What is The Outer End?

4 parts

The Outer End expands the End dimension with new biomes, structures and mobs, so a trip to the End is worth more than a dragon fight and an End city raid. This pack includes it as The Outer End 1.0.0 (file TheOuterEnd-1.0.13.jar).[1][2]

Biomes

  • The Azure Forest: a blue, life-filled oasis with giant flowers and spectraflies.[1]
  • The Crystal Crag: a barren stone landscape of arches and crystals that grow slowly over time.[1]
  • The Primordial Pools: an ancient zone with large pools of brine and Sinkers, the ancestors of Shulkers.[1]

Structures

End Towers have multiple levels and will eventually hold a boss on the top level. Underneath each one is a giant underground labyrinth with a lot of loot, but also real challenges. Elytra and other valuable items can rarely turn up in the maze's loot rooms, so explore each one fully.[1]

The Catacombs are a structure made of an opening staircase and a maze. The loot there is good, so clearing them pays off.[1]

Mobs

  • Purpur Golem: spawns near End cities and hurls you away if you get too close. They are strong, so approach carefully.[1]
  • Himmelite: spawns in the End Tower labyrinths and swarms and bites you.[1]
  • Entombed: the guards of the Catacombs.[1]
  • Stalker: a neutral creature native to the Crystal Crag, breedable with Chorus Fruit.[1]
  • Sinker: a mollusc that covers itself in a bubble of brine and shoots projectiles that slow you down.[1]

Music and compatibility

The mod adds 14 ambient tracks. The Azure Forest and the Crystal Crag have their own biome music, and there are also music discs. It is compatible with The Endergetic Expansion and BetterEndForge.[1]

How do you get started with The Outer End?

4 parts

The Outer End adds new biomes to the End: the Azure Forest, the Crystal Crag and the Primordial Pools. Your first items come from what you gather out there, so here is a sensible order to work through them.[1][3]

Start with Azure wood

Wood comes first. Azure Planks are the base for nearly all the azure building items, such as the Azure Boat, Azure Door, Azure Fence, Azure Sign, Azure Button and Azure Pressure Plate. One craft gives you 4 planks, so stock up early.[4]

Crafting Shaped

You can also turn Azure Stem into Azure Pith, and one craft gives you 3.[4]

Get food sorted

Stalker Meat becomes Stalker Steak in a furnace, a smoker or over a campfire. The Stalker itself is a neutral creature native to the Crystal Crag, and you can breed it with Chorus Fruit.[1][4]

Alloy Smelting (enderio)

The pack adds this Ender IO alloy smelting recipe for cooking Stalker Meat on top of the mod's own recipes.

Halite Crystal also lets you cure food into Cured Chorus Fruit and Cured Jerky.[4]

Brine and Violite

The Primordial Pools are full of brine. Halite Crystal is also what you need for a Brine Bucket, so keep a few spare.[1][4]

If you want to build with Violite, stonecutting turns Violite or Violite Bricks into Chiseled Violite Bricks and Violite Brick Pillar. Smelting Violite Bricks gives you Cracked Violite Bricks, and the pack adds an Ender IO alloy smelting version of that as well.[4]

Crystal armor

The mod has Cobalt, Mint and Rose crystal themes. Cobalt and Mint armor is made at a smithing table by upgrading diamond armor with a crystal shard and the matching upgrade template.[3][4]

Recipe id: outer_end:cobalt_boots

The other Cobalt armor pieces use the same smithing setup.

Watch out: This pack changed the recipes for Cobalt Upgrade Template, Mint Upgrade Template and Rose Upgrade Template. Each craft now makes 2 templates, so check the recipe below rather than trusting the mod's defaults.[4]

How does The Outer End work?

5 parts

The Outer End is a content expansion for the End. The sources describe new biomes, structures and mobs, plus building blocks, food and crystal armor. They describe no machines, power or fluid systems for the mod, so there is nothing of that kind to learn here.[1][3]

What does matter is how its items plug into the other tech and crafting mods in this pack. Here is what the sources confirm.[1][4]

Cooking Stalker Meat and Azure Berries

Stalkers are neutral creatures native to the Crystal Crag, and you can breed them with Chorus Fruit. Stalker Meat cooks into Stalker Steak. Besides the normal furnace, you can use a smoker or a campfire.[1][4]

Azure Berries work the same way. The mod smelts them into Floral Paste, and the pack adds an Ender IO alloy smelting recipe for it as well.[4]

Stalker Meat and Stalker Steak are also two of the many ingredients in the pack's Cosmic Meatballs recipe. It is a shapeless Extended Crafting table recipe that makes 8 Cosmic Meatballs.[5]

Ancient Ice in the NuclearCraft irradiator

The pack adds an irradiator recipe that takes Ancient Ice and 1,000 of cryotheum and turns it into a Supercold Ice Block. The recipe leaves the power and radiation modifiers at the script defaults of 1.0 and the time modifier at 0.5.[6]

You can make Ancient Ice itself by crafting. It also has cap and column variants.[4]

Building blocks

Stonecutters handle a lot of the shaping. The sources count 28 stonecutting recipes for the mod. A Himmel Block can be cut into a Himmel Pillar or a Himmel Slab. Violite and mossy violite blocks also have stonecutting recipes.[4]

How do you progress through The Outer End?

4 parts

The recipes the pack gives The Outer End fall into a few natural steps: crystal armor, violite building blocks, and food and gear. Here is how they fit together.[4]

Unverified The sources here do not show any quest chapter covering The Outer End, so this section follows the recipes rather than the quest book.

Crystal armor tiers

There are three crystal armor sets: Cobalt, Mint and Rose. Each has a helmet, chestplate, leggings and boots, and every piece is made at a smithing table as an upgrade of the matching diamond piece, using that tier's shard and upgrade template.[4]

Recipe id: outer_end:mint_helmet

The pack changed the recipes for the upgrade templates, so don't rely on the mod's defaults. This applies to the Cobalt Upgrade Template, the Mint Upgrade Template and the Rose Upgrade Template. The Cobalt one is shown below.[4]

Shards matter beyond armor. Each tier has its own crystal arrow, and the Cobalt Crystal Shard also leads to Cobalt Crystal and Cobalt Crystalline Berries.[4]

Violite building blocks

Violite and Violite Bricks are the base of the stone set. Slabs, stairs, walls, pillars and chiseled bricks can all be stonecut straight from violite. The bricks can also be stonecut into chiseled bricks, pillars, slabs and stairs.[4]

Violite comes in cracked and mossy variants: Cracked Violite Bricks, Cracked Violite Tiles and the mossy versions that use Ender Roots. The pack adds Ender IO alloy smelter recipes for the cracked ones, and the bricks version is shown below.[4]

Food and gear

Stalker Meat cooks into Stalker Steak in a furnace, a smoker or a campfire, and the pack adds an Ender IO alloy smelter route for it as well. The pack also adds an alloy smelter route for turning Azure Berries into Floral Paste.[4]

Halite Crystal shows up in the curing and brine items: Cured Jerky, Cured Chorus Fruit and the Brine Bucket. For gear, there are the Sinker Dagger and the Shulker Shield, and the recipes below show how the Sinker Tooth and the Levitation Core fit in.[4]

Azure wood and chests

The Azure wood set is crafted from Azure Planks in the usual way, giving boats, signs, doors, fences and more. The pack also ships recipe data files for the Azure chest and the Azure trapped chest, and both files contain only an empty object.[4][7][8]

How does The Outer End work with other mods?

2 parts

The Outer End connects with other mods in this pack through the recipes below. In both, one of its items is an ingredient: one feeds a food item, the other makes a NuclearCraft block.[4]

Cosmic Meatballs (Avaritia and Extended Crafting)

Cosmic Meatballs is made in an Extended Crafting shapeless table, and the pack has changed this recipe from the default. Stalker Meat and Stalker Steak from The Outer End are among its ingredients, alongside foods from several other mods and vanilla Minecraft. One craft gives you 8 Cosmic Meatballs.[4]

Supercold Ice Block (NuclearCraft)

The pack adds a NuclearCraft irradiator recipe that turns Ancient Ice into a Supercold Ice Block. Besides the Ancient Ice, it needs 1,000 of any cryotheum.[4]

What changed in The Outer End between versions?

1 part

There isn't much history to cover here. This pack ships The Outer End 1.0.0 (file TheOuterEnd-1.0.13.jar), and it has been in the pack since Project Infinity 0.1 0.0.45.4 or earlier.[2]

The Outer End 1.0.0

  • Adds modified exaggerated generation starting at 10,000 blocks from the center island. This is the one change the mod's own changelog lists for this version.[9]

Unverified No pack changelog entries for The Outer End were available, so any changes the pack made to this mod across its releases are unverified.
