What is Multi Builder Tool?
3 parts
Multi Builder Tool (MBTool) builds multiblock structures for you with one click, so you don't have to place every block by hand. The pack includes version 1.0.27, and it has been in the pack since Project Infinity 0.1 0.0.45.4 or earlier.[1][2]
How it works
- Hold SHIFT and left-click to open the GUI.[1]
- Select the structure you want and build it. The arrow keys rotate it.[1]
- Make sure the required blocks are in your inventory first, because the tool doesn't supply them.[1]
The project page says the tool supports structures from Mekanism, Immersive Engineering, Immersive Petroleum, NuclearCraft, QMD, IC2, TConstruct, Extreme Reactors and Draconic Evolution. You can also add your own multistructures in the mod configs.[1]
What building costs
Building uses RF/EU energy and your XP, and it makes you hungrier. The project page lists these defaults: 10 RF and 1 XP per block placed, an energy capacity of 10,000 RF, and 1 saturation lost per building. I can't confirm from the sources whether the pack changes any of these values, so check your in-game config if the numbers matter to you.[1]
In the quest book
The pack's quest book has no quests involving this mod, so it has no chapter or group there, and nothing comes before or after it. It is also not on the ATM Star path. Treat it as an optional helper you can use whenever you build a supported multiblock.[2]
How do you get started with Multi Builder Tool?
2 parts
The Multibuilder Tool builds multiblock structures for you instead of you placing every block by hand. The pack has a crafting recipe for it, so your first step is simply making it.[1][3]
Crafting Shaped

Recipe id: mbtool:mbtool
This is the pack's shaped crafting recipe for the Multibuilder Tool.
Your first steps, in order
- Craft the Multibuilder Tool with the recipe above.[3]
- Check its energy. The tooltip shows Energy Stored against the maximum. In this pack the maximum is 10,000,000 FE ([[config:config/mbtool-common.toml#Energy Settings.maxEnergy]]), each block placed costs 100 FE ([[config:config/mbtool-common.toml#Energy Settings.energyPerBlock]]), and charging or discharging moves up to 100,000 FE per tick ([[config:config/mbtool-common.toml#Energy Settings.energyTransferRate]]). If you run short, the tool tells you how much energy it needs.[4][5]
- Open the tool's screen. The mod's project page says to use Shift plus left click. Pick Select Structure, choose what you want to build, and use the arrow keys to rotate it before placing.[1][4]
- Gather the blocks the structure needs. You have to carry the required blocks, and if you are short the tool says how many more of a block you need. The tool also has its own inventory, and it warns you when there isn't enough room for the structure's items.[1][4]
- Build it. When it works, you get a message saying how many blocks were placed and from which structure.[4]
Good to know early
- The pack lets the builder swap in equivalent blocks. For example, if a structure asks for an elite mechanical pipe and you only have a basic one, the builder uses the basic pipe. The groups are set in [[config:config/mbtool-common.toml#Block Replacement Settings.blockEquivalencySets]] and cover things like Mekanism pipes, NuclearCraft reactor glass and casing, and several other mods' parts.[5]
- If you use ME storage, the screen has toggles for Use ME Wireless Inventory (you need a wireless terminal in your inventory) and Autocraft Missing Blocks. The autocraft option is marked experimental in the mod's own text.[4]
- There is also a Multiblock Structure category in the recipe viewer, where you can browse structures.[4]
- For NuclearCraft reactors, the screen has a button to paste a reactor design from your clipboard. It accepts JSON, file paths and URLs.[4]
How does Multi Builder Tool work?
8 parts
The Multibuilder Tool builds whole multiblock structures for you instead of you placing every block by hand. You open its GUI with SHIFT and left click, pick a structure, and build. The arrow keys rotate the structure before you place it.[1]
The mod's project page lists structures from Mekanism, Immersive Engineering, Immersive Petroleum, NuclearCraft, QMD, IC2, TConstruct, Extreme Reactors and Draconic Evolution. It also says you can add your own multistructures in the mod configs.[1]
Getting the tool
Crafting Shaped

Recipe id: mbtool:mbtool
This is the pack's crafting recipe for the Multibuilder Tool.
Choosing and building a structure
The GUI has a Select Structure screen, and each structure button shows its dimensions. The mod also adds a Multiblock Structure category to the recipe viewer, with a Load into Multibuilder Tool tooltip so you can send a structure straight to the tool.[4]
The mod ships names for a few specific structures: PA Advanced Chemical Reactor, Extreme Turbine (Reinforced), Extreme Reactor (Reinforced) and IG Small Chemical Reactor.[4]
If you build without picking a structure first, the tool tells you to use the GUI to select one. It also refuses to place a structure that would go past the world build height limits, and it won't place or break blocks in a protected area.[4]
Blocks and inventory
You need the required blocks in your inventory to build. If you are short, the tool tells you how many more of a block you need. The tool also has its own inventory, and its tooltip shows how many slots are used. If there is no room for the structure's items in that inventory, it warns you.[1][4]
Energy
The tool stores energy in FE. Its tooltip shows the energy stored against the maximum, and building or dismantling with too little energy fails with a message telling you how much you need. The pack sets these values in the common config file.[4][5]
- [[config:config/mbtool-common.toml#Energy Settings.energyPerBlock]] is 100 FE per block placed (allowed range 1 to 10,000).[5]
- [[config:config/mbtool-common.toml#Energy Settings.maxEnergy]] is 10,000,000 FE, the tool's maximum capacity (allowed range 100,000 to 100,000,000).[5]
- [[config:config/mbtool-common.toml#Energy Settings.energyTransferRate]] is 100,000 FE/tick for charging and discharging (allowed range 10,000 to 1,000,000).[5]
Block replacement
The tool can swap in equivalent blocks when you don't have the exact one. If a structure needs an elite mechanical pipe and you only have a basic one, the builder uses the basic pipe. The groups of interchangeable blocks are listed in [[config:config/mbtool-common.toml#Block Replacement Settings.blockEquivalencySets]], one group per entry.[5]
This pack defines these groups:[5]
- The Mekanism mechanical pipe tiers, from basic to ultimate.[5]
- The mm item, fluid and energy ports, grouped by type and by input or output across their size tiers.[5]
- The Blood Magic runes, including the variants ending in 2.[5]
- The Void Miners modifiers, with separate groups for the miner modifiers and the solar modifiers.[5]
- The assembler matrix wall and glass from expatternprovider, and the matrix crafter and pattern blocks from extendedae_plus.[5]
- The NuclearCraft fission reactor glass and casing.[5]
Dismantling
Hold F to dismantle a structure, and a progress percentage is shown while you hold it. You can only dismantle structures you built yourself, and not in a protected area. Dismantling needs energy too. When it finishes, you are told how many blocks were collected.[4]
AE2 ME network integration
The GUI has two ME options. Use ME Wireless Inventory requires a wireless terminal in your inventory. Autocraft Missing Blocks requests ME autocrafting for blocks you lack when building. The GUI labels autocrafting as experimental and asks you to post bugs if you hit problems.[4]
Autocrafting can fail for several reasons, and each has its own message: the ME network is not available, there is no pattern for the block, ingredients are missing, or all crafting CPUs are busy.[4]
NuclearCraft reactor designs
The GUI has a paste button for NuclearCraft reactor designs from your clipboard. It accepts JSON, file paths and URLs, and it reports whether the design loaded or failed to parse. If the clipboard is empty, it tells you so.[4]
How do you progress through Multi Builder Tool?
There is no tier ladder to climb with this mod. The recipe dump for the pack lists exactly one recipe that makes a Multi Builder Tool item, and it produces the Multibuilder Tool. You craft one tool and that's it, with no upgrade steps in between.[3]
It is a shaped crafting recipe that comes from the mod itself. Nothing in the sources shows the pack changing it, so the recipe below is the one you use in this pack.[3]

Which Multi Builder Tool config options matter?
2 parts
Everything here lives in one file, config/mbtool-common.toml. It has two groups of options: the energy settings, which decide how much power the tool holds and spends, and the block replacement sets, which decide what the builder may swap in when you lack an exact block.[5]
Energy settings
- [[config:config/mbtool-common.toml#Energy Settings.energyPerBlock]] is the energy cost for each block placed, in FE. This pack sets it to 100, and the allowed range is 1 to 10,000.[5]
- [[config:config/mbtool-common.toml#Energy Settings.maxEnergy]] is the most FE the Multibuilder Tool can store. This pack sets it to 10,000,000, and the allowed range is 100,000 to 100,000,000.[5]
- [[config:config/mbtool-common.toml#Energy Settings.energyTransferRate]] is the transfer rate for charging and discharging, in FE per tick. This pack sets it to 100,000, and the allowed range is 10,000 to 1,000,000.[5]
With these values, the per-block cost and the capacity are the two numbers to watch when you plan a big build.[5]
Block replacement sets
[[config:config/mbtool-common.toml#Block Replacement Settings.blockEquivalencySets]] is a list of groups of blocks that count as equivalent. If a structure asks for one block in a group and you only carry another from the same group, the builder uses what you have. The config's own example is a structure that needs an elite mechanical pipe: if you only have a basic mechanical pipe, the builder places the basic one.[5]
This pack fills the list with these groups:[5]
- The basic, advanced, elite and ultimate Mekanism mechanical pipes.[5]
- The item, fluid and energy ports from the mm namespace, with input and output kept as separate groups and each size tier listed together within its group.[5]
- Blood Magic runes, with the base runes and their second variants together in one group.[5]
- Void Miners modifiers, with the energy, speed and item modifiers in one group and the solar efficiency and weather modifiers in another.[5]
- The assembler matrix wall and glass from the expatternprovider namespace, and the matching crafter and pattern blocks from the extendedae_plus namespace.[5]
- NuclearCraft fission reactor glass and casing.[5]
What changed in Multi Builder Tool between versions?
1 part
Project Infinity 0.1 0.0.51.4-hotfix-2 ships Multi Builder Tool 1.0.27. The mod has been in the pack since 0.0.45.4 or earlier. Here are the notable changes from the mod's own changelogs, newest first.[2]
Mod changelog highlights
- 1.0.27 (the version in this pack): fixes for the search field in the structure selection GUI, and improved rendering with no FPS drops and CTM support.[2][6]
- 1.0.24: fixed dismantling not removing all blocks in some cases, and fixed AE2 integration and replaceable blocks not working correctly. It also added a filter so the tool can't be put into its own inventory, and fixed a crash with EMI in some cases.[7]
- 1.0.23: you can now pass multiblock structure inputs to the AE2 pattern encoder.[8]
- 1.0.22: a new feature lets you request autocraft of missing blocks in ME storage.[9]
- 1.0.20: fixed an issue where the multibuilder UI could not be closed in some cases. A Chinese translation was added, thanks to FutureLin-JM, along with a minor translation fix.[10]
If you use Applied Energistics 2 with this tool, versions 1.0.22 to 1.0.24 are the ones that built up that integration: autocrafting missing blocks, pattern encoder support, and the AE2 fix. All of them are included in the version you have.[2][7][8][9]

Block Replacement Settings.blockEquivalencySets Define sets of equivalent blocks that can be used as replacements. Each line represents a set of equivalent blocks separated by commas. Example: 'mekanism:basic_mechanical_pipe,mekanism:advanced_mechanical_pipe,mekanism:elite_mechanical_pipe' If a structure requires 'elite_mechanical_pipe' but you only have 'basic_mechanical_pipe', the builder will use the basic pipe as a replacement. config/mbtool-common.toml | ["mekanism:basic_mechanical_pipe,mekanism:advanced_mechanical_pipe,mekanism:elite_mechanical_pipe,mekanism:ultimate_mechanical_pipe","mm:tiny_item_port_input,mm:small_item_port_input,mm:normal_item_port_input,mm:big_item_port_input,mm:enormous_item_port_input,mm:gigantic_item_port_input,mm:colossal_item_port_input,mm:titanic_item_port_input","mm:tiny_item_port_output,mm:small_item_port_output,mm:normal_item_port_output,mm:big_item_port_output,mm:enormous_item_port_output,mm:gigantic_item_port_output,mm:colossal_item_port_output,mm:titanic_item_port_output","mm:small_fluid_port_input,mm:normal_fluid_port_input,mm:big_fluid_port_input,mm:enormous_fluid_port_input,mm:gigantic_fluid_port_input","mm:small_fluid_port_output,mm:normal_fluid_port_output,mm:big_fluid_port_output,mm:enormous_fluid_port_output,mm:gigantic_fluid_port_output,mm:tiny_energy_port_input","mm:tiny_energy_port_input,mm:small_energy_port_input,mm:normal_energy_port_input,mm:big_energy_port_input,mm:enormous_energy_port_input,mm:gigantic_energy_port_input","mm:tiny_energy_port_output,mm:small_energy_port_output,mm:normal_energy_port_output,mm:big_energy_port_output,mm:enormous_energy_port_output,mm:gigantic_energy_port_output","bloodmagic:blankrune, bloodmagic:speedrune, bloodmagic:sacrificerune, bloodmagic:selfsacrificerune, bloodmagic:dislocationrune, bloodmagic:altarcapacityrune, bloodmagic:bettercapacityrune, bloodmagic:orbcapacityrune, bloodmagic:accelerationrune, bloodmagic:chargingrune, bloodmagic:speedrune2, bloodmagic:sacrificerune2, bloodmagic:selfsacrificerune2, bloodmagic:dislocationrune2, bloodmagic:altarcapacityrune2, bloodmagic:bettercapacityrune2, bloodmagic:orbcapacityrune2, bloodmagic:accelerationrune2, bloodmagic:chargingrune2","voidminers:null_modifier,voidminers:rubetine_energy_modifier,voidminers:rubetine_speed_modifier,voidminers:rubetine_item_modifier,voidminers:aurantium_energy_modifier,voidminers:aurantium_speed_modifier,voidminers:aurantium_item_modifier,voidminers:citrinetine_energy_modifier,voidminers:citrinetine_speed_modifier,voidminers:citrinetine_item_modifier,voidminers:verdium_energy_modifier,voidminers:verdium_speed_modifier,voidminers:verdium_item_modifier,voidminers:azurine_energy_modifier,voidminers:azurine_speed_modifier,voidminers:azurine_item_modifier,voidminers:caerium_energy_modifier,voidminers:caerium_speed_modifier,voidminers:caerium_item_modifier,voidminers:amethystine_energy_modifier,voidminers:amethystine_speed_modifier,voidminers:amethystine_item_modifier,voidminers:rosarium_energy_modifier,voidminers:rosarium_speed_modifier,voidminers:rosarium_item_modifier,voidminers:ultimate_energy_modifier,voidminers:ultimate_speed_modifier,voidminers:ultimate_item_modifier","voidminers:null_modifier,voidminers:solar_rubetine_efficiency_modifier,voidminers:solar_rubetine_weather_modifier,voidminers:solar_aurantium_efficiency_modifier,voidminers:solar_aurantium_weather_modifier,voidminers:solar_citrinetine_efficiency_modifier,voidminers:solar_citrinetine_weather_modifier,voidminers:solar_verdium_efficiency_modifier,voidminers:solar_verdium_weather_modifier,voidminers:solar_azurine_efficiency_modifier,voidminers:solar_azurine_weather_modifier,voidminers:solar_caerium_efficiency_modifier,voidminers:solar_caerium_weather_modifier,voidminers:solar_amethystine_efficiency_modifier,voidminers:solar_amethystine_weather_modifier,voidminers:solar_rosarium_efficiency_modifier,voidminers:solar_rosarium_weather_modifier,voidminers:solar_ultimate_efficiency_modifier,voidminers:solar_ultimate_weather_modifier","expatternprovider:assembler_matrix_wall,expatternprovider:assembler_matrix_glass","extendedae_plus:assembler_matrix_crafter_plus,extendedae_plus:assembler_matrix_pattern_plus","nuclearcraft:fission_reactor_glass, nuclearcraft:fission_reactor_casing"] |
