What is Ars Elemental?

1 part

This pack includes Ars Elemental version 0.7.8.4, built for Minecraft 1.21.1. It has been in the pack since 0.3.0-beta or earlier.[1]

The pack's quest book only shows one side of the mod: its four elemental armor sets. They sit in the "Basic Armor" chapter, which has 113 quests in total. Each set has its own quest, and each quest asks for the full set: hat, robes, leggings and boots.[2]

Where it sits in the quest book

All four outfits are in "Basic Armor", next to other armor sets from across the pack: vanilla tiers, Twilight Forest and Undergarden gear, and the Ars Nouveau outfits (Arcanist, Battlemages and Sorceror's). The book describes those Ars Nouveau outfits as the iron, diamond and gold versions of the Ars armors.[2]

The sources I have don't show the order of the quests on the chapter's screen, so I can't say which quest comes directly before or after the Ars Elemental ones. 64 of the chapter's quests also weren't included, so check the quest book for those.[2]

How do you get started with Ars Elemental?

3 parts

Ars Elemental sits on top of Ars Nouveau, and the pack's quest book gives it a "Basic Armor" chapter with one outfit quest per element: "Geomancer Outfit" quest for Earth, "Aquamancer Outfit" quest for Water, "Pyromancer Outfit" quest for Fire and "Aethermancer Outfit" quest for Air. Each quest asks you to get a hat, robes, leggings and boots of that element.[2][3]

The order to work in

  1. Get a Mark of Mastery first. The elemental armor upgrade recipes use one per piece, and so does the major Focus of Air. The mod's advancement hint says you combine the essences with the tribute to obtain it.[3][4]
  2. Make the matching Ars Nouveau armor piece. In this pack the elemental armor is an upgrade of an Ars Nouveau piece, so you start from that base.[3]
  3. Pick an element and upgrade each piece. The recipe block below shows the exact in-pack recipe.[3]

Armor Upgrade (sauce)

Recipe id: ars_elemental:fire_robes

Example: Pyromancer's Robes. The other pieces follow the same upgrade pattern with their own element's essence.

Watch out: Every armor piece upgrade uses its own Mark of Mastery and a netherite ingot, so plan for that cost across a whole set before you start.[3]

Which element should you pick?

Each set gives a bonus when you wear it, so choose by the danger you face most.[4]

  • Air: absorbs some air-related damage and converts it into mana, and highly reduces fall damage.[4]
  • Water: absorbs some water-related damage and converts it into mana, and refills your air if you are about to drown.[4]
  • Earth: absorbs some earth-related damage and converts it into mana, and gives you food deep underground if you are about to starve.[4]
  • Fire: absorbs some fire-related damage and converts it into mana, and instantly clears fire.[4]

Good extras

The Trinkets Pouch has its own advancement in the mod ("Acquire a Trinkets Pouch"), and it has a plain crafting recipe.[3][4]

Once you have a Mark of Mastery to spare, you can upgrade a Lesser Focus of Air into the major Focus of Air. The other elements have matching lesser and major focus advancements. One advancement hint says that wearing an air focus lets Launch plus Extend Time make a mob levitate.[3][4]

How does Ars Elemental work?

6 parts

The sources for Ars Elemental in this pack cover its crafting methods, elemental gear, familiars, rituals, glyph behavior and enchantments. They do not describe machines, multiblocks, power, fluids or item automation, so this section sticks to what they do confirm.[3][4]

Where things get crafted

Ars Elemental items use several crafting methods. The simple ones, like the Advanced Spell Prism and the Trinkets Pouch, use ordinary shaped crafting in the pack.[3]

Foci and elemental armor

Elemental gear comes in tiers. The pack has lesser foci, such as the Lesser Focus of Air, and major foci, such as the Focus of Air. The advancement text describes both tiers for Air, Earth, Fire and Water, and mentions a Necromancy focus too. The tooltip says you can hold a key to read more focus info in-game.[3][4]

The Air armor line in this pack includes Aethermancer's Hat, Aethermancer's Boots, Olympian's Hood, Thunderguard's Helmet, Thunderguard's Chestplate and Thunderguard's Boots.[3]

Recipe id: ars_elemental:air_boots

The tooltip text says you can hold a key to see set info for the armor. These are the set descriptions it gives:[4]

  • Air: the set description says it absorbs some air-related damage and converts it into mana, and highly reduces fall damage.[4]
  • Water: the set description says it absorbs some water-related damage and converts it into mana, and refills air if you are about to drown.[4]
  • Earth: the set description says it absorbs some earth-related damage and converts it into mana, and gives food deep underground if you are about to starve.[4]
  • Fire: the set description says it absorbs some fire-related damage and converts it into mana, and instantly clears fire.[4]

Familiars

The familiar descriptions say each one is obtained by performing the Ritual of Binding near the matching creature. They cover these familiars:[4]

  • Flarecannon Familiar: increases Fire spell damage by 2 and reduces projectile-based spell costs by 20%. You can feed it a Magma Cream to get a short Fire Resistance buff.[4]
  • Flashjack Familiar: increases Lightning spell damage by 2 and reduces movement-based spell costs by 20%. You can feed it a Flashpine to get a short Speed and Night Vision buff.[4]
  • Siren Familiar: increases Water spell damage by 2 and gives the summoner Dolphin Grace II while in water.[4]

Rituals

Ritual items from the mod in this pack include Attraction, Repulsion, Detection, Fast Squirrels and Zapping. There are also archwood ones: Conjure Island: Archwood Forest and Forestation - Archwood. The Flashing Archwood Sapling is another item from the mod.[3]

Spell glyph behavior

A lot of the mod's depth is in how its glyphs combine. These are the details the glyph descriptions give:[4]

  • Arc Projectile is affected by gravity, and every Pierce applied makes it bounce one time when it hits the ground.[4]
  • Homing Projectile seeks the nearest entity and follows it, and behaves as a classic projectile while there are no valid targets. Players are targeted only if it is augmented by Sensitive.[4]
  • Carian Phalanx summons floating projectiles that orbit you and launch at nearby enemies. You can have up to 5 orbiting at once, and casting more dismisses the oldest.[4]
  • Life Link shares damage dealt to you with the target, and shares the target's healing with you. Sensitive reverses the direction of the link and Cut can sever it.[4]
  • Conjure Terrain places Dirt or other terrain blocks. One Amplify places cobblestone and two place cobbled deepslate. If followed by Smelt (with Amplify) it can place Stone or Deepslate, and if followed by Crush it can place Sand.[4]
  • Filter glyphs, such as the aerial, aquatic, fiery and insect filters, stop the spell from resolving depending on the target type. Each has a "not" version that works the opposite way.[4]

Enchantments

  • Mirror Shield can only be applied on the Enchanter's Shield. It gives a chance of reflecting a spell projectile while blocking, 25% per level.[4]
  • Soulbound prevents the enchanted item from being lost on death.[4]
Tip: The recipes shown above are marked as the mod's own recipes in the pack dump. The recipe blocks show the in-pack version, so trust those over any wiki you find elsewhere.[3]

How do you progress through Ars Elemental?

4 parts

Ars Elemental in this pack builds on Ars Nouveau gear. Most of the progression is taking Ars Nouveau armor and upgrading it into an elemental set. The quest book follows the elemental outfits, and the recipes show where you can go from there.[2][3]

The elemental outfits (quest armor)

The Basic Armor quest chapter gives each element its own outfit quest. Each asks you to hold the hat, robes, leggings and boots of the set. They are "Geomancer Outfit" quest for Earth, "Aquamancer Outfit" quest for Water, "Pyromancer Outfit" quest for Fire and "Aethermancer Outfit" quest for Air.[2]

These pieces use the armor upgrade recipe type, and each piece is an upgrade of the matching Ars Nouveau armor piece. The Air hat is shown here as the example. The robes, leggings and boots of every element follow the same pattern, and each uses Mark of Mastery.[3]

Recipe id: ars_elemental:air_hat

Other armor lines

The recipes also show Air and Water sets that upgrade other Ars Nouveau armor. The Sorcerer line gives you Olympian's Hood, Olympian's Tunic, Olympian's Pants and Olympian's Shoes for Air, and the Nereid's set (Nereid's Hood) for Water. The Battlemage line gives you the Thunderguard's set for Air, starting with Thunderguard's Helmet, and the Winterguard's set (Winterguard's Helmet) for Water. They use the same armor upgrade recipe type as the quest outfits.[3]

Foci, bangles and bags

Next are the enchanting apparatus items. Focus of Air is made from Lesser Focus of Air and a Mark of Mastery. Air Infused Turret is made from that focus, and Air Bangle and Anima Bangle both start from Enchanter's Bangle.[3]

Watch out: The pack changed the recipes for Enchanter's Bangle, Spellcaster Bag and Slipstream Current Elevator. Trust the recipes shown here, not the mod's defaults or older guides.[3]

The Spellcaster Bag is built from Trinkets Pouch, so craft the Trinkets Pouch first. That one is a plain crafting recipe.[3]

Side branches: prisms and rituals

Advanced Spell Prism is crafted from a regular Ars Nouveau Spell Prism. The lenses are separate: Acceleration Prism Lens, Deceleration Prism Lens and Arc Prism Lens are imbuement recipes, while Chaining Prism Lens is made at the enchanting apparatus.[3]

Rituals are shapeless crafting recipes. The ones shown in the recipe list are Attraction, Repulsion, Detection, Fast Squirrels, Zapping, Conjure Island: Archwood Forest and Forestation - Archwood. Several of them use Flashing Archwood Log.[3]

This is the recipe for the Flashing Archwood Sapling.

Tip: The Basic Armor quests only ask for the elemental outfits. Mark of Mastery appears in the armor upgrades and in the Focus of Air recipe, so check the recipe pages as your checklist for the rest.[2][3]

How does Ars Elemental work with other mods?

3 parts

The cross-mod links for Ars Elemental in this pack are thin. The only in-pack recipe that uses another mod's crafting type is the pair of focus crafts, which use the Ars Nouveau Enchanting Apparatus. The quests in the pack only check for Ars Elemental gear.[2][3]

Ars Nouveau's Enchanting Apparatus

Both Focus of Cinder and Focus of Elemancy are crafted in the Ars Nouveau Enchanting Apparatus. They take Ars Elemental's elemental foci as inputs, so the Apparatus is how you turn those foci into the combined ones.[3]

Armor upgrade chain

The combined armor is built by upgrading Ars Elemental gear. Cindermancer Hat is upgraded from Ars Elemental hats, and Elemancer Hat is upgraded from two hybrid hats, such as the Cinder and Mire ones. Every one of these upgrades also uses Mark of Mastery. The same pattern repeats for robes, hoods, heavy armor and bangles.[3]

Most of these armor upgrades use the crafting type sauce:armor_upgrade, while the bangle upgrades use ars_elemancy:armor_upgrade.[3]

Quests

The Basic Armor chapter of the quest book has one quest per Ars Elemental outfit: "Geomancer Outfit" quest for Earth, "Aquamancer Outfit" quest for Water, "Pyromancer Outfit" quest for Fire and "Aethermancer Outfit" quest for Air. Each one only asks for the hat, robes, leggings and boots of that element, so none of them involve items from another mod.[2]

Which All the Mons quests use Ars Elemental?

1 part

Ars Elemental shows up in the "Basic Armor" chapter of the quest book, a big chapter with 113 quests about armor sets, ingots and armor trims. Here the mod gets four quests, one per element, and each one asks you to hand in a full outfit: hat, robes, leggings and boots.[2]

The chapter's own intro quest, "Basic Armor" quest, asks for a smithing table. Its text explains armor points and how armor trims change the look of your gear.[2]

The four elemental outfits

Each quest simply wants all four pieces of its outfit, and the quest texts only name the element. You can go after the four sets in whatever order suits your build.[2]
