What is Irregular Implements?

2 parts

Irregular Implements is a modern remake of Random Things, which currently targets Minecraft 1.21.1 on NeoForge. This pack ships version 1.6.1 of it. Think of it as a big toolbox of convenience items, teleportation, item automation and redstone gadgets.[1][2]

What you get

  • A portable pocket dimension through the Spectre Key.[1]
  • Convenience tools like the Escape Rope, Ender Bucket and Block Mover.[1]
  • Teleportation with the Ender Bridge, Ender Anchor and Portable Ender Bridge.[1]
  • Item automation through 12 different Plates that move, sort, and insert or extract items and entities.[1]
  • Dozens of redstone blocks, including several for wireless connectivity.[1]

Most of it is utility rather than progression-gating. If you enjoy building item transport, clever redstone or quality-of-life gadgets, this mod is for you. It also has world and defence blocks such as the Peace Candle, which stops hostile mobs from spawning around it, and the Rain Shield, which keeps rain away.[1][3][4]

Where it fits in the pack

The mod's main link to the pack's progression is Spectre Energy. Every player has a personal Spectre Energy buffer that works a bit like an Ender Chest, but for FE instead of items. You put power in with the Spectre Energy Injector and pull it out wirelessly with a Spectre Coil placed directly on the machine you want to power.[5][6]

The pack's "power" quest chapter includes a quest for this, a quest in "?". It asks for Ectoplasm, the Spectre Energy Injector, and one of these coils: the Spectre Coil, the Redstone Spectre Coil or the Ender Spectre Coil.[7]

Tip: Each Spectre Coil version pulls a different amount of FE/t from your buffer. Two special coils generate FE from nothing instead. The first can be found in dungeon chests, and the second is only available through commands or creative mode.[5]

The in-game guide says the buffer holds up to 1,000,000 FE by default and that this can be changed in the server config.[6]

How do you get started with Irregular Implements?

2 parts

Irregular Implements has a lot of gadgets, so the trick is knowing where to start. In this pack, the quest book's power chapter points you at the Spectre Energy system, so that is the first thing to set up.[1][7]

Step 1: Get your power set up

The quest a quest in "?" has you collect Ectoplasm, the Spectre Energy Injector, and a Spectre Coil. Any of the three coils counts: Spectre Coil, Redstone Spectre Coil or Ender Spectre Coil.[7]

Why start here? Every player has a personal Spectre Energy buffer that works a bit like an Ender Chest, but for FE instead of items. By default it holds up to 1,000,000 FE, and that amount can be changed in the server config.[6]

The Spectre Energy Injector is how you put FE into that buffer. It belongs to whoever placed it, and you can't pull energy back out of it. For that you need a Spectre Coil.[6]

This pack changed the Injector's recipe, so don't rely on what you remember from the mod's defaults. Here is the in-pack version:[8]

Coils pull FE from your buffer and feed it wirelessly into a machine. Place the coil directly on the machine you want to power. Each version pulls a different amount of FE/t. The basic coil is the one to craft first:[5][8]

Step 2: Handy utility tools

While you work on power, a few simple tools make life easier. The recipe blocks below show the exact in-pack recipes.[8]

  • Block of Sticks breaks itself shortly after you place it, which makes it an effective scaffolding block.[9]
  • Block Breaker breaks the block in front of it with the equivalent of an Iron Pickaxe. The blocks go into an inventory behind it, or drop on the ground. A Redstone signal disables it.[10]
  • Block Mover picks up and moves blocks, including ones with block entities like Chests. Right-click to pick one up, then right-click again to place it. Blocks in its blacklist tag, which by default includes Bedrock, can't be moved.[11]

How does Irregular Implements work?

8 parts

Irregular Implements is a remake of Random Things that targets 1.21.1 NeoForge. Most of what it offers is small single-block devices that you wire together with redstone, filters and plates. The mod's own description highlights item automation through 12 different Plates that move, sort, and insert or extract items and entities, plus dozens of redstone blocks.[1]

Moving items and entities

Plates are the backbone of item transport. In general they exist to move entities, especially item entities. Super Lubricated Blocks pair well with them, because they fully negate friction, so entities move across them without slowing down.[12][13]

Platforms are solid on top but not from the bottom or sides, and sneaking lets you fall through them. The Super Lubricant Platform adds the friction-free behavior. The Filtered Super Lubricant Platform also accepts an Item Filter, and any item matching the filter falls through the platform. That makes it a simple sorter for items travelling along a line.[14]

Tip: For item lines, use Super Lubricated Blocks or Super Lubricant Platforms together with Plates, so items keep sliding instead of slowing down.[13][14]

Filters, breaking and inventories

The Item Filter holds a list of up to 9 items and works as either a blacklist or a whitelist for the whole filter. Each slot can match a specific item, optionally including its data components, or an item tag. For example, an Iron Ingot can be switched to a tag filter and cycled through tags like Ingots.[15]

The Imbuing Station has automation-friendly faces. The center ingredient goes in through the top, the other input slots are reached from the sides, and the output comes out of the bottom. Outer ingredients can go into any outer slot, but the center ingredient must go in the center slot.[16]

The Inventory Tester sits on the side of an inventory and holds an item. It emits a redstone signal when that inventory can accept the item, and you can invert it in its GUI. It checks the face it is attached to, so on top of a Furnace it only tests the top slot. The Inventory Rerouter lets you access the inventory's face from another side.[17]

The Block Breaker breaks the block in front of it with the equivalent of an Iron Pickaxe. Drops go into an inventory behind it, or onto the ground if there isn't one. A redstone signal disables it. The Diamond Breaker upgrades it to Diamond Pickaxe level, and it can also be enchanted, with the enchantments applied when breaking blocks.[10]

The Void Stone deletes any item inserted into its menu.[18]

Power: FE and the Spectre buffer

Energy is handled with FE. The Energy Distributor evenly spreads FE among adjacent energy storage blocks in a line. Starting from the block in front of it, it checks each block in that direction and adds the ones with energy storage to its cache. Its storage is effectively all of those blocks combined, so inserting or extracting passes through to them. The Ender Energy Distributor works similarly but uses 8 Location Filters to specify the machines in the cache.[19]

Every player also has a Spectre Energy buffer, which acts like an Ender Chest but for FE. This pack leaves the capacity at 1,000,000 (spectre.capacity). The Spectre Energy Injector inserts FE into the buffer and belongs to whoever placed it. You cannot extract from the Injector. You have to use a Spectre Coil or a Spectre Charger.[6][20]

Spectre Coils pull FE wirelessly from the buffer. Place the Coil directly on the machine you want to power. Each version has a different FE/t rate, and the pack keeps the mod's default values:[5][20]

Spectre Chargers charge every chargeable item in your inventory from the buffer, including armor and equipped Curios, and each tier charges faster than the last. The config values are 1,024 for Basic (spectre.chargerBasic), 4,096 for Redstone (spectre.chargerRedstone) and 20,480 for Ender (spectre.chargerEnder). The Genesis Charger is creative-only and does not use buffer energy.[20][21]

Fluids

The Pitcher Plant generates water. You can fill a bucket or any fluid-storage item from it. It also periodically fills adjacent fluid tanks, and fluid pipes can extract from it. This pack lowers all four of its fluid values from the mod default of 100,000 to 1,000. Those are the amount filled on a random tick (pitcherPlantTickFillAmount), when bone mealed (pitcherPlantBoneMealFillAmount), when a container is clicked onto it (pitcherPlantUseFillAmount), and the pipe drain rate per tick (pitcherPlantPipeDrainRate). So expect much slower fluid output than the mod's defaults suggest.[20][22]

The Ender Bucket picks up fluids from a distance. If you use it on a non-source fluid block, it finds the nearest source block and picks that up instead. The Reinforced Ender Bucket works the same way but holds 10 buckets worth of fluid.[23]

Redstone and area blocks

Several blocks turn world interaction into signals. The Contact Button emits a short pulse when the block in front of it is clicked, and the Contact Lever toggles on and off in the same situation. The Analog Emitter outputs a configurable strength when powered on its front face, and you right-click it to cycle the strength. The Advanced Redstone Torch has separate configurable outputs for powered and unpowered, set in its GUI.[24][25][26][27]

The Redstone Activator powers itself briefly when used, and sneak right-click cycles the duration between 2, 20, and 100 ticks. Trigger Glass turns non-solid on a redstone pulse, and the pack keeps its duration at 60 ticks (trigger_glass.triggerGlassDuration). The effect spreads to connected Trigger Glass within a distance.[20][28][29]

Area blocks use chunk radii from the server config. The Peace Candle blocks hostile spawns in a 1 chunk radius, a 3x3 chunk area (peaceCandleChunkRadius), and the Rain Shield covers a 5 chunk radius (rainShieldChunkRadius). Both can be disabled with redstone. The Slime Cube spawns Slimes while unpowered and blocks them while powered. This pack sets its radius to 1 chunk (slimeCubeChunkRadius), up from the mod default of 0.[3][4][20][30]

Teleportation

Ender Bridges teleport entities standing on them to an Ender Anchor when powered, but only if they are aimed directly at the anchor. They work through blocks over any distance. The bridge searches in a straight line, charges based on the distance and then activates, and it fails audibly if there is no anchor. The basic Bridge takes 1 tick per block, and the Prismarine Bridge takes 0.5 ticks per block.[31]

The Portable Ender Bridge teleports you to a nearby Ender Anchor, and this pack's search range is 300 (portableEnderBridgeRange).[20][32]

The Block Teleporter swaps the block in front of one teleporter with the block in front of another when powered. Save a location with a Location Filter and put that filter in the second teleporter. The guide says cross-dimension teleporting defaults to true, but this pack's config sets blockTeleporterCrossDimension to false, so don't plan on moving blocks between dimensions.[20][33]

The Stable Ender Pearl binds to you when used, and after seven seconds as an item entity it teleports the bound player to its location. It must be loaded and you must be in the same dimension.[34]

Biome tools and other limits

The Biome Capsule gains biome points while sitting in a biome after being thrown on the ground. The Biome Painter then uses a filled capsule to change biomes. The pack sets biome_painter.biomePainterRadius to 0, so it only affects the targeted block, instead of the mod default of 2. The view range for seeing and painting is 10 horizontally (biome_painter.biomePainterViewHorizontalRadius) and 5 vertically (biome_painter.biomePainterViewVerticalRadius).[20][35]

Multiblocks

The only structure the sources mention is the Artificial End Portal, which you build as shown in the in-game guide and activate by using the Evil Tear on its End Rod. A portal then grows below it and works like a normal End Portal.[38]

How do you progress through Irregular Implements?

3 parts

Irregular Implements doesn't have one long linear tier ladder in this pack. The one quest I can confirm for this mod sits in the power chapter, and it sends you down the Spectre energy path. Beyond that, the mod's progression comes from a handful of base-and-upgrade pairs, covered below.[7]

The Spectre energy path

Every player has a personal Spectre Energy buffer that works a bit like an Ender Chest, but for FE instead of items. The Spectre Energy Injector puts FE into it, and you can't pull energy back out of the Injector itself. You need a Spectre Coil or a Spectre Charger for that.[6]

The quest a quest in "?" asks you to collect these:[7]

  1. Ectoplasm[7]
  2. Spectre Energy Injector[7]
  3. Any one of Spectre Coil, Redstone Spectre Coil or Ender Spectre Coil[7]

The pack changed the Spectre Energy Injector recipe, so don't rely on what you remember from the mod's defaults. Here is the in-pack version:[8]

Spectre Coil tiers

Spectre Coils wirelessly pull FE from your Spectre Energy buffer, and each version pulls a different amount of FE/t. The sources don't give those rates, so I won't quote any. The coils form a clear three-step chain. The Redstone Spectre Coil is crafted from the basic Spectre Coil, and the Ender Spectre Coil is crafted from the Redstone one.[5][8]

Watch out: By default the buffer holds up to 1,000,000 FE, and the mod lets the server config change that. The sources don't confirm whether this pack changes it, so check the server config before you plan around that number.[6]

Spectre Chargers use the same buffer to charge items in your inventory, including armor and equipped Curios. Each charger tier charges faster than the last.[21]

Unverified The sources don't say how to obtain Ectoplasm in this pack, so check the quest or recipe viewer in-game. This site does hold FTB StoneBlock 4's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

Other upgrade pairs

Outside the Spectre line, these are the upgrade steps the sources confirm:[8]

How does Irregular Implements work with other mods?

2 parts

Irregular Implements has very little direct crossover with other mods in this pack. The one in-pack recipe that links it to another mod is a Create cutting recipe, and the pack added it.[8]

Create: cutting Spectre Logs

If you run a Spectre Log through a Create cutting recipe, you get a irregular_implements:stripped_spectre_log. The same recipe also gives you Tree Bark, an item from Farmer's Delight. So one cut ties three mods together: Irregular Implements, Create and Farmer's Delight.[8]

Quests

The quest a quest in "?" in the pack's power chapter asks you to hand in Ectoplasm, the Spectre Energy Injector, and one of the Spectre Coils: Spectre Coil, Redstone Spectre Coil or Ender Spectre Coil. All of those items come from Irregular Implements, so this quest doesn't connect the mod to any other mod.[7]

Which FTB StoneBlock 4 quests use Irregular Implements?

Same as in the FTB StoneBlock 4 1.21.0 guide

The quest book covers Irregular Implements in the "power" chapter. The source I have for this section lists a single quest there, so this section is short.[40]

The quest a quest in "?" has no title in the quest file, so you will recognise it by its tasks. It asks you to submit Ectoplasm and a Spectre Energy Injector, plus a Spectre Coil.[40]

The coil task is flexible. You can submit the Spectre Coil, the Redstone Spectre Coil or the Ender Spectre Coil, so pick whichever variant you want to build.[40]

Which Irregular Implements config options matter?

5 parts

Good news: this pack leaves almost all of Irregular Implements at the mod's own values. Only a handful of server options were changed, and they're the ones you'll notice in play. Everything below lives in the server config unless I say otherwise.[20]

Values the pack changed

Tip: If your Pitcher Plant feels slow compared to what you've seen in other videos or on the mod's own pages, this is why. The pack deliberately lowers all four fluid values to 1000.[20]

Utility items left at the mod default

Spectre energy and spirits

The Spectre options are all unchanged. A Spectre energy network stores up to 1,000,000 (spectre.capacity). Coil rates per tick are 128 for Number (spectre.numberRate), 1024 for Basic (spectre.basicRate), 4096 for Redstone (spectre.redstoneRate), 20,480 for Ender (spectre.enderRate) and 10,000,000 for Genesis (spectre.genesisRate).[20]

Charger speeds are 1024 Basic, 4096 Redstone, 20,480 Ender and 2,147,483,647 Genesis (see spectre.chargerBasic, spectre.chargerRedstone, spectre.chargerEnder and spectre.chargerGenesis).[20]

A Spirit has a base 0.01 chance to spawn when an entity dies (spectre.spiritBaseSpawnChance). That goes up by 0.07 once the Ender Dragon has been killed (spectre.spiritSpawnDragonKilledBonus) and by 0.02 on a full moon (spectre.spiritSpawnFullMoonBonus). Spirits last 400 ticks (spectre.spiritMaxAge). The Spectre Imbue has a 0.1 chance to cancel incoming damage (spectre.imbueProcChance).[20]

Biome tools

The Biome Radar searches a radius of 6,400 (biome_radar.biomeRadarSearchRadius), with a horizontal step of 32 and a vertical step of 64 (biome_radar.biomeRadarHorizontalStep, biome_radar.biomeRadarVerticalStep). For the Biome Painter, you can see and paint biomes 10 blocks horizontally and 5 vertically (biome_painter.biomePainterViewHorizontalRadius, biome_painter.biomePainterViewVerticalRadius). All of these match the mod defaults.[20]

Client options

The client config is entirely at the mod defaults. collapseInvertsMouse is true, so the Collapse Imbue inverts your mouse sensitivity. hideCustomCraftingTableRecipeBookButton is false, so the recipe book button stays visible in the Custom Crafting Table screen.[41]

The Biome Painter's cube overlay is also at its defaults: correct positions use a cube size of 0.05 (biome_painter.biomePainterCorrectBiomeCubeSize) and incorrect ones use 0.35 (biome_painter.biomePainterIncorrectBiomeCubeSize). You can also change the colors with biome_painter.biomePainterCorrectBiomeCubeColor, biome_painter.biomePainterIncorrectBiomeCubeColor and biome_painter.biomePainterSelectedIncorrectBiomeCubeColor.[41]

What changed in Irregular Implements between versions?

FTB StoneBlock 4 1.1.2 ships with Irregular Implements 1.6.1. The mod has been in the pack since 1.0.0 or earlier, so it was there from the start.[2]

The mod's own changelog has entries for 1.5.0, 1.6.0 and 1.6.1, but the entries I was given contain only links and no change notes. The pack changelogs have no entries for this mod either.[42][43][44]

Unverified What changed in Irregular Implements 1.5.0, 1.6.0 and 1.6.1 could not be confirmed from the provided sources, so no individual changes are listed here.
