What is Irregular Implements?
3 parts
Irregular Implements is a remake of Random Things, currently targeting 1.21.1 NeoForge. It's a grab bag of convenience tools, teleportation, item automation and redstone blocks. The pack includes version 1.12.0 of the mod.[1][2]
What you get
- A portable pocket dimension through the Spectre Key.[1]
- Convenience tools like the Escape Rope, Ender Bucket and Block Mover.[1]
- Teleportation through the Ender Bridge, Ender Anchor and Portable Ender Bridge.[1]
- Item automation with 12 different Plates that move, sort, and insert or extract items and entities.[1]
- Dozens of redstone blocks, including several for wireless connectivity.[1]
The mod has more beyond that. The Biome Radar helps you find biomes, the Peace Candle prevents hostile mobs from spawning around it, and the Item Collector collects nearby item entities into an inventory. The mod also has an in-game guide, the Instructional Index.[3][4][5][6]
Who it's for
If you like building item transport, wireless redstone setups and handy utility blocks, this mod is for you. Plates are the heart of the automation side, since they generally move entities, especially item entities. The redstone blocks give you the control side.[7][8]
Where it fits in the pack
The mod shows up in the pack's power chapter. Quest "Wireless Spectre Power" quest asks for Ectoplasm, a Spectre Energy Injector, and one Spectre Coil. Any of Spectre Coil, Redstone Spectre Coil or Ender Spectre Coil counts.[9]
Some Random Things features were left out on purpose, such as Time in a Bottle, the Blood Moon and the sound muffling blocks. If you remember them from Random Things, you won't find them here.[1]
How do you get started with Irregular Implements?
4 parts
Irregular Implements has a lot of toys, but the pack's quest book points you at one thing first: Spectre Energy. The quest in the power chapter asks you to get Ectoplasm, a Spectre Energy Injector and a Spectre Coil, so that is the path I'd follow too. "Wireless Spectre Power" quest[9]
Step one: get Ectoplasm
Ectoplasm is the first quest item. Every time an entity dies there is a chance it spawns a Spirit. Spirits can only be killed by magic, and they drop Ectoplasm.[10]
The better long-term plan is a Spectre Sapling. Right-click any Sapling block with Ectoplasm to make one. It grows into a translucent Spectre Tree, and its leaves have a chance of dropping more Ectoplasm, so it is a reusable source.[11]
Step two: craft the Spectre Energy Injector
Every player has a Spectre Energy buffer, which works like an Ender Chest but for FE instead of items. The Spectre Energy Injector is how you put FE into it. It is owned by whoever placed it, and you can't extract from it.[12]

This is the pack's own version of the recipe.
The mod's default buffer size is 1,000,000 FE per player, and the server config can change that amount.[12]
Step three: craft a Spectre Coil
The buffer only helps once you can pull energy back out. A Spectre Coil extracts FE wirelessly from your buffer, and you place it directly on the machine you want to power.[12][14]

Each coil version pulls a different amount of FE/t. You can upgrade the basic coil into the Redstone Spectre Coil, and that one into the Ender Spectre Coil, when one coil isn't enough. The quest accepts any of the three.[9][13][14]

Handy extras early on
Two cheap items are worth making while you wait on Ectoplasm. The Block of Sticks is a cheap building block that breaks itself after 10 seconds, which makes it good scaffolding.[10][15]

The Block Breaker breaks the block in front of it with the strength of an Iron Pickaxe. It puts the drops into an inventory behind it, or drops them on the ground, and a Redstone signal disables it. Later, a Diamond Breaker upgrades it to Diamond Pickaxe level.[16]

How does Irregular Implements work?
7 parts
Irregular Implements is built around small utility blocks that you wire together with Redstone, inventories and plates. This section covers how the main systems behave and which values this pack changes.[1]
Redstone-driven machines
The Auto Placer tries to place the block in its inventory in front of itself every tick that it has no Redstone signal. That makes a Redstone signal your off switch.[17]
The Block Breaker breaks the block in front of it with the equivalent of an Iron Pickaxe. Drops go into an inventory behind it, or onto the ground if there isn't one. A Redstone signal disables it. Apply a Diamond Breaker to upgrade it to Diamond Pickaxe level, and you can enchant it so the enchantments apply while it mines.[10][16]

The Block Destabilizer reacts to a Redstone pulse. It makes the block in front of it, plus connected blocks of the same type, fall like Sand. It affects the nearest 50 connected blocks, and this pack keeps that cap at the mod default through blockDestabilizerLimit. In its GUI you can switch on Lazy mode, where it remembers the block positions and only destabilizes those. The Forget Lazy Shape button clears the saved shape.[10][18][19]
The Igniter has three modes you cycle in its GUI: Toggle, Keep Ignited and Ignite. The Iron Dropper has three Redstone settings: eject when pulsed, eject while powered, and eject always. You can also cycle its item pickup delay through 20, 5 and 0 ticks.[20][21]
Item handling and automation
The Item Collector sits on an inventory and collects item entities within a 3-block radius, which is a 7x7x7 cube centered on it. The Advanced Item Collector works the same way, but each axis (X/Y/Z) has its own radius from 0 to 10 blocks. It also accepts an Item Filter so it only grabs matching items.[5][10]

An Item Filter holds up to 9 items and works as a blacklist or a whitelist for the whole filter. Each slot can match either the item itself or one of its tags.[22]
Plates move and sort entities, especially item entities. Here is what the ones the sources describe do:[7]
- Accelerator Plate: speeds up anything moving on it in its current direction, up to a limit. The Directional Accelerator Plate instead pushes entities in the direction the plate faces.[23][24]
- Corrector Plate: snaps moving entities to the center of the block, so they travel straight along the path.[25]
- Collection Plate: inserts any item entity that touches it into an adjacent inventory. It tries Down, North, South, East, West, then Up.[10]
- Item Rejuvenator Plate: resets an item's despawn timer to 4 minutes and resets its age.[26]
- Item Sealer Plate: stops an item from being picked up for 30 seconds.[27]
- Redirector Plate: has two active sides. Right-click sets the first and sneak right-click sets the second, and anything entering one active side is teleported to the other.[28]
Plates pair well with Super Lubricated Blocks, which fully negate friction so entities never slow down. Platforms are solid only on top, and the Filtered Super Lubricant Platform lets items matching its Item Filter fall through.[29][30]
The Imbuing Station is also pipe-friendly. The center slot is reached from the top face, the other input slots from the sides, and the output from the bottom. Outer ingredients can go in any outer slot, but the center ingredient must go in the center slot.[31]
Energy
The Energy Distributor spreads FE evenly across the energy storage blocks lined up in front of it. It scans each block in that direction and caches them. Inserting into or extracting from the Distributor acts on those blocks combined. The Ender Energy Distributor does the same job but uses 8 Location Filters to pick its machines.[32]
Every player has a Spectre Energy buffer that works like an Ender Chest, but for FE. In this pack it holds up to 1,000,000 FE, the mod default, set by spectre.capacity. You fill it with the Spectre Energy Injector, which is owned by whoever placed it and cannot be extracted from. To take energy out, place a Spectre Coil directly on the machine you want to power, or use a Spectre Charger.[12][14][19]
Spectre Chargers charge every chargeable item in your inventory, including armor and equipped Curios, and each tier is faster than the last. The Genesis Charger is creative-only and doesn't drain your buffer. The pack keeps the mod's default speeds, listed below.[19][33]
- Coil transfer per tick: Basic 1,024 (spectre.basicRate), Redstone 4,096 (spectre.redstoneRate), Ender 20,480 (spectre.enderRate).[19]
- Charger speed: Basic 1,024, Redstone 4,096, Ender 20,480, set by spectre.chargerBasic, spectre.chargerRedstone and spectre.chargerEnder.[19]
- Two special coils generate FE from nothing instead of drawing from the buffer. One is found in dungeon chests and the other only through commands or creative mode. Their rates are 128 (spectre.numberRate) and 10,000,000 (spectre.genesisRate) per tick.[14][19]
Fluids
Pitcher Plants generate water. You can take it with a Bucket or any fluid-storage item, and the plant also periodically fills adjacent fluid tanks and can be drained by fluid pipes. This pack lowers the fill and drain amounts a lot compared with the mod.[19][34]
- Random-tick fill of adjacent tanks: 1,000 here, mod default 100,000 (pitcherPlantTickFillAmount).[19]
- Filling a container you click onto it: 1,000 here, mod default 100,000 (pitcherPlantUseFillAmount).[19]
- Fill when bone mealed: 1,000 here, mod default 100,000 (pitcherPlantBoneMealFillAmount).[19]
- Pipe drain per tick: 1,000 here, mod default 100,000 (pitcherPlantPipeDrainRate).[19]
The Ender Bucket picks up fluids from a distance. Used on a non-source fluid, it finds and picks up the nearest source block. The Reinforced Ender Bucket works the same way but holds 10 buckets of fluid.[35]
Teleportation and range limits
A powered Ender Bridge teleports the entities standing on it to the Ender Anchor it is aimed at. It needs to face the anchor directly, and it works over any distance. The basic Bridge takes 1 tick per block traveled and the Prismarine Bridge takes 0.5 ticks per block. If there is no anchor in line, it fails audibly.[36]
The Portable Ender Bridge lets you do the same thing to a nearby Ender Anchor. In this pack it looks up to 300 blocks, set by portableEnderBridgeRange, which matches the mod default.[19][37]
The Block Teleporter swaps the block in front of one teleporter with the block in front of a second one when powered. Save the first teleporter's location with a Location Filter and put that filter in the second.[38]
Wireless Redstone
The Basic Redstone Interface passes the Redstone signal strength it receives to one linked block, and you link it with a Redstone Tool. The Advanced Redstone Interface does this for up to 9 linked blocks, using Location Filters. Holding a Redstone Tool draws lines to the linked blocks near you.[39][40][41]
Two more blocks give you precise control over signal strength. The Analog Emitter outputs a configurable strength when its front face is powered, and you right-click it to cycle the strength. The Advanced Redstone Torch lets you set separate output strengths for its powered and unpowered states in its GUI.[42][43]
Area effects and other pack values
Several blocks work by chunk radius, and the pack sets them as follows. The Slime Cube is the only one of these that the pack changes.[19]
- Slime Cube: radius 1 chunk (a 3x3 chunk area). The pack raised this from the mod default of 0. It spawns Slimes while unpowered and prevents them while powered.[19][44]
- Peace Candle: radius 1 chunk, the mod default. It stops hostile mob spawning and a Redstone signal disables it.[6][19]
- Rain Shield: radius 5 chunks, the mod default. A Redstone signal disables it.[19][45]
The Biome Painter's radius is 0 in this pack, down from the mod default of 2. By default it therefore only paints the block you target. The Biome Radar searches out to 6,400 blocks with horizontal and vertical step sizes of 32 and 64, all at mod defaults.[19]
How do you progress through Irregular Implements?
4 parts
Irregular Implements doesn't have formal tiers in this pack. The sources show one quest for it, and the rest of the order comes from how the in-pack recipes build on each other. So treat what follows as a suggested path based on those upgrade chains, not an official ladder.[9][13]
Stage 1: Utility basics
A good first pick is the Block Breaker. It mines the block in front of it with the equivalent of an Iron Pickaxe and drops the result into an inventory behind it. You can upgrade it with a Diamond Breaker, which makes it equivalent to a Diamond Pickaxe and lets it carry enchantments.[13][16]

For item logistics, the Item Collector collects items in a 3 block radius, a 7x7x7 cube. The Advanced Item Collector is crafted from it and has a configurable radius from 0 to 10 blocks, plus optional item filtering.[5][13]
The plates (Accelerator Plate, Bouncy Plate, Collection Plate, Corrector Plate, Directional Accelerator Plate) are mostly for moving entities, especially items. The Super Lubricant Platform is very useful for transporting items when used with plates.[7][13][29]
Next stage: Redstone and ender tools
The Basic Redstone Interface passes its received signal strength to one linked block. The Advanced Redstone Interface is crafted from the basic one and links up to 9 blocks through Location Filters.[13][39][40]

The Block Teleporter swaps blocks between linked teleporters when powered. Whether it works across dimensions is configurable, and it defaults to true.[13][38]
Stage 3: Energy
The Energy Distributor splits FE evenly among adjacent energy storage blocks in a line. The Ender Energy Distributor is crafted from it and uses 8 Location Filters to pick its machines.[13][32]

Stage 4: Spectre energy
Spectre Coils wirelessly pull FE from your Spectre Energy buffer. You place a coil directly on the machine you want to power, and each version pulls a different amount of FE/t. The coils form an upgrade chain in the recipes: Spectre Coil, then Redstone Spectre Coil, then Ender Spectre Coil.[13][14]

How does Irregular Implements work with other mods?
2 parts
The sources confirm only a few places where Irregular Implements connects with other mods in this pack. Here is what you can rely on.[9][13]
Recipes added by the pack
The pack adds custom machine recipes that pair Irregular Implements items with items from other mods. Both sit in the world_engine recipe group, so they are not standard crafting table recipes, and they are not mod defaults.[13]
- The Clavis Lock Pick recipe involves Spectre Ingot.[13]
- The Infernal Dust recipe involves Blackout Powder.[13]

Quests
The power chapter of the quest book has a quest, "Wireless Spectre Power" quest, with item tasks for Ectoplasm, the Spectre Energy Injector, and one of the Spectre Coils: Spectre Coil, Redstone Spectre Coil or Ender Spectre Coil. All of its tasks use Irregular Implements items, so it places the mod's Spectre power parts in that chapter rather than linking them to another mod.[9]
Which FTB StoneBlock 4 quests use Irregular Implements?
The quest book covers Irregular Implements in the "power" chapter. The source I have for this section lists a single quest there, so this section is short.[9]
The quest "Wireless Spectre Power" quest has no title in the quest file, so you will recognise it by its tasks. It asks you to submit Ectoplasm and a Spectre Energy Injector, plus a Spectre Coil.[9]
The coil task is flexible. You can submit the Spectre Coil, the Redstone Spectre Coil or the Ender Spectre Coil, so pick whichever variant you want to build.[9]
Which Irregular Implements config options matter?
5 parts
Most of what you'll want to know about Irregular Implements lives in the server config, and this is where the pack made its changes. Everything below says exactly what this pack sets, and flags the mod default only where the pack changed it.[19]
Values the pack changed
- biome_painter.biomePainterRadius is 0 in this pack (mod default 2). A radius of 0 means the Biome Painter only affects the targeted block, while 1 would be a 3x3x3 area. So here you paint biomes one block at a time.[19]
- The Pitcher Plant is much gentler than the mod default. pitcherPlantBoneMealFillAmount, pitcherPlantTickFillAmount and pitcherPlantUseFillAmount are all 1,000 instead of 100,000. They control how much fluid it pushes into adjacent tanks when bone mealed, on a random tick, and into a container you click onto it.[19]
- pitcherPlantPipeDrainRate is also 1,000 per tick (mod default 100,000), so pipes drain the Pitcher Plant far more slowly than they would in a default setup.[19]
- slimeCubeChunkRadius is 1 (mod default 0). A value of 0 would mean only the chunk the Slime Cube sits in, so this pack widens its reach beyond that chunk.[19]
Teleporting and movement
- blockTeleporterCrossDimension is false, so the Block Teleporter can't send blocks across dimensions in this pack.[19]
- blockMoverTryVaporizeFluid is true. The Block Mover tries to vaporize fluids, for example un-water-logging a slab moved to the Nether, instead of refusing to move the block.[19]
- portableEnderBridgeRange is 300 (the mod default), which is how far the Portable Ender Bridge looks for an Ender Anchor.[19]
- The Escape Rope checks 250 blocks per tick (escapeRopeBlocksPerTick), and escapeRopeMaxBlocks is 0, which means no limit. Both are mod defaults.[19]
Area and utility settings at mod defaults
- peaceCandleChunkRadius is 1, a mod default.[19]
- rainShieldChunkRadius is 5, a mod default.[19]
- The Nature Core uses a bone meal radius of 25 for crops, a sapling planting radius of 16, a block replace radius of 10 and an animal spawn radius of 8. These are natureCoreBoneMealCropRadius, natureCorePlantSaplingRadius, natureCoreReplaceRadius and natureCoreSpawnAnimalRadius, all at mod defaults.[19]
- trigger_glass.triggerGlassDuration is 60, so the Trigger Glass stays non-solid for 60 ticks.[19]
- trigger_glass.triggerGlassRange is 20, so the Trigger Glass effect propagates 20 blocks.[19]
- summoningPendulumCapacity is 5, the number of entities the Summoning Pendulum can store.[19]
- blockReplacerUniqueBlocks is 9, the number of unique blocks the Block Replacer can store.[19]
- biome_radar.biomeRadarSearchRadius is 6,400, the radius the Biome Radar searches for the selected biome.[19]
- biome_radar.biomeRadarHorizontalStep is 32, the horizontal step size the Biome Radar uses when searching.[19]
- biome_radar.biomeRadarVerticalStep is 64, the vertical step size the Biome Radar uses when searching.[19]
Spectre energy
The Spectre energy settings are all untouched by the pack, so they match the mod defaults.[19]
- spectre.capacity is 1,000,000, the most energy a Spectre Energy network can store.[19]
- spectre.basicRate is 1,024: the energy a Basic Spectre Coil transfers per tick.[19]
- spectre.redstoneRate is 4,096: the energy a Redstone Spectre Coil transfers per tick.[19]
- spectre.enderRate is 20,480: the energy an Ender Spectre Coil transfers per tick.[19]
- spectre.numberRate is 128: the energy a Number Spectre Coil generates per tick.[19]
- spectre.genesisRate is 10,000,000: the energy a Genesis Spectre Coil generates per tick.[19]
- spectre.spiritBaseSpawnChance is 0.01, the base chance of a Spirit spawning when an entity dies.[19]
- spectre.spiritSpawnDragonKilledBonus is 0.07, added to that chance once the Ender Dragon has been killed.[19]
- spectre.spiritSpawnFullMoonBonus is 0.02, added to that chance on a full moon.[19]
- spectre.spiritMaxAge is 400 ticks before a Spirit despawns.[19]
Client and startup files
In the client config, the Collapse effect inverts both your WASD movement (collapseInvertsControls) and your mouse movement (collapseInvertsMouse). Both are true. hideCustomCraftingTableRecipeBookButton is false, so the recipe book button is shown. The Biome Painter cube colors and sizes are all at mod defaults.[46]
The startup config controls Peace Candle generation in villages. peaceCandleVillageReplacementChance is 0.3333333333333333 (a third, the mod default). peaceCandleVillageTemplatePools lists the plains, desert, savanna, snowy and taiga house pools, and leaving it empty disables generation.[47]
