older Minecraft versions need it on both sides.[1]
Unverified Whether this pack changes any Clumps behaviour is not confirmed by the available sources.
How does Clumps work?
3 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide
Clumps is a much simpler mod than the machine and multiblock mods you'll find elsewhere in the pack. It has no machines, no power, no fluids and nothing to automate. It works quietly in the background on one thing: XP orbs.[1]
Orb clumping
When lots of XP orbs end up in a small area, Clumps groups them into a single entity. Fewer entities means less lag, which helps a lot around XP farms and big mob fights.[1]
Instant pickup
Clumps also makes you collect an orb as soon as it touches you. You don't get stuck with a swarm of orbs floating in your face.[1]
Server or client
For Minecraft 1.17 or newer, the project page says Clumps is only required on the server side. For older Minecraft versions it has to be installed on both sides.[1]
Unverified No config options, items, recipes or in-game descriptions for Clumps could be confirmed from the available sources, so this guide doesn't list any tuning values or crafting steps for it. This site does hold All the Mods 10: To the Sky's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.
How do you progress through Clumps?
2 parts
Quick heads up before we start: the quest text I have for this section is the Mekanism chapter of the quest book, and that chapter uses the word "clump" for its own ore processing chain. Everything below describes those Mekanism quests, because that is what the pack's quest book spells out.[3]
Unverified None of the sources I have name an item, tier or quest that belongs to the Clumps mod itself (the clumps namespace), so I can't say how it plugs into this progression.
The four ore processing tiers in the quest book
The Mekanism chapter labels its ore processing quests as Tier 1 to Tier 4. Each tier gets you more out of the same ore, and the clumps show up from Tier 2 onwards.[3]
- Tier 1, "Enrich then Smelt" quest: just an enricher and a smelter. Ore Blocks give twice the dust, and Raw Ore gives 3 Raw Ore for 4 Dust. Then you smelt the dust into ingots.[3]
- Tier 2, "Making Oxygen for Purifier" quest: feed water into an Electrolytic Separator to get oxygen, then pipe the oxygen into a purifier. Ore Blocks give 3 Ore Clumps and Raw Ore gives 2 Ore Clumps. Then "Crush and Enrich our Clumps" quest tells you to crush each clump into 1 Dirty Ore Dust, enrich it into regular dust, and smelt that into ingots.[3]
- Tier 3, "Making Chlorine" quest then "Injecting Hydrogen Chloride" quest: a Thermal Evaporation Plant makes brine, the separator turns brine into sodium and chlorine, and a Chemical Infuser combines hydrogen and chlorine into hydrogen chloride. A Chemical Injection Chamber then turns Ore Blocks into 4 Ore Shards, or 3 Raw Ores into 8 Ore Shards.[3]
- Tier 3 finish, "Shard, to Clump, to Dust, to Ingot" quest: purify the shards with oxygen into clumps, then crush, enrich and smelt like in the previous tier.[3]
- Tier 4, "Creating Sulfuric Acid" quest then "Melting Ores with Acid and Crystallizing them" quest: you build sulfuric acid from sulfur, dissolve ores into Dirty Ore Slurry, clean it in a Chemical Washer, and crystallize it. Every 200mb of Ore Slurry makes 1 Crystal.[3]
The Tier 4 chain continues in "Crystal, Shard, Clump, ETC" quest, which turns shards back into clumps, dust and finally processed ore. Its prerequisite quest is not among the quest text I have, so check the quest book for that step.[3]
The "Purification Chamber" quest quest sits after Better Machines and Enrichment Chamber. It describes the Purification Chamber as combining ores with oxygen to make clumps rather than ingots.[3]
Machine tiers
Separate from ore processing, the chapter has a machine tier line: "Basic Tier" quest, then "Advanced Tier" quest, then "Elite Tier" quest. Basic is made from Redstone, Basic Control Circuits and sometimes Iron, Advanced uses Infused Alloys and an Advanced Control Circuit, and Elite uses Reinforced Alloys and Elite Control Circuits.[3]
Some quests in this chapter weren't included in the text I have, so for the rest of the chapter, open the quest book and read it there.[3]
Which All the Mods 10: To the Sky quests use Clumps?
2 parts
Here's the honest picture: none of the quest tasks I can see in the quest book ask for an item from the Clumps mod itself. The quests that mention clumps are about ore clumps, which come from ore processing in Mekanism and Oritech. The mod is also not on the ATM Star quest path. Here are the quests where clumps show up, in the order the book gives them.[3][4]
Mekanism: ore processing tiers
In the Mekanism chapter, ore clumps appear from the second tier of ore processing onwards. The tier 1 quest is "Enrich then Smelt" quest, and it only needs an enricher and a smelter. The clump quests come after it.[3]
- "Making Oxygen for Purifier" quest (Tier 2) comes after Machines. You feed water into an electrolytic separator to get oxygen for a purifier. Ore Blocks then give 3 ore clumps and Raw Ore gives 2.[3]
- "Crush and Enrich our Clumps" quest (Tier 2) follows. You crush each clump to get 1 dirty ore dust, enrich it to clean it, then smelt the dust into ingots.[3]
- "Making Chlorine" quest (Tier 3) comes after Machines. It has you set up a Thermal Evaporation Plant to make brine, then split the brine into sodium and chlorine.[3]
- "Injecting Hydrogen Chloride" quest (Tier 3) follows. You make Hydrogen Chloride and use it in a Chemical Injection Chamber to turn ores into shards.[3]
- "Shard, to Clump, to Dust, to Ingot" quest (Tier 3) comes next. You purify the shards back into clumps, crush them, enrich them, and smelt the result into ingots.[3]
- "Creating Sulfuric Acid" quest, "Melting Ores with Acid and Crystallizing them" quest and "Making more Hydrogen Chloride" quest (all Tier 4) form the acid route. In it, ores become slurry, then crystals, then shards again.[3]
- "Crystal, Shard, Clump, ETC" quest (Tier 4) is the last one. Oxygen turns the shards into clumps, and then you crush, enrich and smelt them.[3]
Oritech
The Oritech chapter has a quest called "Clumps" quest, described as fragmenting raw ores. It comes after a Refinery quest. The book doesn't give an item id for its task, so I can't tell you which item it asks for.[4]
After that comes "Spinning into gems" quest. It asks for a gem such as copper, platinum, gold, nickel, uranium or iron. You use a fluid addon on a centrifuge to add Sulphuric Acid, or Water for a lower yield. The quest also warns that some recipes that output dusts or nuggets are currently broken.[4]
What changed in Clumps between versions?
1 part
All the Mods 10: To the Sky 2.0.4 ships Clumps 19.0.0.1, in the NeoForge build for Minecraft 1.21.1. It has been in the pack since 1.0 or earlier, so you won't find an "added in" moment in the recent releases.[2]
The mod's own changelog for 19.0.0.1 is mostly about keeping up with Minecraft versions. Here are the notable entries, newest first.[5]
Clumps 19.0.0.1 changelog
- Port to 1.21.1, which also fixed the Forge version not working.[5]
- Forge support was restored, with the change contributed by Paint_Ninja.[5]
- Ports to 1.21, 1.20.6, 1.20.5, 1.20.4 and 1.20.3, each as its own step.[5]
- A fix for the refmap not being used.[5]
- NeoForge support was added.[5]
That NeoForge support is the part that matters for you, because it is the build this pack uses.[2][5]
Unverified No pack changelog entries mentioning Clumps were available, so any changes to it between pack releases are unverified.

Items and blocks
We can't match this mod to the pack's item list: it registers as clumps, and the pack's recipe dump has nothing under that name. That means we found nothing, not that the mod adds nothing. Search the item browser
